  • My attempt. Not a new design and not the best. I copied from Expedition Portal forum members. I used wood instead of Staboard and generally used what I had. Still may tweak a few things.

    Awesome idea. Great job!!!
Yea I rather build mine too then spending 300 dollars for a table. They’re nice but ridiculously pricey.
    Inspiring video. Thanks.

Glad you liked it. Certainly not an original idea. If you browse expeditionportal.com forums you'll see many similar, and likely better executed ones. But it works :)

Comfort in Discomfort. Hey, your table it’s pretty well made. I can see quality and perfection. Maybe you should think about selling them on eBay. There’s people with the money unfortunately they lack skills. 🍻

Nice idea. Getting ready to build my second drawer then a drop tailgate table for my JK. Should make a list of the items in the build.

I can't take credit for the idea. I copied a few designs from a thread on expedition portal forum. Nonetheless its worked out great. I built it to use with my specific stove. So far so good.

Should add a small second drop table at the top to place your salt, pepper and spices for when you are cooking. Also add holes big enough to hold cooking utensils,

Great design for your table! I’m curious - do you know what those plastic fasteners you used to mount the table are called? I haven’t been able to find anything similar online. I love the idea of mounting a table without it being permanent

I went to my local auto-parts place (like Autozone). If you look in their fastener section, you'll find a bunch of different types. They are used mainly in door panels. Another example is where your license plate mounts (though those are typically bigger). I just looked for one that was about the right size. Have been on there for a number of years with no issues. Here is a link to similar on Amazon to give you an idea. Search for "Plastic screw insert" or "plastic trim insert nut"

Do you have the measurement on the plywood?

Would another piece of angle screwed on other side work and make it a bit neater and close it in.

Any way you could send me the schematics for this? I'm really interested in building this myself after seeing your video!

I followed this relatively closely in terms of design and parts. I went with wood because its what I had available. I used some 2" L-aluminum. Basically went with what I had, but take a look at this post for some great pictures and a very pro build. expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/jk-tailgate-tables-the-lowdown.77277/page-12

@@comfort_in_discomfort I think I might go with wood too for simplicity and cost sake. How big was your splash board and table? I found the one picture of the distances between the holes which is helpful. Are there any issues with your tailgate table since you made it?

@@F1SH_SAUCE The table length is 28" with 23.5" between the brackets. It is 14" deep. The back panel is 26"× 14". The extension table is 20"x11" with about 4" underneath for support.

It's true, my video quality and editing is poor. Trying to make it better in the future, but I cannot spend a lot of time on the video. Thanks for watching.
