Well done, dude ... great job !!!
Do you happen to know how to make Google Calendar a desktop calendar on Windows on one's PC?
You know what, I think your youtube channel should have over 10000 view, probably the promotional is not enough, but i watched several your video and it is "to the point" and efficient! I don't need to watch 1 hour to get one message or useful trick. You deserve more good-rating.
So much better than the Google videos and you deliver them slowly enough to sink in, unlike the speed breaking tap.tap.tap
.then.simply push..thanks Steve!
Thanks for the great tip. I am new to Gmail and still a bit leery about using it fully but getting more comfortable every day. Thanks again.
Awesome tool/technique!! Thank you.
Thanks for your good advice. Really helps
that was so clear and lots of fun, thank you so much Steve :-)
Great Tip...this is Super-Useful...I go crazy receiving "tons" of unwanted mail and I fully intend to reorganize my Gmail setup! Thanks
Great information for Gmail users like myself, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Steve. You are a good guy.
You seriously helped me out there, I didn't have a clue about most of that
At one time I had two Twitter accounts linked to the same Gmail account by removing the dot between my first and last names, and I thought this was the height of sophistication. But appending markers to the basic address as you do here, to identify the source of incoming mail, is where it's at. Thanks for explaining this.
***** No worries Shawn, I think it is one of the coolest Gmail tricks!
Thank you for sharing this information!
Marvellous about the email with +news extra part.. OMG I am so going to do this!!
Wow, just found you. Great videos.
Thank you very much love the info extremely useful
Great tip... Thanks much!
Another great Dotto's great work :)
Thank you namesake ;)
fantastic, tnx for sharing man :)
great tip for saving time and increasing productivity
Yes! love you man. no more manually labeling.
Great idea...can't wait to use it!
So to add the + and filter to existing newsletters etc, I log into those accounts and change my contact email to the newly created ( Kevin Caruso, ***** etc ) right?
Thanks! What a great video, how very helpful!
How do you get the color tags in the incoming email? So when multiple emails are used and you want to know which one there sent in it too?
I have used this address extension for a year of more, like a password for people businesses. I always give my email as {myemailroot}+{their name} and have a filter for every extension I give out. If they share their '+xxxx' I can cut them off by changing the filter to trash any further email from them. Most email with out the '+xxxx...' is filtered to trash already, & all my (~35) organizations emails are prefiltered to my inbox folder for that organization, so I usually have only 1 or 2 emails in my root inbox/day. (If I did not do this, I would get about 150 spams/day!)
I'd like to do this, too... however, per my internal testing... when give my email as {myemailroot}+{their name}@gmail.com, although it will be delivered to my inbox/filter as demonstrated, should I "REPLY" to their email, they receive my email from {myemailroot} NOT the desirable {myemailroot}+{their name}, thus should they re-respond, the {myemailroot}+{their name} gets lost and it gets delivered directly to {myemailroot}.
Should they share their {myemailroot}+{their name}, although I can filter them as trash, as they've discovered my "real" {myemailroot}, they can continue sharing that with others.
BOTTOM LINE: Is there a way that one's REPLY to an email sent to {myemailroot}+{their name} be SENT "FROM" {myemailroot}+{their name}, versus {myemailroot} ?
Thx!
Amazing, thanks a lot
It worked great for me, thanks !!
Great stuff. Well done.
a very cool tip. thanks
Steve, I noticed you uploaded this video almost two years ago and I wondered if Google change the way it treat address with + or . extensions? I tried to register myself for newsletter using my "email+news.com" from one of my sites and got the message Invalid email address then I tried "email.news.com" this time it went through but never seen it in my inbox. Thanks for the great education!
great to learn from your videos.
well want to learn how to make newsletters. please provide link of video if you made it already. thanks
Cool tip, Thanks :)
Hey Sam
those tools come from a GTD thermed ad on called Active Inbox
HI Steve. Love your demo's and am learning a lot of great stuff on how to work with gmail. But I am having a real challenge getting some of it to work on MY gmail. The label colours don't show for one thing, nor can I consistently import the mail from a secondary gmail account i have, into my primary account. Sometimes it comes in, sometimes it doesn't (so the setting must be correct!), but if it is not consistent then I cant trust it and so once again am going back and forth between accounts. Is there a way to update my gmail? Perhaps I've got an older version or something? I'm stumped. Thanks for videos you put out! Love em!
Is there a simple way to change the filter later? I used to do something like this with Outlook. If an address got onto a spamming list, I'd just add the address to my first filter, which screened by destination address and deleted messages.
Thanks dottotech, does this mean gmail reads possible sensitive emails as well?
Love your videos, sir. Keep it up!
I use Camtasia Studio. Can you explain how you use a video of you and the screen at the same time? thank you, Mark
That's cool. The drawback is that if you use many different emails (+news, +spam, +tech, ...) you won't be able to remember which one you used and you may not even be able to remember your login by providing your email
Same login, it is the same account
dottotech Yes, but not when the email is also the login, which is quite common :)
Are you able to explain or point me in the right direction to find out how to change the scrolling of emails, the newest email in a thread is currently at the bottom, I would like it changed to be at the top if possible. Thanks in advance.
