Flying Battery Zone Act 1 - Oscilloscope Deconstructed
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 10 июл 2024
- Last time I'm uploading this I promise! Combining an oscilloscope view with deconstructions to make an oscilloscope deconstructed. Enjoy!
This is the third time I've uploaded this due to mistakes in rendering / programs not cooperating like they should. This one is in 60fps, has no ghosting and has correct labeling. So, enjoy!
Also bear in mind, I'll most likely be re-doing all of my current deconstructions and new ones like this from now on. These do take longer to make so there may be less per day I upload, but they'll be of greater quality.

Michael Jackson my dood
No, it wasn't.

@HouseOfFunQuestionMark I wasn't going to argue with him about it, but thanks for co-confirming for me, brother.
@@HouseOfFunQM now, it sounds like the bass from Smooth Criminal, right?

This would be cool as its own phase of the song. Maybe the start.
Tee lopes used it for just that lmao
Yea exactly. Most of the remixes have that part looped
This remix starts with that.

Flying Battery Zone Act 3
That... is... MY FAVORITE PART OF THE SONG! >:D
channel 0: You're weak
channel 4: i'm you
Channel 4 was probably made as an "echo" effect.
Channel 4: I'm you, but an echo.

slap ass is what i read this as
Something about that sega bass was so special ^w^ many great game soundtracks
SL🅰️🅿️🅿️ 🅱️🅰️SS
It's like a stealth mission starting out slow, then it starts to exculate as they accidentally set off the alarm at 1:30 and then everyone is after the stealth-hog.
That’s what I’m saying
You know you've made a good song when it gets chopped into fun sized bits and still is recognizable.
Channel 0 is so satisfiying.
Same with channel 4.
Channel 1 and dec could be my theme
Omg realy? 😧
Yah
That’s cool
Alright so as a kid I was obsessed with this song. Playing the track on repeat for minutes at a time on the Sega Genesis cart and I noticed something: the delay between channel 0 and channel 4 increases by split second on each loop and is very noticeable after a few plays.
It also does the same for Act 2.
So to simulate the sound of a slap-bass effect, channel 1 uses noise to start each note and follows it with a double-tipped sine wave (I'm not sure what else to call it). That's pretty cool. I've always wondered how that sound was made, and now I know it's 2 sounds chained together to make that bass line happen.
This track definitely has one of the best bass lines in S3&K. On par with Angel Island Act 2 and final boss (Big Arms) imo. It’s just so dynamic
Ubertheft I really like death egg zone’s.
I'm pretty sure there's no noise there, because I don't think the FM channels can do noise.
"Classic" FM synthesizers (like the Yamaha DX-7 keyboard, or the Yamaha OPN2 in the Genesis) generally produce sounds with a bank of "operators" (oscillators) that can be arranged in different ways to either phase-modulate each other or just be summed. More musical sounds generally come from oscillators that are running at whole fractions of frequencies from each other, which is why you can really only do FM digitally as synchronizing analog oscillators is somewhat complicated. With oscillators that are not in tune with each other you get some really crazy noisy sounds (the sound of some of the bumpers in Casino Night Zone come to mind).
The sharp attack on the slap bass is probably a modulating waveform that decays quickly, producing higher order harmonics that fade much faster than the sustained sound of the instrument. Those harmonics being only heard briefly end up sounding snappy and atonal. Then there are other harmonics that fade more slowly, much like the actual sound of a plucked or slapped string (if you pluck a metal guitar string and let it ring out, you can hear the high end fade before the low end does).
Any fast change in the frequency or volume of a waveform is usually perceived as "percussive". For example you can create drums in a subtractive synth by using an envelope that sharply drops the frequency of an oscillator.
@@rfmerrill I only understood about 2/3rds of what you just said, but it's pretty cool that each instrument is actually a collection of unique waveforms working together from a programming standpoint.
@@geraldalexander8093 you might find this video interesting: ruclips.net/video/tAK5sefmkIc/видео.html
Because of how the TV was set up at the time while playing Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, I'm not used to hearing Channel 3.
2:40-3:19 is how I've always known it.
When you listen to the song with only one working earpiece
Fun fact only the model 1 genesis had stereo sound, and only from the headphone jack
That happens to the console bc it has only those channels and need to skip some music's sounds to hear sonic and other sounds of the enviroment

Well that's pretty much how they made the Act 2 remixes for Carnival Night, Ice Cap, and Launch Base Zones. They didn't really make any new synth lines - they mostly just messed around with the channels.

Dude, Channel 1 and DAC are so freaking gooood
It's amazing how intense it sounds even playing with a very strict amount of channels and without resorting from those puny and pitiful sounding PSG channels. A great piece of S3&K soundtrack.
The Mega Drive was a good test for videogame composers. Other games have really awful soundtracks because they weren't capable of being creative around this frankenstein of sound design.

Channel 1 and DAC are the best when they are alone.
I freaking love the bass in this, like even for a Sonic song. It's much more intricate than I thought, hearing it like this. Thank you!
I love how they use two channels to create an echo effect for the lead instruments in sonic OST, pro gamer strats
I really like this new style of deconstruction. It's fascinating seeing all these waveforms in action. It's also easier to see which channel's playing what.

Thanks for making this video!
channel 1 and dac together are pure bliss
This takes me back to the first time I played Sonic Mania
I always think of 007 while I listen to this song.
Brilliant idea to separate all the instruments out, thankyou for these videos. I was a huge Sonic fan as a kid, especially S3&K, and I used to pick out the tunes on the piano because I just loved the music in that game. When I was getting really into composing, these videos were awesome to find when I wanted to really take apart the Sonic music and find out how it worked. It's influenced my stuff ever since! Thanks again for this series, it's been extremely useful!
So, what's the offset between channels 0 and 4?
Just wanna know
Daelin Channel 4 is essentially an echo of channel 1, being delayed by a fraction of a second.
By delaying it, it creates some sort of echo in the background, giving more into the immersion that you are indeed in a flying battleship.
If we're measuring in a 4/4 beat, I believe they're offset about 1/16 or 1/8 of a note.
I'm glad someone is doing this. I'm surprised this isn't a more popular video topic for video games. There should be way more "deconstructed" type videos on RUclips. I'd love to hear the entire DKC soundtracks with their individual sounds isolated like in this.
Damn, this is so freaking good!
I was listening to this on my headphones and I noticed that Channel 2 is heard on the left side and Channel 3 on the right, I hecking love this song.
i don't think i'll ever get tired of hearing channel 0/the main melody in of this song in general. so smartly constructed and catchy
