- CCTV footage released by Ukraine's President Zelensky shows the moment a missile strikes a shopping centre in Kremenchuk.
The death toll from Monday's strike has risen to 20 while dozens of people have been injured.
Russia claimed a strike on an arms storage facility detonated ammunition which set the nearby shopping mall on fire.

A shopping mall, train station, multiple apartment buildings... I'm noticing a trend. It's suspicious enough that these sophisticated missiles, known for their accuracy, keep missing their targets. When the "unintended" targets start following a tend, I think it's reasonable to conclude these aren't accidents.
What's the ratio? One, one, "multiple". That's 3+.
How many have been fired and did hit the target?
If it's 100 then the low end is 4% of missiles were off target. I feel like more than 100 have been fired.
What's the common rate of missing targets with these systems?

@@yodieyuh6077 The Kh-22 missile was introduced in 1962, and has an "accuracy" of 2-5 kms. It was originally intended to carry a nuclear warhead, so missing by a kilometer or two wasn't a problem. Deploying them against targets in civilian neighborhoods is reckless to say the least.

Russia multiple versions of what happened when it cannot deny the fact. i.e its low end missile hit a shopping mall and that is a war crime.

Obfuscate reality to confuse people and make things ambiguous and then after a while people just forget. I would say that a giant shopping centre which in the various videos of it being blown up looks like it's made up of metal using lots of right angles. Which would probably be a rather high contrast target compared to other things on the ground (though i'll admit them ISO containers might muddy the contrast).
Also none of it answers your bigger question over why on earth an anti-ship missile is 300km from the sea, or why such a ridiculous missile is being used against a stationary low value and likely minimally defended target...

Actually there are exist satellite photos of the shopping mall after hit. The crater is outside.
I asked question just to leverage thoughts about this hit, while I knew the answer before my first comment.
Zelenski said there were a 1000 people in that mall. In the aftermath video of the firefighters arriving the mall parking lot is virtually empty except for a few cars. What makes more sense Russia fired a cruise missile at a small empty mall or at the Kredmash factory next to the mall where western weapons were being stored as the Russian Ministry of Defense reported. The explosion damaged and set the mall on fire. Russia is destroying military targets just as it has been in the Donbas where the Ukraine army has been fighting from civilian buildings, cutting holes in the walls of people's apartments in apartment buildings so they can move quickly on the level to different windows and fire weapons and digging defensive trenches right through the middle of tiny villages.
The UN report on Ukraine that is updated weekly said from the start of the conflict Feb 24 to 27 June 4,731 Ukraine civilians have died. This should be considered regarding claims of targeting civilians.
(The US killed 6,000-7,000 Iraqi civilians in just the first 2 months of operation Shock and Awe 2003. And 387,072 civilians have died violent deaths as a direct result of the U.S. post-9/11 wars. Apparently 15 - 20 people were killed depending on what source you read, Thats is a huge discrepancy if you consider there were 1000 people in the mall when it was directly hit by a 1000kg missile.

The biggest tragedy of targeting civilians to force the other side to come to terms is that if they DO come to terms to stop the targeting of civilians, they will effectively have legitimized the targeting of civilians in the first place.
As horrible and painful as it is, people saying Ukraine should come to terms with Russia to save civilians are wrong. You can not do that. No one wants civilians to die, but effectively legitimizing it will have deeper and further reaching problems.
Though it is cold comfort, the fact Russia resorts to this shows Russia is desperate. Russia is acknowledging through their actions that they failed.

You can see the shopping center at 3:18 in the top right above the treeline, to the left of the telephone wire tower thing(it's the little brown square). And if you look at the treeline you can see a straight gray line running behind the trees(that's the roof). You can also see the missile landing just behind that treeline, right next to the top of the building. And maybe there weren't actually 1,000 people in the supermarket, it could've been less. Plus the building looks huge, and the missile didn't seem to create a giant explosion so maybe it only damaged a tiny part of the supermarket. It's also possible it landed outside of the supermarket, not actually in/on it. Hopefully you now see how the shit adds up

Also you would see in the same video that there is no "small explosion" and as callous as this may sound a thousand people in a packed shopping mall hit by a missile designed to kill aircraft carriers? and only 18 dead? It would be more believable if they reported that a grenade was used.

