- This specific WW2 C Ration Dinner B unit was produced for the month of March 1943. It's not just your average well-stored Dinner unit with biscuits, candy, lemonade, and sugar. It has one extra morale-boosting component that makes it the first generation of it's kind. The first C Ration cigarette.

NICE HISS™
I'LL BE COMING BACK AT YOU WITH SOMETHING NEW OR OLD, ALRIGHT COOL SEE YA™ - Развлечения
Hundreds of years into the future, Steve’s great great grandson will be opening a bag of Doritos from 2019 and describe the strange taste to people on Mars.
Lol true
Unfortunately humanity won't live long enough for that to happen....
Doritos..... rancid..... and metallic. The included Frito-Lay bean dip: "DECADENT!"
😂😂😂
And mountain dew?
I pet my cat:
No hiss. Nice.
Lol
😂😂😂
Hahaha thats brilliant :D ... I even read it in Steves voice :D

Maybe you're supposed to crush and smoke biscuits while using cigarettes for water flavoring

*Casually lights up a 1943 cigarette indoors, then moves on to describe the experience of smoking it. There is something hypnotic about all this and I don't even smoke.
I can’t pinpoint what it is but I’m so hooked.

Honestly thought he succumbed to the 90yr + MREs.

you're one of a kind Steve. Never change

The things he eats cost more than the most expensive dinner in a luxury restaurant. Literally.
But that is missing the point tho
Paid by US tax payers and by Pentagon.

@@cowboykelly6590 lmao. I just saw that video before this one. He said 650 and im thinking $6.50 but he says $650 right away.
When Steve finds cigarettes his voices raises a few octaves.
Excited for that nicotine.
Hey everybody, it's great to finally be back with a couple new videos. Had a little injury back in January that cost about a month's work. But all is good like new & I've been back to filming/editing and catching up with messages these last few weeks.
Right now I'm in the middle of filming an incredibly well stored and fascinating ration from 1906. Condition-wise, it is astoundingly preserved. That is enough of a spoiler there. But stay tuned, I finish up filming it later tonight and then to editing.
In the meantime I hope you all enjoy tonight's 2 new videos and in a day or two I have one more video coming out that is already edited. A Canadian Army WW2 Ration.

I'm so impressed with how well preserved it all is. 76 year old food and cigs, and if you'd told me it came off the assembly line this year I'd probably believe you
I was having lunch last week at work with some colleagues... sitting around the table conversing about everything and nothing. I got my lunch out and said aloud, "Let's get this out onto the tray... Nice". Silence. Then one of the guys points at me and says, "SteveMRE, right?" A golden moment. Anyway... that phrase needs to go on a t shirt. I'd buy it.

It's crazy to think that this ration has survived longer than some WW2 veterans, and it ends its journey catalogued on something that would boggle the mind of someone from 1942.

This all takes place in an alternative timeline after Steve had collected thousands of MRE in a post apocalyptic future. He records himself in his bunker after the nuclear war. We have these videos after someone traveled to his universe to collect the footage and bring it back.

That's cannon now
Reminds me of Drue Langlois' "Staying positive in the Apocalypse".

I enjoy how Steve seemingly got embarrassed by the volume of his freakout and balanced the audio accordingly.
I enjoy how you notice this. i just didn't want to bother folks by being too loud. But cutting the excitement would have cut the heart right out of the discovery. So I kept it - but lowered the volume of that clip by about 50-60%.

Next morning, poops out HISTORY. 👍
The 1942 Chelsea packs were still in the white cardboard with metallic gold for the striping and the word "Cigarettes". That's because it was the same packages used for two and three smoke free promo packs handed out prewar. From early 1943 they used brown paper and red ink in place of the gold. That was supposedly to conserve the metals in the ink. I think it's more likely it decreased reflectivity when a soldier pulled it out of his pocket for a smoke. Cigarette companies did all kinds of stunts to supposedly help the war effort. Lucky Strike is probably the most famous in this regard when they started printing their packs in the familiar red and white compared to the green and white prewar pack. They touted the change with the slogan "Lucky Strike Green Has Gone to War!". We now know that the switch was because red ink was cheaper than green, and American Tobacco knew they could sell as many as they could make regardless of color.
The Chelsea smells and taste different because it's basically pipe tobacco. Reed & Co., makers of Edgeworth, was the largest maker of pipe tobacco in the country, and I believe it still is. They used up their supply of pipe tobacco seconds to make the the early three packs for C rats. Guys complained they tasted "weird" and weren't' strong enough so Edgeworth started blending the pipe tobacco with about 20% Virginia varieties. That increased as the war went along because cigarette tobacco needed less aging and care than pipe tobacco. By the end of the war, soldiers were complaining Chelsea were too strong. With that kind of brand recognition, Chelsea didn't last long after the war. As far as I can tell, the blend was still used for private label cigarettes for tobacco store chains up to about 1950 but the Chelsea brand name was gone by 1947. Interestingly, RJ Reynolds, the company that eventually bought out Reed, briefly tried reviving the Chelsea brand name in 1989 as the "Cigarette that smell good". They used a pipe tobacco blend along with a paper that smelled like vanilla as it burned. It did well in trials for taste and a less unpleasant smell while burning but public health officials didn't like the idea of anything that made cigarettes less unpleasant, so the idea was quickly shelved.
Sar Jim thanks for sharing
0:14 The sudden zoom in on the guys face cracks me up.
I didn't even notice 😂 now I can't get over it
When I heard the music distort and zoom in on the guys face, it made me think he just smelled the worse fart in the world.

That is one of the iconic pictures of a "grizzled GI Infantryman" . Food is probably crappy but he doesn't care.
What I find most interesting about these videos is discovering just how long some companies have existed. Domino Sugar, for example. I buy Domino Sugar every month at the grocery store.
Imagine living on a farm in the middle of nowhere and enlisting in the army, and that being the first time you see plastic
This is existential crisis material right here
Imagine enlisting in the Army, and that being the first time you used indoor plumbing or toilet paper. America was crazy rual back then.
"I'm just gonna stand here and enjoy this" Man, I wish I could be that positive about life.

I had 2 uncles in WW2 and neither smoked (A huge sin in my family) and they used to trade their cigarettes for other GIs chocolate. One of them amassed a huge supply of chocolate and cigarettes from his rations and one day they walked into a German town that was an open city with no battle damage and he found a camera store. He traded his stash for a used German 6x6 twin lens reflex which when I was growing up he always had with him.
