I've left so dang many of these for these other players.

My first time capsule was a picture of a guy getting chased by a reaper leviathan that read “Nah f this, I’m out”. It had me laughing so hard

Got one once with a picture of the ghost leviathan guarding the entrance to the lost river. It had a thermoblade and a stasis rifle and the message read "give this bastard my warmest regards"

Damn man. I wonder if he expected anyone to find the message. On the one hand, you want to give something like that space, on the other I'm filled with a lot of questions, you know? As game developers we make these things that mean one thing to us, but they weave together with so many stories.

One of the first ones I got contained a bunch of fish. After cooking up and eating a couple I got around to reading the note, which gave the fishes’ names and asked that they be taken care of. I felt like such a monster and put the remaining 3 in an aquarium.

"Continue the Legacy" and then I found a time capsule from a different person layer and it had a thermoblade like all the others and a picture of a dead reaper saying "Continue the Legacy" I still hope that it's going to this day

I remember my first capsule. It was in Russian and what I got out of it was a free stasis rifle and something about a dead body.
I got one similar, it was in Russian and was something along the lines of "hope these help you" and it had a stasis rifle and a flameknife
lol - I can't tell if it's suitably grim or a troll. I got another after this that was swim charge fins, someone's twitch handle, and what was maybe a bunch of their twitch subscribers? I checked out the channel and it was all in Spanish. Still tempted to go wave at the guy with my limited command of the Spanish language.

I remember i ate all the watermelons by accident instead of planting them back so my subnautica world didnt had watermelons until i saw 1 time capsule with watermelon seeds and that kinda saved my ass

My first Time Capsule was a picture of a guy being grabbed by a crab snake and said “ My friend DO NOT ENTER THE CAVE WITHOUT A DAMN SEAMOTH!”
the first one i found gave me a peeper and they left a note saying “take care of (peeper’s name)” and i carried the peeper around for so long before finding the blueprint for an enclosure until i eventually accidentally ate it😭

I like how the game beat us up and our first instinct when we can finally send a time capsule is to help one another, truly an amazing game.
Right? I'm seriously hoping that they revisit the time capsule mechanic for Subnautica 3. It doesn't have to be exactly the same, but the storytelling is still such an amazing element so many years in.
Reminds me of Nier Automata. Once you finish the game, you can delete your savefile in exchange to help other people.

I found one titled "Emergency provisions" and it was just 6 coffees with the description along the lines of "I brewed up some extra joe"
That's the emergency provision I'm in need of pretty constantly.

Me too. People here have talked about getting goofy ones, but even then I think that would pair really well with the serene, inspirational ones.
Goofiest time capsule I got was called “I love BBQ” or something. Before the devs added a filter so it had prop cannon and ion battery’s. The funny part was the image which was a screenshot of the mad-lad using the prop cannon to hold a cave crawler into a fire on the Aurora wreck. The description was presumably a recipe for cooked cave crawler.

Yeah well its endgame so we dont lose anything by giving away.
The first one I found had a picture of a crabsquid and it said that his name was Daryl, after the guy decided to move down there he befriended Daryl and said that Daryl likes to play with seamoths. He said to never hurt or get upset with Daryl because he makes sure your safe at night by watching you sleep through your windows.
He gave me a bottle of water, 1 ruby and some batteries. Those batteries then went to become the power cells for my cyclops which I used to go say hello to Daryl.
Here's to Daryl, may he forever fog up the windows of our Blood Kelp Observatory.

I only made the connection cuz I found one with tons of grammar issues and it wasn’t written in the same style as the messages in the game, figured it had to be from a player

I have found 3.
1. Contained a live garyfish and the message just said "friend'. The picture was of a garyfish (I assume the same one in the container)
2. Contained a Floater with the caption "find single hotties in your area now!" With a picture of the aurora.
3. Contained a prawnsuit propulsion cannon arm, with the caption saying "boop" and the picture was that of a crab squid being presumably flung quite far above the surface of the water.
Those are all legitimately incredible.

I sent a time capsule once with the exact recipe to make brownies,I then found a time capsule with an image of brownies and it said”To whoever made this recipe,my mom is in hospital recovering from a crash and so I made these brownies for her,she gives her thanks” I felt so good.

In my current playthrough which is like 3 hours long, I already found 3 capsules. The first one was kinda generic, with a stasis rifle and a heat blade. The second one had some random resources and an opal gem, which kinda surprised me. The third one was a straight up PRAWN suit grappling arm advertisement, and it had 2 posters and the said arm. Cool 👍

That third one sounds like one I made. It was basically “Your amazon order ABX165: 1x PRAWN drill arm, 2x cargo module, 1x Jet upgrade. Thank you for your patronage!” I don’t know if anyone ever got it though.

