People are fighting to keep what they have...In some cases they will have more in others they will have less..It is the balance that must be maintained.

Minimalism has definitely improved my mental health, happiness and overall lifestyle. I don’t find myself craving so much and my headspace is really light and relaxed ever since this way of living came into my life. It also made me appreciate the smallest things and the moments that matter the most in my life.

True, so many old buildings could be repaired and new mechanical. But I see some cities in decay instead of fixing up, that allow neighborhoods to become low income and it just decays. They can redo them as shelters, condos, lofts etc.

I work part time on purpose so I can actually enjoy my life instead of work myself to death. I lead a simple life on purpose. My friends think I’m strange as I don’t want a big house and all the stuff, but I often find I’m a lot more positive and happy than they seem to be.
Oh my god I relate! Especially with the first saying of working part time on purpose. I discovered that after HS thinking like I don't like spending hours on one thing even if I love it. I like to always do different things and smile throughout the day doing different meaningful things
Dam that's so true.. work work work and all you have time for is dying lol. Life is more than just working but the government and the higher ups don't want you to believe that.. society is garbage. I know people who spent most of their lives working and most of them are miserable as hell. Nobody on their death beds says to themselves... "Dam, I wish I worked more".
In Hebrew, there is a saying: "מרבה נכסים, מרבה דאגה". (Pronounced as such: Marbe' nechasim, marbe' de'aga). In direct translation to English: "One who has many assets, has many worries". I thought it's worth a mention in the comment section, to show that these kind of ideas can be found within multiple cultures. And also because someone might find this interesting.
I found I had far more than I need, once I stopped buying more I found I didn't want more but wanted less, letting go of what I don't need gave me a sense of calm and inner peace. I love the simplicity of life that not owning more than one needs brings. 🙏
I’ve watched a lot of NDE (Near Death Experience) videos about people who went to heaven, had a life review and then came back to Earth. The one thing they ALL have in common is people said material things don’t matter at all, the only thing that matters are your relationships with people and how you treat them.
Investigating NDE and trying to extrapolate from these experiences is not a logical and won't give you the answers you're looking for. To be clear, I don't have these answers and I can assure you that not because someone experienced delusion associated with NDE that he has them
I started listening to NDE's when i was a truck driver to pass the time... i noticed the same thing.. they came back with a different mindset about their possessions, their relationships and Love... their stories are so interesting...
Brilliant! After 12 years of reading/listening to Eckhart Tolle I notice that I am totally content with what I already have - I literally say thank you while lying in bed most nights for everything I have - from a warm bed to the fact that my back doesn’t hurt - helps you sleep like a baby 😊
You want nothing, nothing is what you end up with once you get to old age, then you will look back upon your life and say I could have done this, i could have achieved more and regret your wasted life
I am totally into simplifying my life in many aspects in order to create space and time for the things that I enjoy and self discovery. A large part of self discovery is understanding what serves you and what does not and then figuring out why.
Your name looks Balkan. Haven't been in Serbia in many years, but I know Serbia has strong family connection and big families. It's something that makes me happy.
I am a minimalist and letting go is true wealth. I downsized and live a simple life. You will have more to eat better food, less debt, and more cash flow because your not worried about material possession. Less is more.
I couldn't agree more with you on this! Living a minimalist lifestyle will help us focus on a more valuable thing and self development rather than on material and unnecessary things.
I agree but I would also add that it's much better to live in a Mansion than in a small pathetic apartment. It's all about frequency. Having a nice top apartment or Mansion is much more likely to raise your frequency and keep you in a good and positive state of mind, rather than living in your mom's basement. Life has a lot of good to offer, so I would advise taking advantage of it instead of rejecting and ignoring it. Only poor and miserable people complain about status, wealth, and money like they "don't want it". That's a lie, they're just not able, smart, and brave enough to go get it. And that's the honest truth.
@@True38 that’s not true. If that was the case these celebrities and millionaires wouldn’t have low dark frequencies with all they have. High frequency starts within not outside.
@@ToniTruth88 There will always be exceptions to the rule. I'm sure you get my point either way. What we do and where we are, affects us all very much. Ask anyone who has lived in the ghetto, and has become rich and successful, whether their life is better or worse than it once was...