Great info as always! Thanks
Bobbie Hennessy
His court date at the first time you I got a bottle whenever your a no how you could ask m
That's because the "." doesn't work like the "+" does. You can, however, use it in the middle of your 'core' email address and they are ignored. So something like dotto.tech.demo would be delivered to dottotechdemo.
I do have to say that none of this is new. Gmail has had this built in for years now (if not from the beginning).
Steve GREAT VIDEO ... BUT ... you forgot to mention that all these unique addresses also serve as your login for many of the newsletters/retailers or most offensive, the political fund raisers. To interact with these sites you have to remember all the gibberish you put after your regular email just to log in to those services. Usually there is a "Forgot Password" process to get around this but once forgotten there may be some places you can no longer turn off. Just a caution would be nice for the folks. In the meantime, Google FORMS would be a great place to keep track of all these off the wall emails you use.
Thanks!
Great program
You helped me a lot! thanks so much!
Jozef Matyasek I am glad you find the videos helpful!
Cool tip!
Great video and thanks, I will definitely use this capability. Brad
Thank you, i just have to obsorb the concept!
OMG! I am in love! Your stuff is great! Thanks for simplifying all this tech stuff! My tech struggles will be diminished greatly! Cheers!
+DIVA Studios I am so glad you found us! Welcome aboard!
ola and help needed
I do like the asterisk tip in Google Maps though
great tip!!! how Google did not tip us to that?
How do you do all this (apart from the filter)?
What is funny is that I knew this but forgot. I went through the trouble of getting an additional email address just for this kind of junk and forgot about the filtering. Sheeesh. Just another way is to use a service called "spamgourmet". Using that service gives you a little better way to hide from the spammers. With that free service, you give out a disposable email address which contains a maximum number of emails you are willing to receive and it forwards them to you. Usually two or three so you can get the signup link and welcome emails will do it. After that, "spamgourmet" eats all future emails and they just go to grandpa's farm in the country to play with all the other spam. The big advantage is for those sites that sign you up for "newsletters" in order to get what you want then you have to follow up with a trip back there to unsubscribe.
Is this app only working with gmail as per mailbox or does it work also with other imap servers?
Great day of productivity with dottotech Thank you for the informative videos. I am learning some real cool features!
***** :-)
Thank you Steve that was so helpful.
You are most welcome Joan, it is a cool trick is it not?

Sneaky! Love it.
what stops the company from figuring out that "+news" is at the end of your regular email and adding that email to their newsletter?
Pretty cool
In the past I have been using the extension ‘+spam’ in my address and been told that it was an invalid address. I suspect they have setup an algorithm that attempts block my attempt to filter garbage out of my inbox. Perhaps I will try something sneakier like like ‘.smith’ extension.
Steve, this was an awesome instructive video, idk I could do this and lately I've been to busy to even try to keep up with my two email addresses. I even wonder now of Yahoo has this, now that I know.
I don't think Yahoo has this.
Melanie Everett has
Of all the tutorials I have watch yours rank at the very top.
Steve, once again you were superb in providing useful information.
I like the way you explain things so I can be proficient. THANK YOU
Nancy Warnars I
I will try to get back
Amazing.
Thanks
Where are u from?
This saved me when I was trying to get an Apple account, and they already had my only Gmail address.
Bro Rat Awesome!
Sweet!
A very neat trick! I'm getting more in control.
Wow. I've learned more about gmails capabilities within the last 15 minutes of your videos, than I've ever known about gmail.Considering I juggle 3 gmail accts, I am sincerely impressed. And yes I did subscribe! Keep up the great work!
Welcome aboard Karen Voss Looking forward to your feedback!
Thanks, I don't think anyone else has ever welcomed me aboard before :)
Your gmail vid was awesome. I'm heading over to YT to check out more and prob subscribing! Thanks
Glad to hear it Karen Voss
Thanks again!
Just tested this on my (free) google apps account and works great!
Great when you want to have students in your class sign up for a service--they each get their own email address!
Interesting use Kathleen Emhof I had not thought of that
Hi how do you get your platform of gmail to look like that (white) I don't like the way it looks not themes or backround but like the face of it.
very nice to know this feature, Thanks
Bobby Thomas It is cool!
You not suppose to tech this steve, how am i suppose to build an email list when people dont look at my awesome ness, lol
I never fought of that, Steve, be more awesome?
cool one
Not always "+" (and other signs) is accepted when giving my email while registering online for anything.
thanks alot for the great information
great info! but the 'dot' character in our gmail addy was poorly explained. the video seemed to indicate that the dot acts like a plus as demonstrated. but dots/periods/full-stop characters (all the same character with just different names) are simply removed. so a.b.c@gmail.com is the same as ab.c@gmail.com and abc@gmail.com.
humilulo Thanks for clarifying!
Is there a way to do this with google apps (docs/sheets) notification tools in the same way? (i.e. I receive automated notification from google when docs are updated by collaborators, but always sends notifications to default email).
David Maxwell I am not sure if you can, because all the addresses point to the same account, can you change a setting anywhere for the notification? I could not find a way.
