A lot of people don’t realise lots of dust can be mitigated by using a dust cover. Whenever your not using the ps5 just slot the cover on top and it’s prevent at least 80% of the dust build up over time. 😊
Doing this every 6 months is great, but in between make sure to check those vents, remove the face plates and give them a good cleaning (check the dust catchers with a vacuum as well). It's a fast process and if you do it frequently enough you'll have less gunk reaching the fans - and worse - the heatsink.
Depending on where you live and whether you have pets or a smoker (of any kind) in your home, you might want to give it a cleaning every 3 months or at least check it that often. That works for my situation with a couple of very hairy cats in an apartment. Also, air cans are way expensive now. Don't forget to use a vacuum to get the main stuff out before you start blowing dust through the system.
@ᱬ Sad B!tch ᱬI don't doubt that many players never have a problem. These things are almost bullet proof. I was surprised by the fact that my PS4 didn't stop earlier. It was grossly plugged with 5 years worth of everything from the places I lived. I'm watching the PS5 more closely as the PS4's was a sad, uncool, and an, as always, untimely death.

@@NunayahBuisness It does bond. Wish I could post a pic of my old PS4 fan here. Just wow. I have to say, the PS4 was a rugged beast. It should have had problems much earlier. I like the idea of a filter for the PS5.
Always cleaned it like this during the 1 year warranty, but after the warranty was over I looked up some videos of deep clean and disassembled the ps5. I was scared the whole time while at it. It was worth it, it wasn't as dirty as I thought it would be.
I did this around 2 weeks ago and my PS5 was absolutely spotless. I can only assume some people have filthy homes if they’re getting that bad. Keep the environment tidy & that’s more than half the battle
That’s what I was thinking, especially when he shows the post at the start showing the amount of dust that had accumulated in a month. I just checked mine which I have since launch and it has pretty much no dust in those vent vanes.
Mine was caked in shit, but I also had all the rear walls removed from the back of my house and an extension built, looks like my ps5 turned into a temporary Henry hoover.
What I also highly recommend ps5 owners to do while cleaning the fan is to flash a light down to the bottom of the ps5 to check for dust build up. That’s actually where the battery is. For 5 months, my ps5 kept turning off while playing games and overheating. This is the reason why. Use a brush and a vacuum to get rid of the dust that’s on the battery.
Bought a £15 cleaning and disassembly kit from Amazon, heatsinks and the 'cheese grater' radiator block behind/below the fan are definitely the cause of most overheating issues as they get clogged very quickly, especially in dusty environments, I cleaned my heatsinks a few times and still had issues, so had to reach further into my console with a toothbrush to clean the radiator block itself. Definitely worth a look if anyone is having console issues, I could have made sculptures with the amount of dust I got.
When you’re cleaning the fan and blowing dust everywhere, I recommend NOT doing it right over the console. Also do this entire procedure outside or in a very well ventilated area. No point in cleaning the dust out if it’s still in the same area it’s going to sit in once you’re complete.
I own a Series X and cleaning is super important. I feel bad for many console owners of this gen because they will soon find out that surface level cleaning can only go so far. It may be beneficial to deep clean ALL dust from the console - mainly the cooing fins for the Heat Sink.
I own series x too but seeing this compared to series x my series x doesn’t need cleaning as it does have self cleaning system I wish Sony could do the same for their consoles rather than having to take the console apart just to clean the dust haha
@@thedeep3759 "self cleaning system" dude if you don't clean your console it's gonna fill up with dust. Your Xbox does not prevent months and years of dust buildup.
I live in a super dusty island environment and have to clean regularly (every month or so). D-brand makes plates that have filters over the fans intakes that cut down the dust build up substantially. Ever since i got em i only have to take the fan out 2 times a year. Highly recommend them if you’re getting a lot of build up. 👍
I typically clean my computers at least once a year as well. I have had my PS5 for a year now and the dust inside was a lot more than I thought it would be. All cleaned and ready to go again!
I have to admit. I'm one of the owners who didn't keep track of the screws as I took them out so of course it was a pain putting back together. So thanks for making that a valid point in the cleaning process.
Been keeping mine clean since release. Good tip if your lazy, keep a microfiber cloth or any large cloth to cover the top of your system when not in use. You’ll only have to clean it once a year if your consistent with it.
Dude this video just cost me $250. I followed your instructions and when I tried to disconnect the fan it pulled the part off the circuit board. I was pulling gently to disconnected it like you show but the whole piece disconnected from the circuit board. PlayStation won’t cover it so I’m now having to spend $250 to get it fixed. Fyi, don’t remove your fan to clean out dust. Not worth the risk!!!
definitely check and clean … within my first year of owning my PS5 shut off randomly after about 30 minutes of usage. At my old house, the dust build up was really bad since my room was so small. So for about 9-10 months, I just gave up and thought my PS5 was broken forever. I really don’t know why opening up my system and cleaning the fan and everything inside didn’t cross my mind. As I moved into my new house a few months ago, I decided to give it a try because, hey why not at this point lol. After a quick clean and usage of a compressed air can, the system was good as new. I could leave it on for days if I really wanted to. The moral of the story is if your system is constantly turning off after short usage, just clean your fans. Don’t be like me lmfaooo
I just used a low power vacuum to get all the dirt out once I see some dust on my ps5 I use it but only had for a couple of month so I don't have take it all apart

