    If I had this wisdom when I was in my early 20s I wouldnt have wasted so much time and money on stuff! Im in my 30s now and grateful for youtube and this content. Im working towards living this way and surrounding myself with people that respect this type of living.

      I also wish I’d been onto this sooner! I’m so grateful for RUclips! And am happy to be at the point now, where I’ve done enough un-learning that it’s mainly enjoyable to continue down this path 😄

    You’re the first person (and I’m addicted to minimalists videos) that has described sentimental things the way you do. It’s very insightful and profound. Thank you. If you wrote a book, I would buy it… especially if you recorded your own audio because your voice is soothing.

    I'm also impressed that you don't have the urge to travel out of the country to experience different parts of the world. I'm poor and haven't seen other parts outside of the US yet, but I definitely want to.

      Well, I think I was always most interested in people and felt like they were deep enough regardless of where they lived. But my older sister loved travelling! I hope to move overseas one day though to live there for the rest of my life!

    One of the best, and clearest explanations I have heard for not owning things! Thank you. I realised some while back that, though a minimalist, my greatest stresses seemed to be when buying things. And then of course I have to check my stuff and donate items that have become excess to charity shops! It is a mad way to live really and I just don't want to do it anymore. I am hoping to do a nobuy/lowbuy next year and this has motivated me. Thanks again.

      Thank you! This is so wonderful to hear! It can be quite a challenge because I think consumerism is so encompassing we forget there’s even a choice! There’s a few systems in place I think that convince us we’re doing what we want… but it’s really just the power of marketing to make someone else a buck! I’ll be sending you my best wishes for your nobuy/lowbuy!

    I love how you make it sound so simple! I really don't own much aside from clothes and books. And puzzles. Lots of puzzles (cubes, pyraminx, etc.)

      Pyraminx! So that’s what those are called 😄 I feel like a good advocate for minimalism, because I never see out to become minimalist, I just ended up there because I really didn’t like misplacing things and not being able to find them! 🤣

    Amazingly put!!! I really can't praise you enough for explaining why minimalism is very important and should be the normal way of life in order for the world to recover! I love how you mention it from the point of view of being a conscientious person taking responsibility for your choices, your actions on this earth and their consequences. Thank you for these videos and please keep making more I think you are talking about stuff every person promoting minimalism should mention. Have a blessed day🙏

    Agree about gifts. I don't want any, and I also don't want to give people shit they really don't need. It's very counter cultural though and it's amazing how angry people can get about it. The only gift I do occasionally get people close to me are plants.

    I have a kindle just cause I dont want millions of books, i also still play video games but I get a lot of enjoyment from said games, I no longer play online games nor do I dedicate too much time to games, i just love exploring the stories and music like an interactive film. In saying that I completely agree with you and the vast majority of people use games in a very unhealthy way. I love your videos, im very much a minimalist and i only keep things that have deep meaning for me (gaming is all digital) I eat and drink healthy, and im learning to move forward. Im definitely not as extreme as you with it but i own maybe 50 things throughout the house

      @@SonamHoani i think as long as it doesnt rule your life its okay, i think over 90% of people who play games have it rule their life though and would be way better off quitting. I have spills, sometimes ill play an hour a day, sometimes i wont play at all for a month, given its so fleeting i allow it into my life. I have pretty much dumbed my phone down, deleted all social media accounts and practice monthly declutters and constantly revisiting frugality. Im getting there, i just dont mind escapism time to time, a good novel, movie or a little game session sparks so much joy. Again though, i dont play mindless games, just ones with great stories and inspiration. I used to follow a kung fu mentality and approach to life, i noticed you videos on enlightenment and im going to allow myself a little binge on them, i really like what youre doing here on youtube, the inspirations you share will help many lost people turn their lives around im sure of it!

    As a longtime PC gamer, that sounds INCREDIBLY difficult. From a cost perspective, things have been super cheap as I practically never upgrade my PC rig. I feel greatly connected to all the people who delve into PC gaming as a hobby as well as keeping in touch with fellow gamers via Discord. However, I've questioned if my time spent in front of the screen is truly a waste of time, though I do balance it out with free activities such as hiking/walking/bodyweight workouts. Do you have any thoughts on detaching from what feels like a seemingly harmless digital world?

    • @SonamHoani
      @SonamHoani  Год назад +1

      I don’t think there’s necessarily anything wrong with a harmless digital community. I would just want to make sure I’m still expanding my mind and ideas in surprising ways, in case somewhere out there, there’s a way of life that does offer more and that retrospectively might make me wish I’d spent my time in other ways. There’s nothing wrong with feeling comfortable while you get somewhere, but in my experience it’s always important to reflect on what our lives actually are and where we’re headed. Life is short. What do we want this to be? So I guess wheat In saying is, it does sound harmless and valuable for you and that’s great :) Then, from my personal experience I always want to break ups patterns and try opposites to help ensure my flourishing :D In sending much appreciation your way!

      @@SonamHoani I look forward to it! You're an inspiration for me to own less! My friends think I'm already extreme (been minimalist for 5 years, going on 6), but the peace didn't follow when I had no choice but to move into a smaller space.
      I have too many things once again and have no idea where to start with letting more go because I fit so well in my previous home. I'm going to be moving again, and more than likely to a larger space, but until then I feel like I'm drowning because I have no storage space, just living in a small bedroom.

    I love video games. I have some great memories playing games with my kids and friends, and also online with strangers brought together for a challenge (Halo for instance). I still have some of the physical games but tend to play with a subscription (like X-Box Game Pass) which reduces clutter. I’m not just being contrary but would really like to know why an experience in a console game or VR is any less real than anything else we experience. Keep up these great videos - they challenge me to think of the different perspectives people can have on life. And I do need to get rid of some of my crap ;-)

    • @SonamHoani
      @SonamHoani  2 года назад +3

      I see what you’re saying, and I do agree. Experience in video games doesn’t have to be “lesser.” It’s just a personal statement, I think that… the amount of time playing video games condenses to not so many meaningful moments. There’s some afternoons I remember playing with my friends… and even some evenings I remember playing by myself. But then there were MANY more hours, which for some reason I intuit, that if I were on my death bed and asked to reflect… I get the sense that I’d wish I’d spent a lot more of that time doing something… healthier, or more challenging, or more beneficial for others… So maybe those values make up my unexplained hierarchy of experiential preference! … (Thank you for being so constructive with your comment 😄)

    I've watched several minimalists describe their life style. I'm still waiting for the minimalist who gives up their automobile. I am lucky to live in a place where one is not necessary. Not owning a car is the single most act you can do for the environment. Buying unbleached cotton or second hand tech may have a feel good effect, but in the grand scheme of things it's what we in NE USA call bupkis.

    • @SonamHoani
      @SonamHoani  2 года назад +2

      My aim is to be car free and flight free in the future. I’m not sure why you would say that other things, which are better for the environment is nothing at all… I mean if it’s better for the environment, it’s better for the environment, it all adds up and I think the goaI is to be as perfect as possible 😄
