pro tip, use an usb extension to position the dongle far from the heat exhaust, and also put it in a position where it has a clear path with the headphone, knock two birds with one stone, well three if you consider the lower risk of front usb port damage taken out too
I’ve never experienced any problems with my headset by putting the dongle in the back, but I still stopped putting it back there. One day I was moving the PlayStation and felt how hot the dongle was. Figured I’d try to avoid a potential problem. Thanks for the info, now I know it was for the best to move it. 👊
You can also use a usb extention cable if you don'y want it in the front. A good usb cable is insulated so it will not draw as much heat from the vents to the dongle as it would wih the dongle near the vents.
Just get an extension cable to run the dongle from behind to the front so you shouldn't have a heat problem and the danger of someone hitting it in the front would be solved too.
For the price they really should build the dongle's wireless signal component into the PS5. Extra cost not everyone might need, but they also put the PSVR PS5 adapter cable in the box of every PSVR after a certain point too. It would just be a nice touch at any rate.
That’s exactly what I do. I bought the steel series Arctis 1 and it actually came with an extension cable which is great. But I use it for a different reason. The dongle for the headset plugs into the usbc port on the front but the shape of the dongle blocks the other USB port lol
Informative video. I have encountered interference issues in relation to external hard drives in neighbouring USB ports previously. Research has shown the 2.4hz signals can be interrupted by USB ports. My fix for this was to buy a short USB extension cable, plug the dongle into that and your interruptions should stop. Thought I'd just share this for anyone encountering similar issues.
Alternatively, you could use a USB cable/adapter that you plug into the rear port and hide under the PS5 where it's out of sight, or somewhere else where it's easier for the headphones to pick up the signal. You can plug the dongle into it. (This might be optimal for steelseries 7+ users.) This way you don't have to use the front port and you won't accidentally damage the PS5.
I literally just retired my Pulse 3D headset and got the Artis 7P+ headset from Steelseries lol And it’s a big upgrade But damn it this got me worried I HATE having things plugged into the front of the console
Sounds to me more like a wireless signal issue than anything else, as a rule of thumb, you want those RF transceivers to be in direct line of sight and in close range, as they usually don't have good antennas (to save cost, space and have better aesthetic for the most part, people just don't like an antenna sticking out, even though it's still the most viable effective solution) and these devices usually have to operate in high RF noise environment (a lot of devices operating in the same frequency allocation) so the range is usually a lot more limited than people anticipated.
No because I use a wired headset plugged into the back of my PS5 and it literally melted the cord. It’s definitely a heat issue. The internet is riddled with people experiencing this issue
The front usb A port is slower and provides less power than the front usb c and 2 back usb A. This is why it cuts out sometimes for people in the front
It’s also common to have external hdd’s or ssd’s plugged to the back, this interferes with the audio as it starts to cut off. I have a small hub on the front regular usb to which I plug the cables to charge controllers, gold headset and it’s dongle. You can’t plug storage units on hubs and actually only one at a time works, and only on the USB ports on the back and the usb c on the front.
Ever since my Sony Platinum headphones stopped charging, even after I put in a brand new battery, I have been using my Sony WH-1000XM4s via my C1 tv's bluetooth. Now I do not need a dongle and the sound is great.
I have mine on the back, my pulse headset drops out quite a bit. I don’t want to put it on the front cause little hands will break it, may need to invest in a USB extender and blue tack it to the wall behind. Never even occurred to me it could be a heat issue.
hmmm well i haven't had any problems so far, i think ill just keep it in the back because it looks alot better and i wouldnt want to accidentally bump it but thanks for the info anyway. ill probably try this first if i ever have any audio problems
I plugged my Pulse headset in the back when the console first launched and it kept overheating and the dongle would shut itself off so the headset lost connection until I unplugged it and had it cool off. It seems like after some kind of firmware update last year it never overheated again and I've been using it plugged into the back ever since with no issues. I assumed it was maybe an issue with the USB port at the time, because my console isn't blocked in the back and when the dongle got hot, it was like it was internally hot and not hot from air getting blown on it
I also own the 3D headset and have occasionally heard something similar to static or audio breakup. It doesn't happen when I first start but after long sessions will I begin to experience static like noise and breakup.
