  • Russia has faced weeks of military defeats in Ukraine, but today brought a reminder its military is still able to cause substantial destruction.
    (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
Overnight, and again this morning, the city of Zaporizhzhia suffered a series of missile attacks, including a direct strike on a residential apartment building.
The strikes raised concerns for the nearby nuclear power plant, leading to a warning from the International Atomic Energy Agency that an accident there is "a very clear possibility".
This report contains images some viewers might find distressing.

I find the nuclear option best used as a deterrent, as a looming threat never actually deployed, once you start deploying it you remove the fear people have of you using it and you bring about calls for immediate action to stop you from continuing to use it, it's fairly easy for NATO to legitimize full-scale preemptive nuclear retaliation on the basis that Putin is deranged and firing nukes out of control.
North Korea would be much scarier if people didn't know exactly what they have and how it works, Russia currently enjoys some of that effect, if they start deploying nukes they will lose it and odds are whatever they have the USA has double

He mentions nukes in his threatening speeches to scare us because he despairs. Does he really want his Kremlin to become radioactive dust in no time? I doubt it. "preemptive nuclear retaliation" is a contradiction of terms.

From what I read recently, here's something to think about, before deciding to play with fire.
Inside the $100 Billion Mission to Modernize America’s Aging Nuclear Missiles
BY W.J. HENNIGAN/LINDBERGH, WYO. | PHOTOGRAPHS BY BENJAMIN RASMUSSEN FOR TIME
      SEPTEMBER 13, 2022
If a piece of equipment breaks inside Captain Kaz “Dexter” Moffett’s underground command center at the Alpha-01 Missile Alert Facility, it’s marked with a paper tag that reads either “warning” or “danger.” A few of those are hanging in this cramped capsule buried about 70 ft. below the high plains of eastern Wyoming. One is stuck to the shut-off valves that control water flow in the event of an emergency. There’s another one on a ventilation hatch. The entire command capsule itself is jury-rigged on top of steel stilts because the shock-absorber system, which was first installed in 1963 to survive a thermonuclear blast, is now inoperative. So there’s a tag for Air Force maintenance teams to fix that too.
Then there are malfunctions that aren’t marked. Moffett’s computer monitor-the one that enables him to keep watch on a fleet of 10 nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs)-has a flashing glitch on the bottom of the screen. His classified phone line has such a weak connection that he can barely hear fellow Air Force officers who are commanding more than 100 other nuclear missiles spread across 9,600 sq. mi. “You can hear them pretty clearly if you stand on an angle, on one leg, and jump up and down,” Moffett says, smiling. “It’s all part of the job. We spend a lot of time saying to ourselves, ‘Hey, how are we going to make this work today?’”
Walking into Moffett’s capsule at Alpha-01 is like walking into the past. Banks of turquoise electronics racks, industrial cables, and analog controls have been down here since the U.S. military installed the equipment decades ago. Look closely at the machines and you’ll find names of manufacturers like Radio Corp. of America, defunct since 1987, and Hughes Aircraft Co., defunct since 1997. Some systems have been updated over the years, but these advances are unrecognizable to anyone who lived through the personal-computer revolution, let alone the internet age. The entire ICBM fleet runs on less computational power than what’s now found inside the smartphone in your pocket. When something breaks, the Air Force maintenance crews pull parts from warehouse shelves, pay a contractor to make them to specifications, or even occasionally scavenge them from military museums.
      ...

However, to the commentors I would like to add that the people filming this probably aren't just standing idly by because they have no conscience or anything like that.
I would recommend reading "War Photographer" by Carol Ann Duffy to those who do not know how this all works and what this kind of work involves or what kind of effect videos and photos of such places and having to take these videos and places of war zones and areas of disaster, famine, etc. have on both the audience and those workers that are behind this. Very sad although in a way expected with how them Russians have been with hitting Residential housing and such likes ..Felt for the poor woman who lost her daughter in a blast and very evil regime without a thought at all for ordinary people who dont even want any war ..Russia should not be allowed any more power so as they can carry on with building again more and more weapons of mass destruction ..World should keep them down after this is over with .

Oct 6 A four-member SpaceX Crew Dragon team,
including a Russian cosmonaut woman sent to orbit,
safely docked with the International Space Station (ISS)
on Thursday and moved aboard to begin a five-month science
mission. The inclusion of Kikina, the lone female cosmonaut
in active service with the Russian space agency Roscosmos,
was a sign of continuing U.S.-Russian cooperation
in space despite escalating tensions between Moscow
and Washington over the war in Ukraine
and we want to know why.
