      I can totally see people buying the G16 for the cheaper price tag, considering the performance that it’ll pack in. That said, I am kinda sad that there’s no AMD in the G16, the G15 and M16 were a good pick between Battery and Efficiency, or pure horsepower.

      AMD didn't really have much presence in the laptop space. And Asus is the only one that actually put amd on their flagship Zenbooks. Maybe Lenovo too, not sure what their actual flagship is because xD.
      Dell XPS and HP dragonfly are intel exclusive even now.
      OEMs haven't been ready to trust amd, and amd didn't make that much chips probably due to fear of not being able to sell them all.
      Most people who don't know anything about processors are actually familiar with i5 and i7 due to years of advertising. AMD is still a 2nd option for the masses and OEMs don't want to take risks.
      But AMDs new naming scheme is going to give them an even worse reputation as you're gonna see a lot of ads with 'with the latest ryzen 7 7000 series processors' with Zen 2 and SQUIP vulnerability xD

    The point of the G15 was a great all-round for everyone, especially students. Battery no longer is as good due to intel and most likely more expensive because of Intel's 'Premium'. I had high hopes for Asus, but they made some odd decisions. Although I cannot wait for Razer Blade 14/16/18 for this year. I hope Asus does some software magic that helps battery and doesn't go too crazy on price. Nvidia's new GPU's are very promising. @theprovost Год назад +2

    So functionally no difference b/w the two laptops anymore!
    Same screen size, same family of processors, same gpus and worse battery life compared to last year(G15)?
    This essentially makes M16 redundant. All Asus had to do was put a 16:10 display in last year's G15 and they would have been golden; product differentiation with flexibility. But alas.

    • @MatthewMoniz
      @MatthewMoniz  Год назад +1

      It would make the G16 redundant. The M16 has the better chassis since its new and allows a few more features. .

    • @theprovost
      @theprovost Год назад +2

      @@MatthewMoniz G16 keeps the ethernet port and will probably be cheaper. The existing chassis on the G lineup is great (been using the 2020 G14 since it launched) so the chassis quality might not be that much of a factor while choosing b/w G16 & M16
      That an equal argument can be made for both is testament to the fact that Asus has screwed up their product differentiation.
      There used to be a clear choice: if you want a powerful, 14 inch laptop go for the G14. If you need a bigger screen and more power, G15. And lastly, if you want the most powerful of the bunch, M16.
      Screen sizes were a differentiating factor, as was the relative performance and the option of an AMD chip. All gone now :(

I've used both Intel and AMD Ryzen (I currently have the 2021 G14 with ryzen 9) and it just doesn't feel any different than my old i5 I used to run... And it's still proven that Intel is faster for gaming, which is why I buy these laptops. I'm almost always plugged in as well, I rarely use my laptop on battery, and when I do it's only for an hour or 2 anyway. It was always just way too much of a pain in the butt to go switch all the power settings to achieve that 10 hour battery life you can get from the G14. It was honestly just gimmicky to me. But I get it, it would still be good to have options. Hopefully they offer AMD later in the year.

    I feel the magic sauce is lost when going to Intel for the g15’s replacement. AMD is king with it comes to efficiency and battery life and Intel is just too hot and power hungry for a portable thin and light laptop. The zephyrus was fantastic in terms of battery life for a gaming laptop and Intel does ruin that. I owned a 2021 zephyrus and that was the perfect balance of power and portability, I have a 3070 desktop and it ran around 75% of the performance of that desktop which is impressive for a thin and light gaming laptop

    If not, then I couldn't give a shit, because the £3200 price tag on the 4080 is absolutely ridiculous.

    More ryzen for the g14. And yes the g16 makes perfect sense if you have a bunch of the old chassis laying around as you make the switch for the newer model. While it's nice to have ryzen as a option, availability always has been a issue with those.

    Removing the ethernet port would mean immediate dismissal from me.
    Lighter colors are always good to have and I prefer them.
    Not sure why they don't include a proper SD card slot which can be used also for a microSD, but whatever.
    As for the removal of AMD, I don't like that even though the last time I bought an AMD CPU was the Duron, no...wait, it was the Athlon X2. I think...hmm, ok let me rephrase it, even though I haven't bought an AMD CPU since I bought an Intel C2D (the first one).
    I am in favor of more options for the customer.

    not only is the animatrix display large pixels that are LED and thus barely use any battery power at all, but not everyone is a middle aged man. There is a lot of high schoolers, college folks, gamers, etc...who will like the novelty of the pixelated animations to show off in class, or a coffee shop or lan party.
