    Hi there! Thanks for the video. I used my new R8 with 24-105mm EF lens to test 4K 60FPS. The room was about 18 Degree Celsius and I used Sandisk V3 (90MB/S write time) to shoot 20min 4K 60 FPS. It works fine to me with a V30 card so I wonder if I need a V60 or V90 card. Thanks.

    • @kaspergaram
      @kaspergaram  Год назад +2

      Hi! Thanks for your comment 😊 A V30 technically should be enough for the R8, but I had major buffer issues with a V60 card, but that card has been 100% fine with other cameras with much heavier codecs, so it might have been an issue with my unit of the R8 too. But just to be sure, it’s always better to have a faster card

    Thanks for the video. I’m looking at the R8 and I’m coming from the m50 so I’m used to having to carry multiple batteries. Good news about the overheating in 4k 60. I normally only use 60 fps when I know I’m going to slow down the footage so it is mostly short b-roll clips. Would love to see a video testing the 60 fps in that scenario. Short bursts of recording

    Most weddings, communions, parties are on location outdoors in the summer, in the middle of the heat of the day.
    You have no other choice this is the important moment that this camera must work without any problems!
    Then indoor shots where the sun shines on the camera are not a real benchmark!
    How can firmware solve a heat problem?
    It can only ensure that the protection against overheating is off.
    the only good solution is a fan that blows away the hot air!
    If the printed circuit board gets too hot in the camera, it must be cooled down with a fan, just like in a computer (see how many fans there are on a modern graphics card).
    In the other case, it will switch itself off if a too high temperature has been exceeded.
    If you now disable this protection or adjust the value via a software update instead of 80 degrees to 120 degrees, it will continue to work longer, but at what price?
    Therefore, using an external battery, external memory, opening all covers and screen is a small solution against a construction error!

    • @kaspergaram
      @kaspergaram  Год назад

      Yes, you are absolutely correct. But we do need some kind of benchmarks to see how a product performs in comparison to other similar products, right? Personally, I wouldn’t want to keep my camera in a hot sunny spot for too long even if it was turned off all the time. It will get hot no matter what, if the sun is blasting at it. Shutting down due to overheating is a good thing in many cases, but if the camera makes itself overheat too easily, it’s not fun.

    • @pfv3462
      @pfv3462 Год назад +1

      @@kaspergaramThe only good solution is a fan that blows away the hot air (like the new Panasonic DC-S5ii) or water cooling just like in a computer!
      too much heat is detrimental to electronic components

    • @kaspergaram
      @kaspergaram  Год назад +1

      True. And there's a very good reason why cinema cameras are larger than hybrid cameras. One of the reasons is the fact that they need to house a fan.

    Imagine filming short sessions of a wedding in the sun but without a 15 minute rest between each shot for a total of about 25 minutes!
    This is very normal use, then the camera does not have time to cool down and overheats!
    then one of the most important moments of the day comes and your camera is worth nothing and has to cool down for 15 minutes.
    you can no longer film the moment the couple walks away from the altar between the family and the guests!
    you can quickly use your cheaper mobile phone to see the couple leave with the bridal car!
