On a more serious note: The Hu are Mongolia’s biggest cultural export. They were founded in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, by four classically trained musicians. They combine traditional Mongolian chanting, throat singing and instruments with modern electric bass and guitar, to create something that is both metal and oddly hypnotizing. Their first videos posted on youtube in 2018 went globally viral, and today their videos collectively have almost 100x as many views as the entire population of Mongolia. They have done several international tours in both Europe and North America. Much of their music is about Mongolian history, traditions and culture. They sing about respecting their ancestors while also being modern. “Yuve Yuve Yu” is about people who mindlessly boast about their glorious past without doing anything to achieve greatness today. Personnel: Galbadrakh "Gala" Tsendbaatar - morin khuur (traditional horsehead fiddle); throat singing Nyamjantsan "Jaya" Galsanjamts - tumur hhuur (flute) tsuur (jew’s harp); throat singing Enkhsaikhan "Enkush" Batjargal - morin khuur; throat singing Temuulen "Temka" Naranbaatar - tovshuur (Mongolian lute); backing vocals They are joined by four additional musicians for live tours. Here are some of their most popular videos: “Wolf Totem” (you just watched this) “Yuve Yuve Yu” (How strange, how strange) ruclips.net/video/v4xZUr0BEfE/видео.html “The Great Chinggis Khaan” ruclips.net/video/pD1gDSao1eA/видео.html “Shoog Shoog” ruclips.net/video/dwr4SPK1_TY/видео.html They were commissioned to write a theme song for the Star Wars Video Game franchise, and even wrote an alien language for it: “Sugaan Essena” ruclips.net/video/oJZfEh3EciU/видео.html They have also done some epic covers of Metallica. Here are two: “Through the Never” ruclips.net/video/PvKyRd817ko/видео.html “Sad But True” ruclips.net/video/QpxA_ZxGX_M/видео.html And finally, a collaboration with the great Lzzy Hale of Halestorm: “Song of Women” ruclips.net/video/mdN1U9NvuIc/видео.html Clip from one of their recent tours, when I saw them live: ruclips.net/video/3TAZlKZ9Yp8/видео.html
I know Sunday is Band Maid's day, but this Sunday is Mother's Day so I would recommend "Song of Women" by the HU feat Lizzy Hale. If this song got your ancestors blood pumping, then this song will definitely lift your feminine soul to new Heights. I play this every year for my mother, God rest her soul.
@@mogaman28 And that is your prerogative. But The HU Band's collaborations with Western artists have drawn more and more people into the sphere of folk metal and that is always a good thing. It's no time to get too parochial in your thinking. These collaborations do nothing to injure or demean The HU Band and the Mongolian people in any way, shape or form. More people interested in music, no matter the genre, is always a good thing.
I like the touch at the beginning of the video one man is on a horse like their ancestors rode and is followed by the modern equivalent 'steel horses". The lyrics are basically if you come at us, we will fuck shit up.
The Hu are such an interesting group. First, the throat singing is amazing. Secondly, the Mongolians are a horse culture (real or mechanical). A lot of their sounds emanate from living on the plains of Mongolia with horses as the primary mode of travel. They definitely use those elements in their music. It's pretty damned powerful! Princess NittPicc, thank you for reacting to this songs. It's very enlightening about the culture from another part of the world. Music truly is the universal language!
The Hu music was one of the reasons I kept my sanity during the pandemic. I just danced to it around the house like a madwoman. BEST stress relief ever. 😊
Back in 2019 I bought Babymetal tickets, and they had the Hu opening; I don't know who I was more excited to see, Babymetal, or Th Hu. It was a great show, the masculine energy of the Hu and feminine energy of the girls was a great pairing. There is throat singing at the beginning of the video too, the high pitched whistling sounds as the logo is displayed is overtones from throat singing. The high pitched bird like calls are from the fiddles. There's another song where they make the fiddles whinny like a horse. They can do a lot with their instruments.