I use it in the back. Not had any issues since launch. After you turn on the console from rest mode if the head set was charging then it might have trouble detecting the dongle but all you need to do it’s turn the head set off and then on again and it’s back in business and you can start gaming in no time.
Why did they only put one USB B port on the front? How else am I supposed to use a wireless headset with my wheel plugged in? Unless I got a hub but Ive had a hub before and it didnt work with certian things.
I use to have my dongle in the back and my pulse use to go in and out. When I figured that might be the problem and moved it to the front. It was super hot. I learned my lesson.
I was asking myself about that ! Thanks for the info... I got no issue so far but now I know it could be possible. And I don't understand why there's not at least 2 USB port in the front of the console :(
I had a similar situation where my PS5 heated up so much in the back that the headsets dongle casing slides rite off now. I can literally slide the dongle case off and expose the chip inside.
The question that really needs answering is, is there or will there ever be a 3rd party dongle that you can use with the Sony Pulse headset. For all the people who've lost, broken or just don't have theirs. As Sony doesn't make/sell them.
I think I saw somewhere an instruction that said that audio things should be plugged to the front USB... Don't remember where I saw it but I've been using that port ever since
One issue I have experienced is the headphones audio cutting in and out during gameplay. I realized the issue was having my external hardrive connected next to the headphones dongle. Other than, the dongle works fine for me in the back of the console.
And for anyone who has unplugged the dongle after the PS5 has been running for some time, the USB part on the end gets very hot to the point where it can actually burn if you touch it.
Wow this make perfect sense because I have been experiencing this with my pulse 3D headset, recently moved the dongle to the front so hopefully that helps, thanks John and love your content bro
Can’t believe they don’t have people who test these designs..who builds a new gen console with a tiny hdd where’s the 4tb in built drives..also why design a huge dongle when a small tiny dongle would be better suited to avoid damage to the unit if bumped
I have a problem with getting my amp and dac working on the back usb of the system so I had to plug it into the front. for some stupid reason they don't connect using the back usb ports.
I didn’t have issues with heat having the dongle in the back, it was having a USB hard drive plugged into the back at the same time that caused the connection to cut out.
Thank you. Didn't expect that. Was just saying that a adapter would help with adding more usb's and being able to move from back to front.. I use mine for headphone charging, headphone Bluetooth usb and game pad charger. (2 pad charger)
I have the pulse 3Ds, they never had any issues when plugged into the back but I definitely noticed the dongle was SUPER hot so I’ve always plugged into the front ever since
To prevent the overheating of the dongle from the back of the console, you can use a USB extender to dive to divert it away from the back.

Yes pluging it in the back does cause problems because of heat. Happened to me, & now i only plug it in the front
Congratulations ⬆️⬆️⬆️ hit me up got something for you.
I literally just retired my Pulse 3D headset and got the Artis 7P+ headset from Steelseries lol
And it’s a big upgrade
But damn it this got me worried
I HATE having things plugged into the front of the console
So plug the dongle in wherever you want got it never woulda thought of it without the vid
Congratulations ⬆️⬆️⬆️ hit me up got something for you.
I did notice connectivity issues, and it was super hot when I removed it. It sits in the front port now
I.. have a ps5 slim… Do you have any recommendations where i should plug it in?
Great Video Dude Thanks
Buy the Steelseries 7P+ headset, brilliant audio (3D audio supported) and the dongle is also very small and slim
I have lost my PS headset dongle. Can I use a different one? Or should I try and order an original?
Can you use the pulse 3d with other dongles? For instance I have the PlayStation 2.0 headset, would it work with that?
