Quick Tip Tuesday -Ford Escape Broken Rear Wiper Arm
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 30 июн 2024
- In this video I bring you along as I replace the rear wiper arm on a Ford Escape. It is very common for the bushing to corrode to the wiper motor shaft. I'll show you how I get that piece removed in this video.
-Enjoy!

I wish you would have told us about removing the cardboard earlier. I drove around for days with it still on. I gotta start watching these things to the end!
😅
Definitely why Tollet Paper comes with instructions! 🤔

ok im hurting from laughing at that
😂😂😂I needed that.
Bravo Ken!! 😂
You know we're living in hard times when Eric doesn't even make fun of the Dorman part he's installing anymore. How the tide has turned...
If it doesn't have a plug. Dorman is fine. If it does then stay away.
@@kylefergus8722I'll second that statement!
Sometimes Dorman is the ONLY source and you bite the bullet and hope it lasts at least a couple months, plug or no plug
and
This will get worse
Well you already know the OEM one is a piece of junk.
And the grinder he's using (hypertough) is WalMart's house brand...
Long time viewer here. I'm a retired mechanic and maybe on a good day I was half as good as Eric O. This man is the best mechanic on Planet Earth and maybe even other places too.😁
Takes guts to admit that.
I'm also a retired mechanic and Dr. O is definitely one of the best I've ever seen! I wish I'd had half his diagnostic skills when I was wrenching but the stuff I worked on was just starting to have the computer crap and I hated it then and still do!! 👍
Dang, Eric uses a dremel tool on-screen! May be the first time I seen him use one, and I've been here since Dr. O days.
Dr o' rocks
The Walmart knock off for the win.
My teeth 🦷 hurt just hearing that noise. Dr. O in da house
and he didn't even explode the tiny very fragile cutoff wheel! 🤣
Thanks for the tips. Today I had to track a broken fuel tank pressure sensor wire but thanks to you I immediately saw the loom damage and said that doesn't look right. I investigated and found not one,not two but three money shot wires. Fixed in 3o minutes and all is fine now. Thanks again Eric for all your videos. That teach us all everyday.
Everyone likes a quickie.
That's not what SHE said
"GIGGITY!!"
@@markh.6687 Glenn Quagmire.
Not when you've paid for it
Just JB weld the old one back on. If I ever seen one of those driving down the highway with the cardboard still on I'll know they watched your video and didn't listen to the instructions.
😂
Galvanic corrosion. The aluminum is sacrificial when coupled with steel. Noalox compound might help here when putting the new wiper arm on.
Run power out the center so you can pass it through the shaft should help as well. Send those electrons flying somewhere else.
I'm curious how long before they notice? I think I have turned mine on 2 times in 8 years..
"It parks to the right..." LOL. Great tip, Mr. O.
Mega Maga wiper blades. LOL
I had no idea that Fords dress to the right. Good to know, in case you ever make one a new pair of trousers. Thanks for the videos Mr O. Stay safe out there.
Hoping to see the bloopers reel of it operating in the wrong direction 😂😂😂!!! Keep up your amazing content Eric O and say hi to the lovely Mrs O for us!!!
An Eric O bloopers video would be awesome 🤣
This is the comment I came here to leave. 😂 Rear bumper wiper. 😂
Ugh I just jinxed myself
Aluminum and steel in close proximity... I guess the Ford engineers missed their physics class where they talked about Galvanic corrosion.
Why sell a customer a wiper when you can sell an entire motor assembly and 1hr of labor
I think just more financial planning for Ford they plan a lot of breakage and maintenance.
You can get around it with CorBan or anti size, etc. hot with some fluid film every once in awhile.
Motorcycle manufacturers do this too with frames and attach bolts. Then they put everything together dry.
Most people have more things than they have adequate resources (either time or money) to properly care for. Think Lord of the Manor in England; this won't be happening to his car because it will be garaged and cared for by his live in driver/mechanic 🤷 But I guess everyone had to make ends meet somehow. Vice Grip Garage is an example of this: only had time to care for what he's using at the time.
I too am liking the idea of a slight film of antisneeze prior to reassembly.
@@user-vf7gp1hr9c "windshield washer fluid and salt spray", says "hold my beer" and laughs as it seizes just the same.
just the washer fluid does it alone.
Dremel tool, haven't used that in a while. Make sure to use flameproof cardboard when you break out the torch.
I have a Lincoln MKC the same year and when he put the arm on I was like I'm pretty sure it goes the other way. LOL. Great quick video SMA
Well done on the correct pronunciation of "aluminium" 😀
The person who discovered the element, British chemist Humphry Davy published a chemistry textbook in 1812 which he used the spelling aluminum. This is his _final_ name for the element he discovered. Without exception, every other element discovered by a chemist, was named by the discoverer. Calling this element aluminium makes it the ONLY element whose name is not that given it by its discoverer. Thus, the pronunciation, aluminum, used in the United States, honors the wishes of the man you discovered this element by using the name _he_ gave it. (I am well aware of the IUPAC designation. They are wrong to make this the exception.)
