if you can. check out ( on your own time unless you want it as a request) the version with the collab with the lead singer from papa roach with added English lyrics.. its powerful in a way i cant explain..
The band's name HU means HUman as in they are the humans. The basics of the lyrics are telling anyone that would stand against them would have a fight on their hands. to paraphrase some of the lyrics, 'If you come at me like a tiger I will be an elephant' meaning whatever you throw at me you will get twice back from me. Native Americans can trace their origins back to the Siberian and Mongolian peoples in culture and many of their identity aspects.
Love how music art forms cross cultures….Mongolian music sounds … Viking…. sounds Ancient Celtic … Native American … all interconnected… wonderful choice for review🎶 Thank you!!
I love me The Hu!!! They did a collaboration with Izzy Hale called Song of Women which was great. Also did a collab with Jacoby from Papa Roach of this song - Wolf Totem! Please check out more!
You are 1000% correct !!!! their collaborations with Jacoby Shaddix and Lizzy Hale are epic. Song of Women is just powerful, as is Wolf Totem. If you want to see something really cool put "biyelgee flash mob 2019 / The Hu - wolf totem". It is over a hundred dancers of the Biyelgee style of Mongolian folk dance in a central square in Ulan Bator, the capital of Mongolia dancing to Wolf Totem. I get the shivers every time I watch it, at least once a week. After The HU Band, I got very interested in folk metal and discovered other groups from other countries with a similar type of sound. Wagakki Band of Japan is one example of the art of combining traditional folk metal and rock influences. They are not as raw and powerful as Hu Band, but they do some amazing and beautiful work. Then there is Bloodywood, and Indian folk metal band that is also very impressive. From Siberia there is Otyken, who started off with some great folk metal sounds but soon became very commercialized, which is a shame. If you check them out look at their early stuff. In keeping with the general Asian theme, there is Ni Ni Music, a young lady from Taiwan who does metal and rock covers with traditional Chinese string instruments and also makes some electrified versions for herself. She and another musician from Taiwan did a cover of "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" that brought me to tears. Then there is Moyun, a Chinese lady who does rock and metal covers on the guzheng, a zither-like instrument that looks like a horizontal harp. there's another Asian artist who pays the guzheng as a busker in Europe who is also fire. I just can't remember her name. This has nothing to do with folk metal but you might like it anyway, her name is MiuMiu Guitargirl. She's now 10 years old, but has been playing musical instruments since she was 3 and at 6 did a one-man-band cover of Hotel California that even Don Henley and Joe Walsh raved over. She's a multi-instrumentalist and also sings with just the sweetest voice you could imagine. Sorry to get carried away but I get enthused to show new things to music aficionados like myself. Just don't miss the HU Band Flashmob, it is just amazing.
I was able to get tickets to the Hu live in Las Vegas. Probably THE best show I have seen. The vibe was amazing!! !Doesn't matter about the lyrics, the energy they put in to their show was amazing!
I'm very heartened and pleased. That when a artist reaches star status they share their good fortunes and success with their home communities. Good for the band ( The Hu ) BTW love this band and their sound!
If you leave the close captioning turned on, the lyrics are generally translated on their videos. And you are correct- the breakdown of the lyrics for this song are basically saying, if you come in peace, we're cool, but if you're trying to cause trouble we will annhililate you.
I saw these guys live at a festival here in the UK. I think they spoke about 3 words of English, 'Let's Rock' being 2 of them. The little tent they played was full of metal heads and you could see the band members peeking out before they started their set slightly nervously. Everyone, and I mean everyone in the crowd was chanting 'Hu' as they came out. I don't think they were expecting that kind of welcome. A genuinely fantastic moment.
Absolutely! Late 2019 I saw this very video of theirs, then watched one other. Then I immediately found that they'd be paying at a small venue 2hrs away. Bought tickets right then! It was such an amazing show. The energy in the place was like nothing else. I was so happy to have been able to see them in such a small space.
I'm pea green with envy. How was it? How many people are actually in the band? What sort of show do they put on? I imagine a sort of Mongolian Rammstein. I would LOVE to see them live.
I saw them in 2019 and they were pretty good, but I saw them again last fall and they were fantastic! Production value has gone up significantly and you can tell they're putting a lot of effort into improving their performances and engaging with crowds that have no idea what they're saying. I would also highly recommend doing the meet and greet if you can. They're super nice and very excited to be sharing their instruments and music with the world. Also this fall the band had 7 members on stage I think. That's what my video showed, but only the 4 main guys did the meet and greet.
I love the symbolism of that horsed warrior in the beginning, how they come over the hill on their modern version of horses. These are the descendants of the ancient Mongols who conquered China, who the Great Wall was built to defend against, who ruled an empire more than twice the size of the Romans, Phoenicians, or Alexander the Great. We still have a version of the word Mongol in the word mogul as in " A great business mogul". The word "Hu" they are chanting means "Our people".
I’m a 76 year old woman and this is the second time I’ve watched The Hu’s Wolf Totem. I have the same visceral reaction of preparing for war every single time. Really like this band
I love this group. Such tribal music that speaks to the soul no matter your gender or background. It feels like they are singing and playing to my DNA. ❤
The Hu is excellent. I'm eagerly awaiting the day when Polo discovers Heilung. That's a whole ass rabbit hole to go down. Germanic vocals and throat singing combined with Viking invading beats. Buckle up Polo. ❤
This is fantastic! I have Native American blood in me so this sorta touches my heart. But this is very unique. I love it as it looks like you do to by your reaction.
Agree totally. I grew up going to pow wows in Michigan and I totally live the drums in the song, reminds me a bit of native drums. I'd love a native American metal band to get this kind of attention. I've poked arounda but but haven't found anything good. Heilung is another great band with a native sound though it's more Nordic/Celtic.
Y'all are cousins with the Mongols! You're the ones who walked across the Bering Straight land bridge, they're the ones who stayed... Genetically proven. (Most Native Americans, at least - some more recent groups are unrelated.)
