'This is especially true of us in the first world'. Did you just say this. FIRST WORLD. so white people in the western world created different worlds (I see you think you are in the first one, LOL ) Who made you God to put down other people in a xenophobic racist way to asset that other people, other countries are of a different world to your 1st world. I assume you mean 2nd or 3rd world because this is the term white westerners use to demonize, hate, and categorize people that look different to them with the inference that they are nothing more than uncivilized animals. How dare you?
Scaling your spending to match increases in income is one of the dumbest things one can do financially. Your ratio of investment and savings should grow bugger than your spending one when your income increases.
I have seen this IRL. A family member met and then married a guy from Africa. I was there visiting and met him several times when they lived in Africa. Relaxed, cool and happy dude, worked as a pool cleaner at a resort. Worked like 4-5 hours a day and had so little stress in his life. He had time to meet up with friends, take care of his child etc etc. He didnt make so much but it was enough to survive and be happy. He then moved to a western country and started working with caretaking of elders. Now he works 10-12 hours a day doesnt have time for friends and hardly any time for his kids. Sure he can send home some money but its still not enough to go around for everyone. When I met him told him he had a very nice life with much freedom and time to manage himself, he looked at me like I was crazy. Now he tells me that he understand what i meant.
Simplicity just shows that human beings are built with the intention of getting our basic needs satisfied, and the excess energy to be transferred to other human beings, animals or plants in need. That way our mission on this planet to preach and live love will be achieved.
How I appreciate these videos that always makes me keep thinking about how I' m living better according to my strong values, mental state and meaningful experiences. Nowadays, having less is my daily goal.
I always find looking at other cultures who live a more simple life helps open my mind to potentially happier, more fulfilling ways of living. It's easy to become one track minded when you're immersed in social media culture.
This video was the turning point for me. Moved to a small city in Morocco , started adopting a minimalistic approach to life ( slowly but surely ) . Very inspirational.
Thank you Einzelgänger for making my days better with your videos, your work helped me cure my depression, really. Can't thank you enough!! Lots of love from Philippines
In this day and age, my life has become complicated, especially my social and digital life. I always wondered how to simplify it somehow. Thank you for making this video!
The simple answer is to just let go of it. The complicated answer is to look at everything you do online and figure out which of it you benefit from and what helps you grow?
Just delete and delete and delete. Accounts, subscriptions, pictures, games, social media, delete everything. And if you really need or miss something, install it again or save it from the digital trash can... You will feel so relieved and free.
I have developed friendships with 3 squirrels. Each has a particular personality. I hand feed them walnut pieces and halves. But when the acorns start falling, that captures their attention. They have enriched my life.
Oddly enough, I kind of exemplified some aspects of minimalism before I knew the term. All I really need are the basics: food, clothing, shelter. Most of my wants are either accessible with the internet or spare cash (old video games played by ahem, "totally legit" means, the occasional fast food meal), are available for free or cheap (books from the library, visiting local events), or are things that money can't buy (being a hobby artist, keeping up with friends and family now and again as an adult). I don't like clutter in my apartment, and there's a surprising amount of space in my simple two-room. I tend to give away or sell things that are collecting dust. I only buy enough groceries that could fit into a backpack, which gives me good reason to walk more often. Ideally I'd use a flip phone (helps I'm a 00s-nostalgic fop and know I use the internet too much), but right now I'm still on a smartphone plan; when that expires though, cheap dumbphone it is. And before I got my current used Chromebook, there was a good appeal to just use the local library's computers if I had to go online for anything. I am incredibly lucky to have this opportunity and mindset, but like all things, it's not for everyone. And there's definitely days where I wish I wasn't broke much of the time. But personally, between getting by just fine with less stuff or having a silver spoon in my mouth (or being jealous of those who were) and being empty for it, I think I got the better deal.
