@poloreacts27 Jaya is the foot tapper, Temka is watching soccer, Galaa is eating popcorn and Enkush is sleeping. Temka's guitar is called a tovsuur and the instruments Galaa and Enkush are playing are called morin kuur. A couple of years ago, Jaya received an award for being the best flautist in all of Mongolia and he taught at the Mongolian Conservatory of Music for 10 years. Yuwe Yuwe Yu means How strange. They're talking about how Mongolian youth do not follow the ancestors.
I know I'm late here commenting about this freaking amazing band The Hu. Thank-you so much for letting us know about these men. Their out of this world instruments. Please let this band know. Their loved and appreciated & you too?
If you loved this, you'll REALLY love their song 'Wolf Totem'. My opinion? The Hu showcases the magic of music...rocking is universal, no matter the language.
During Covid, unable to tour, they made videos introducing who they are. All are teachers, University professors and monks. They are deeply into promoting the history of Mongolia and preserving Mongolian culture. Many of their songs are history lessons. The instruments are Morin Khuur (horsehead fiddle), Tovshuur (Mongolian guitar), Tumur Khuur (jaw harp)
I discovered this band by accident, because of the Netflix series Marco Polo. There was a scene with Mongolian throat singing and was like, I need to hear more of that. So, I started looking for Mongolian music online and on Spotify. Eventually, I ran across the HU and was hooked.
Holy $#!T!!! Me too! LOVED THAT SHOW...still pissed it didn't get a final season like everyone wanted!! I have a whole workout playlist that is just tribal AF, The Hu, Miracle of Sound, Skalsgurd (misspelled for sure...lol).
Wolf Totem got me hooked in the first 10 seconds. As soon as the video ended, I watched another one, then immediately looked to see if they were touring the US. I found they were coming to a small venue about 2hrs away and bought tickets before I even knew who might go with me. This was thankfully before the pandemic. They were amazing live! So much power, and it was such a small venue, it was exciting to be so close to these musicians.
Interesting fact. The 2 big string instruments (don't remember the name) are traditionally played seated. They said it took them months to be able to play standing up
This song in particular is about their culture and the people, they are singing to remind them of who they are and be part of the way it was. Something like that. For sure in future used captions. Glad you rocked with this.
I accidentally stumbled upon Hu from an article covering rock bands from around the world. I was like “Huh.. a Mongolian metal band?” Pulled up Wolf Totem and was blown away. I stuck with that one for a few days until I saw a reaction to Yuve Yuve Yu and thought “Crap, this is the real deal!” Just like others have said you have to listen to the original Wolf Totem song but I feel the one that they did with Jacoby Shaddox doesn’t get enough love. That video and song remix is amazing AND Jacoby actually sings the song in English. They have a LOT of good songs. The one they did with Lzzy Hale is good too.
There’s a version of the video out there with the English translation and the lyrics are deep. All about summoning the power of the ancestors in their blood.
I heard about this band when I was backpacking through Mongolia a few years ago and made a RUclips video of the trip with this song and Wolf Totem (which I also recommend). I had to listen to it on repeat while editing, some songs when I do this I get sick of, but The Hu have never gotten old. I'm so glad you listened to it and can't wait for more!
I can't get enough of this band. I am singing this all the time in my head and out of my mouth it comes Yuve yuve yu! They are so unique and yet this is so catchy.
Glad to see you branching out...even further :-) I used to be into a Thai Metal band "The Sun" which is fantastic. A while ago I found the Hu. Now I see you are bringing the special sauce to the masses! Thanks, Polo.
I checked them out a while ago. They are amazing. They use traditional Mongolian instrument Morin khuur and traditional throat singing technique. Very unique. Also I went to their concert in Europe, they are even amazing live.
That instrument called Morin Khuur, also known as the horse-head fiddle. It is Mongolian traditional bowed stringed instrument which is also have a sound like horse neighing.
I LOVE THIS BAND! I have recently become a fan and they are so freaking satisfying for some reason!! Should check out more of their stuff for sure. They did a song with Lzzy Hale for mothers that was beautiful too.
If you look at his guitar closely, you'll see it's shaped to represent a bow and arrow. I thought that was very interesting. Horses and archery are very important in Mongolian culture.
I picked up the gereg a few years ago, but never listened to it till Wed. I thought, l bought it, I should listen. and omg!! why did I not listen before!!! my favorite right now is Shireg shireg. but I'm still learning the song names, but loving every song!! gotta get their new disk!!
