I noticed the brake dust shield still in great condition ( almost new) and the ball bearings were nuke. It must be a curb hugger loving driver owner or HONDA quality became famous GM quality.
Most RUclips videos show the procedure on a perfect car. This is what I run into when I do it. Fighting rusted bolts. Trying to find creative solutions to problems. Thanks for showing what it’s really like.
You are bad ass. Plain and simple don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Even though your running a "legit shop" you are speaking clearly to the back yard mechanics like myself who hate to pay anybody else for something they're fully capable of with the right tools. Thank you for the tips shared in video and the humor is also much appreciated. Keep doing your thing man just subbed 👍
THANK YOU. I'm 58 and have never used a garage for any work in the past but this video has convinced me that it's worth paying the local garage the £400+ (in the UK) they want for the job! You've saved me a world of pain working on the driveway! I also really admire your perseverance with that bolt at the beginning and your careful attention to detail. :-)
It's great seeing even a season mechanic celebrate with a solid "YES!!" when getting those stuck bolts. As an amateur, those are some of the most satisfying moments! Especially when it's one you've had to come back to 3 or 4 times, get a new tool for, etc.
Don't know where else to put my comment so I picked this video. Been following your channel for a few years. Just wanted to say thanks for all the great videos. I have always been mechanically inclined, but your clear concise videos have filled in some knowledge gaps and given me many good tips and techniques that I now use to maintain mine and my wife's vehicles and save lots of cash at the same time. Just this past week I replaced rear brakes (pads, rotors, calipers), rear hub assemblies, rear shocks, front tie rod ends and control arms and a new drive belt and tensioner pulley on a 2008 Honda accord with 300k +kms. Riding great again and saved tons on labour costs! Thanks again!
I will never get tired of the "Nuts and Bolts" videos. Each job presents its own set of problems. Seeing you solve those problems is very helpful. So please more nuts and bolts. Hint Hint Ford 2016 ford escape rear brakes, please..LL
Excellent addition to the video with the music around 27 minute mark - adds romanticism to the process of CRV rear wheel bearing replacement - good job Mr. O !
Not only are you well educated and brilliant...your humor exceeds that scratching noise made by the groove pik...the music was a lovely touch...(I'm a retired glass man...now I'm cracked up)
Haha someone seriously upset about which way you put the cone and said they were gonna unsubscribe-see ya! People on YT seriously starting to have issues. I don't get bent out of shape over that type of stuff..usually trying to get some sort of idea of what I'm getting myself into on a job. I do however watch your videos for entertainment, and that guy stating he was gonna leave was funny to me. You do great work Eric and the content is very valuable to a lot of people out there watching. Thank you!
Awesome video Eric as always. Thank you. The only thing I would like to offer up is when you're using BIG NASTY I would highly recommend hearing protection. I can't begin to tell you how many people in my work field that have used rivet guns have suffered permanent hearing loss and many of them wear some type of hearing aid now. They all say the same thing. They regret not using the protection. Anyway, I'm not trying to lecture you as I'm sure you already know this stuff. Thanks again for the videos.
GERRRRRREAT JOB! I watched the entire performance and 100% enjoyed it! Love that you do not use any foul language and you have a GREAT attitude even when things were getting frustratingly tough! I watched this as we test drove an older CR-V today and right off the bat I noticed a .....'sound' (Not sure hot to describe it) but I just knew it was a rear wheel bearing. And after watching this I am now 200% sure that's the noise I heard while driving it. AND after watching this, I now know I will NOT be doing this myself. I'm a backyard shade mechanic, but don't have the tools nor the patience to do this. Thanks again man...really appreciated watching this.!
This video, a rental slide hammer from AutoZone, and the Astro 72885 kit let me knock out this job this evening! Dealer wanted $600+, I did it for $120. Thanks Eric! You saved me $500! I had it a bit easier because my 06 CRV is 2wd, and I live in Texas!