Perfect Video as always EZ. In today's day & age, every person needs to remove excess baggage from one's life and embrace the idea of simplification. Both Sense and Simplicity are the two most significant aspects of our lives!
I avoid consumerism by realizing just which base instincts the advertisers are trying to arouse in me. Then I know that I am not that stupid. All commercials are manipulation...and I can't be sold.
I just love how this video is an amalgamation of all the past videos you have produce so far. Thanks again for this wonderful food for the thought Eizelgänger 🖤
I agree with @John Oakely. I'm very particular about people in my tiny social circle. I like people general, but not interested in being friends with many. I love my alone time so I appreciate not having visitors all the time. I've reduced my social media life from extremely busy to almost zero. I love it. I hate to say it aloud, but the lockdown was a nice time for me, too bad it had to come about from world-wide illness. Nobody talks about those of us who were NOT affected negatively emotionally or psychologically by lockdown. Living in a city, it was nice to have no social obliations, didn't run into neighbours, the streets were BEAUTIFULLY empty and quiet.
Same here. My life wasn't negatively affected at all. Wearing a mask actually saved me the energy I used to spend smiling and greeting. I don't think that I totally hate all ppl....I'm just happier without them. Does this make me a misanthrope??
This is one of the most important messages/ideas of our time. I hope more people discover a slower and intentional way of living. Thank you for producing this content!
I want to thank you for being a youtube channel that i value and gives nourishment to the mind. I used to have a full saturated youtube feed full of let's play, podcats, cheap flashy entertainment. I would feel like missing out so i would waste time on 30~40 min videos that would contribute to nothing in my life but slowly i became happy to ignore those videos and focus on those that would set me towards a path of self enrichment, like your channel.
Complicated thinking is perhaps one of the most difficult things that we have before us in this culture. It seems futile to live in a modern society and to live in such a way that life is a blur. We reach old age only to realize how short life is and how lacking the quality of our life has been. Most people seem discontent even though they literally have everything. To not be stuck in survival affords one a chance to look around and see what is truly meaningful.
@@mohanrao5176 I can not recall the precise quote but it says something as "a mindless individual is loud, where an intelligent individual is silent". You're right, but I hope we never stop having conversations with meaningful depth to make meaning of our lives..
I think having positive, meaningful clutter helps to fight the anxiety produced by the constructed world around us if we can't get back to nature enough. Otherwise we end up doing things like getting too many tattoos in order to deal with our shadow. Your mind doesn't exist in a vacuum in the present first world. You are a castle that's constantly being attacked. The more value you have, the more credit card offers you'll get in the mail; the more people want you to contract with them; the more people will want you in their herd; the more people will want to exploit you; Exploitation of resources is the real purpose of technology. Of course it's fear that keeps us in place, but realistically, most people aren't going to completely actualize, individualize, achieve nirvana, etc. People need frameworks that work for them. Then they need learn how to adjust those frameworks when they outgrow them.
Eve Lynn Wow! Again I'm very impressed with you. Either you are a college student taking psychology/ human behavior OR you are a wise old lady ( like me) masquerading as a young woman. Regarding this comment.... I'm poor but chose TWO charities to donate to. Six months later my mailbox is STUFFED most days with ppl and organizations wanting my money. My poor mailman. What's even devious is a lot of these orgs. try to disguise their monetary requests as something more important...like mail from a Gov. agency or a bulky package full of labels and or greeting cards hoping to guilt me into giving. It is ASTOUNDING!!