I was about to toss the headsets in the garbage.. thanks for the video, I changed the dongle to the front and I haven't had any issues since.
Razer makes a PS5 headset where the dongle plugs into the front USB type-c port and is offset so that it doesn't obstruct any of the other USB ports.
Congratulations ⬆️⬆️message me right away to claim your price
Ever since my Sony Platinum headphones stopped charging, even after I put in a brand new battery, I have been using my Sony WH-1000XM4s via my C1 tv's bluetooth.
Now I do not need a dongle and the sound is great.
This guy may have just fixed my issue 10/10 vid
Dude. It was you that recommended plugging into the back in the first place. I can remember last year when you posted the video
I have mine on the back, my pulse headset drops out quite a bit. I don’t want to put it on the front cause little hands will break it, may need to invest in a USB extender and blue tack it to the wall behind. Never even occurred to me it could be a heat issue.
hmmm well i haven't had any problems so far, i think ill just keep it in the back because it looks alot better and i wouldnt want to accidentally bump it
but thanks for the info anyway. ill probably try this first if i ever have any audio problems
I assumed it was maybe an issue with the USB port at the time, because my console isn't blocked in the back and when the dongle got hot, it was like it was internally hot and not hot from air getting blown on it
The problem with the ps 5 slim is,that it does not have a usb A port in the front anymore, only on the back side 😞
Yeah, my Pulse would cut out randomly when it was plugged into the rear USB ports. Works perfectly in the front USB.
I don't have ps5 but still watching this and searching these types of videos
I actually experienced this and since its at the front iv never had a issue
Why did they only put one USB B port on the front? How else am I supposed to use a wireless headset with my wheel plugged in? Unless I got a hub but Ive had a hub before and it didnt work with certian things.
I use to have my dongle in the back and my pulse use to go in and out. When I figured that might be the problem and moved it to the front. It was super hot. I learned my lesson.
I lost my Pulse 3d headset dongle, can another dongle on Amazon work or do i have to find that exact dongle ? Or just buy a new headset ?
What do you do if the ubs is over heat? It’s does not fix if I turn it to the front one
I never had a problem with Steelseries Arctis7P, but gonna move it anyway as precaution. Thanks for the warning
I did this and my ps5 stood up, looked at me in the face and said "I am the captain now."
Glad that I put it in the front from the beginning because it was easier to switch to pc :D
I think I saw somewhere an instruction that said that audio things should be plugged to the front USB... Don't remember where I saw it but I've been using that port ever since
The way you said "if you or someone you know" reminds me of those mesothelioma lawsuit ads on TV.
I can install game on ps4 but i can't play say ( disc is damage or dirty) but why I can install!!
It's good I stumbled upon this video. I just got my ps5 headset.
Wow this make perfect sense because I have been experiencing this with my pulse 3D headset, recently moved the dongle to the front so hopefully that helps, thanks John and love your content bro
i need help i have the headsets but i lost the usb and the cables can i buy a usb on amazon would it work with the headsets ?
Can’t believe they don’t have people who test these designs..who builds a new gen console with a tiny hdd where’s the 4tb in built drives..also why design a huge dongle when a small tiny dongle would be better suited to avoid damage to the unit if bumped
What if you have a ps5 slim and you can only put it in the back?
You could also buy a short female usb adapter cord a few inches long to prevent damage and exhaust heat
I have a problem with getting my amp and dac working on the back usb of the system so I had to plug it into the front. for some stupid reason they don't connect using the back usb ports.
Congratulations ⬆️⬆️⬆️ hit me up got something for you.
But the PS5 has uSB c ports in the front. What am I supposed to do then?
Why doesn’t the ps5 have a built in wireless adapter? Like how you pair up the controller.
I didn’t have issues with heat having the dongle in the back, it was having a USB hard drive plugged into the back at the same time that caused the connection to cut out.
I use a usb adapter.. 1. gives me more usb's 2. Keeps away from heat.