I can vouch for swearing - it works for me, and has for a long time. 😂 Big Nasty has been the biggest time saver I've bought in a long time. Can't thank you enough for that recommendation. Can't believe it's coming up on a year old already! Crazy ... That time o' year again. Slammed with summer tires to swap, and lawn tractors to service. Since it's cold and rainy, and I have no heat in the new shop yet, I'm catching up on my missed RUclips vids. Missed WUW, and several others - they stack up fast! I'd better get at it. I've got another 8 hours of vids to watch ... 🤣
I'll give you the recap on all the recent videos: -Eric O brings in rusty car and it is broke -He does some repairs, cracks a few jokes. -Sprays something with brake clean -Goes on test drive and tells you to sub. -The end music plays
😂 🤣 😂 I still watched ALL of them, start to finish. We'd have way too much fun if we worked together. We'd be alot less productive ... but LOTS of laughs would happen. 😁
I just finished putting my rear bearing on my 05 Honda element only to take it for a cruise and the brand new bearing is still humming. So on RUclips I've been sitting for 49 minutes to figure out what I did wrong I think I didn't put the hub in all the way . Tomorrow I'll rip it all apart again. Loved the tool shout out at the end I've been on Amazon buying some of them for the project to make it easier. You forgot the most important tool of the video....hoist lol wish I had 1 thanks for making this video it's helped me a lot. I'm in Ontario so I feel your rust belt pain.
I admire how committed and thorough you are with your work. Too bad they're arent more guys around like you that take so much pride in doing qaulity work to make sure the people are safe going down the road. Genuinely one of the best mechanics I've ever seen. Kudos big bro. If I lived closer I'd come to you for all of my needs. (Sad face I don't live closer) lol thanks again Eric.
YOU ARE AWESOME - YOU ARE AWESOME. I know it's time consuming (moving the camera around) and editing but these shots are excellent quality. Aug 5, 2020: I had the L/R rear bearings and L/R rear struts replaced on a 2008 CRV (seems to be a piece of trash after so many repairs in just 2.5 years 2018-2019-2020 since purchasing) Yes, I understand replacement repairs after year #8, but THIS IS RIDICULOUS!! Since purchasing I have replaced: 1. both cooling fans. 2. Pwr Strg pressure hose 3. Fr. Rt. axle - TWICE!! 9 with 1 yr of each other) 4. Front L/R struts. 5. Muffler (we though was the 'loud road noise' later to find out it was the rear bearings that continued to escalate in noise recently) 6. L/R rear bearings. 7. L/R rear struts. 8. Not to mention the CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT on the driver actuator that was psycho on the auto door locks - popping up and down (saved me $350) since it was free.
you definitely have the best most fun job in the world ..... myself having been through university and from there into a highly technical med/sci career which was full of hubris, backbiting, squabbling, mountainous molehills, and fights over parking spaces, i often wish some mentor had pointed out early on that there is more than one career option and career path in life
In other instructional videos everything is always easy and clean. Like one I just saw where the presenter was showing how to replace toilet components and you could easily tell he had already taken it all apart so many times it was practically falling apart. And I try the same repair and everything is stuck and corroded and I couldn't even get the water shutoff valve for the whole house to work without spewing water. And the only way I could get the tank bolts out was to drain it, dry it, and Dremel tool them out. In the video they took out those bolts with their fingers. Eric shows all the hiccups you can run into. And the tricks to overcome them. And sometimes the tricks aren't pretty. He doesn't hide it when the S.H.T.F. And you learn how to fix things when all goes wrong. I particularly liked the one about his own Honda Civic strut replacement and the trouble he had getting those bushings to come loose. I was ready for him to just junk the car for parts. But he persevered.
I always learn more about automotive repair also think your family and your self are entertaining in doing so. Like the break fluid action with music it's definitely great.
Retired Honda-Tech here. This reminds me of why I now have arthritic hands. If I had it to do over again, I would have used padded gloves like they have now, except they weren't really around when I was active. I was one of the first to use latex gloves while all the other techs laughed about it.
Mr. O please consider putting a "fancy music" alert in the title when you use it, as some of us would enjoy having a glass Chianti during the brake clean classical musical interludes, Bravo Maestro.
I've had good luck on suspension bolts stuck in bushings, like leaf spring hangers, I air hammer the bolt head on the flats, side to side, with flat blunt tip. Deforms head a tad, but your still able to get socket on to turn out. Suprising it rattles the rust free and bolt comes out. Gotta love the northeast haha
Even though Eric O. Can do it, I know I can't do it! Lol. Honestly I could see myself trying to do this job on jack stands in my garage and total disaster would have ensued. When I got to the first step, removing those lower bolts, I would have never been able to get those out! I better stick to brake jobs and oil changes and let the rest for SMA. Great video.
Just watching this video while enjoying my morning coffee, then I got to the part in the video with the new brake clean music. Satisfying and relaxing for my viewing pleasure.