This video reflects the views that I've had for some time, but however much I try there's still too much clutter and some overthinking in these difficult times.
I have been in production (industrial) all my working life, making things faster for all the consumers out there, it amounted to a hole in the ground, where my work ended up. I myself, have always preserved my possessions, and always felt relaxed, by having constant about my being. Just my thoughts, on a excellent video, as usual. Peace be unto you.
Something glossed over when trying to be moderate is that with most products, social media included, they always want to increase the addictiveness of the product while reducing the quality (cost). So, when we outsource our food preparation, for example, we get less in return over time. With something like social media, what was once a useful tool become more addictive and with less useful content. The product changes, but our loyalty to that brand has only grown stronger. They get you to buy in, like promises from a politician, but things change after we've let them into our castle. What we were convinced was an asset turned into a vampire. However, we need to understand that it was a potential vampire all along because that is the system. If we can understand that these things happen, we can mitigate risk and take back some control over our lives.
How did you get SO SMART so young? I always thought I was a paranoid conspiracy nut when I began to notice the quality go down in my fav foods and alcohol. My favorite rye bread got airier, thinner, and tasteless. My fav brand of beer got lighter and less flavorful. Am I nuts?? I wondered. Thanks to you for helping me know I'm not crazy. ✌
The easiest way to become a minimalist is to move to a new home. My place and life used to be very cluttered and now my apartment looks just like the ones in the video. So much better.
I'm staying in the apartment but I have started process of getting rid of clutter. Including excessive amounts of everything. Packing it up and throwing things out everyday. Preparing for new carpeting and painting. My Kitchen Only has 2 plates , bowls etc. Oh yes I had a lot to get rid of but I did. My son is age 30 I will never make large casseroles again. Glad that I am doing it right now before I move in a couple of years.
Law of diminshing marginal utility also explains this very adequately. For eg. Rent an SUV for a trip of 10 days and enjoy, rather than buying one and paying emi. Most people don't need a high luxury car everyday... Clothes, electronic gadgets, eating out, going for holidays abroad when you have hardly explored your own country, and avoiding social functions or groups where you have to buy or stuff or change your lifestyle are some of the keys... Your partner in life should have the same thought process as well... You will get more joy sharing the simple ways of life. Walks or cooking in nature are the most underarted and amazing thing you can do or share..
I believe the best way of being alive & free is the constant strive towards balance between simplicity & material acquisition. Quality > quantity, less is more, everything & everyone in our life stays ever meaningful while we maintain a sincerely present state of mind for our own little slice of heaven here on Earth. That being said, two bathrooms is absolutely essential 😹💜
thanks...extremely important to spend digital time enhancing, stirring, interesting, uplifting, honest play...OMski the more moments spent 'in nature' or 'imagining or remembering nature' experiences we've had can, immediately, bring peace and ease to the entire system'...OMski
Reminds me of my only real vice (besided overthinking, lol), food! I'm a minimalist with my stuff, but I always think I need a substantial amount of food. I'm kind of a hoarder with food. I actually don't have a lot of food in my apartment, but I think too much about food and I use food for every emotional need, and, also (I figured out the other day) as a diversion so that I don't think. When I'm anxious I often seek food. It's a panacea for me. No wonder it's such a hard thing to overcome! Instead of dismissing it as trivial, I need to accept it's a big problem and I need help with getting it under control.
Over Eaters Anonymous or Weight Watchers. Both help with dealing with 'emotional eating'. You're an addict. You need help. Food addictions are difficult to break all by yourself. Group support is really helpful. You can do it! But remember that you are a worthy person who deserves love and respect JUST THE WAY YOU ARE. Go and do better ❤.