The 'shopping mall' destroyed turns out to be an industrial complex behind the shopping mall. And that shopping mall was closed for 4 months before the strike. I wonder what civilians are doing shopping in a shuttered mall

The ammunition depot was strategically placed near a shopping centre. Maybe because of convenience. I am sure elenski is so disappointed because no more people were killed. He expected hundreds. The goal is to fight to the last Ukrainian.

I’m confused, I’ve watched two videos of the explosion. The first was from a series of security footage cameras around a public park and lake with a pagoda in the middle. You can see this pond on Google earth. Next to the pond is a big factory. You can see from one of those camera angles the missile hits the factory. Then this video…you can see the video was recorded from the factory and you can see the missile hits just the other side of the wood line. This wood line is unmistakable. Yet when you look at the shopping mall on Google earth you cannot see the woods nor can you see the pond? Is someone trying to fool me?

It's not the shopping mall. It's a factory area which is next to the shopping mall. There's a video made by one Ukrainian official inside the shopping mall. One can clearly see lost of bottles standing on the shelves which means the shopping mall just caught on fire. Otherwise, the bottles would've been all broken and on the floor. Ukrainians used that factory warehouse as an ammo depot.
You have seen how the explosion blast broke the tree branches in the park although it was 500m away, but the bottles on the shelves in shopping center at ground zero still remain standing. Incredible?

So thats why over 14,000 have died in East Ukraine.

That’s what I thought at first, so did some calculations.
I have managed to pause the video at 1:23 and can see two images of the missile. The first image is clear and unblurred at the extreme top right, the second image (the one the BBC use) is just starting to form. We know this missile is 11.65 m long and can estimate it travels 26 m between frames. Assuming the camera is filming at 60 frames per second, we can estimate the missile is travelling at 5616 km/h (3466 mph) or 1560 metres per second.
Google says max speed of 5,600 km/h for this KH-22 missile.
Now to shutter speed:
@ 1/1000 sec the missile will travel 1.56 meters
@ 1/2000 sec the missile will travel 0.78 metres
@ 1/4000 sec the missile will travel 0.39 metres
If my 60 frames per second is estimate is right, it might explain the reasonably sharp missile image. Not the results I expected.
Someone suggested the video may be 25 frames per second, that would equate to 650 metres per second. Even easier to capture at 1/1000 sec - only 0.65 metres travel, even less at faster shutter speeds.
Does anyone else want to try to calculate?

Actually there was two explosions. IDK was it two missiles or else. And there is military repair facility 300 meters away from shopping center. Apparently they`ve just missed. I think the more important here is the bright idea to place military facility and working shopping mall when you are at war.

The only thing I can possibly think to comfort myself is that whoever was directly hit would never have known what hit them, it would have been so sudden their brain wouldn't have had time to even realise. The missile covered the whole distance within 3 frames. Even downplaying the distance covered in the footage to 150m, the resulting speed would be 1500 m/s with a 30 FPS footage, which is a very realistic speed for a missile. (Roughly Mach 4.3). So, it didn't have to be a particularly good camera for it to capture the missile.
@Ed Straker that depends on the shutter speed. Please remember that shutter speed and FPS are very different things. Considering the amount of light there is, I wouldn't be suprised to see 1/2000s shutter speeds, if not faster.
Are you seriously using the camera quality/shutter speed as an argument. It is not uncommon for even a regular warehouse to have 4k cameras nowadays, and their shutter speeds are even better than the one shown here + they cost like 150 euro.

The people that were killed and injured were probably hit by shrapnel and debris in the steel yard or repair works adjacent to the shopping centre. I saw a missile on the clear sky, huge blast and noise that came from hell. Parts of the missile(with depleted uranium) could be found all around the place 1km away. A good neighbour, a woman lost her only son, Oleg at the age of 27. He was on the bridge at the moment when bridge felt down. We were all very sorry for him and his mother. His father is Ukrainian living in Serbia.
