      Really? Compared to the idea of Framework, this laptop is very disappointing. Memory can't be removed, nor upgraded. Big oof in my book.
      But then again, I'm still waiting on removable processors and videocards making a proper comeback.
      I miss the time of fully repairable/upgradeable laptops, like my old HP Elitebook 8540w. That one has a PGA988 socket for the Intel CPU and a Mobile PCI Express (MXM 3.0) slot for graphics cards. I could, in theory, upgrade it to an Nvidia RTX 2080, as that's the latest card made for this interface, but that would be massively bottlenecked by my CPU, lol.

    The price I'm seeing on Amazon is not all that bad for this much power. My only gripe is with the processors and LPDDR4 being board integrated. This means that any RAM failure results in a total board replacement. I'm not seeing any board at this moment but, my experience with repairs tells me the unit would likely be more cost effective to replace as a whole than service. Also, I didn't notice if the WIFI card was removable or not, didn't see it in the teardown. If the WIFI is also board integrated, this can be a similar and larger issue. I've seen dead WIFI kill a 1 year old Alienware M17 before. The machine was a $1700 machine but we couldn't find a replacement board for less than $1100

    Lenovo indeed makes great products.. However their support is extremely lackluster, at least here in the EU.. We had A lot of hardware issues recently and at times their so called support sends back faulty units as "No faults" found.. Even with documented issues with pictures, videos and logs of the issues..
    The customer should not be left suffering because the RMA team is lazy and bad at troubleshooting..
    And this is with the "procare" or whatever their extra warranty is called that provide higher urgency and faster respond times.
    Keep this in mind when choosing a business laptop.

    Hey zack, ive got a tech tip for you
    When you apply thermal paste to bare silicon (without a metal heat spreader) it is absolutely essential that you spread the thernal paste on the silicon without leaving any empty spaces.
    If i were you i would open up the laptop straight away and reapply the thermal paste.

    • @iamdmc
      @iamdmc Год назад +4

      I've got a tip for you: when working with low mounting pressure heat spreaders like inside a laptop don't use thermal paste. Use Honeywell's PTM7950 phase change pad. It matches liquid metal in performance while being completely electrically non-conductive and staying in place. It's the best TIM available in 2023 for laptops