The cardboard shield is a nice touch!
touch of sandpaper on the shaft to clean it, and a touch of grease on the new one so it will not corrode back on the shaft helps as well.
This is the best mechanic on Planet Earth. Period.
Looks like what they used to cut my cast off . I had THREE as a kid . I asked the Doc " how do you know how DEEP to cut " ? He just smiled ! THEN he said " if it didn't heal right , I'll just re-fracture it " ! 😂 OUCH ! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Unlikely. The tool/blade they use won't cut skin.
Great video ! Bonus tip - add a Little silicone grease to the splines & shaft. never have the problem again. You can get silicone grease at home depot in the faucet parts section or on the net i'm sure. Amazon. clean the splines & threads with a small wire brush for a easy thread on. wipe with rag. apply grease. install.
the junk that auto makers make these days always make being resourceful important...good job....easy peasy
Why I'm driving a 23 year old car.
Correct & Unbelievable Prices
Hey Eric, It's not what you know, its what and who you teach. Great job as always.
I was at work today and my colleague said "Happy Monday." Me, knowing we have off the 4th and the 5th said "Happy Wednesday." Now I come home and see a quick tip Tuesday. What a day!
Awesome Tip. I seen many escapes and ford edges have a key-off drain cause of the rear wiper.
I love quickies, I also miss your tool tips!
Seeing that you are using a hyper tough cutting wheel gives me a lot of inspiration. It’s the user that really counts.
Ol' Vic - Rotary Edition!
Glad I don't live in the rust belt. So many extra issues.
You are the wiper whisperer 😁!
Great tip! I have used. this method when I can't get rusted nuts off of my suspension on my Porsche 911sc project. sometimes splitting the nut is the only way to get what's left of a nut off!
I thought he was going to whack it with a chisel once it was notched. Guess that is the difference between smooth shaft, and threads.
What a nice treat! Wasn’t expecting to see one from you today!
Great tip, Mr O. Thanks for the video
Went through this with my stupid Mini in January when it was absolutely freezing out. Ended up having to cut it off but what made it frustrating on the Mini is that the washer nozze is on the end of the washer motor nubbin. So real easy to break if you're not careful and makes using pullers darn near impossible.
Anyway, great tip on the cardboard. Going to keep that in mind this winter when it breaks again.
Needs a dose of the "World Famous" Fluid Film!!!
I've only been watching your channel about a month so i've watched a few of your older one. I just watched one that Mrs O changed her back wiper her self. I think it was a 7 year old video. She didn't have that problem. She got hers off and back on and new motor for it put in by herself. Love both of yall work. Thanks
Great tip with great narration!! Helpful hints are wonderful add on to experience, since that is how experience grows!!! Thank you Sir😊
Quickes are the best!!
Another free tip👍
I closed my eyes and thought I was in the dentist’s chair 😂😂😂!!! Talk about scratching your fingers on the blackboard feeling DREADFUL!!!LOL!!!
Well done! Thanks for the tip.
Thanks for the video Eric.
Love it, thinking outside the box!
Great tip. Thank you Eric O.
Genius
thanks Eric!
Thank you Eric for saying made from aluminium...
Exactly the solution. I have an edge sport. Same repair. Great video.
Great info Eric ..thanks
Exactly what I did with my current vehicle..although I used a small saw blade....I have of course used copper grease on the new one.
Look at you, Mr. Fancy shop. Free tip and you use cardboard? What do you think I'm made out of? Solid Gold? That's gonna cost me an arm and a leg! Jeez... 😂
Thanks for always entertaining us and showing us how it's done. Have a great day, Mr. O!
Anyone who ever works on anything [80% of the population] needs to own a rotary tool like a Dremel and an assortment of accessories for it. I have accumulated 4, both corded and cordless, over the years. I continue to be amazed at how often it becomes the perfect tool to get the job done.
I did this same job for a friend just recently. Thanks for verifying that my method was correct…minus the cardboard!!!
Tech tips and taco tuesday, going to be a good day!
Well mine parks to the right too, I'll be dipped. 🤣😇
Thanks for sharing
Exactly!!I've done that a couple times on suvs!Easy
A professional mechanic using tools from Walmart can't say much I've got the same one it's a really good one for the price and that Dremel quick change set is a life saver
LOL! @ the bonus footage!! Gold! 😆
As fate would have it, I was washing my 2014 explorer sport, and the arm drooped down when I washed it. Lucky for me, the bushing split wide open along with the rest of the mount. Easy!