Great video, very insightful. I’m trying my best to adopt a minimalist lifestyle. I’m aiming to focus on the more important things in my life and getting rid of things that are not valuable. That also includes some people that I know.
I disagree with the intellectual aspects for lack of friendships, being one with a minimal life with a constant habit of reading and expanding on philosophy we are by nature social animals and often require at the very least one friend. 2 or 3 would be better since we’re likely to not develop unhealthy attachments but a good brotherly friend would either chase excellent, be loving and calm in presence with much humor breaks the tension away of taking life so serious.

Last thing I regret buying in that aspect was a smart TV. I've bad it for maybe 2 and a half years and realized I never turn it on cuz I use my old TV with my console that I also watch stuff on. I could get the latest console but I simply don't care to or desire to get caught up in them anymore.

This video on simplifying one's life is so true and necessary to hear
Thank you Einzelgänger for making my days better with your videos, your work helped me cure my depression, really. Can't thank you enough!! Lots of love from Philippines
Thank you for your donation, Ley! And glad to hear that the videos were beneficial to you!
In this day and age, my life has become complicated, especially my social and digital life. I always wondered how to simplify it somehow. Thank you for making this video!
The simple answer is to just let go of it. The complicated answer is to look at everything you do online and figure out which of it you benefit from and what helps you grow?
Delete all social media except RUclips!
@@zombiefriend p
I am curating my RUclips subscriptions to those that truly inspire me; your channel is one that I am keeping.
Perfect Video as always EZ. In today's day & age, every person needs to remove excess baggage from one's life and embrace the idea of simplification. Both Sense and Simplicity are the two most significant aspects of our lives!
Thank you, Einzelganger, for these mentally nutritious videos that you make for us to feed our minds. Peace.
Good summary! When I crave something I imagine as realistically as possible that I already have it. This helps me know if I really want it.
Finding buyers remorse without the remorse, is what I call it.
Thanks for this insight.
I avoid consumerism by realizing just which base instincts the advertisers are trying to arouse in me. Then I know that I am not that stupid. All commercials are manipulation...and I can't be sold.
Simplicity is extremely important for happiness. The quality of friends is way better than the quantity of friends. It's called social minimalism.
I love how you simplify everything and make it easy to understand.
minimalism has made such big difference in my life. like anything we can take it too far but it's all about being in touch with your reasons.
I’m happy, that my childhood had plenty of time without too much clutter.
Thank you for helping me to simplify my love.....that gives meaning to my life and make my life worth it🙏🙏🙏
Listening to this to help me organize or let go of stuff I don’t need and give away some of my stuff to The Salvation Army. Thank you.
The less friends I have raises the quality of the friendships I do keep.
With the rising costs of living. This videos really helps me.
It would be such a surreal experience to have a cup of coffee with someone with such intellectual depth 😌
The intellectual depth might make them a social minimalist. Then the cup of coffee might not happen.
@@mohanrao5176 I can not recall the precise quote but it says something as "a mindless individual is loud, where an intelligent individual is silent". You're right, but I hope we never stop having conversations with meaningful depth to make meaning of our lives..
Back in the 80s, I was belittled for non-striving, thrift, and prioritizing rest. Now it's called "minimalism" - a sought after art.
Wow. That is crazy
You're a bum
FOMO comes to mind when watching this. Fear of missing out.
I´m never tired to watch this.

Wow!
The other term that we can use is Informational Hygiene.
Just consume information selectively and keep your consciousness clean and sparkling
Just like that....🌍
This video reflects the views that I've had for some time, but however much I try there's still too much clutter and some overthinking in these difficult times.
Thanks bro...I have been leading a normal, simple and minimalistic life for a long time and your guidance has helped me a lot..
I love that "simplicity!" Thank you for this video! ❤️🙏
I've just embraced frugal minimalism. I done need to buy hardly anything like clothes shoes etc as I have enough to last the rest of my life.
@@joannaedwards6325 well stop drinking beer, you will get fatter if not already!

Excellent video, I’m continually simplifying my life.
Lol. Two bathrooms. 👍 agreed.
2 BR should be the minimum.
I'm going back to school this year in a room school 11m2 so it inspires me a lot as a french student
thanks...extremely important to spend digital time enhancing, stirring, interesting, uplifting, honest play...OMski
the more moments spent 'in nature' or 'imagining or remembering nature' experiences we've had can, immediately, bring peace and ease to the entire system'...OMski
I have always enjoyed your videos. It helps me stay grounded. I am an italian living in North america and I find that I am just over cluttered with to much here and I cant stand this.

It’s important to remember our natural insticts can adapt to pursue more complex goals but be wary, this can cause suffering and more conflict than is necessary, so it’s important to be mindful of the activities you engage in and remember we’re constantly evolving.

Great video, very insightful. I’m trying my best to adopt a minimalist lifestyle. I’m aiming to focus on the more important things in my life and getting rid of things that are not valuable. That also includes some people that I know.
I appreciate the simplicity of your approach!
I disagree with the intellectual aspects for lack of friendships, being one with a minimal life with a constant habit of reading and expanding on philosophy we are by nature social animals and often require at the very least one friend. 2 or 3 would be better since we’re likely to not develop unhealthy attachments but a good brotherly friend would either chase excellent, be loving and calm in presence with much humor breaks the tension away of taking life so serious.
thank you. greetings from Brazil