In essence I agree with your sentiments. I would add though that is easier for some to let go of lots of useless possessions than it is for others. If having less still leaves you with objects that will make life easier for you such as owning a plough and fork for growing food than that is great. Others however don't have the luxury of getting rid of objects because they are already devoid of them to the point where they are destitute. So a fair comment but one that will always be subjective on an individual's or families circumstance. The only other point I would add (and I am not inferring you don't think of this) is I am sure you have others in your life that provide you with emotional security and wellness. I do understand your point though and regarding the vast majority of wealthy countries I absolutely agree with what you are saying.
Minimalism is great! Think about it: The more you posses things, the more efforts you'll do to maintain them, the more time you'll spend just for taking care of trivial things, and the easier you'll lose track of everything. To simplify, the more you possess, the more troubles you'll have. By keeping only the essentials in your life, you can shift your focus on the things that truly matter, and you'll be surprised by how much time are available to make the best out of your pasions and goals. That is the definition of freedom that you're looking for.
I agree! We are spending too much trying to maintain a lot of things - not only in the form of money, but we could be spending time as well. Freedom is having a lot of time for yourself and to all that matters.
While watching this video, I realized that what drives me to overwork is not material, but rather the anticipation of meeting basic needs in the U.S. when I'm older/retired. Working requires more consumption - transportation, presentable clothing, etc. When I took a year off of work, I consumed very little.
That applies to people too.. It’s better to be alone than to share your life with someone who’s full of strife or someone who wants to drag you down to make themselves feel better.
I’m often perplexed in our modern age by the conceptualisation of loneliness as not emulating the consumerist socialites who want to define society in their own image. Any wander can result in a nod, smile, or verbal greeting, and even an impromptu conversation. Yet in some cities that’s frowned upon as people rush to their next social fix. I think dragging up, as motivational gurus might be described, is equally toxic, as you can lose your identity to displays of the success they promote as ideals. True friends will meet with no interest in occupying spaces where they can display their consumerist credentials by buying more drinks or consumables. I think they’re few, if any, in today’s society.
IS human connection really necessary though? I often struggle with this because I feel fulfilled through my connection to myself, with nature and non human animals. I do enjoy and value short interactions and connections with strangers, but most people are too clogged up in their own issues and perceptions that a true, pure long term connection is hard to find and exhausting to pursue. Letting go of that attachment to find like minded humans has freed me even further. I don't dislike humans, I just don't feel like I need deep connections with them anymore.
Hi there, introverted person with high intrapersonal intelligence here. I enjoy a very simple life connecting to nature and animals (especially plants) and I have come to realize that I don't need to be "sociable" as it is seen in society but if you find people that have the same mindset you will truly enjoy human company. I feel full once I spend time hiking in nature with friends that believe in the same things. I usually just avoid people that I feel are too "heavy" or with a negative mindset and focus on my goals instead.
I agree 100%...However, you and I are not like most humans...They need human interaction.... We may not realize how amazingly free we really are for that very reason..
Correct. But no power means no decisions. No decisions mean that others make choices for you, and, in an evil world full of people with their own wants and desires, the decisions made for you often benefit them and hurt you. Instead, Embrace responsibility, but don’t take on more than necessary. Understand that every decision and object you take on has a consequence, but accept it for the things that you want. The video is about controlling those wants. That’s the freedom.
It pains having people close to you doing this. Bro keeps buying things I know he will toss away in the very close future. He's cluttering himself with useless, short lived stuff. The sad thing is you seemingly can't force his eyes open, he has to realize it himself from within.
King Solomon wrote about this in Ecclesiastes 1:14: :I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind." As a king, Solomon had done and seen it all. After all his experiences.. Solomon declared that everything was meaningless and purposeless. It was like chasing after the wind. You can strive harder, run faster, but the wind cannot be caught. It will blow right through your hands even if you try to touch it. Solomon was referring to material pursuits which take up the majority of our time here on earth. Materially..we can never have enough. There is always an appetite for more. So like chasing after the wind, having as much material wealth as we desire is an unachievable goal. On the other hand, spiritual pursuits like loving God and keeping His commandments, repentance, studying His word are meaningful and valuable. It’s the mindless pursuit of physical pleasure and material gain that Solomon was speaking out against. It’s a waste of time and waste of a life.

