- The world faces "probably the most dangerous" decade since the end of World War Two, Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned.
Speaking after a series of military defeats in Ukraine, he sought to justify Russia's invasion which has left his country internationally isolated.
Mr Putin is also facing growing public anger at home over his drive to mobilise around 300,000 Russians for the Ukraine war effort.
Mr Putin accused the West of nuclear blackmail against Russia. The West has denounced recent veiled nuclear threats by the Kremlin.
The Nato military alliance recently condemned claims by Russia that Ukraine might use a "dirty bomb” - meaning conventional explosives laced with radioactive material.
Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg rejected the suggestion and said "Russia must not use it as a pretext for escalation".

Fear is a powerful tool and this man knows it better than most. I live relatively close to his "kingdom" and I do worry about what the psychopathic maniac is going to do next, but I refuse to become a slave to my fear. On most days I even manage to "forget" the prospect of suffering from a nuclear fall-out or of witnessing a war on my doorstep. I do not repress or reject reality but I try not to get frightened or depressed. That's my plan for now.

Practically all politicians need to compromise. The US and NATO need to give up expansion and hegemony, and Russia needs to give up territorial demands. But the funny thing is that none of them would. Because they are not the ones who go to the battlefield, they are not the ones who have no food, and they are not the ones who cannot afford hot water. No country's politicians are perfect, and my people are even in ridiculous confinement.
NATO is a defense organization it is not an invasion force. If a country wants to join that is their wish and if Russia didn't threaten it's neighbors these neighbors would not feel a need to join NATO.