I love watching people who haven't heard The Hu before (Or only the one song? I know you watched Yuve Yuve Yu) listen for the first time. The reactions and pure delight are so lovely to see. If you like the Hu, you should definitely check out Tengger Cavalry; they're a larger, more traditional group, but have a similar sound. I'd also love to see you react to Bloodywood Gaddaar and Alien Weaponry Tai Kangata if poss!
I've only heard a little bit from these guys but I love the intensity, power, and the different sounds from the instruments and singing. Really nice combination!
And a new Hu-man is born. They are absolutely awesome in concert. I've seen them live six times. Have both albums, in almost all versions and both cd's. Fantastic, personable group of young men.
I saw these guys in concert a couple of Summers ago. They know how to play to an audience well and they put on a good show. I'd see them again in a heartbeat.
I didn't think I would like this group when I stumbled on them. Man , was I wrong. I love them. You can feel the Mongolian heritage and history in these guys.
The first time i listened/watched this, i was looking for new Native American Rock bands and this popped up. I was hooked that very monent! The HU has a nunber of good tracks.. Dam good stuff 💪🏽🪶💥
Thank you for reacting to this!! The Great Chinggis Khan, Sugaan Essena, Yuve Yuve Yu, and Sad But True(Metallica cover_ are my other favorites by them-
Oh, you are about to fall down a glorious rabbit hole! Because one by these guys isn't enough! By the way, they are classically trained musicians, with all sorts of degrees and awards. And something about their music woke up the howling Viking that makes up half my DNA!
Every reactor I have watched has done the head bob thing within the first 15 seconds of the start of the song. Good reaction. Thank you for your time. 👍👏
3:50 “If you come with evil intentions we’ll give you a fight.” Stuff I read. Mongolia is the most sparsely populated country. 30% of the people are nomadic. Genghis Kahn and company took over more territory than anyone ever. If you joined them their reputation would protect you. If not, you died. Mongolia was never conquered. The president of Mongolia was one of the bikers.
I saw them 1 time before I left America. I met a few of them after the show too. Super nice guys but no one speaks english. They were very appreciative of the American audience love they got. I really like them.
The first time I heard throat singers it was at a festival in Seattle. I was amazed by their ability to vocalize 2 different tones at the same time. I had never heard this group before and I love the mix of their ethnic sound and art in a more western presentation. Very powerful!
I always imagine someone saying the sentence "Look at the cute pony mum!" and everyone hiding in panic about 900 years ago when I hear The Hu. Maybe because every time I listen to them my neighbors starts building walls and motes around their houses...
The Hu are amazing. Throat singing extraordinaire. The people of Chinggis Khan. A mix of indigenous and cultural music meets rock and metal. Impressive stuff. Thanks for sharing.
For something a little bit more low key, relaxing and stunningly beautiful by the Hu "Mother Nature" feat. LP It's just gorgeous the way they harmonize. I am sure closed captions for English is available.
Every new song you hear from the Hu it just gets better and better. You're about to go on another Tool journey just with a vastly different band. ❤ Much love.
These guys are freakin badass! Using their traditional throat singing and putting it to metal. They were actually part of the tribute to the Metallica Black album anniversary and did their version of Sad But True. It takes some special skill to sing this throat sounds
Seen them live about 2 years ago and it was absolutely fantastic!!! Would go see them again in a second and highly recommend seeing them. They had a ton of energy
I had some really loud and obnoxious neighbors who didn’t know what respect for others was but they have learned after a week of listening to the HU on full blast. They have become the perfect neighbors…😊
The first time I heard this song I was marching on the treadmill felt like I was marching into battle and it's been on my playlist ever since. Love it!
I love The Hu.The throat singing is so amazing. Danil Danzheev, Ezendey Balbin are a duo who do this too.Danil is a Russian pro MMA fighter ,and Ezendey is Mongolian(I believe).
Thank you for this. I used to listen to them all the time with my late partner. When he passed I could not do it because it made me miss him even more. It has now been four years and I find I can listen again to some of the best music ever.❤❤❤❤
Great band Great reaction I personally would of suggested their song Yuve Yuve Yu. Both songs are amazing but I feel Yuve has more of a rock feel to it where this one has more of the Mongol sound to it.
I love these guys and I'm so happy you got to hear and react to them. Makes me want to go out and bust down a wall as well. The sound from just those two strings is incredible, and that throat singing... Now you gotta do a reaction to Yuve Yuve Yu!
Welcome to the wonderful world of the Hu band! The combination of traditional instruments and throat singing. It doesn’t matter if you can’t speak Mongolian- you know what they’re saying. Mother Nature ft LP is my favorite but really you can’t go wrong with whatever you choose next!
When this first came out I was jazzed because it was the first time I heard an actual Altai group & throat singing since I watched Marco Polo on Netflix
PLEASE WATCH: "The Song of Women" and 'Mother Nature", by the Hu and two separate female collaborators. The two videos are unbelievably beautiful to both the ears and the eyes!
I was recently introduced to this band and was instantly astounded by their creativity. They recently made an appearance in Chat., the stage presence was great.
I saw Hu, and that looked familiar, but until the music started playing, I couldn't place them. I heard this when it first came out. And haven't heard anything since. Music and rhythm are deep in all humans dna. And I remembered this from one hearing years ago. Music is The Universal language.
I love this band. Heard this song a few years ago. Had to go check out a few more songs by them. Immediately added them to my playlist. They’ve done a few Mongolian/American collaborations with artists like Papa Roach and Lizzy Hale of Halestorm. You need to check out more of their songs.
Along the same lines, you'll probably love "Altay". It's a a collaboration between Ummet Ozcan, a Dutch/Turkish DJ/singer/producer, and Otyken (oh-too-ken), a band comprised of members of different indigenous Siberian tribes. And there's throat singing in there too.
Mongolian heavy Metal \m/ check out their cover of Metallica's Sad but True. They sing it in their language but word for word. The video is so cool. Very refreshing seeing this beautiful culture ❤️
I do believe this video does have closed captioning. You can watch it again some other time so you can know the lyrics. They truly are remarkable. I love it when music influences different cultures to make it their own. A little unrelated, you should consider putting a link to the original video in the description so people don't have to search for the video. Just a suggestion. :) I really love your channel. Thank you for the genuine reactions without the fluff of other reaction channels.