I am so glad that I found this video! I have been asking myself this question a lot for literally months! I admit that when I begin to see what most people see as value it makes me cry sometimes. I I went through an experience that made me favor the life of the minimalist. Unfortunately now I am living out of my van and only working part-time. But I have been able to save a lot of money which will help me purchase land of my own. I feel like I don’t belong in the consumers world. It’s been a lonely journey feeling like I was born in a world I don’t belong in. Not trying to damper the mood! This was an awesome video and I feel it was placed on my path as a sign of hope. 😊
I've felt the same way my whole life so I'm sure there are more of us out here. Lived in a van for a while too. I want to make my little community out in the middle of nature off grid

Big YES to this! Wealth is relatively dependent to our peace of mind, rather than our possessions. Being financially secured and living below our means can be considered a real wealth.
Been there done, done that. Either way, all i really need is some insulin and a CPAP and a Blueberry Muffin to offset the blood sugar drop of the insulin and a glucometer with sensors would be nice.
Went to visit my grandmother who lived a simple life, I never realized how rich she was and how much she had invested her time well! She had many friends and family that would come daily to her house to watch over her. They all would tell about the impact she had made in their lives and how much they loved her. Then seeing it as an adult I realize she had invested her life well loving and helping others! When she passed so many where there to share and remember her. She had no money she never needed it. My mother told me that a bird came through the door to sing on the moment of her passing! The gift of her life is one of my most prized possessions.
Can hardly begin to express how much I loved this video from beginning to end. It was like the feeling one has on a very cold grey winter morning, and the air is so cold that even at 10am your breath is steam. Then all of a sudden the clouds part just a little and the sun pokes through. You can just feel the soft light warm your face and clothing, just a tiny bit. It felt that completely wholesome for me. Just a tiny little ray of sanity, in the midst of everything else I see around me. I've always had inclinations or cravings towards minimalism. I see now I've got some work to do. Thank you.
A way to live minimalistic is also to not buy things you don't need. Your apartment doesn't have to be an empty hall with one chair and a window, just don't buy useless shit you don't need. You'll save so much money, use it for quality food and whatever your hobbies are
I realized that the secret to making a million is saving for a better investment. I always tell myself you don't need that new Maserati or that vacation just yet. That mindset helped me make more money investing. For example last year I invested 80k in stocks (with the help of my Financial Advisor of course) and made about 246k, but guess what? I put it all back and traded with her again and now I'm rounding up close to a million.
The pandemic came and taught everyone the importance of having multiple stream of income, unfortunately having a nice paying job doesn't mean you are financial secured anymore. So we all need to put in an extra-income earning chance, like investments.
Frugality is an attractive quality to the majority of the population. Being frugal is about putting your dollars towards the things you care about and not overspending on the things that don't matter.
My first investment with Mrs Gillian Sara Sheeran, gave me the assurance that have made me invest without the fear of losing. I got four of my friends involved with her already.
It can be positive or negative in what you’re surrendering to. It isn’t all black and white and sounds nice but depending on what it is. It can shape you or break you.
In Norway the woods are protected to remain free for everyone to use. You can tent anywhere for a night as long as its further than 100 meters from a house. Hopefully this doesn’t change
@Edwin Thomas After a bit of thinking on it, I figured out what you were trying to tell me. The way of life that you are suggesting might seem like the solution to the problem of suffering, but when you go into it you will find out that way of living is not the solution. The Buddha tried it out, he said it did not help him find enlightenment. When he stopped searching, he found the answer. A walk in the woods will not solve this problem, but that is not what I was implying. To be more clear, then, walking in the woods is just an enjoyable activity. That is all.
The things you own, can end up owning you. It’s better to be free of things. Instead, focus on your physical and mental well being, be more family oriented, and learn skills you can use forever
> It might be better, but how do you deal with the uncertainties of life? You will have a lifetime need for shelter ---- how will you command the resources needed to insure you can meet that need? Similarly needs for food, water, health care transportation and education need to be met for a lifetime. Things CAN wind up owning you. And they can also provide you with comfort and security. Rather than swearing off "things," I suggest that they be accumulated wisely rather than eschewed altogether.
I’m pretty calm and relaxed. I’m sitting back on a Friday evening watching this and realizing I’m already doing this without thinking it has a name or an explanation. Nice video.
This video really spoke to me. I live in my van which definitely requires a minimalist mindset. I can work a job I love and have side projects which fulfill me. I get to do this because I don't need much income. I have never been happier in my life. Zero stress. And I just see people rushing to work and then rushing back home and think, what's the point. They all have expensive cars and have to work shops they probably hate to pay for them, why?
I used to get teased a whole lot for what I didn't have. Still don't know why people would want to live in a place covered wall to floor in possessions. I've got a handful of items. And thats all I need.
Same. As a kid I was judged for not having new clothes every year. I was too young to realize we were poor, but my parents did their best and that’s all that matters.
It isn't possessions that cause the issue, it's your attachment to them. Once you come to grips with the fact that you'll wind up losing EVERYTHING you have (including yourself), you'll know peace and be able to enjoy whatever it is you have.
@@MM-Iconoclast Possessions are inanimate objects. It's the person who gives them power (or not). Just like some people can enjoy a glass of wine here and there (and reap the rewards without the pain), so to can some of us treat possessions. If you can't, then it's your own addiction that's the problem, not the possessions themselves 💯
@Priyojit chatterjee People overthink this topic all the time. Possessions are more than simply "tools", they can also be sources of fun and play. If you're unable to use your possessions in the proper way, then by all means stay away from them (just like alcoholics should stay away from alcohol). But, if you've got the right relationship with them, then use them for the happiness they can accentuate (notice I said accentuate, not create). I can't remember what comedian said this, but the quote is "people say money can't buy happiness, but I've never seen anyone frown on a wave runner". The key is to use your possessions, and not let them use you 💯
It would be interesting challenge, to become enourmously rich with luxurious items without attachement to them. That would be true way of life, abudance not greed, possesions not attachements to them. Challenge accepted 8-) :P :D
Driving through an upper class suburb, you never see any life on backyard decks or swimming pools. I suspect these twenty room homes are almost always empty. What’s the point of “having” if you’re spending sixty plus hours/ week at your job but you can’t actually find the time to use the stuff you buy?