Thank you very much for the reminder! I do console repairs for me and friends from time to time so I had seen some consoles in really bad shape but never a bad case with my own stuff. So I thought my PS5 (which i have since a year now) would also take some time to get dust build up but OH MAN WAS I WRONG! Maybe the spot where it stands isn't as open as I hoped it would be... @@alswearengine4867 You'll need a Torx Security TR8 driver / bit for the fan. everything else (except for the stand for which you can use a coin / flat head) should be tool-less
Something important that was failed to mention in the video is when taking the shells off the console. Which you have to hold the top corner that is on the front side and hold the bottom corner on the opposite side which is the back. The important part he forgot to mention is you have to Pull and PUSH down. Not just pull off or otherwise you can break the parts that attatch the shell to the console
First video he already mentioned how to do so. By this time most users should already know how. Even Playstation has instructions on how to do so on RUclips as well
Its probably way better to clean your consoles but I had an xbox one for 10 years and never cleaned it and constantly moved it around and it never faltered. Old reliable.

I have a PS4, and have for just over 7 years now, I only cleaned it for the first time this year. It made a huge difference to the noise levels. That or the repaste I did to it.
Just cleaned mine today. I have a launch model and there was more dust in there than I anticipated. Not bad for 2 years though so I’ll probably give it another go yearly or so just for maintenance. It’s reallt not hard to do a quick cleaning. Most people will go the entire gen without cleaning it though. Dust accumulation varies depending on the room you keep it in. But dusting counters and such as well as vaccuuming or sweeping regularly can help mitigate this as well.
This was the only thing that was making my PS5 crash every time I was on it. The amount of dust was horrible, but I cleaned it and now operates as if nothing happened
If your going to take it apart, might as well make it have positive air flow(meaning the fans have more intake air than out. Which pushes air out gaps instead of sucking in dust). Then filter for the intake(s). Dunno if possible, but thats more ideal. My pc virtually dust free and I haven't cleaned it in 2 years, beyond intake filters.
Pro tip, wherever you have your PS5, put an air guardian (purifier) in that same room, leave it on low at all times. It filters out the dust in the air.
This is probably the easiest fan to take off from a ps5. If yall follow Sonys guide on their youtube channel, yall will be fine, plus the peace of mind knowing the instructions are coming from Sony directly
Just cleaned my PS5 today since I bought it in December of 2020… so much dust!! Managed to clean it all up with a vacuum and q tips to clean the inside fan. So happy I did that now I feel like my PS5 can breath better!
I’ve had mine since November 2020, just last weekend popped it open to put in an SSD and saw almost no dust anywhere. The console sees multiple hours of use almost every day. I think people just need to use common sense and keep their consoles off the floor/carpet and away from shedding pets. Plus keep your house clean lol
I recently took the plates off to clean mine, and it was a lot easier than I expected. I was surprisingly nervous about doing it but it’s not too bad and I don’t think I’ll have any issues doing it next time. Disconnecting the fan to clean is another issue entirely though!
Some of these steps can be very difficult to do like removing the fan inside your PS5 console yeah I don’t think I want to do there since I’m not professional like you John bro and you are so good on giving these steps for us to learn and what we should do and it’s always good to learn your videos but sometimes it can be hard to know what you are doing it’s not easily for most people like me but great tips on how to learn to clean the PS5 console
I don't understand, to disassemble the fan its maybe 3 or 4 steps in total but ok, maybe its too hard for some people.. If you want to be less scared, take apart an old electronic (phone, remote, idk) that you don't care if it breaks and get used to cleaning and taking apart stuff like this. There's plenty of things you can do, but if you don't take care of your stuff, its your fault if it breaks or starts to malfunction

