  • This was the typical breakfast for a U.S. Soldier during WW2 - check out this amazing look at what parts held up, and what bit the dust! Saved for a photo shoot with London Financial Times here:
    www.ft.com/content/fe9e50ae-e...
Contents and box were saved for a photo shoot/interview with London Financial Times last February, then they were donated to a Veteran/Paramedic.
If someone wants to see me eat old food, check out my other videos.
    Respect.

@@jr2904 No, US army -- infantry on that enlistment. But I grew up eating C-rats, too. My father was a WW II vet that stayed in until he hit max retirement age. He'd bring a case of them home every now and then. Back then, they had little packs of cigarettes in the "Accessory Pack" -- 4 cigs., matches, a wad of toilet paper, plastic knife, fork and spoon and a pack of chicklets chewing gum. Oh, and a pack of salt and pepper. The P-38 can openers were supplied as 4 to a 12-meal C-Rat. case.

In the late 1970s I was a boy scout. I used to search through the army Navy stores looking for old ration packs, I remember eating one of these very same ones. The ham and eggs were green and tasted like metal, everything else was okay. No worse than the backpacking dehydrated food we carried with us on our long hikes.

I’m ex-military from 81-92 and a combat veteran. Had C-Rat’s in basic training, and then the original MRE’s after. Loved the C-Rat’s and also a lot of things about the original MRE’s. This video reminded me of the oatmeal cereal bars we had in the original MRE’s. Looked the same size as this one. I had completed forgotten about it over the years until this reminded me. It was kinda dry but not bad. I still would have tried the bar and crackers as good as they looked. The smell was probably more on the outside of the wrapper from everything else.

When I was in the army in 83 once they handed out what I believe we're k rations for us to eat. Best I can recall there were dates like in the 30's and 40's. We only consumed the main courses that were in cans still in perfect condition. So at the time these cans were like 40 - 50 years old. Each can actually had a date stamped on it! No one got sick from them and they didn't taste too bad considering how old they were. Back then quality control actually meant something. Today it actually means engineered to fail 2 months after the warranty expires. lol

Dennis Wilhoite yeah and when they were talking about how World War II was much better than the beans and rice of world war one that they were putting science into the food and having these people review it you know these scientist that are exerting next to no energy "oh boy that's one good biscuit"
but there was a lot of effort behind that war pretty much the entirety of the American might was put into that war and that is why I as I guess what would be a millennial at age 28 can call those of World War II the greatest generation is because they were be a higher level of patriotism back then you know people that actually give a crap about their country and as you can see by the channel photo my favorite plane is the F4U Corsair known to the Japanese as whistling death into the Allies it's a sweetheart of Okinawa superior to the P51 until it got its Rolls-Royce engine upgrade even though the course there was more difficult to land it was able to feel quite a lot of rolls with its free flight Rockets and large capacity to carry other bombs and things like that and it even had its own droppable fuel tank though it's 2000 horsepower Whitt end pratney spinning that huge prop it probably wasn't very fuel efficient but the Airman in the Korean War preferred it over the first jets that were available as the first Jets only did 30 miles an hour faster but had poor maneuverability in comparison I would love to own an F4U Corsair even if a replicated one out of carbon fiber or whatever material would be easier and better Suited to make the plane even better and more manageable well still resembling the Beautiful fighter that it was