I enjoy watching your work, because of your funny commentary as you continue to tackle hard task. I'm a mechanic myself in the military and i can put myself in your shoes challenged with almost impossible repair when working out in the field. Can't wait what other repair episode you have to keep us viewers entertain. God bless and stay safe
Eric, That was another great video and very appreciated as it shows once again the stratagies for dealing with corroded/seized fasteners - as we also have here in New England (Im in E. MA). I especially liked the 'tool summary' you did at the end of the video and hope you can do that more often. Thanks!!! God bless Paul
The way I loosen them up is, using a braking bar, with a pipe at the end and pull, it usually brakes loose the toughest bolts. Having said that you are good at what do you, thanks for making the video.
I'll give ya one thing Eric you sure do get creative in you approach to loosening rusty bolts and nuts!! good job dude. your so right when ya say if I can do it, you can do it. Been there done that, at this moment in time I'm working a seized lug nut on the stud and didn't have any flame to put on it at the beginning so have had to resort to drilling the nut off the stud!! Dawg gone thats a bugger task don't want to go that coarse again... Thanks for doing the video's i not only enjoy them but i learn a few licks from the Ole' Eric O. many thanks.
I don't know what videos I like watching more, you doing battle with rust or you going full computer geek with your scan tools. Both are quite enjoyable and informative. You would make an excellent instructor once you get sick of fixing sick cars.
You have Quality videos! your detailed information, step by step procedures are next to none! I look forward to watching all of them, Thank you! Please never stop doing what you care about!
Eric, I on a 99 civic I broke the threads off the rear lower control arm bolt, which was basically a welded on nut that the bolt passes through. Made for one hell of a day. I hate the rust belt.
It seems like every time I put on a head set because my wife always say your watching Eric again. You clean out a clip ring and it's like nails on a chalk board. Warn us first sheesh. Love your channel.
I draw a paint marker line on the alignment bolts and get them to match later...a real Alignment is better in the long haul, but gets you what the picture was..Nice video! Had to look up your location as I'm in Beacon, NY. Nice and thanks for the video!
Regards from southern AZ. Would be glad to have you here. Love to watch the Professional Rust Remeadiation. Well done! Wouldn't think you use flat rate billing although. Cheers
So therefore, Honda CRV rear wheel break assembly is a combination of Disc and Drum break assembly woe, now i knew it. Thanks a lot for the informative video...
Have you ever looked into a 55 gal drum of brakes cleaner and a sure shot sprayer. I thought it might be more cost effective in the long run, not trying to bash on you. Love the vids. New tech, learned A LOT.
Hey, we all understand that you have a business to run and a living to make. We appreciate how much time and effort you put into your excellent videos. No one can moan about how many you produce. The honda gave you a good fight :-D.
Hi. Outstanding video. Totally enjoy your sense of humor which is something you DEFINITELY NEED when doing this kind of work, especially being a total rookie like me.
Another long day at work today. Thank goodness you put up a new video. Made what little day I had left better. Keep up the good work. Loved Sheba yesterday on the stream.
Hello SMA, good job for all of the video's, i watch them sinds years and love them. you present them with some humor and originality. i am ex mechanic en pensioned now, and revive my job when i see you working like i do it myself (hihi ...nostalgie ) one remarcque, you need eye-protection when using "brake cleaner". my expieriance is that when 1 tiny drop if this stuff in your naked eye and it hurts teribly, like sombody puls your eye out allive. just saying. hope you can read my written english, i am belgiam flemisch. greetz jempi.
Just noticed if I typed in South Main Auto Repair then the brand name of the vehicle after it all your vehicle specified videos list to the side. Cool way to reference your repairs. Appreciate them all Eric.
Well done! Very skilled and knowledgable. I am a little more OCD with my tools, tool cart, and so on, placement of tools and cleanliness. But that's my deal. Key is to do job right, and that you did. Thx 😉👍

I work on my four vehicles and that leads me to have the most respect possible for the work that you and your fellow technicians do. Thank you.

I vote for nuts and bolts also. I need all the help I can get. Thanks for your good video
But don't let up on the programming / electrical issues either. They're all important.
Yes, but only if they're really rusty. Otherwise they're too easy for Eric.
Excellent addition to the video with the music around 27 minute mark - adds romanticism to the process of CRV rear wheel bearing replacement - good job Mr. O !
OK, you asked, so here it is:
The good: Showing the tools you used is a huge plus.
The bad: You're not in my driveway fixing my lousy wheel bearings.
Not only are you well educated and brilliant...your humor exceeds that scratching noise made by the groove pik...the music was a lovely touch...(I'm a retired glass man...now I'm cracked up)
The Brake Cleaning Segment was ( tears) beautiful.
Got me too🎵
+what's up with that?