Really powerful message. Lately I've been in the mindset of pursuing achievements and trying to make my life 'better'. I think I've really needed to take a step back and appreciate the friends and family I have. Great video!
True wealth indeed is priceless. Aside from having a good financial investment, having a lot of good-spirited people surrounding you are both what makes us truly rich.
I 'm not a minimalist, but I think the perfect balance is to only spend money on things you like and not to impress people. Think about where you're buying something solely to impress people, you'd be in a much better place to cut those things out. For example, I work hard and save money to go travelling, because I want to enrich myself with the experience, not to take glamorous pictures for Instagram. When I'm travelling long distances sometimes I have bought business class plane tickets, but that was only because I'm a big guy and needed to sleep on the plane which would have been better for my health and my circadian rhythm, I did NOT take any pictures of it to try and make anyone jealous. Nothing wrong with spending money but you need to make sure it's for the right reasons, to enrich the health and enjoyment of you and those you care about. Spending money on things to impress people is a bad idea, trust me I learnt the hard way.
Spending money on things to impress others is something only rich people can do, normal people won't do that because they don't have the money to do so in the first place.
Although i believe this is important to realize, i don't think that it is necessarily a good excuse to stop chasing. Some chases give us purpose and drive us into better situations. Always something to keep in mind though
Ecclesiastes 1:8 All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: "the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing" . So you will NEVER be satisfied with material things
@@sammercer2894 You make a good point. It's important to have goals but what I meant by the chase is seeking satisfaction and fulfillment in material goods.
I've always been minimalistic myself and developed a strong character through honest and hard work. I do want to obtain financial freedom though but not out of materialistic reasons. I'm just sick and tired of working my ass off for scraps...
I this is 100% how I feel. I am not a slave to possessions. Im also not so stupid that i dont realize that money buys freedom. I would like to not work anymore. Period. I dont need a big house, cars, newest shit. I simply dont want to HAVE to work anymore
Some one once told me that financial independence is a state of mind, now I begin to understand that I am the resource, yes sometimes I eat cup of noodles, other times money roll in. Money has nothing to do with me. I work, sometimes out of necessity. The idea that I can just go and help a business owner sell cold soda curbside, or deliver food, etc whatever your skills are, use it, my friend, for your financial freedom.
I just want to own a couple acres of land and live in a cabin. Grow food, small amount of livestock and enough money to get the feds off my ass about property taxes.
I am reminded of the chain that Jacob Marley was forced to drag around the afterlife as punishment for his miserly ways.....I think there is definitely a line to cross where your possessions begin to possess you...you become concerned with protecting them from theft, fire & natural disasters....some become occupied with accumulating more & better than others...letting go of materialism/consumerism is like setting down a heavy weight 👐
I don't care much about social status but I seem to be a born collector. I collected metal junk off the streets (to use in art projects). I am trying to declutter my life for mental health. I realize that each object I own (despite its worth) takes up mental space and is a burden as well as a joy. As I get older I want fewer burdens. I may never be a minimalist but I want to move in that direction.

