    I'm a Medical Lab Scientist INTJ. Alarms are important to me when I do testing, especially if I happen to be handling three departments at once. It makes me alert to the tests I am doing, but at the same time, I have the urge to turn the alarms off because they are annoying. I also tend to turn my clock alarm off before I wake up because I do not want to hear any noise early in the morning. When I still lived in the rural area, whenever I get called for blood draws, I have my ringtone set to something like an owl's hoot, or set my phone to vibrate mode. I have a love and hate relationship with alarms.

I can set it to go off when I reach a specific location. Truly a life saver! I'm an INTJ and I already knew why you had a million different alarms. Because I do the same thing. Each time I need an alarm if I don't have one for that time, I make it and add it to the list. Then in the future, I don't have to waste time setting them. I just scroll to 6:30 and there it is. A quick scroll and a single button toggle and tadaa!! No wasted effort!
    My favourite line "Set it and forget it"

  • @BehindThe5
    @BehindThe5 4 года назад

    I would be absolutely lost without alarms! Last year I finally came to terms that I need the structure of setting alarms at certain points of my day to switch tasks, otherwise I will get so wrapped up into something that I could go down the Ni rabbit hole and dig so deep that I can't get out of it... until I realize "oh crap I forgot to eat dinner" or "oh whoops it's actually 3am I should probably go to bed now." The Ni just keeps going xD I've found that using the pomodoro timer method has helped me a lot with staying on track. If you aren't familiar, you set aside blocks of generally 25-30 minutes to do work without ANY distractions (just focus on the ONE task you are trying to accomplish - don't check your phone, or anything else during that block of time), then after that work block is over, you get a 5 minute break. Afterward, you repeat another 25-30 minute work block. This cycle continues for a total of 4 times, and then you get a longer 15 minute break. Of course, you can change the work and break time intervals to customize your needs, but planning not just the work blocks but also the BREAKS by using alarms/pomodoro timer apps has completely transformed the way I do things. I just need to remember to stop snoozing the alarm, or continuing to work after the timer goes off... you really called me out on that one xD

    (INFP) I used to constantly forget to do things. I realized they were things I wanted to avoid (dealing with people and their imagined judgments and opinions). This could have been from canceling an appointment with a Dr's office to telling a friend I didn't want to extrovert that day.
    How did you manage overcoming this? GLAD YOU ASKED!! : D
    I MADE it a point to do these things as soon as I though about them. I learned that prolonging the imagined hell and backlash was only making it worse. In turn, by doing everything when it comes to mind, I've realized that I am not as forgetful as I once thought... There is nothing productive when it comes to procrastination.
    Agreed that it's not exactly what Ms LiJo was talking about but kinda from my position in the 16 types.

As I try to learn on the internet, it seems very common for people making these videos to be unable to articulate what the actual differences between types and functions are.

    Are there people who *don't* set prep time alarms??? D: No wonder they're late. (I guess it makes sense now why I had to be the prep time alarm for my third shift friend when we would plan on going out, lol... I couldn't count on him being awake for it if I didn't call him an hour ahead of time....) Fortunately for me I usually had to turn a different direction out of the work parking lot to get groceries, cat food, etc. Also, that's a very good reason to stock up, and get your stock up a week ahead....so when you forget the first day, or two, or three..... it can still happen before food runs out :D
    For certain things, for example, the end of a break, I like to set alarms with a 'pre alarm'...like, 3 minutes before the actual time, it will start playing soft music or something, so I know my break is almost up and can wrap up, find a stopping spot in my book/game/etc, and be ready to be done when it finishes.

  • @auboi5014
    @auboi5014 4 года назад

    I started doing this recently at the start of the year, but with timers. I typically work from home 2 days a week, and now 5 in the pandemic, so I use timers to know exactly how much work that I have left in the day, so I don't have to pay attention to the clock at all, and can curtail my tendency to overwork. Basically I take a typical work day (9 to 5 = 8 hours with an hour lunch included in that), and set 2 alarms, one for 7 hours (I deduct lunch) and one for 6 hours (this is my warning alarm, so I know when I need to start saving my work and closing down programs). When I'm working, I have the timers running, but whenever I take a break I turn them off, so if I say want to take a mid-afternoon nap, eat lunch, go for a jog, etc., I just pause them, and resume them when I get back to my computer. If I say have to work overtime to meet a deadline, I then use a stopwatch on my phone to keep track of that, and then I have an ongoing email thread where I keep track of how many extra hours I've worked each day, so if for instance I work 9h on Monday, I can do 7h on Tuesday (or whenever permits), and then add or subtract hours from my running total so that I can maintain work/life balance and not overwork or underwork. Whenever adding to the total, I've started taking note of why I've worked overtime as well. This probably isn't for everyone, or for every job, but it's helped me maintain structure in a flexible way during the pandemic (and I'll likely continue it afterwards, too).

    Albeit I now got a work from home job so making sure I get up at the first alarm to get dressed and prepped and go back to sleep til the next alarm when I get up and go, I’ve noticed I’m starting to get in that bad pattern of several alarms instead of just the first and 2nd. Definitely have to make sure I don’t indulge the poor habit. Nearly made myself late this morning.