Steve. What is the best way to email you a question. I have business office PC. Home PC. iPhone and iPad. I want to share my business docs. Tried google. drive. Didn't like. The fact edits were done in google doc if in using mic word. Haven't tried Dropbox. Also want a good way to have project management for jobs. And calendar and assign jobs. Little help would be great. Good work. Steve
There is contact info on my website, in the "About us" section
Can you Compose e-mails using the dottotechdemo+news in a way that and people reply to you, you will also be able to filter it?
Only if you give the the full (with the +####) email address to reply to davipaschoal
new sub. love this
Steve I need to share this video with my clients is that ok. This is google earth shattering stuff.
this way very helpful.
Paul Shook
now I can delete my 4 additional gmail emails!!! thanks so much!
i think many of google offerings are fine if you do not value your privacy
I advertise apartments on Craigslist. From time to time people edit the responses and it makes it difficult to figure out which apartment ad they are responding to. Is there a way to do this in Craigslist without having a half dozen different accounts with them?
I'm thinking you would just put some text in the Craigslist post to indicate which apartment it is, like a code word, and then set up a filter in Gmail to sort based on that word. Eg., apartment 43 means mci43 (my code is 43). Whatever you want to make up.
The "industry" seems to have gotten hip to this feature so many times when I try using this the email is flagged by the recipient as "invalid" and won't let me subscribe or whatever I'm trying to do. Is there any magic fix for this?
KailuaKid619 Really? that is interesting, so registration systems are parsing them out! I am going to look into it, thanks for the heads up!
Thanks Steve, heard about this... what if you are using Gmail for business @company.com and not @gmail.com, does it still work?
I am adds and so,
+dottotech it does work for Business gmail too!
I can't at all .James
How do you tag the different account names?
it is in the video, with punctuation plus an identifier +Robert Matthewes
Great post.
Just tried the trick with a dot(.) and it didn't work. However the plus(+) works. Has Google made a change?
A J Dimaculangan not that I know of, did you accidently add a space as well?
the dot is ignored, so you can put it anywhere. tomjones@gmail.com== tom.jones@gmail.com== t.o.m.j.o.n.e.s@gmail.com. The plus leaves out the following letters when routing. gmailblog.blogspot.com/2008/03/2-hidden-ways-to-get-more-from-your.html
Search my email accounts and looked at the Spam listing, Hundreds, most porn some ads and found some non spam. How can i add filter without loggin to all these site addresses individualy?
I'm not sure why you would want to, if they're being handled the spam I would just leave it alone
Thanks but gmail only deletes after 30 days or so I get hundreds per week. Many from same source, too hard to block with each one. Wanted a check box that would delete and block, like "delete all". You know something simple for us old folks.
Amazing capabilities! It stinks to have hundreds of emails looking at you every morning. this is great! let me know how it works for you!
Bossy when it was google who messes up way more than me.
Google play store blamed me for getting hacked after many hours Google admitted it was there device.
I like this tool but I would like to have seen a more in-depth use with this, such as you receiving news-letter mail and it going directly into that folder you setup. I Just made several email account so I could get better organized but with this process this sounds like something I would be able to use with one email, do you have product on the market that explain this in deeper details? I want to have a section for paid products such as music recording software, and then another section for paid product such as music hardware, In other words I don't want all my music related stuff going into the same folder, I'm extremely ocd about that. Thanks in advance dottotech. Also after doing a hour of research on this video, I am wondering how did you use another the dottoemail email but receive the email inside of your info at dottotech.com email, do you have this email merge?
Did u ever find out the answer?
This guy is nuts all over the place! I just saw a goofball picture of him with his right hand in his jeans pockets, and his left hand under his chin as if he were sitting and resting his left elbow on a table -- but he's actually standing. It looks so unnatural that my first brain reaction was "Why is that guy punching himself in the face?!?" I really don't like his advice. Very unscientific and there are many videos of him using technically-ancient software tools while praising them. In this video he doesn't even bother to give an example of how mail filtering with the plus sign could be handy (but he throws out the idea that it's good for subscriptions or blogs or whatever, as if we know exactly what he is talking about )
Are you using gmail? the convention of
"yourname"+anythinghere@gmail.com
should work.
Hi Steve,
Great video! I consider myself a g-mail power user and this was news to me.
Question: Does this system save steps when compared to having the email come in normally, locating it, creating a label, then filter (or filtering the label to an existing email)?
If I have a preset group of categories, should I go and set them up first; then use the relevant naming conventions when using myemail+news@gmail.com function?
I would think the only way it saves steps/time in the process is by having these labels&filters predefined before you subscribe or opt in with those special email addresses.
Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Chris Harati I don't know if it saves steps, but it does allow you to create new categories on-the-fly, I look at these addresses as perfect for more temporary use, where filters I think of as long term solutions, but that is my system.....
dottotech Thanks for getting back to me so soon Steve!
Totally makes sense about it being more "on the fly" but it's definitely awesome. I can't tell you how many times I opt in to stuff with the intention of it being a one-off thing. I'm going to start trying this out today.
I'll share your video on my facebook page too.
Thanks again!
"+news" does not work for me.