People are stunned when I tell them I moved over to Europe with nothing more than a sling bag and what I was wearing. It's a freeing existance knowing you can go anywhere at any time and not be tied down to any possession.
Minimalism has lost all its purpose in today's world with it turning in to some sort of competition and aesthetic race rather than using it as a self development tool. Like it is just like coming out of prison and walking straight in to a cage.
People need to stop taking the context out of concepts just because the concept in itself pleases someone. Specially if they use such concepts in contexts that goes straight against the original idea. I find strange how someone can live in irony without realizing it
I think the root of the issue is narcissism. People turn it into a competition, lose the plot and end up in cages of their own making because they measure their self-worth by how others see them. The essence of narcissism.
this makes super aggressive lol living in their 2000€ appartment and act like they became a monk because they drink some green juice in the morning an do yoga haha
"in todays world" so what, you miss the point. That is the point, don't worry about what the ignorant people think. It still is a tool for spiritual growth, but not if you don't understand the first step, stop listening to ignorant cowards or caring what they think about you or about anything, after all they are ignorant and cowardly. If you need to care and i hope you do, then learn to care about the truth and drop caring about what the people think who diabolically oppose it. FYI truth don't need confirmation by ignorance, truth stands on its own, so you better align with it because it will not budge for you, it is impersonal, it don't care about you personally, it don't play favorites, you either align with it, or you don't. But if you don't then beware it WILL still be there like a rock, bashing you in the head if you understand that is what happened or not, if you care about it happening or not, if you like it happening or not.
In my limited experience, I've come to realise that Letting Go is also necessary when it comes to interact and connect with people. Often times, our mind, heart and ego build up desires and fantasies to have a certain kind of relationship or exchanges with the people around us. But not everything is in your control. Having a sense of continued detachment while still carrying out your duties and responsibilities towards them is the best way to live I can think of. And above all, to have no expectations, which is actually very hard to do. But one way various spiritual and religious paths advise us is to be concerned to be only of service towards them. For in only giving, without expecting anything back, we don't easily build up expectations waiting to be unfulfilled.
I agree, keeping only genuine people and be surrounded by people who has nothing but good intentions to you will not only give you peace of mind, but a flow of good things from a product of a good mindset.
I agree 100%. Also, never ever give away your power and autonomy. Being independent, self-reliant, and free is the most important thing in the world. If you let others take power and control over you, if you care too much and are dependent on what other people think of you, you are doomed. And at the end of the day, you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. But I guess you would be rather damned if you do.
This is a well thought out reply to the video. Minimalism can be practiced on many levels including emotional and physical etc. Logical thinking & methodological approach to life naturally support a minimalist lifestyle. As mentioned, our personal autonomy/ self-determination is perhaps the most important factor in achieving a life lived purposefully/responsibly/effectively.
YEs 10 years ago, I discovered minimalists. I sold my car, my furniture and give away my clothes and shoes i didnt need. Oh what a feeling....I just have my guitar now, a small suicase of t shirts and shorts and a couple of work shirts and pants. I down graded my over paid overworked job......break up with my emotionally abusive relationship with a gorgeous but superficial woman for 3 years and moved to live in a nice apartment next to the beach in Sydney Australia and I love my life so much now. I canoe, I swim, snorkel, I cook great food, have a great friends.....laughing all the time, dancing etc.....its just the best. So much happier. And the best thing about it...............it has nothing to do with any GODS............I did it, I did it all for me...........no religious lies and their BS gods. Jsut me and the power within myself to make thing real for me. Try it for yourself.
I did the same about five years ago, I lived with a woman who could spend money in her sleep. Sold my house, bought a van that I live in, work when I want, go where I like, I have my Fender telecaster and an acoustic guitar, battery operated amp and a multitrack recorder, never been so happy. Their is something exciting about not knowing your future. Anything could happen. I wish you luck.
3:50, I agree with your pain points and perhaps you mention this... where it is best as a minimalist to buy more expensive things is when they are made better, last longer, and used/appreciated well. Keeping in mind not to conflate quality and branding... some items can be passed down for many generations, those we should invest in
Yes, I agree with you. Not all expensive things are status symbols. In many cases, they're of good quality and sustainable. I could have clarified this. Anyway, thanks for the feedback!