Yeah! I can skip my session with my therapist this week.
Had me laughing lol...Mr.O you have a great sense of humor!!! 😂🤣😅
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Haha someone seriously upset about which way you put the cone and said they were gonna unsubscribe-see ya! People on YT seriously starting to have issues. I don't get bent out of shape over that type of stuff..usually trying to get some sort of idea of what I'm getting myself into on a job. I was an auto tech for 40+ years, I just retired. I do enjoy watching your videos and can relate to what you are going through.
Arizona is glorious, lived here my whole life. It is not uncommon to see cars still on the road from the 80s even 70s
I love being part of the SOUTH MAIN AUTO family!!!! I'm ALWAYS excited when I see a video uploaded!!!!
GERRRRRREAT JOB! I watched the entire performance and 100% enjoyed it! Love that you do not use any foul language and you have a GREAT attitude even when things were getting frustratingly tough! "When I retire I'm going to some place like Arizona" We'd love to have you and your family Eric! Another epic video. Thank you
This video, a rental slide hammer from AutoZone, and the Astro 72885 kit let me knock out this job this evening! Dealer wanted $600+, I did it for $120. Thanks Eric! You saved me $500! I had it a bit easier because my 06 CRV is 2wd, and I live in Texas!
You sir are no mechanic, you are an artist!
Amen.
BRILLIANT MEK UH NIK!!!
I can vouch for swearing - it works for me, and has for a long time. 😂
Big Nasty has been the biggest time saver I've bought in a long time. Can't thank you enough for that recommendation. Can't believe it's coming up on a year old already! Crazy ...
That time o' year again. Slammed with summer tires to swap, and lawn tractors to service. In between all that I helped my buddy's crew finish the siding on the ol' barn. That's all done - now I just need a floor to put my lift on! Brand new lift is going to be a pile of RUST by the time I get it installed. Such is life ... MY life, lol.
Since it's cold and rainy, and I have no heat in the new shop yet, I'm catching up on my missed RUclips vids. Missed WUW, and several others - they stack up fast! I'd better get at it. I've got another 8 hours of vids to watch ... 🤣
I'll give you the recap on all the recent videos:

I still watched ALL of them, start to finish. We'd have way too much fun if we worked together. We'd be alot less productive ... but LOTS of laughs would happen. 😁
I think this is the first all wheel drive rear disc wheel bearing r&r that I have seen. Very useful, thanks.
It’s so therapeutic to watch a wheel bearing job from SMA.
More pick scraping please! You make my day ever time you introduce the brake clean and post a video! Nice job. Thanks for the video.
you definitely have the best most fun job in the world ..... myself having been through university and from there into a highly technical med/sci career which was full of hubris, backbiting, squabbling, mountainous molehills, and fights over parking spaces, i often wish some mentor had pointed out early on that there is more than one career option and career path in life
The brake cleaner dream sequence should get an academy award for special effects…😎
Great job. Enjoyed it. So thankful for your proper language. No cussing.
It was precious to see all the rust coming out of the control arm around 12 minute mark while using the air hammer
In other instructional videos everything is always easy and clean. Like the break fluid action with music it's definitely great.
I love that sound when you scrape the groove with the pick. Wish you made a whole video of just that for 60 minutes.
Your videos are as good as they get. I laughed out loud every time you showed the brake clean and played the short dramatic music.
The joys of being a mechanic
Love your garage name lol. I subbed.
A lot of people think us mechanics have it easy and we don't.
The Astro 498 has saved my butt twice so far. Was a bit hard to source bits, but my Mac guy was able to get me a taper and chisel bit.
I love your videos .... for the life of me I can't figure out why you don't move down south and not struggle with every bolt you take out !!
A true professional! I can't find any faults in the repair... better than I would've done on my own car.
Retired Honda-Tech here. This reminds me of why I now have arthritic hands. If I had it to do over again, I would have used padded gloves like they have now, except they weren't really around when I was active. I was one of the first to use latex gloves while all the other techs laughed about it.
Did I just spend 15 minutes watching Dr. O remove a bolt? He literally makes bolt removal interesting...
Useful information brought to us in a very entertaining way. You continue to be THE MAN Dr. O. Great video.
Mr. O please consider putting a "fancy music" alert in the title when you use it, as some of us would enjoy having a glass Chianti during the brake clean classical musical interludes, Bravo Maestro.

Just watching this video while enjoying my morning coffee, then I got to the part in the video with the new brake clean music. Satisfying and relaxing for my viewing pleasure.
The sound of the pick scraping the bearing retention clip recess, is now considered a desirable ASMR trigger.