Edit: I guess I didn’t have a security driver version. Its ok though nothing pliers cant fix getting the other two screws out. The person I learned what driver to get didn’t say security driver but I know the difference now. I love how you can easily unscrew the fan screws. Two of mine got stripped nearly instantly. These types of screws seem so terribly designed with the little metal bit in the top middle where the driver goes so that they cant be better fitted deeper. Its like 5% of the drivers tip can fit in to the screw causing it to to keeps slipping over the edge damaging the screws.
You mean you didn't use a security bit? (Hole in the middle) I don't have any and I'm lazy. I use a flat head and also torx for like 2 that I can fit just fine. Of course if your smart and carefully unscrew them without stripping them. Otherwise it should be easy to do with no issues

Every time I try to clean electronics by myself, even when I'm looking at guides to help, I always end up breaking something. That's how I broke my first PS3. Tried to clean the inside and ended up breaking the cable connection to the fan.
That's EXACTLY what I did when I cleaned my PS5 for the first time... turned out that the connector and the pins which go into it got stuck and I pulled out the entire thing out from the motherboard. Needed soldering and a new piece, even now I'm afraid to undo it.
@@MrBrentEC if I can do it u can to bro all u gotta do is grab both ends of the white plastic that got the wires don't go further down try going as high as you can because if you grab the plastic underneath it will fuck up the motherboard but anyways once you grab on wiggle the connector left and right while also moving it up a little it will take some time but that's the safest way

Ceiling fans have a static cling issue also people leave them running all day. If yours is getting bad fast. Change your return filter for your hvac more and vacuum.
These people with nasty systems are likely smokers and therefore present the extreme cases. Most people, if left on the shelf and played regularly, won’t experience any issues regarding cleanliness or thermal issues for quite some time.
It's super nice that's sony build the console like this, cleaning and maintenance of my sp4 was a pain due to having to completely dismantle the console in order to reach the cooling fan, so making me remove some lids and then screw out the fan it's a great improvement
I just ordered mine, and didn't realize how easy it is to take apart and clean it. I'm definitely going to do this, hate to see how much dust is inside my PS4 slim.
*FYI GUYS* ³ There's plenty of tutorials online that will guide you with ease. Of course, don't plan on eating a greasy burger or drinking a cold beverage whilst doing the job. If possible, wear electrician blue rubber gloves to prevent finger markings and damage any chipboard if you need to touch it for any reason. Don't use too much force removing/adding anything, especially screws. Doing so can cause the tension to crack the plastic. When you've accessed the fan, DO NOT MOUTH BLOW THE DUST AWAY. As it's from your mouth , your breathing will add moisture to the blow, and that ain't good!
I own a PS5 for 7 months from the day i bought it. Since i just have time to play in the weekends because of work and that is, 2 days a week, i don't think there's too much of dust in there, plus, i keep it covered with some sort of cape i made myself during all the time i don't use it. Because of that, i don't pretend to clean it for now