I knew you'd like the last "hu hu hu..." part. I also love it. It's so refreshing to hear a different riff at the end. It's like they saved it for the last. Like they tricked you to believe that it's just simple and repetitive only to floor you in the end. And yes, there's an electric guitar in that part. Though those 4 people are the main members and the face of the band, they are actually accompanied by other musicians as well. So they have drummers, another guitarist, and a bassist.
I was thrilled to see that you had checked The Hu out. I figured you would love them, and you didn't disappoint. These guys are absolutely fantastic live. They do have an electric guitar and bass they use in studio and live. Much of these gentlemen are classically trained in Mongolian music. Some of the members, such as the unseen bass guitarist, are classically trained in western music. (The bassist is principal bassoonist in the national Mongolian orchestra). As people, they are a warm-hearted group of guys. As for other videos, I like "Black Thunder" (the one with 2 parts). It's epic. Then for a different side to them, "Shireg Shireg" the acoustic session, and "The Song of Women" with Lzzy Hale of Halestorm. I have seen them live, and when there were 8 guys all throat-singing during "Black Thunder" it was thrilling. You mentioned wanting world music, check out Bloodywood from India. Either "Gaddaar" or "Aaj". We'll save "Dana Dan" for later. Another recommendation is Varijashree Venugopal. She has just put out an album on Snarky Puppy's record label GroundUP Music. Check either the beautiful "Harivaa Jhari" or for more fire "Chasing the Horizon" featuring Hamilton de Holanda and Victor Wooten.
Song of Women ft. Lzzy Hale 100% guaranteed you'll love it. It's a song every woman deserves to hear, and every man needs to. Also, I believe all of the core band members are professors of music at the top conservatory in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, along with their best students.
Counter-proposing "Song of Women" (WITHOUT Lizzy Hale). That song hits differently from the later Lizzy Hale collaboration. Maybe do a comparison video between the two versions?
So excited to see you are so excited! Totally understand how you got carried away! It's deceptively simple, but so primitive and attractive. Nothing they do is bad. This is what they play, all the time. It's such a great fusion of East and West. They are SO amazing live. Have seen them live and you should go. If they're near you! Check out "Yuve Yuve Yu" or "Song of Women" featuring Lizzy Hale;
Mexican-CHINESE you say... then there's a VERY good chance you have some Mongolian blood! The Mongols conquered & controlled China for many years back in the day, & they were notorious for "getting around...😏" 😂
I am soooooooo glad to see you react to The HU Band and your reaction was exactly as I figured it would be and I enjoyed it tremendously. Watching this video really sent me down the rabbit hole of folk metal. My first exposure to folk metal was Wagakki Band, though theirs is more melded with modern musical styles. Though watching videos of Hanfugetsu (the group that preceded WGB, with Suzuhana Yuko on piano and vocals, Ikuburo Kiyoshi on Koto and Kaminaga Daisuke on shakuhachi) are just awe-inspriring. After The HU Band, I chanced upon a Siberian folk metal group called Otyken who were excellent at the beginning but have kind of slipped into a more commercial approach that takes away from the basis of the genre. Then came Ni Ni Music, a lady from Taiwan who is extremely proficient with traditional Chinese instruments and does wonderful covers of Western songs, especially rock and metal and has other practitioners of Chinese traditional instruments collaborate with her. She has also done the most beautiful instrumental cover I've ever heard of Simon and Garfunkel's classic "Bridge Over Troubled Waters". She also builds and creates traditional instruments herself. My next find was and Indian group named Bloodywood, who really are quite exceptional and are more metal than the others. Two other artists who got my attention are Moyun, a Chinese artist who plays the Guhzeng, the progenitor of the Japanese Koto, and does quite a number of one-woman band videos that are just amazing to watch. And last, but not least is Jingxuan, another Chinese Guzheng practitioner who usually does live videos primarily in Europe. She is yet another master of her craft. I think you would enjoy any and all of them. They are quite eclectic. One more thing and I will shut up, lol. Regarding the song Wolf Totem, there is a video of a flash mob dance of over 100 dancers who perform the Biyelgee style of Mongolian folk dance in a main square in Ulan Bataar in Mongolia. I don't really know how to supply the correct RUclips classifications, but if you put "BIYELGEE FLASH MOB2019 / THE HU - WOLF TOYEM" it will come up. It is literally awe-inspiring. PS: There is also a Moroccan folk metal band but the name doesn't come to mind at the moment.