If you want a battle track from The Hu, you need to listen to Wolf Totem. You definitely need to listen to more folk metal. Traditional instruments mixed with the energy of metal is always amazing. Korpiklaani from Finland, Alien Weaponry from New Zealand, and Bloodywood from India are some of my favorites.
Everything i have heard from them i like. They all have degrees in music. One is wven a University professor of music. Taking traditional Mongolian singing and instruments and bringing them into a new century. I think they are glibally popular because there is something primal that people relate to even without knowing the lyrics. Wolf totum is actually all lines from warrior Ghingus Khan and even if you do not see closed caption you can tell the song is about protecting the klan even if you must go to war and you will destroy the enemy.
It's very cool to see the vid with the lyrics, too; it's basically about the return of Ghengis Khan. I about fell out of my chair the first time I saw/heard this piece, & now can sing along with it even tho it's only sounds. But I LOVE it. And the production values of this video are better than a lot of big budget movies I've seen.
Two of them play the morin khuur , also known as the horsehead fiddle. The three stringed guitar is a Tovshuur. Turn on the CC to see the lyrics in English.
The instrument that looks similar to a stand up base is a horse head fiddle in English language. I forget the Mongolian name. The instrument that you thought was a guitar isn’t. It’s called a tovshuur. If you look closely it’s only got 3 strings. The horse head fiddle only has 2, they both get amazing sound though.
70 years old metal fan (UK) discovered the Hu just before Covid. Excellent band, I believe all classically trained and the guitar you mentioned if you look closely it's modelled on a bow and arrow. Listen to some of their other music, so good.
These guys are fantastic!!!! First hear for me and will be checking out more of them....love your reaction...it will be interesting to see what you play next and their luthiers to boot a lot of talent there!!!
Aye!! There's your reaction!! :D As I said before, this band is INCREDIBLE! I definitely recommend Wolf Totem, Black Thunder(extended), and The Great Chinggis Khaan. Also their cover of Sad But True is EPIC!! Guitar? Oh, you must mean the horsehead fiddle-
I love these guys.I listen to them all the time. There a several throat singers that are very good. There is a version with English lyrics running along the bottom. This song is about what or where have the traditions on Mongol culture and their heroes gone .
Found your reaction-vid under the original video from the HU. Never seen any of your videos before but loved to see how the vibes of Yuve Yuve Yu cought you in an instant. If it helps: you're not the only one who experienced this. 😉 Greetings from Cologne
There is a band called Heilung. They sing in multiple languages, some no longer spoken, and they make many of their instruments from animal bones and skin. Check them out!
They actually have a bunch of RUclips vids about their daily lives and even a cooking show. Very much worth checking out if you want to know more about those instruments.
oh if you loved this, you need to check out Chinggis Khan, Song of woman (feut Lizzy Hale), Black Thunder, Star Wars Jedi: The Fallen Order & Sad But True (Metallica Cover).. this band is simply amazing! If you want other music that might surprise you, I would highly suggest Feuerschwanz, Saltatio Mortis & Alien Weaponry
The Hu Band (not to be confused with The Who or the Guess Who) deserves much more attention than they get, thanks for the reaction. I guess you'll be reacting to Wolf Totem soon enough.
Get ready to become Mongol 😂. Before I turn all fanboy on you, I’m a 57 year old US Army Cold War era Veteran of German/Irish/Cherokee ancestry. That said, I absolutely love The HU!!!! The first song of theirs I heard and watched was “Wolf Totem” (and I had CC turned on), and that music and throat singing reached deep inside me to an ancient and primal part of my soul and woke it up, it was so new yet familiar at the same time, and I can’t get enough of them. There are many songs they have out, videos too, and they’re all good. Check out “Song of Women” featuring Lzzy Hale of Halestorm, and “Mother Nature”, you won’t be disappointed.
❤️One of my favorite bands! Always so much fun! "Mother Nature" is their Newest release it is so mellow and melodic! "Black Thunder" will rock your face off! Love The HU! "Bii Biyblebee" will make you want to dance!❤️
The instrument is the Mongolian Morin Khuur and the band is amazing, the one person with the blue ish instrument also does Mongolian throat singing in the video.
they use traditional magnolian instruments and made it so they hold them like a guitar instead of vertical. They put throat singing and metal together.
