    I have to thank you, Eric, for making these videos. For the second time, something you randomly discussed in one of your videos was the answer to my car problems. Part one of this rusty prius with the rust jacking, I had been having an occasional brake squeal, so I had the wheels off today and decided to do a little brake maintenance myself. Drivers side, rusty pins, relubed, pads fine; passenger side- outside pad was fine, rusty pins again, inside pad- little rock stuck between the squealer and the pad with rust holding it in place, squealer was hitting the rotor, pad was fine. Thanks.

    I've mentioned it before, but I can't believe that most people don't use their emergency brake.
    I live in Texas, so I don't have the issues that SMAR does. Still, I use mine anytime I'm on an incline of any sort.
    That's just the way I was taught. Back in the day, the parking pawl was pretty puny (so I was told), therefore use the e-brake.

    • @LeverPhile
      @LeverPhile Год назад +1

      Agreed. I use it everytime, incline or not ... and I don't care how robust the pawl is.

      @@freak3dot I certainly use it then as well. But, I just don't understand if you live somewhere like SMA, in the north, where the salt corrodes everything... why you wouldn't use it all the time just to keep it moving.
      The one time you NEED it, it's locked up. It's bizarre to me.

    • @freak3dot
      @freak3dot Год назад +2

      @@GregTrickey It's funny, because when I was a kid, I can remember my parents driving a stick and using it every time they parked. But, nobody ever really taught me to use it regularly with an automatic.
      I live in Indiana BTW. North enough to worry about road salt and whatnot.

    Thank You, Thank You! Incredible!
    1-) I thought I knew how to do a brake job. Why? I've watched dozens on RUclips videos of brake jobs. After watching your meticulous work I'm just blown away how much work goes into repairing brakes in such terrible condition. Worth every penny to have a professional as yourself do that job. I learned a ton. Now I understand why sometimes proper brake repairs cost a few bucks.
    2-) Totally enjoying your (new?) style of content. Very complete and informative. I'm not sure how long you have been doing this totally excellent COMPLETE format. Know it is appreciated and I will go back and watch all of your previous videos similar to this one. Very improved from the vids I used to watch of yours (5-7 years ago). You are at the top of all mechanical vehicle repair professionals and RUclipsrs.
    3-) The new appreciation for your cold weather/ rust methodology is genius. You could create an advanced manual/course and any professional working with these conditions would be foolish to not take advantage of the amazing procedures that you have developed over the years. Don't think other cold weather wrenchers do the same. I can tell you from experience most DO NOT!
    Thanks again for the generosity in sharing such exclusive content IMO.
    I hope everyone benefitting from this content shows their appreciation by joining your Patreon or supports you financially in some way. I for one will be joining. Best to the family!

    I do believe Rainman Ray has the occasional experience with rust. The source is usually from the north. Every year in late December there is a large migration of Belvedere into South Florida. They are known to travel well below the speed limit. They are often recognized by their unique hair coloration: white, blue, and sometimes bald. They can often be seen grazing at the early dinner buffet. They migrate back north in April.

    Good job bro. I work on cars part time, after I get off of my full time job (truck driver) my skills are a little more sharper after I watch your videos. Thanks bro you keep sharp.

    People think it’s just brakes should be a two hour job but it’s more involved with modern cars than it ever was ... nice work ! A real tradesman 👌👌subscribed

    Just as an aside, we do have salt in Florida and it is called the Atlantic Ocean. It comes every so often and attacks the cars all the way to the dome lights.

    3 weeks ago. My sister in law called me to work on her van. They were down in our area of the woods. She sent me money ahead and I got the parts needed for a complete tune up and brakes front only. Because the local shop in her area said. Pads are good.
    She said she only needed the rotors only.
    They pull up and i start the brake rotors only task.
    I pull the pads. They are heat cracked and rust jacked bad. I tell her. Dont ever go to that local shop ever. Maybe another 100 miles and you would have lost your brakes.
    Even the back pads we're the same.
    Mr O because of you. "I can do it"
    I followed everything you do.
    I even found the rear brakes calipers pins rusted in place. It seems the last shop just slapped brakes and lube on the pins anywhere.
    Thank you Mr. O

    Living in the northeast I've replaced my fair share of brake line. I discovered ni-cop about 15 years ago and I haven't used steel since(for brake lines). Bends and flares beautifully. I have never had a failure and and haven't heard of any from friends.

      So why don't the manufacturers use the ni-cop in the first place?