Mother Earth ft. LP is another that is really just beautiful. LP is an America singer/songwriter from NY Laura Pergalozi. She is amazing in her own right. The HU are just amazing for sure, I love their music videos, some are like mini movies. Yuve Yuve Yu is another that starts like a movie.
When the HU tour they do have a full band with a mix of traditional instruments and rock instruments (there's at least a couple full concerts on youtube that are very well recorded, like Hellfest 2023). One thing to keep in mind is that... basically all in the core band are extremely proficient players of traditional Mongolian music. The main singer also plays various kinds of flute and is a teacher in Music courses in the University in the capital, IIRC. The perfect companion to Wolf Totem would be the official video for Yuve Yuve Yu, which is how most people have found them: extremely well produced, and you get to hear the mongolian fiddle player make it "whinny" like a horse which is always fun. The official video to This is Mongol is fun too. And "Bii Biyelgee"... bonus: amazing costumes and many instruments (including flute).
Well, if I didn't already just love you to bits for your 'Hi Ren' reaction I'd be a total goner now... And I am! As a fiddler by trade and a HUman (yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the etymological root) I love these guys just so damn much!! I didn't even have a translation when I first heard this but I sure as hell knew what they were singing about! Thank you so very much!!!
Thanks again for your reaction. I see in the comments that Lemski recommended the group Heilung to you. They do their take on medieval folk, make their own instruments and costumes. Haunting and hypnotic, give “Krigsgaldr” a listen. 40 m views and counting they are doing plenty right.
Hoy, i left my first ever comment on a reactor video like 1 day ago on your Eluveitie reaction. I don't know much of your musical taste, but if you'd like to keep going about The Hu, their next "mainstream" tune is Yuve yuve yu. Pretty cool song tbh. The next you could do to move to an other very cool band would be "A Woman Song", a Hu song featuring Lzzy Hale from Halestorm, another great group you could hear 1 or 2 great songs from. (for real even on its own the woman's song is REALLY touching, brings me to tears everytime). Welp second comment i leave on a reactor video, guess you had me convinced ! Can't wait to see the next !
Great reaction If you like this song from the HU then you should check out ( SONG OF WOMAN ) with lizzy hale i think you will love it an amazing song and colab, enjoy
Sad But True, a Metallica cover by the HU. This cover demonstrates the HU can also do heavy metal! Personally, the HU cover is better than the original.
Having recently watched your reaction to "Hi Ren, " it is clear that you have great knowledge of music theory and composition. I expect this from a professional musician, but beyond this, your reactions to music videos are heartfelt and genuine. Simply put, your reactions are the best I have seen, and I have seen hundreds! As for suggestions, you might try The Hu's video Yuve, Yuve, Yu and Otyken's "Phenomenon."
The Hu are epic. If you want to react to more videos of them I would suggest Black Thunder (best music video) or Suugan Essena (same song but in a different language for Jedi Fallen Order). If you like live perfomances search for Shihi Hutu. Thats one of my favourite songs by them. They are a fantastic live band. They are all studied musicians. Just got the tickets for the next concert in september. I cant wait. Thats the third time I see them live. Since you said you like international music also search for Bloodywood. They are from India. Gaddar, Aaj and Dana Dan are my favourite songs by them. And by the way, do you know Electric Callboy? They are hilarious. We got the moves and Hypa Hypa are my suggestions.
I believe I first heard about the band from NPR, of all places. I'd say it was 6 or 7 years ago. For other songs by the Hu, I'd recommend 'The Great Chinggis Khaan', 'Yuve Yuve Yu', and 'The Song of Women'(with Lzzy Hale). Oh, and they did a cover of Metallica's 'Sad But True' in their own language. Edit: Oh, and for something not entirely dissimilar, you might try Otyken, a band whose members are from a native Siberian tribe.