I remember cruising along on xbox when wreckage just.... Spawned around my seamoth. On the floating islands. That was a just barely.
@@ProfNeils my prawn suit fell through the floor and out the bottom of the world, I was able to recover it after getting some new prawn suit upgrades and somehow I had infinite 02 (please belive me) and just use the grapple arm to fly around the subnautica back rooms for a while
That could be super useful for a Subnautica speedrun
On Xbox my prawn clipped into a tiny cave entrance in the safe shallows it took me 5 batteries a lots of stress and 1 failed attempt using a reaper plus 4 hours to finally figure out o just had to boost with my grapple at a certain point then slowly it pulled me out and once it dislodged it was like a cannon and it launched me a bit good thing that was endgame so if I had to get rid of it the only pain was the sentimental value of that prawn suit as all my vehicles that save were my first ones

Imagine playing subnautica years ago and making a time capsule, and finding it years later maybe on a different account.
Someone commented that their dad found his own capsule a few years after his last playthrough.
I launched one and had taken screenshots because I was proud of the message, only to hop back in a month or so ago to find it lying next to the Quarantine Enforcement Platform, which is what the picture I put in was of.
I found my own time capsule after 2 weeks
I finished this game the week my father past. He succumbed to dementia. In my time capsule I put his favorite saying. "Good luck were counting on you."

If I recall correctly, my first time capsule was in creative mode. It was one about a pet peeper. I built an aquarium for it and gave it friends. The text was somewhat hard to read, but apparently the peeper was the survivor's only friend and hoped they could be friend to another survivor.

I found one that was pretty sad to hear. I guess an older brother who was leaving for college played Subnautica with his younger brother. The younger brother had gotten leukemia and never saw the end of the game. The message was pretty straightforward and said "I beat it for you. I hope you can enjoy seeing me beat the game for you. Love you little brother." It had some end game gear and a peeper. I still have the save still and have the peeper in an aquarium
There's a comment thread here that might be the same story? It's crazy to think that this mechanic allowed people to tell so many different stories, and those found their way to our experiences of the same game.
@@ProfNeils it's insane on how many people can have the same encounter with a story and then leave their own story for others to read is insane. Subnautica was insane for this.

I got one that told the story of Mr. Peeps. Apparently Mr. Peeps was a Chad that survived this persons whole playthrough in their inventory. I think I ate him though, so his journey is unfortunately now over.
I've only found about 5 of these across 3 different saves, definitely my favorites was one in German that I googled translated into the importance of history, experience, and love for life and beauty, complimented by two cups of coffee, a scanner with an ion battery in it, several creature eggs, and a picture of the sky and ocean from the floating island.
My other other favorite was the second installment of the Bone-chan stories, very captivating stuff.
My first capsule just had the words "I'm sorry little one." and a picture of a peeper in a bioreactor. The inventory did give me a laser cutter, some aerogel, and a PRAWN drill arm, so that was cool.
These are amazing. I'm curious what the second story installment was all about, but love that someone took time to get into history and a love of life and beauty. Thanks for sharing these!

I ALSO FOUND THIS ONE
Mine was simply a Peeper with a long note about how the last guy loved him, and kept this peeper (Mr. Peeps) either with them most of the time or in a big tank. Since they asked me to take care of him, I made it my duty to make sure that Damn peeper was well taken care of, and continued going on adventures with me. And I intend on sending him down in my capsule when I leave the planet tomorrow. Hopefully whoever finds him keeps the legacy of Mr. Peeps alive.

My very 1st playthrough I found one with a couple of Crabsnake eggs saying something like "Release outside of your base to keep it safe" I was locked into a Death Loop and had to restart 😫 So I made sure to do it with 1 Crabsquid saying "Release outside base to keep it safe"

The first time capsule I sent out after beating the game was literally everything i had that was valuable (A few diamonds and lithium, also a hoverfish) and i just made a note that said “take good care of that hoverfish, his name is harold”

Me and a friend loved this game and we’d always do similar ones with sarcastic but serious notes like “Hey captain, catch your breath… that’s weird, huh? “Captain…” weird the first time I heard it too, but since no one else is here, congrats on the promotion!” We both planned to join the army. He took his own life 3 months ago and I ship out in January. To whom ever finds it or reads this comment, reach out to your friends… they need it.
Found a 2018 capsule today. It was a cuddle fish with the words "This world is safer then the human world. Humans might hurt her. Her names Hugz. Please keep her safe for me." THE KICKER?? A reaper was circling around the capsule when i found it. Boy was trying to eat Hugz. 😭

Honestly subnautica has one of the best communities. And we never even meet each other face to face. It's so heartwarming
It really is a creative, thoughtful community.
I got one with a bunch of posters for my habitat and the screenshot was a cuddle fish named “Graham” I’m going to put the posters in the time capsule once I finish the game and I hope the tradition continues on!