Yes. The better way to live our life is to spend more time with people that matters and by doing things we love and the easiest way to achieve that type of freedom is to let go our desires over material things.

I started adapting a minimalist lifestyle very recently, learning minimalist lifestyle right here on you channel and a ton of other has really inspired me, and for the few months that I have started I have really see a change not only on my perspective to life and all the things around me but also a chance to get to know myself better. Investigating NDE and trying to extrapolate from these experiences is not a logical and won't give you the answers you're looking for. To be clear, I don't have these answers and I can assure you that not because someone experienced delusion associated with NDE that he has them

Think about it:
The more you posses things, the more efforts you'll do to maintain them, the more time you'll spend just for taking care of trivial things, and the easier you'll lose track of everything. To simplify, the more you possess, the more troubles you'll have.
By keeping only the essentials in your life, you can shift your focus on the things that truly matter, and you'll be surprised by how much time are available to make the best out of your pasions and goals. That is the definition of freedom that you're looking for.
I produce self development and motivational videos in my channel , I want some honest opinions I am waiting for both positive and negative feedback ,
I agree! We are spending too much trying to maintain a lot of things - not only in the form of money, but we could be spending time as well. Freedom is having a lot of time for yourself and to all that matters.

King Solomon wrote about this in Ecclesiastes 1:14: :I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind."
As a king, Solomon had done and seen it all.

>

Nice video.
You're a natural... ! 👌
The simple life is a smart life. Want less, you will suffer less.

Just like attachment breeds possessions, so (needless) possessions breed attachment.
The key is to use your possessions, and not let them use you 💯
💯💯💯👍👍👍
It would be interesting challenge, to become enourmously rich with luxurious items without attachement to them.
That would be true way of life, abudance not greed, possesions not attachements to them.
Challenge accepted 8-) :P :D
Driving through an upper class suburb, you never see any life on backyard decks or swimming pools. I suspect these twenty room homes are almost always empty. What’s the point of “having” if you’re spending sixty plus hours/ week at your job but you can’t actually find the time to use the stuff you buy?
Happiness is being mesmerised by a passing train, sunrise/sunset, and above all the human touch. There is nothing more healing than the human touch (relationship, compassion, sharing, caring, hugging, kissing, etc…from the bottom of your heart and with sincere intentions

I this is 100% how I feel. I am not a slave to possessions. Im also not so stupid that i dont realize that money buys freedom. I would like to not work anymore. Period. I dont need a big house, cars, newest shit. I simply dont want to HAVE to work anymore

Sounds like I need to let go my job
This is a well thought out reply to the video. Minimalism can be practiced on many levels including emotional and physical etc.
Logical thinking & methodological approach to life naturally support a minimalist lifestyle.