People need to understand. A ps5 is basically just a computer optimized for gaming. And pc gamers know, you need to clean your rig out from time to time. Depending on where you live, it can get pretty dusty in there. I live in a house with baseboard heat and notice that I get alot more dust buildup now than when I lived in a house with central duct heating.
I got my PS5 day one and never cleaned it. I opened it yesterday. There wasn’t much dust at all. And I’m using it every day. But I will do this once a year. Thanks.
Exactly this! I had added an internal SSD and my PS5 would constantly turn off after about an hour's use. I thought it was the hard drive but someone recommended checking it for dust... It was filthy. Cleaned it out and put the SSD back in, haven't had any issues since.

I was nervous the first time I took it apart. But it’s not that hard.I do a full clean out every six months, and I blowout/ vacuum the vents several times in between those
I use a couple different sized small paint brushes with a vacuum to clean the fan and side vents without removing anything but the side plates. Hope this helps others who dont want to remove the fan. Had mine for 2 years and still looks and runs brand new. I clean every other month.
Ive had my PS5 for over 2 years and i cleaned it this month for the first time. It barely had any dust in it. I just took off the side panels and vacuumed. I keep it covered when I'm not using it, so that helps prevent dust from getting inside.
This is why I literally hate the PS5's design because not only is it horrendously huge, heavy, and difficult to carry around, the ventilation area is completely exposed, which allows dust to seep in very easily and within short periods. I keep mine covered in a plastic bag and remove it only when I use it. Sony clearly didn't try hard enough in improving the design and just wanted to launch it immediately to keep their money flowing in.
All ventilated electronics simply require half a cans worth of compressed air once a year; just dont sit there like an idiot and do a sustained blow right on the fan causing it to spin up to operating speed or higher, likely frying the controller. Maybe thermal past after 5 years.
I cleaned my day one edition Xbox one after 9 years of regular use... it wasn't even that bad. I reapplied thermal paste to the soc which had dried out, I saw a noticeable performance improvement.
I should have no reason to worry about this because one I will barely play my ps5 and two I'm not gonna leave my ps5 sitting out after use I'm repackaging it like it was never used to avoid dust build up and to avoid any problems. Also I bought my ps5 recently so Sony had time to tinker with any problems that the earlier ps5 probably had
I’ve had mine since launch and recently changed the white plates for coloured ones. Hardly any dust in there which is good. I guess it’s different for others