I have played my save for abt 30 hours and obviously beaten the game, I have all 5 cuddlefish and an awesome base, and I still haven’t managed to find an time capsule

Sending the good time capsule vibes! I had played through at least three times, doing about everything in the game, and had never, ever, seen one. This was near the lifepod, in the ruby-encrusted volcanic area.
I just finished my first playthrough and I found 3 time capsules. I was like oh neat a feature they put in. Maybe like old people that died on the planet or something.
Nope actually irl people that finish.
I got a seaglide with an ion battery in the first one
Second had some lithium and copper
Third had I think some large water and nutrient blocks
They are so damm rare
I’ve found like 6 in one play through. They only spawn in certain biomes in the same slot that things like limestone and ruby spawns in. Best hotspot for me was the dunes, with half of all of the ones I found.

My first one was very practical. It was an image of a bladder fish and it said not to follow guides or walkthroughs on your first play through so you can explore and make your own mistakes. As regards to the image, it said to find this fish and learn it’s purpose!
Super good advice IMO. The story and experience are so fantastic, definitely try to avoid spoilers.
I lie time capsules. Whoever thought of them deserves a raise in unknown worlds it’s so cool seeing other peoples experiences, and also seeing stupid pointless gifts with one peeper and saying “Lol sorry”
Hard agree. I would LOVE to see more mechanics like this in other games, and truly hope that Subnautica 3 includes a time capsule mechanic, whenever it's finally released.
I left all the tokens I found, like the aurora figure, a hat, toys ect and a quote about how precious life is :')
So on this save I found a couple more before finishing the game. One had the exact loot you're describing, except it said something like, hello my fellow archaeologists, I've left some goodies for you!
But like... the creativity and good-spiritedness of them (even some of the troll ones, some of what people describe would take a LOT of work!) it's just pretty cool imo.

This same thing happened to me. I put my 6 ion power cells from my Cyclops into a capsule, along with a message explaining how much more power you could get with them, and got it in a later game. Unfortunately, when I got it, it had a grand total of 0 ion cells in it, so maybe they fell out during shipping, I'm not sure. A tragic loss.
RIP ion cells. May they live on in memory.
my first time capsule that I found was basically a novel written about this persons experiences whilst playing the game in the perspective of the MC. I think it just had general tools which I already had but it was really cool and someone put a lot of time into it.
That kind of gameplay journaling is so awesome to me, and honestly the format for some of my favorite RUclips storytelling in the survival genre.
A novel? Kinda hard considering how limited text for those is (its still pretty long but I found myself hitting limit when writing tips for player that finds it)
I've found several but only one that was really super useful. It had a Thermoblade, SeaGlide, Scanner, a handful of Ion Batteries and an Ion Cell!! At only an hour in, this was a God-send!!
That's the type I always send after the first one I found had a thermoblade in it, long before I had the ability to make it. I think I stuck a thermoblade, and a couple ion batteries and a power cell in my first one. Enough to be a nice head start in quality of life, but not remove any challenge. I think I put in the message that I had gotten the thermoblade from a capsule, and to pass it on. Really liked that inclusion to the game, even if its existence doesnt really make much sense in game.

i absolutely ADORE subnautica it is easily the best game ive ever played in my life. one thing i hated is that i had to leave my babies tho:( i wanted to cry when you said bye to your cuddlefish and they hugged you and stuff:( sent off a time capsule with some absolutely chad loot and a fond message for the game and the player who finds it. i hope someone did end up finding it, though it is unlikely since they r working on subanutica subzero
Yeah, right now Subnautica 3 is apparently slated to be an RTS title -- which could be interesting but I'll be surprised if it's the same vibe. In a way, that's kind of nice for the original Subnautica because it gets to stay that quirky, scary world that you can come back to every so often. But I hope someone does find the chad loot, even if that's not strictly what they're making right now.