I don’t always make a perfect flare on a brake line but when I do i put the nut on the wrong way.
NOCAREBEAR , that’s tradition,!
Forgot to mention the great dialogue and precise detail. Dave from the uk.
Nice work! Thanks for coming in today!
Your channel must be hard on the haters. They don't get under your skin and you make the rest of us laugh at them!
Eric,
That was another great video and very appreciated as it shows once again the stratagies for dealing with corroded/seized fasteners - as we also have here in New England (Im in E. MA). I especially liked the 'tool summary' you did at the end of the video and hope you can do that more often. Thanks!!!
God bless
Paul
Tremendous tutorial !
Extraordinary detail !! Perfect camera shots !!! Super helpful coaching !!!! I learned lots !!!!! Thanks mate 👊🏼🔥.
Eric, welcome to European Honda, bushes always sods, reset,I’m enjoying watching your aproch.
funniest, coolest dang mechanic I ever seen. Damn near like art what you do.
as my wife says--- you're not a pessimist, you are a realist!
This was far more helpful than my $1500 annual professional data subscription with its very sparse "how to's." Thank you!
Well, that was done all zippy zap like! Glad the rust gave you a break and those bolts popped right out. Thanks Dr. O!
U and me both!
I've spent the last 12 winters in Lake Havasu City, AZ. No rust, No safeties, and No tax on personal transfers Heaven.
Still my favorite auto repair channel...hope to make an appointment soon to get something done. You still rock man!!
You`ve been insanely busy because people see all your skills at work !
When I heard "..and this is everyone's favorite part" I was confused, then my ears started to bleed! 10/10
The way I loosen them up is, using a braking bar, with a pipe at the end and pull, it usually brakes loose the toughest bolts. Having said that you are good at what do you, thanks for making the video.
I really enjoyed "Brake Clean Symphony #2". :)
Sounded like Fugue in Brake Clean Minor to me. *shrugs
Its a serenade, not symphony.
El Cheapo totally agree was awesome
The tango of brake clean and metallic parts is the best.
I also add antiseeze to the rotor retaining screws. Otherwise, we do everything exactly the same. Bravo bud.
I'll give ya one thing Eric you sure do get creative in you approach to loosening rusty bolts and nuts!! good job dude. your so right when ya say if I can do it, you can do it. Been there done that, at this moment in time I'm working a seized lug nut on the stud and didn't have any flame to put on it at
the beginning so have had to resort to drilling the nut off the stud!! Dawg gone thats a bugger task don't want to go that coarse again... Thanks for doing the video's i not only enjoy them but i learn a few licks from the Ole'
Eric O. many thanks.
I don't know what videos I like watching more, you doing battle with rust or you going full computer geek with your scan tools. Both are quite enjoyable and informative. You would make an excellent instructor once you get sick of fixing sick cars.
Praying you guys are safe during this virus time . Enjoy your videos. Thanks Dan
Didn't think I'd sit for an hour video. Damn fine job.
Eric O doing his favorite thing.. . Hondoo repairs. !!
Good Engineering makes my life so N I C E !!!

Sorry haha ;)
toss the wide out and keep youtube?
I draw a paint marker line on the alignment bolts and get them to match later...a real Alignment is better in the long haul, but gets you what the picture was..Nice video! Had to look up your location as I'm in Beacon, NY. Nice and thanks for the video!
Thankyou for the tool part numbers and buying them through Amazon.
Really Great Job!
The music to go with the Godfather of brake cleaner.
You are really doibg a good job, lots of patience and careful not to damage other parts. Wish I live closed to your shop.
Regards from southern AZ. Would be glad to have you here. Love to watch the Professional Rust Remeadiation. Well done! Wouldn't think you use flat rate billing although. Cheers
It's a good thing you've got those rubber gloves on. Your hands are nice and clean!!!!
I like the slo mo brake clean spray along with the fancy music!
Hey, we all understand that you have a business to run and a living to make.
We appreciate how much time and effort you put into your excellent videos.
No one can moan about how many you produce.

Just noticed if I typed in South Main Auto Repair then the brand name of the vehicle after it all your vehicle specified videos list to the side. Cool way to reference your repairs. Appreciate them all Eric.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Great joB
Well done! Very skilled and knowledgable. I am a little more OCD with my tools, tool cart, and so on, placement of tools and cleanliness. But that's my deal. Key is to do job right, and that you did. Thx 😉👍
Mrs. O is your lucky charm, as soon as she came into view that bolt started to move.
