Goibui i’ve had this kind of plant since i was born (yes, one plant) and I’ve actually seen baby plants in the soil growing next to the adult rhaphidophora tetrasperma.

I've got a 3m tall rhaphidophora that I've taken 20 cuttings from and it's also shooting out about 20 new growth points. I rescued it from a bad plant parent . Also I've found sphagnum aerial layering (plastic wrap) works great! IN a cold climate and it's just in dappled natural light. Love your videos :D
I’ve found that mixing perlite with sphagnum moss helps once I’m ready to remove it all to pot up my rooted propagations. Falls off the roots so much easier than just sphagnum moss.

Great video. When I was head propagator at my last job, we used vermiculite or perilite. Those items don't stick to the roots when you go to transplant to soil.
A heating pad under the flats is important for winter propagation. A warm mix will help the cuttings root quicker.

I just got a long vine of this plant and I’m so excited to chop it up and propagate it. I only have water so I’m hoping at least 10/22 of my cuttings root. I always put a little hydro fertilizer and I’ve learned that fivet the cuttings more success!!

I always use just water and it works really well!! Will try spagnum moss next time. I also noticed indeed that keeping multiple nodes make it easier for the plant to sprout new growth. The will all generate roots, but with multiple nodes I actually had new grouth also , while cuttings are still submerged in water

I'm glad to see this. I tried propping mine in soil and I had more than 20 cuttings and every single one died except 2. The 2 that were doing ok for months starting turning on me so I pulled them out and they were rotting too. So it's time to try the sphagnum moss now. And I am really hoping g it works this time. My huge plant mini mint monstera was so kindly poisoned out of spite and I've been trying so hard to save it.

I do like to see how much success you have enjoyed with the sphagnum moss method. I’ve seen other videos shouting the praises of water. I can’t help wondering what the average temperature was when you took the cuttings.
I will try the sphagnum moss method in the spring/early summer, the UK is VERY cool in the Winter months.

This was so helpful. Normally I'm not to scared about propagation but my raphidiphora has just one long stem. I know the nodes on the motherplant generate new growthpoints but I was still worried. But now I will wait a bit longer and then get more 😀

I’ve tried propagating these in water and had no luck... they sat in water for 2 months during the summer... panicked lol then stuck them in soil and within a week roots were coming in. Awesome experiment!

@@TechplantChannel Where I live there is no import of sphagnum so after I saw that nothing is happening in water I did with cuttings like old ladies show me for propagating monstera deliciosa ... One node cutting fixed on top of the soil mix (that is mix of peat and perlite) in little pot... I used plastic beer cup so I can see when it's dry... Got some in plastic box some in zip lock bag and all got roots after 2 weeks... But rarly watered all substrate, just when I see it's dry all way down to the bottom and I just sprayed from the top because that is where roots are growing -first up in air funny and then they fallow more moist and that is down in soil... It was fun to watch... They were under grow lights because it was February and after 2 months got a lot of new leaves... But I will not report them yet all together with original plant because I want to wait till the roots are all around those little pots to be sure they are strong enough... 😁
@@TechplantChannel btw one of my cuttings was longer like yours and roots started just on the node that was on the surface of the soil, and that is how rooted... But I still don't know is there roots on node under because I still wait for report, but it's growing good and I guess no root rot so all is ok 😁
Completely agree that water propagation is not a way to go with these... I put several stems in water and they all get brown and rot. My soil props dont seem to be doing too well, a few died and the couple left are going so slowly and at this point I dont even know if any roots have formed as I'm afraid of disturbing them.
It is actually why I looked up a video on best way to propagate these and came across yours. Thank you for such a helpful video I will be trying spag moss and hopefully it works as well for me as it did for you 🧡

I’ve had decent luck propping them in water (probably 10 with maybe 1 casualty) soil was a no go for me too
The multiple growth points is probably because you have the mother vine horizontal rather than vertical (like climbing rose bushes)

My mini monstera that I just bought had issues with the tips where the leaves and new growth were constantly dying and blackening. I decided to cut the entire section with the node off. The entire plant isint long, maybe 5 nodes althogether, but I’m hoping a new growth point would start somewhere. :)

I chopped my tetrasperma up a week ago. it had very large aerial roots so I used those as a guide for were I chopped. I Buried the aerial roots and left the vines on the surface. I don't water them directly I spray heavily twice a day. They're in a terrarium I have from when I had giant day geckos which is were the mother plant was originally. I have 7-10 large some over a foot long cuttings. Hopefully it goes well.

I'm wondering how your raphidafora Tetraspermas have done since you made this video. I am currently propagating mine bc I gave it root rot. I'm doing some cuttings in sphag as you suggest, and some in coco bark as Summer Rayne's video suggests. I have them both covered with plastic bags for humidity. I would appreciate your input 💚 I find your videos really helpful.

Great video! I got two cuttings in the mail with roots. I planted them in well draining mix for aroids, one is starting to grow but the other one lost one leaf. I had used a different pot for that one, I think it was not allowing air to pass through because the first one I put in a plastic orchid pot with a lot of holes, and that one is doing fine. When I took a look at the roots on the second one, it was basically sitting in mud, even though the top would dry out, and starting to rot. Cleaned it off with hydrogen peroxide and put it in just water. Lost the last leaf. The stem, root and node are fine but no leaf. Should I keep it in water or try moss, and will it still grow with no leaf?? Thanks ahead of time!!