The two instruments that they are playing with the horse heads are called horse head fiddles. They are traditional Mongolian instruments are have ben used for hundreds of years. There type of singing is also a traditional method called Mongolian throat singing
The HU is amazing. I see from other comments pretty well every one of their tracks has already been mentioned. I'm not sure they have a genre per se, although I hear 'Mongolian Folk Metal' being thrown around. Not the same thing, per se, but if you like Rock/Metal from around the world may I suggest- Wagakki Band (Japan) Use of traditional and new instruments fused together Ningen Isu (Japan) One of Japan's oldest Metal bands I wanna say you've done BabyMetal on this channel arleady, so I'll omit that one. Bloodywood (India)- Indian Folk Metal also combining traditional instruments and language with modern guitar riffs and english lyrics interspersed Alien Weaponry (New Zealand)- A group of talented young rockers who sing many of their songs in traditional Maori language, but also some in English. Heilung (Norse) Norse inspired bone instruments and Skald like singing, a very unique experience. Van Canto (Italy) They cover rock songs- but are completely A capella... I'm not even sure that's the right term. They make the instrument sounds with their mouths. It defies explanation. I think that's a good starting point.
The HU's music has enticed a number of English singers to be featured and sing along side the song. Here is one of them "The HU - Wolf Totem feat. Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach (Official Music Video)" ruclips.net/video/sv29DzgiXZA/видео.html
Check out The HU's new video Mother Nature with LP. It is a different side of the band yet very cool. Thanks for sharing your exploration of music outside your comfort zone. Your journey has expanded my music appreciation as well.
Suggestion/recommendation for Viking metal (with symphonic metal as well in this particular case!). The band is Skálmöld (Age of war in English), an Icelandic Viking metal band that has many amazing songs. The one I recommend in particular and would love to see your reaction to is the song Kvaðning (Mustering in English). Shortly summarized, the album that this song is on tells a story of a warrior who has given up us former life to live as a farmer, until enemies come, slaughter his family and he is set on a path of revenge. The song Kvaðning is about him overcoming his grief and despair to "muster" himself into battle again to find his revenge. The lyrics are in Icelandic and the particular version I recommend is the live concert with Skálmöld and the symphonic orchestra of Iceland (hence the symphonic metal aspect!). Skálmöld & Sinfóníuhljómsveit Íslands - Kvaðning: ruclips.net/video/yAyFyEFoZvs/видео.html
Welcome to The HU, the band that made Mongolian folk music meet western rock music. Their singing is called throat singing and they opened up for other bands like the mostly female band OTYKEN here in their song "Legend" ruclips.net/video/tXLoP9iSU5Y/видео.html . It is going to open up a new world of music where rock meets traditional music. Great reaction to the HU.
Saw these guys live a couple of years ago at a small venue for $20. Grabbed a bite to eat at the Greek place across the street before the show and a couple of them were there. They are cool and very talented
It's a unique looking guitar because it's not a guitar. Perhaps to put this in perspective you should watch some Huun Huur Tu. You should take a deep dive with Tuvan folk music. The main vocal techniques here are (I think) Sygyt and Kargyraa. The two instruments featured are Igil (the bowed instrument) and Doshpuluur (the three stringed instrument.
welcome to the world of folk metal We have everything from Mongolian throat singing to African traditional music you can headbang too here is a list of bands I'd recommend Wagakki band - Japan Alien weaponry- New Zealand (Maori metal) Bloodywood- India Arkona- Russia Hassak- THey are a Kazakh ethno ensemble bu their song "Amanat" would not be out of place at a metal concert Percival - Poland/pan slavic (more leaning on the folk but defnetly have metal influences) Tyr- Faroe Islands Manntra- Croatia (I'd suggest songs like Vila, Lipa or Ori Ori) MiracleOfSound - Ireland (Look up his songs "Tale of Cu Chullain " or "Grainn Mahoil" ) Al namrood- Saudi arabia Cemican- Mexico Dubioza Kolektiv- .... OK They don't really count as folk metal ... they don't count as any genre really because they jsut blend everything from metal, to Regge to rap ...and they are from Bosnia nad Hertzegovina would suggest songs like "No Escape", "space song", "Himna generacije", "USA" Arka'n Asrafokor- Togo
What's pretty cool, is that the band was approached to write and perform a song for Jedi Fallen Order, which is played at the beginning, if I remember correctly
Thanks for watching this was amazing please be sure to like the video on your way out. To support the show here www.patreon.com/poloreacts or show your love for the channel by buying me a coffee www.buymeacoffee.com/poloreacts 🤞🏾
Ethnic Zorigoo-Khuleg baatar is mongolian throat singing group but they rap. Check them out
You got to do Wolf totem
you gonna love it
The iconic Violin is a mongolian horse-violin. It has a wonderful myth behind it how it was made originally
Hi!! Try “Mother Nature” by the Hu featuring LP!!!!!!!!