Heh, if you think this wakes the blood of your ancestors, wait till you hear their other songs. My personal favourite is "The Great Chinggis Khaan", but honestly, all their songs sound really epic. Another possible song for you to look at next is "Yuve Yuve Yu", which I understand to be the next song released after "Wolf Totem".
The guys in the orange leather vests are members of the Mongolian Choppers MC, the oldest MC in Mongolia. Their tattooist also does the tattoos for The Hu, I've seen them six times and they are fabulous. VERY nice Gentlemen. This is a war chant and gets the point across, mess with us and you'll regret it. Watching your expressions was great. There are no frets on the morin khuur, it's all muscle memory. Depressing and raising the strings changes the tone.
Hi! I Loved your reaction. There's so much music out there the world can offer if you tend to listen. At this point I NEED to recommend you the Band Bloodywood with their song Aaj. They describe their music as Indian Folk Metal. And yes, the flute is part of it 😉.
Oh yes... definitely go see them live. They are great. If your a Star Wars fan check out the music they did for the Jedi: Fallen Order games . Sugaan Essena is the song your looking for. There is a youtube clip of them in a studio doing it so you get to see ALL the instruments they are using. Its quite the mashup. Great reaction as always
Loved your reaction ❤ You said you wanted some different music, the Maori metal band ALIEN WEAPONRY with the song KAI TANGATA ( Official music video) is another good one to react to. It's a must. Lol!
They only play these instruments live, but, they have an electric guitarist and bassist with them on stage, a regular drummer, and an indigenous drum kit. At least they did the two times I saw them. I believe they play other instruments as well, the man with the long hair and no instrument plays a jaw harp and a recorder like instrument in person on other songs.
It does my heart good to see you having the 100% correct reaction to this! If you don't react that way, are you even alive? I see below another poster has listed a whole bunch of other things you need to listen to. Do so. :)
The Hu? Try Yuve Yuve Yu next! OK. Am I weird? My two favorite bands in the world are a Mongolian throat singing rock band and the other a hard rock/metal band with 5 Japanese girls in Maid costumes.
That one with Papa Roach sounds really good, and it is obvious in the video that all the boys were having fun! But I'm just itching to fix those puerile English lyrics.
5:10 you probably meant doshpuluur, a tuvan instrument used in this part of asia. tuvans are close to mongolian people, they live just north of mongolia in the siberian taiga. they have a lot of loan words from mongolian but they are of turkic descent and language. and they live in russia. that's how crazy the world is. even in the most remote parts of the world.
correction: mongolians call it topshuur but it's basically the same instrument. i love the hu btw. but if you like this you gotta react to some altaian bands and tuvan bands like huun-huur tu. their throat singing has more tones at amazing variety. this one goes as khomei but ones like sygyt and kargyra are a lot different from this. some people who passed away mastered them all like kongar-ool ondar and still have their videos on youtube but i dunno how their copyright stuff works.
Your passion is great.Ive been listening to The HU for 5 years..I rarely listen to anything else...lol The have several great songs.I would suggest if you decide to follow up on this reaction... please... please listen to the original tracks(they have teamed up with other English speaking artists) But the originals are best.heres my personal favorites. Yuve Yuve Yu Mother Nature Song of Women Sell the World All of these tracks have subtitles in the official videos..
Maybe you've discovered what part of China your 'Heritage' is from?? :0) EDIT: Imagine sitting in your camp preparing for the upcoming Battle . . . and hearing THAT coming from the opposing camp!!
Hi Princess Pic. This’s Gr8, need 2 check this ‘THE HU’. Btw check this (student band)MARCHING BAND - KYOTO TACHIBANA SHS BAND ( they’re PLAYING, MARCHING & DANCING 😅). GUARANTEE you’ll love it(they did perform in US).🤟 PEACE & ❤️ 🕊️
Some More World Music Check out ELUVEITIE "The Call of the Mountains" (Official Music Video) Their a Swiss Folk Metal Band ! The lead singer plays the hurdy gurdy but not this song ! They use many different instruments ! Also OTYKEN " Legend " Official Music Video Indigenous Siberian Band playing the same instruments as the HU plus more =)
"I'm not Mongolian, I'm Mexican-Chinese....." Which means there's a good chance you have a little Mongolian ancestry in you. The Mongols conquered China in the 13th century....😉 BTW, I though Mexican-Chinese were Filipinos....😁
@NittPicc the Mexican-Chinese being Filipinos was a joke, since the Philippines was heavily culturally Hispanisized by Spain via Mexico. To the point where we have been refered to as Asian-Mexicans....😉
She's done a few Wagakki Band songs on her Patreon. They are there because they're official MV's & their record label is notorious for blocking reactions to their videos on RUclips.