How did these transition to soil? I've struggled with my RTs experiencing repotting shock, even when just amending the soil, or bumping up a pot size.
Hi, great video about propagation. I saw your unboxing this one back in April 2019, and I guess the black leaves are the old one from back then? I just got my Raphidiphora Tetrasperma from the local plant shop, it got damage, black edges, and yellowing, from the traveling, and stayed at my friend's place for about a week. I got it home a week ago, and set it under a sky light, on the third floor. I saw its new black edges on a younger leave, so I freak out a bit, and inspected the soil. There are small particle, fine salt looking, mixed on the top soil, with tiny bug crawling. Hopefully, not thrips, but I pushed the soil, spray it down with Safer's End all, and separated it from my plants "quarantine" zone. Anyhow, I saw your's continue to grow despite the dying leaves, I guess I'll just keep an eye on it for a bit, then repot it, then move it in my collection.
just do your best not to over water and it will perk up nicely

Do you wait a few days for the fresh wound to heal/callus before adding to water, soil, sphagnum moss, etc. ?? or do you add right away as soon as you make the cuttings?

Hi! Thanks for this video. I really like that you always show a few ways to propagate and you show your results within the same video. So we don’t need to wait for a new video. I have a new one of these, I just bought yesterday. She doesn’t have a lot of leaves. I have a short stem with 2 nodes, no leaves. Do you think if I air layer that stem, I could get leaves to grow, or stimulate new growth from there? I don’t really want to propagate this into another plant as of yet. I just want it to be bushier. Appreciate any feedback. Thank you.
so this is an older video, but you can totally propagate a plain node with no leaf. to be extra secure you could air layer for some roots then chop it!

I hate soil so much it just attracts pests i had a huge fungus gnat problem they would not stop i had to pot all my plants including my succulents in sphagnum moss and they completely love it and it’s made my life so much easier i water my plants with fish tank water to make sure they have a nutritional supply

It can grow in both you just will need to watch root mass and make sure it doesn't exceed the surface area where oxygen is exchanged back into the water. There comes a point when the roots will demand more oxygen than the water can get exchanged from the surface. Also you gotta fertilize

I have a plant prop (3 leaves) with a SUPER long aerial root (like, 6 inches) + a medium long one, around 3 inches, with a little node (1 cm). I tried putting it in soil, but the medium root dried in the middle and is rotting. I never let the roots dry out before putting in soil. i'm not sure whether to keep it in soil or try something else. The long root, upon inspection, is developing some black soft spots at the very tip of the root. I got paranoid and put it into water now. do I need to get moss or perlite for it? or leave it in water? do I have to cut the root that's drying out?
Im water propagating mine. Is it ok to have the areal roots submerged in water?? Id hate to lose this vine.

For fear of potential root rot, can you clarify on how much water we need for the spaghnum moss? I know you commented below but it's still not clear. Not sure if you threw out any water off camera after dunking in the spaghnum moss.
Should there be sitting water so that the spaghnum moss are, in a sense, floating around? or
Should the spaghnum moss be soaked/drenched but there should be little to no excess water? or
Should we squeeze the spaghnum moss to get rid of as much excess water possible?
i would not have any water sitting in there. Add water till its wet and pour any extra water out. then let it start to dry a bit where its only damp, then re water it. Just try not to let it get bone dry. i let it get pretty dang dry once or twice and it survived. I hope this helps a bit

lolll your advice on "patience before propagation" was good but conflicting! It kept growing during the summer, new leaf every week but now an extra 5.5ft later from this summer (7ft tall total).. it's about to reach my ceilingggg but now it's the fall. Hope propagating around this time won't be an issue.
Hey do you mind sharing more about the deficiency you've experienced? Like did it cause varigation that turns white as the leaf matures? Or yellowing and burns? Mine has yellow spots that turn white over time. I'm trying to propagate it in soil atm... Its a single node in a chunky mix with Coco coir vs moss. (Coco coir allow more air flow for roots. I think could be wrong.) Also I'm giving it bottom heat. It's only been a few days fingers crossed!😁 If it doesn't work I'm going to try your method. Hope all is well and healthy on your end! 😷
I never figured it out. Even later after filming, my plant shed like 5 leaves and now its totally fine. So i dont know if i over watered, or if the rootball can only support so many leaves. I have no real idea yet. Still experimenting

Hi - have you tried growing the Amaryllis bulbs? Out here in the tropics, it is highly recommended that bulb dormancy should be in the crisper of a fridge. But I feel it does not have to be. Have you ever tried it storing bulbs in warmer temperatures like the middle of summer?

Hi there. In Canada does this plant go kinda dormant? I bought a big one with 6 vines in 1 gal grower pot has tones of those green node nubs will those be new vines? It's covered in aerial roots
sometimes mine just stop growing and i think its cuz ive over watered them, so i chop it into pieces and start over with propagations lol
What if you potted the cuttings that were propagated in sphagnum with chunks of the sphagnum around the roots instead of trying to separate them from the sphagnum and taking the risk of accidentally snapping off the main root source?
people have done it successfully, my fear is the moss will hold lots of water and mixed with soil it could create some rotting. however others have had success putting it right in the pot moss and all so its kinda up to you

I had a multinode cutting with some aerial roots already growing out. I put it in soil and it took a long time but roots started growing and two growth points popped out. Its third leaf is unfurling as we speak. It takes a while though. They’re very slow growing plants in comparison to a pothos or something like that.
Yeah they take forever to get going but once they get going they seem to really grow fast
This is useful, thanks. I have a bushy plant with three vines, bought with a moss pole, about 80 cm tall. The tops of the vines were cut off already when I bought it. They’re about 1.5-2 cm thick. Is there a way to stimulate them to grow again from the tips?

Hello, I put a 3 leaf R.Testra cutting in moist sphagnum moss. It’s been about 3 weeks and all the leaves turned yellow. What should I do? I haven’t looked at the node or in the pot. I’m afraid to. What do you suggest? Thank you!
the leaves can die but the node will root and push out growth, sometimes the new growth will even push off the leaf if that makes sense