I found TWO in that trench, one in the same spot and another further down and to the (idk whether it's north or south, east or west so I'm just gonna say right)

I didn't leave a note but instead left a max depth module for the prawn and cyclops, prawn suit drill and grapple arm, ion power cell and prawn thermal reactor
Hey Unknown Worlds, could I get this guy's time capsule next? In my current game I just got one that said time capsules were too op, so here's a scanner.

That's awesome. It boggles my mind how much depth and storytelling Unknown Worlds found with one little game mechanic.
My first one had a picture of a guy playing with his cuddlefish, saying "I'll miss this planet, take care it just as I did"
My other one had a picture of a leviathan and a text "I killed how many I could before leaving, raise the killcount kid" and yes, it had a stasis rifle and a blade
I literally couldn’t find any time capsule but my friend who was playing first time found 4 time capsules lol
I had seriously left so many before finding this one. That ruby area where I'm at sounds like a good place to look -- but in the comments here folks have even said that they've found capsules in the safe shallows and around some other pods.

i got one with a hoverfish named Bendak, and the picture was him yawning. it was so freakin adorble. now Bendak lives forever in my aquarium

That's nice. I just recently beat the game for the first time and my time capsule had a cuddle fish egg and a picture of me playing with mine. I made a message about how it was the greatest friend anyone could ask for and to make lots of memories with the one in the capsule. I miss that little guy.
I love those guys. My favorite animation is the high five.

@straightvibin6972 Does it contain 2 hats and an Aurora figure? I think I got your capsule don't worry, I got your friend cuddle fish he was safe and sound in the Tree Cove where I set a base there and playing with the other cuddle fishes.
@kwistarplus-3189 No way! I'm not completely sure about the hats tbh but I definitely remember the aurora figure. And in the off chance you did get mine I'm very glad to hear the cuddle fish is ok. Thank you for doing that for him.
I remember my last time capsule was done on hardcore mode. It's a screenshot of me fighting a baby ghost leviathan in the Lost River with my prawn suit. My message was "Our battle was legendary and so will yours be!!!"

Dang! Yeah I have hundreds of hours into the game, and only first found one in... 2022. From comments though, I'm curious if they maybe patched it recently to help make them more plentiful.
Ive played the game 4 times but ive never found one, replaying it rn and i highly doubt ill find one lol

The hardest part about making a helpful time capsule; you don’t know where the person who finds it is at in the game. You could put a bunch of starting tools (sea glide, scanner, repair tool, etc.), but those wouldn’t be helpful for people who are at the point where they are prepared to go to the Lava zone or something. If you placed something generally helpful like batteries, food, water, med kits, or things like that it’s helpful but not nearly as much as something like a blueprint or tool you really needed.
So true. I'm always thinking the cat poster is the ultimate s tier loot, but maybe it gets to someone who's not going to decorate. Ion batteries are awesome, but maybe someone likes the struggle. I really love getting something where you can tell real care was put in. The other person was certain you were going to get a kick, and that itself tells a pretty cool story.
One time I had a capsule with 1 single titanium and the message said “ be grateful “ 😭 and the photo was a reaper leviathan

I found a time capsule with a reinforced dive suit, stasis rifle, and a thermal knife along with a picture of a dead reaper leviathan, and all the caption said was, "My time has come, and they ain't gonna hunt themselves."

@@nas9717 at the end you build a rocket to escape the planet and there's a time capsule. You put all the stuff you want there and at the end of the game the capsule is launched and other players cna have it.

Time capsules are either the funniest or most heavy hitting stuff. First one I got was one with enameled teeth and metal salvage with a picture of kelp forest. He said continue playing with the stalkers he loved to play with for he couldn’t anymore. I never thought I could get emotional over those damn things
I’m amazed to see this game still has a community. I stopped playing it 5 years ago.
I come back every year or so, but yeah even for something as replayable as Subnautica it is pretty impressive.
I’ve gotten many time capsules. A lot thanks to the old time capsule spawn booster and old time capsule alert mods (neither of which work now). But I remember one had a Twitch name in it so I decided to tell the guy I found his capsule. Apparently that capsule I found was 2 years old at that point, now it’s more like 4 or 5, and he was super exited that I found it. So I started putting my steam name in the ones I sent off. I’m not sure how many I sent but hopefully at least 1 person will one day message me telling me they found a capsule from General Thunder
I'm definitely adding a social or two to my next one. I got one not long after this from a Spanish language streamer. He dropped his twitch name and I'm hoping to catch him live so I can wave.