I had to do this with my 2008 Escape. 2nd Gen. I used visegrips and PB Blaster to get that piece off.
Good to see you're pronouncing Aloominininum correctly.
I live in New Mexico so probably don't have to worry about that problem still a good video
A friend of mine showed me a trick for this decsdes ago when removing the same thing off of his Chrysler minivan. We used a cold chisel on one side of the shaft and a hammer held to the other, creating a newtons cradle of sorts. We were hitting that wiper motor shsft HARD like this and we split that bushing and didn't break anything.
Nice helpfull tip
Theres your problem lady. Dissimilar metals corroding and getting fused together. Eric can remove any of those rusted fused bolts, sleeves, nuts, wheel bearings, and the list goes on and on. Another great job, keep up the good honest work, you and Mrs. O are a great tag team together.
Good tip
The Eore Tail. And here I thought that was a Dodge minivan thing. Today I learned.
Funny I did this years ago in a similar fashion but I should had thought to also use a big cardboard and a piece of sheet metal. I almost cut into the window but luckily I caught it in time 😂😂😂
Neat, that's a better looking arbour than on my 'Dremel '
Dremeling since 1975; one of my favorite tools (got me out of a lot of jams and also used for R.C. modeling). Go getcha one if you've never............
Hated when my flexible shaft finally broke. Being able to snake the bit was great. The saw blade still scares me. If it goes through plywood like butter, what will it do to flesh.
I just replaced one on an Edge Yesterday, but the Bushing wasn’t on the Motor Shaft. I did clean off the Splines tho to try to get a better fit tightening it the new arm back on.
U da man, Eric 👌
As many cars and as much work Mr. O is doing up there, my speculation is the new car dealers are all boarded up and just selling parts. Thanks for the tip and video...
I used to do the same with a cut off while on arcade games with the active steering wheel assemblies. Aluminum cog pulley onto a steel motor shaft. After a few years of being in use, the cogs wear down, the belt slips. And you've got a better shot at meeting Moses in the supermarket then getting it to pull off the shaft.
One cut on the side-- It'll fall off in your hand.
Awesome video I tried and failed replacing one on the Ole ladys 17 explorer, wound up just replacing the blade
Everyone loves a quickie 😂😂😂
Nothing wrong with a quickie every now and then.
Even the best ones buy tools at the walmarts. Love it.
Those Dremel 'speed clic' accessories are pricey, but well made.
I use them in my 'man cave' all the time.
Thanks!
A double whammy today. Nice 🙂
Only if the cardboard goes flyin
So, the gentleman dresses to the right. Only older folks will know that.
You know a gentleman when they remove the dishes from the bathroom sink before peeing into it.
When you have the right tool and know how to use it you can get the job done
Good to know!!! ❤❤
I use the original nut(in some way but wit cap) and Knipex pipe pliers( handel point in away from the window).
I guess, that the "one side up pull" is the bigger trick/relief her(with cone axle) then "even straight up pull".
Thanx !
Quick and Easy.
Wow Eric!....... Bonus footage on a Quick Tip Tuesday....... We must be living right in the comment section! 😮😂 You and the family have a good one and.. Go get yourself an ice cream! Tis the season...... Then again any season is the correct season for iceream! Later! JPoll. Dude could have had his own icecream machine.... Just Incredible! 😢
Simple and brilliant.
Plus RIGHTHAND parking, who needs any more!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Quickie like Wrenching with Kenny does.
Oh Yeah Babe!!! Bonus footage too!!!
After you put the cardboard on I thought Vic was coming out, scared me for a minute.
I thought magic trick. guy in the car would pull the wiper motor out and slip in a new one.
Ford Thunder
Thanks for the short video.
We all knew it parks to the right but couldn't tell you so you had to figure it out for your self... Don't worry, you'll get there
My wife has a 2016 Escape, and I only found one national parts store the carried the rear wiper blade. They can sell 12", and 13" wiper blade, but they won't sell 11" wiper blades in our area.
Oh Eric, my disappointment…….not a cordless Dremel 😮. Love those Dremels, saved me many a time.
Wouldn't aluminum expand faster than steel as well. Get the torch......
U the man
Note on the glass if you look will see Castle type shapes or squiggly lines. This will tell you where the wiper rests. Also with the wiper arm off turn on the rear wiper note which way the motor turns
This is exactly what happened to my 14 Escape. The repair shop put 4 nice dents in the body prying it off.
"Bonus footage!"
Been watching PHAD? LOL 😂
An old trick his Meemaw taught him, no doubt!
Hahahahahaha,ya know its a good one when Mr O breaks out his dremel tool!!
Awesome
