Sweet. The way I did it was cut the clip at the keyframes and drag the start and end keys of each clip. I didn't knew I could add keyframes inside....Thanks!
Wow... You just adjusted my workflow. This is too brilliant to ignore. It makes studying references so much engaging because you're manipulating it to fit your animation.
You just gave me a new workflow. I usually did the retiming after posing the character. I never thought in retiming the reference footage first XD. Not that I won't end up doing it anyway, it all depends in how it feels at the end, but I think this is a great option for staging and planning ahead the shot better. Nice tip. Thank you!
Yeah, it's fast and easy... I generaly have an idea of what will be my timing, but I found doing it on the reference pretty convincing. I think that can be very powerfull with 60FPS refences
@PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN with anything really. The way I see it, it's like having a better (custom) timing when staging with your reference. I think the idea is brilliant and very simple. In a way you already time things if using multiple reference for a shot, cutting and placing things together; so changing the actual speed of each footage where desired it's just taking a little extra time staging. So it can be a good benefit at a low timing cost.
Wow! This video is godsend. I would simply use the speed control effect in the effects menu of blender and use graph editor to retime stuff, but this gives retiming, at least for me, a new another meaning!! Thank you Pierrick!!
Great video thank you PP! I always retime my reference video, makes animating much easier as you work out the timing you need before you actually start animating. I do mine in Davinci though, as didn’t know you could do this in Blender. Will try it now!! 😊
That's a great idea about retiming the reference, rather than going back and doing the retiming on the animation after following the reference. It's a bit like doing a live-action animatic for an animated sequence. Ha ha! Great advice.
@Pierrick Picaut - I use to do this in Maya using QuickTime pro on an imagine Plane. Can the video in Blender be added to an imagine Plane in the Layout scene?
@@PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN I mean while it is still in the blender Video Editor, so you could still retime it while using it in the Layout scene as a reference. I thought you might know off hand since you have used this Blender feature.
TBH I always retimed animation in other software… a simple habit, but I would probably use blender now, because I like the tool. Also I never drop references in my 3D view, I give them a wich check in a jsy frame pro.
wtf!! THis is insane!! Would it be possible to dive in deeper into this video editor? I have not messed around with it at all. I only use it to string together png's into a mp4 file, when rendering with cycles. In theory, I could make clips of VFX explosions and projectiles with alpha channel. Then add them AFTER an animation, as a video on top of a video!!
@@PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN this is very useful, you should put it into your animation course as an additional resources, your course is amazing so far!
this feels like a pseudo mocap workflow, maybe you should clip in on the talks at the blender foundation on how to implement a proper mocap workflow into Belnder Perik
you have no idea how we can easily do this in maya! :D everytime i think about learning blender i find something that scares me! because it will never be as easy as maya for animation
@@PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN i was really planning to buy ur animation course but every time i compare it to Maya workflow and tools i get cold feet :D still thanks for the content i like it!

Such a game changer! Absolutely love this, I'd never think about such workflow. Thank you so much for sharing with us!

I swear, every day, I'm introduced to a feature of blender that I didn't know I needed. Thanks P
The video comes in clutch given what I have to get done this week.

I use something similar to edit mocap in Blender. The "Animated Strip Time" option in NLA.
Yes, such a great tool. And I thought about it when I% found this tip.... I wish they were a curve editor for the sequencer too.
That's a good idea too!

Really useful tips, as usual, thank you Pierrick !
I've been doing this for my 2D animations, and yet I never thought it was an actual concept. Thanks for the education.
What a great video, thank you very much!
Thanks for this tip ❤️❤️
Thanks man!

I’m not sure but I think you can.
Just try drag and drop in a 3D scene

Thanks a ton for this! Already added to my workflow. Could you give me a hint how to translate this to mocap raw data? Much appreciated
With the NLA. You can use time remapping on an action.