The combination of throat singing and the traditional instruments into something more like Western metal is just amazing.

I love me The Hu!!! They did a collaboration with Izzy Hale called Song of Women which was great. Also did a collab with Jacoby from Papa Roach of this song - Wolf Totem! Please check out more!

The Metallica cover was top tier too
They also did a collab with William Duvall from Alice in Chains in their song This is Mongol Warrior Souls.

I was able to get tickets to the Hu live in Las Vegas. Probably THE best show I have seen. The vibe was amazing!! !Doesn't matter about the lyrics, the energy they put in to their show was amazing!
These Mongolian artists are reviving traditional music, including the art of throat singing, and using it to benefit the modern Mongolian people. 💜

Music and lyrics by Ghengis Khan himself. This is the war song of of the Golden Horde. They changed the instrumentation, though.
Since you mentioned him, you'd probably like their song "The Great Chinggis Khaan". Also, majority of their songs have subtitles.
Great stuff...a war chant. The song basically tells a variety of potential enemies they will be defeated if they attack.
The ONLY band in the world that can chant their own band name constantly and make it work!!
These guys rock & are so badass! Love the way they are keeping this art form tradition alive 💯🎯

Absolutely love Mongolian throat singing! Once bought a tape from a street band with my pocket money as s kid.
If you know history well... this carries an element of terror
Love this song! The version with the lead singer from Papa Roach is good as well. Totally worth a video for that version as well.
I saw Hu, and that looked familiar, but until the music started playing, I couldn't place them. I heard this when it first came out. And haven't heard anything since. Music and rhythm are deep in all humans dna. And I remembered this from one hearing years ago. Music is The Universal language.
The cover of Iron Maiden's "The trooper" is just amazing
Just saw them live last night in Montreal, it was amazing
Polo, I come back almost every day and watch this with you. Such a great reaction!!
found this group a few years back ....sometimes nothing else fits the mood but this ! love it : )
Mongolian heavy Metal \m/ check out their cover of Metallica's Sad but True. They sing it in their language but word for word. The video is so cool. Very refreshing seeing this beautiful culture ❤️
Saw these guys in Minneapolis 3-4 years ago! Amazing show.
I really love your channel. Thank you for the genuine reactions without the fluff of other reaction channels.