Agree. I love it. Even most of the trolly ones show so much creativity and forethought.
I found one in my first play through in the first 10 hours maybe, and it got a bunch of the player tools (but I already had them all.) 😩
Same I got one with the propulsion cannon which I had just built in the end I used it to build a repulsion cannon which I never used
There is nothing I love more in this game than finding a time capsule. One time I found one but it was under a piece of wreckage and it wouldn't let me grab it. I was so sad. I tried for so long and now that I'm thinking about it, I don't think I tried the propulsion cannon and now I'm sad all over again.
In my play through I found multiple mini auroras from time capsules and by the end of my run I had four mini auroras total, I was very proud of my collection and then sent all four of them off in a time capsule for someone else to have. Maybe someone else has a bigger collection than me now.
My first playthrough of subnautica I'd done in a looong long time (never actually got far into one until this one) I found a capsule about an hour in.
It contained a few bottles of water and a picture of the Sea Dragon Leviathan.
Thankfully I already knew it existed, If it was a new player they'd probably be scared shitless
The sheer terror of the creature concepts do not disappoint in Subnautica.

And then whilst you are playing you find a cool little capsule with a picture from a player...of a fucking massive underwater dragon shooting fireballs in near blood-red water with underwater lava pools dripping around it
I made a time capsule when I finished the game on Switch 3 years ago. My message was saying I finished the game on Switch and that I was jealous of PC players. I also congratulate you for finding my time capsule, saying I haven't even found one myself. I then explained the contents of my capsule:
•A thermoblade to cook fish
•Swim Charge fins so your Seaglide never dies
•A Hoverfish I named Jerry
My picture was a Sea Dragon I named Larry attacking me in my PRAWN suit while holding Jerry. (A glitch lets you hold items while piloting vehicles). I finished by saying avoid Larry, and dont eat Jerry and carry on his legacy.
I finally got a PC about a year ago and bought Subnautica on Steam a few days ago. I also managed to find someone "sharing" the mod files for Return of the Ancients. While attempting to find Lifepod 7, I found my first time capsule. I open it up and discover that I found *my capsule from my Switch file!*
I immediately ventured out into the void and tossed Jerry towards an angry Garg before promptly dying.
I didn’t know when sending out capsules other IRL people can find them in their games that is so fucking cool

I found a capsule with a few materials to make a cyclops and a stasis rifle
The picture was of a leviathan trying too get to a player on the Neptune launchpad
The note simply stated
"This guy tried to stop me from leaving, stop him from living please"
That was a fun playthrough
It can add so much to a playthrough, especially given it's a single player experience. Getting that extra burst of player-driven storytelling, from other players, is so nicely implemented.

i found one in the exact same location filled with kyanite and lithium bars and all that rare crap and the message said "when you beat the game don't be a jerk give people some rare crap to" and i did the exact same thing when i sent mine out

I made similar text to my time capsule and sad something like that "dont be an asshole,be a giver"
My best memory was experiencing the first game basically completely blind. It’s probably the best way to get into subnautica.
There's a real unfolding that happens with the game's narrative. IMO totally delightful.

i use acid mushrooms for my bioreactors and i found timmy, he’s safe inside my Aquarium
I got one that was the stasis cannon with a thermoblade, with a message saying something along the lines of "these served me well in my time on this planet, and may they serve you well also". I love this feature so much. Later when i beat the game, i left the same items in a time capsule for the next person who comes along... Continuing this anonymous player's legacy and tradition.
There's a whole thread here on the "Continue the Legacy" capsules. I guess there are a few variants, all from folks continuing the legacy.

God i love the message in that capsule i pick up the game a couple years ago and just picked it back up still have bot found my first ever time capsule but if i launch my own hope some one continues my legacy of a builder
Update yet to launch my yet sadly yet to find one cuase i keep restarting but and finally have the determination to finsh this save i currently have eish me luck and if i finally luanch 1 i wish yall the best of luck on finding and your own journeys

Sadly, ion gear will not get accepted into time capsules. Ion cubes will though.

@@sprucewood4856 ion power cells don’t have ion cubes in the recipe. The ion power cell recipe is similar to the normal power cell recipe
My forst time capsule was a message from a survivor who said he had found a fish in a time capsule and that the message he read about the fish was one of enjoyment and friendship.he told me in the capsule that the fish had beought him great joy and that he wanted me to take care of it.only problem was is i was currently being hunted by leviathans while dying to dehydration.i died and went to fet food and water shortly after I remembered the time capsule and looked in my inventory to see not one but two fish(I couldn’t tell witch was wiitch or if i had done the unthinkable on accident.i threw both the fish i had in my inventory into an aquarium where they are now.i hope so much that the fish in my inventory was the one he game me to love,not the ones in my stomach 😢