    INTJ female here. Here I came to find a new way to remember things that could be more efficient and instead I found the way I already run my life, lol. Not only do I have alarms that remind me to take the garbage out or remind me to get ready for an event. I have an alarm that reminds me to go to bed.

    I also have 30+ alarms in my phone.
    I have 2 TYPES of alarms:
    • 3 alarms before something need to happen (or I need to make it happen) and • 2 alarms after to make sure I check myself and got results of an action

    I always forget the little things myself. Good to know I'm not the only one, and that it's not necessarily early onset dementia ^^
    I dislike smartphones (although I use one merely for communication and gps) as they provide too many distractions and I am obsessed with knowledge. I deleted most apps for this reason.
    For some inexplicable reason I have an internal clock which wakes me up for appointments right on the dot. This wasn't the case when I was a child, and I virtually had to be dragged out of bed. I like your methodology and appreciate your insight.
    I'm betting you probably go to the doctors when necessary with a list of queries, and of course upon seeing raised eyebrows feel compelled to explain that it helped to organise everything neatly and ensure that you do not forget to share anything. The fact they find it humorous let alone their befuddled expressions makes me question their efficiency and efficacy...

    I told this to somebody else, but last night I kinda rubbed somebody the wrong way...
    I told them I came across a song called "all I want to do", right after I rubbed that person the wrong way and made a slight accusation against. Foolish thing to do and won't ever be done again toward a highly innocent blessing of this world.
    Today has become a good day. I most recently received news that they captured the father of Amina and Sarah Said, for the murder of his too daughters.
    I first heard about this case not too long ago, but it emotionally affected me. It was like, I was thinking I could've been there to save them from their deaths. You can hear audio recordings of them dying and it's horrible to listen to. He shot them to death in a cab. You listen to the story and you just can't help, but feel for them girls. It was just a horrible, horrible thing to have happened. One of the last wishes Amina Said made, was to not be a memory.
    So, they caught that man today and it's amazing information to have a little focus on.

    infps live outside of objective reality lol i need 3 alarms just to wake up. and i never entertained the thought of having alarms for anything else. my preference was to have a transportable notepad that i could write on but then i was like no that's impractical but then i was like wait you have a brain 🧠 you take that everywhere you go and it stores information on your behalf. i naturally assume anything forgotten isn worth remembering...

    While I do have a lot of alarms and I can respond to them, I will also hide my keys next to the item that I need to bring with me. Then, when I panic, I remember the logic of why I placed the keys where I did, and I pick both up and leave. I also schedule weekly chores on the same day of the week, "It's Friday, so I must need to go to the bank."

    Try HabitNow app! It has categories and sadly worth paying 2 or 3 dollars, for the upgrade you will need for as an INTJ. It only gives you 20 free alarms! An average person would be overwhelmed. Worth trying out!

    Alarms are critical as an intj. I don't necessarily have many different alarms, though. I have a few alarms set then, hit the snooze over and over...This can go on for hrs btw. So it's almost like I'm creating a new alarm every 10, 15 or 30min as needed. This helps a lot while working a sensory heavy job to pull me back on track when I am constantly going off on mental tangents.

    Here is a recommendation by myself, use an app that's called "focusmeter" in the Google appstore, in here, you can set alarms for everything and see the time left to finish the task and you can select wherever you want to pass to the other stage of something (you can make something like "blocks" of things to do and divide them in times (resting included) and have the amount of focusing times invested during the days if you want to see that

    Strangely relatable.. even from the start with "categories of alarms" .. In my own case, I have specifics alarms for times of the day, one for 7:49 p.m. for example, an obscure enough time to known which alarm it always is.. primarily it reminds me that it's the late part of the day and I need to start thinking about winding down.. sometimes it saves me from staying up an extra 3 hours reading or watching stuff on RUclips.. sometimes not lol
    I set specific alarms sometimes, but most of mine are for "phases" of the day.. like the aforementioned night one, I have one for the beginning of the middle of the day, 10:42 a.m., for example. It's a few hours after I wake up, but it helps remind me that the 2nd phase of the day is about to begin, and there are human-tasks associated with that time.. eating lunch, maybe going to the store, etc..
    I'm not a robot!!... I'm a cyborg :}

    My memory is strange, sometimes when I have something to do (and it's not my habit) I start a kind of loop where I remember and forget continually that damn thing.
    Or there are some other moments where I have to remember something and I treat my memory like a time bomb: I have to repeat it many times until I make the thing, then I will erase it and I will never remember that.
    Luckily, this not happen with important events. Yeah, alarms are my saviors

    Trying to time table everything just doesn't work for me, my dom Fi can't deal with it. It needs to feel that it's not restricted within a reasonable amount of time, let's say one day. So, I have my to do list for that day that I take seriously but don't impose any specific time to do things that are not scheduled with other people ofc. This is the only way I can do shit without my Fi acting up and feel compelled to just rebel and say "You want to control me? Now I wont do it". It's kind of annoying having this voice in your head, it's like dealing with a very stubborn inner child that just won't listen.

    Ah yes, alarms. How did people even live without phones capable of handling alarms? Also, I often kniw beforehand which things I would remember without any help (mostly things I want to do) and which ones I will forget minutes after setting the alarm (mostly sensory and things that are “external” to me, like other’s wishes, social norms, feely thibgs). But I will still use the alarm ni matter what, it’s not worth the risk