Please react to Ummet Ozcan X Otyken ALTAY. I think you will find this interesting and I enjoy and appreciate listening to your feedback. All the way from Siberia.
I don't know where to get the vocals without the instruments, but they released and instrumental version of their first album, without the vocals. Still waiting to see that in karaoke!
The Hu did a show in our town. By the end of the show, our houses were burning, our livestock were gone, and our daughters were pregnant.
😂😂😂😂
Юморист))))
Yeah! sounds just like Mongols tours in 13th century

The Hu also did a large musical number for Star Wars: The Fallen Order video game, which gave the game a very epic feel IMO.
To songs so far, sung in Huttese.
Disney I'm still waiting for my The Hu cameo in any Star Wars series. They will fit nice as a mandalorian clan.
Their cover of Sad But True is my favorite mettalica cover ever! And I adore the Warning Enter Sandman.
Dude you clearly have no idea what you're talking about (jk :-D). The best cover of Sad But True is by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit.

Great reaction
If you like this song from the HU then you should check out ( SONG OF WOMAN ) with lizzy hale i think you will love it an amazing song and colab,
enjoy
Folk Metal at it's finest
Sad But True, a Metallica cover by the HU. This cover demonstrates the HU can also do heavy metal! Personally, the HU cover is better than the original.
They are just as good live, like our Sunday band.
Added! And thank you! 🙏🏼
Standing at the gates of Constantinople.
Thank you so much Mongolia 🇲🇳 😊😊😊
Now your journey is getting deeper and serious.
Storm by Otyken should be checked out, Altay as well
The guys in the orange leather vests are members of the Mongolian Choppers MC, the oldest MC in Mongolia.
You will never disappoint with yuve yuve yu and sugan essana -starwars from them
I would recommend Shoog Shoog
Loved your reaction ❤ You said you wanted some different music, the Maori metal band ALIEN WEAPONRY with the song KAI TANGATA ( Official music video) is another good one to react to. It's a must. Lol!
I saw them in concert and they had a electric bass and guitarist with them.
Amé tu reaccion, sin dudarlo the hu es mi banda favorita del genero hunnu rock, te recomiendo analizar y escuchar shireg shireg o triangle
Nitpick, I actually got to see these guys live. They came to Chicago maybe about 5 years ago. They are bad a**
Wow like your reaction. And really distinguishing the instruments.
the hu band amazing
There is a very similar guitar in India and Pakistan called Serinda.
A newer version of the Mongol hoards!!!
It does my heart good to see you having the 100% correct reaction to this! If you don't react that way, are you even alive? I see below another poster has listed a whole bunch of other things you need to listen to. Do so. :)
❤️ this reaction 😁
The Hu?
Try Yuve Yuve Yu next!
OK. Am I weird? My two favorite bands in the world are a Mongolian throat singing rock band and the other a hard rock/metal band with 5 Japanese girls in Maid costumes.
You might like one of their songs where Jaya performs flute solo. I will remember the name and let you know
Oh its Shireg Shireg
You should react to “Yuve Yuve Yu” by The Hu next
If you like that kind of music, you should try out Heilung. Anything from them. ;)
I came to say the same thing! Heilung awakens the spirits of ancestors and a connection to our primal roots!
Any guitar can be electric if you use metal strings.🤷♂
BTW, The Hu did a collab with Lizzy Hale of Halestorm. Look for, Song Of Woman.
If you love The HU, please react to HEILUNG for throat singing & a primal connection to history. I highly recommend “In Maidjan” or “Anoana”.