Yessss
I literally thought to myself their sounds appeal to the hillbilly blood in me lol
i fully agree, the wolf totem would blow his head off let alone his mind.
You might not know what it’s about but you’ll want to burn a village down after you hear it
HorseheadFiddle. Moren Kherr

If I’m not mistaken this song is a lamentation about how far people have strayed from values but still hopeful for the future.
Wolf Totem got me hooked in the first 10 seconds. As soon as the video ended, I watched another one, then immediately looked to see if they were touring the US. They are fabulous live. You won't be disappointed !!
The two string instrument is a Morin Khuur. Yuve, yuve, yu means how strange, how strange. This music is primal, you can't not feel the rhythm.
Interesting fact. The 2 big string instruments (don't remember the name) are traditionally played seated. They said it took them months to be able to play standing up

Easily one of my favorite bands!
Fun fact about The Hu; They make all their instruments themselves, how badass is that?
There’s a version of the video out there with the English translation and the lyrics are deep.
All about summoning the power of the ancestors in their blood.
Saw these guys Live in Denver, they dont speak much English, but they were so awesome, they got a standing O.

The Hu are awesome. I'm totally hooked on their music. Black thunder 1and 2 are brilliant songs by them

Mongolian throat singing in a new way is my guess. Sound really really cool!
Wow! That last note was Mongolian Throat singing. Fantastic vid. Thx ✌🏻

Saw these guys live a couple of years ago at a small venue for $20. Grabbed a bite to eat at the Greek place across the street before the show and a couple of them were there. They are cool and very talented
Gobi desert. You can’t stop… they are amazing
@8:16 leave it to the Mongols to be capable of pulling a Horse Neighing sound out of an 'Asian Cello.'
I'm only familiar with one other by them - Wolf Totem - but it's a banger!
Ningen Isu Heartless Scat. Japanese metalheads. It's unique and unexpected.
It's a unique looking guitar because it's not a guitar. Perhaps to put this in perspective you should watch some Huun Huur Tu. You should take a deep dive with Tuvan folk music. The main vocal techniques here are (I think) Sygyt and Kargyraa. The two instruments featured are Igil (the bowed instrument) and Doshpuluur (the three stringed instrument.
welcome to the world of folk metal
We have everything from Mongolian throat singing to African traditional music you can headbang too
here is a list of bands I'd recommend
Wagakki band - Japan
Alien weaponry- New Zealand (Maori metal)
Bloodywood- India
Arkona- Russia
Hassak- THey are a Kazakh ethno ensemble bu their song "Amanat" would not be out of place at a metal concert
Percival - Poland/pan slavic (more leaning on the folk but defnetly have metal influences)
Tyr- Faroe Islands
Manntra- Croatia (I'd suggest songs like Vila, Lipa or Ori Ori)
MiracleOfSound - Ireland (Look up his songs "Tale of Cu Chullain " or "Grainn Mahoil" )
Al namrood- Saudi arabia
Cemican- Mexico
Dubioza Kolektiv- .... OK They don't really count as folk metal ... they don't count as any genre really because they jsut blend everything from metal, to Regge to rap ...and they are from Bosnia nad Hertzegovina
would suggest songs like "No Escape", "space song", "Himna generacije", "USA"
Arka'n Asrafokor- Togo
Thx, lots for me to ck out. Much appreciated ✌🏻
@@valoriel4464 any time XD
What's pretty cool, is that the band was approached to write and perform a song for Jedi Fallen Order, which is played at the beginning, if I remember correctly
THE HU❤🇲🇳👍
It's called "Morin khuur" and its maybe some horse violin in english idk. Mongolian traditional instrument.
Nice. The HU
This gives us a glimpse of how bad ass the Mongolian people are. Ever heard of Genghis Khan? 🤣👍