It's a fast process and if you do it frequently enough you'll have less gunk reaching the fans - and worse - the heatsink.
I’ve found that placing the ps5 on its side rather than upright with the stand screwed in is less prone to allowing dust to build up.
I have mine with some covers when I'm not using it and the Series X. No issues so far
I can’t get over the amount of people not talking about this solution 😂 so many comments and you’ve been the only one to bring up
Depending on where you live and whether you have pets or a smoker (of any kind) in your home, you might want to give it a cleaning every 3 months or at least check it that often.
I have an alaskan malamute. So i feel that. 😂
I feel bad for my consoles sometimes cause I live in Texas always dry here we live down a dirt road I have cats and a dog and I smoke I might go clean it right now actually lmao
The tar from the smoke seems to bond with the hairs and make nice little clumps. I got an airfilter for my consoles health not mine.
Depends on where you live. Air quality matters, is not just the "filthy home" problem.
He's trying to sell people those screwdrivers so it had to be worst case scenario in the video.
Mine was caked in shit, but I also had all the rear walls removed from the back of my house and an extension built, looks like my ps5 turned into a temporary Henry hoover.
My ps4 caught less dust in 9 years than those ps5 did in 2 years
What I also highly recommend ps5 owners to do while cleaning the fan is to flash a light down to the bottom of the ps5 to check for dust build up. That’s actually where the battery is. For 5 months, my ps5 kept turning off while playing games and overheating. This is the reason why. Use a brush and a vacuum to get rid of the dust that’s on the battery.
*powersupply not battery
@@impala403yea ps5 does not have a battery
Thanks for the help! Upgraded internal SSD and removed and cleaned the fan as well as fins and dust ports, you rock!
Definitely worth a look if anyone is having console issues, I could have made sculptures with the amount of dust I got.
could you link or tell me which disassembly kit you bought?
@@thedeep3759I have series X too, but I don't believe for second that claim. I've never seen system that wouldn't get dust accumulation 😊
Me to My Ps5 had a Rat living inside..had to put it outside for a couple days😑😑
I typically clean my computers at least once a year as well. I have had my PS5 for a year now and the dust inside was a lot more than I thought it would be. All cleaned and ready to go again!
Pro tip I’ve been using for a while and works great, to clean the fan u can just use Cotton swabs to remove the dust and less risky
I have already done these steps 2 or 3 times. Now I have just been keeping my PS5 well clear of dust and out in the open with plenty of airflow.
Thats the way to go! 👍🏽
I keep my PS5 out in the open too but it still collects dust
I have to admit. I'm one of the owners who didn't keep track of the screws as I took them out so of course it was a pain putting back together. So thanks for making that a valid point in the cleaning process.
If you think keeping track of 4 or 5 screws is difficult id love to see you try dismantle and pull an engine from a vehicle without keeping track lol
"Use a microfiber towel"
*used a paper towel*
I also use a cover for it while I'm not using it, really helps a lot with dust accumulation.
I put a blanket over it so no dust gets inside also my ps5 stay warm
@@Grandmatabby :))) dude.
Been keeping mine clean since release. Good tip if your lazy, keep a microfiber cloth or any large cloth to cover the top of your system when not in use. You’ll only have to clean it once a year if your consistent with it.
This is exactly what I do, of course after I let it cool down. 😊
Ill wait till that point to risk it not going to be opening shit up to break it prematurely
I just used a low power vacuum to get all the dirt out once I see some dust on my ps5 I use it but only had for a couple of month so I don't have take it all apart

Never cleaned my launch ps4 never had a problem with so won't clean my ps4 only time Il took plates of was to insert ssd

My pc virtually dust free and I haven't cleaned it in 2 years, beyond intake filters.
just some fine screening, just like some PC cases like the Corsair 570X has will do the job without gimping airflow.

DO NOT USE A VACUUM!
The static electricity can fry the board.
Just curious what should we use instead of a vacuum?
I used my water hose to spray it down then left it on the sun a couple hours looks like new now😊😊
I recently took the plates off to clean mine, and it was a lot easier than I expected.

That mean you used the wrong size bit bro. Got to use the right tool
You mean you didn't use a security bit? (Hole in the middle) I don't have any and I'm lazy. I use a flat head and also torx for like 2 that I can fit just fine. Of course if your smart and carefully unscrew them without stripping them. Otherwise it should be easy to do with no issues
Perhaps you should use the right tool for the job next time, instead of being the tool.

This is a perfect example of how to do a proper tutorial.
Thank you for this, subbed.
It's super nice that's sony build the console like this, cleaning and maintenance of my sp4 was a pain due to having to completely dismantle the console in order to reach the cooling fan, so making me remove some lids and then screw out the fan it's a great improvement
The last 2 seconds was very informative. Thx!

Thanks.

Great, another hint how to clean something clean, many thanks!
Thanks bro. I appreciate. Happy holidays & happy new year
I cleaned my day one edition Xbox one after 9 years of regular use... it wasn't even that bad.
Eventually cleaning just the fan will not be enough will have to clean the heatsink making you taking completely apart.