I did “Anoana on Patreon, but I need one for RUclips so “In Maidjan” will be next on here!
There's another version of this with Papa Roach that absolutely slaps, used in a soundtrack. ruclips.net/video/sv29DzgiXZA/видео.html
For your next shot of world music check out Heilung "Anoana" live or OMV (after you do more of The warning).
Heilung "Anoana" - Yes! OMV first please, before the live. The OMV is heart-stopping (in a very good way).
@@swarm_ascending4439 OMV is stunning!
They do a cover a Sad but True will not disappoint later❤️😎🇺🇸
Wonderful reaction. I had so much fun.
So, now I want to buy the WWE video game, just to make a character, and put this as his entrance music, cause dang.
Your passion is great.Ive been listening to The HU for 5 years..I rarely listen to anything else...lol
The have several great songs.I would suggest if you decide to follow up on this reaction... please... please listen to the original tracks(they have teamed up with other English speaking artists) But the originals are best.heres my personal favorites.
Yuve Yuve Yu
Mother Nature
Song of Women
Sell the World
All of these tracks have subtitles in the official videos..
They are a 8 piece band.
Mongolian drums
Standard 4 string bass
". " 6 string electric guitar and western style drums
Great reaction... I can recommend a novel She who became the Sun - Shelly Parker-Chan . This music perfectly matches their vibe.
Love your reaction!!!! listen to Sugan Essana by the hu. It's a song for Star Wars Fallon order video game.
love the unusannus shirt :D memento mori
YES! Someone knows! 😆
@@NittPicc yay xD but yeah I tried to watch every video when I could
Maybe you've discovered what part of China your 'Heritage' is from?? :0) EDIT: Imagine sitting in your camp preparing for the upcoming Battle . . . and hearing THAT coming from the opposing camp!!
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!
You need to check out Heilung | LIFA - Krigsgaldr LIVE!!!!!!

Mexican people are very kind 😁😁😁
You should checkout nini music & bloodywood as well, see what you think.
Le recomiendo escuchar otyken.
👍👍👍
Some More World Music Check out ELUVEITIE "The Call of the Mountains" (Official Music Video) Their a Swiss Folk Metal Band ! The lead singer plays the hurdy gurdy but not this song ! They use many different instruments ! Also OTYKEN " Legend " Official Music Video Indigenous Siberian Band playing the same instruments as the HU plus more =)
Hu rides at dawn?
Hu goes there?!
I heard Hu's on first?
The Hu "Live At Leeds" tonight !
I don't know too many metalheads that get up before the crack of noon. I hope you are doing great Gary!
"I'm not Mongolian, I'm Mexican-Chinese....."
Which means there's a good chance you have a little Mongolian ancestry in you. The Mongols conquered China in the 13th century....😉
BTW, I though Mexican-Chinese were Filipinos....😁
I guess they are? But my mom told me that we are from Mexico with a great grandfather who came from china. Lol. I have no clue. Lol. 🤷🏻♀️
@NittPicc the Mexican-Chinese being Filipinos was a joke, since the Philippines was heavily culturally Hispanisized by Spain via Mexico. To the point where we have been refered to as Asian-Mexicans....😉
Please react to Masquerade by Freeze The Fall, teenagers from Kelowna BC
The hu sugaan sessna song😅😅😅
I am interested in your feelings about Waggaki Band. They make me feel. You?
I think she did a reaction to Wagakki band already.
She's done a few Wagakki Band songs on her Patreon. They are there because they're official MV's & their record label is notorious for blocking reactions to their videos on RUclips.
I only pay to see the actual artist. Source: My record label sold shit behind my back.
Olla✋😚
Please react to Ummet Ozcan X Otyken ALTAY. I think you will find this interesting and I enjoy and appreciate listening to your feedback. All the way from Siberia.
react to TROOPER by THE THU
The Hu, not the Who :p .
it would even sound good without the music, just voices
I don't know where to get the vocals without the instruments, but they released and instrumental version of their first album, without the vocals. Still waiting to see that in karaoke!
❤
Mexican people are very kind 😁😁😁
