DIY DOOR HANGER for Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator Trucks - Works for JL / JT and JK too!

  • Thanks to the awesome engineers over at Jeep, removing the doors on a Jeep JL Wrangler or JT Gladiator pickup truck is easier than ever before. And because of it, there really is no reason why you shouldn't be taking yours off, especially now that summer is here! Well, except for the fact that they do take up a lot of space, get in the way and leaving them on the ground or resting up against a wall, can lead to them getting damage. So, what do you do with your doors once they are off?
    For me, the answer was to hang them. Specifically, up on a wall so that I could get them off the ground and out of the way. And, while there are a myriad of door hangers out there that you can buy, most cost upwards of $100 or more. Needless to say, I decided to make my own and in this short video, I'll so you just how easy it is to make, in less than half an hour and with just a basic set of tools. Of course, the best part about my DIY solution, is that you can find everything that you need at your local Lowe's Hardware Store or the like and it can all be had for about $16 and change! And that, is what the PIPPI Project is all about.

    I followed the instruction and made the door hangers for my 2019 JLU’s full doors. The only caveat is that, using 1/4” by 3-3/4” eye screws, when you put the front door on, it’s so heavy that the screws are bent as soon as the door’s weight is put fully on the eye screws. I replaced with 5/16” by 4” eye screws and made sure 2.5” of screw is torqued into the lumber, and it worked perfectly. GREAT instruction and it works like a charm

    I followed your video and the step-by-step instructions and made a hanger for my garage this afternoon - took me around an hour but I took my time. It turned out great and I will ultimately build 3 more of these in case my Gladiator and my wife’s Wrangler have all the doors off at the same time. Thank you so much for this video and all your other videos - as a relatively new Jeeper I have learned a lot from you!

    Or anchor 2 big hooks purchased from Lowe's or HD. The padded ones with the orange plastic protector. With windows down fold in the mirrors then hang em up thru the top of the window frame. 2 big heavy duty hooks 4 - 3 inch lags bolts and you're done. I do like your idea also. About the same cost.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  3 года назад +1

      Not something I would recommend. For one, you can't hang half doors with them and for two, over time, the rubber seals at the top of the window frame will warp, even with padding on the hooks. At least, that's what I've seen. But hey, if it works for you, awesome.

    Love the video - done in such a way anyone who isn't well-versed in carpentry could handle it. Well done. I'd add only this - some people have old garages, maybe not totally straight walls. Might not be a bad idea to put a level against the wall as if it leans inward at all, even a little bit at the top, once you hang the doors they'll want to swing away from the wall.
    You can correct for this be tweaking how far in the eyes are top compared to bottom, or shim the bottom of your hanger out from the wall just a tad. Keep it totally vertical left and right and top to bottom and the doors will stay put. If you've ever been in a house where a door wants to close, or open itself if not latched, it's due to it not being plumb at the hinges.
    With this project, it can be used even in an old garage that's less than perfect just by making sure the eyes are plumb in all directions.

    ok you get a thumbs up...in the summory put all the parts..only suggestion I have! I have a question...Can you just use the eye bolts and skip the lumber?

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  6 дней назад +1

      As in, just put the eye bolts into the wall? If you do that, your doors will not sit flush to the wall as the mirrors will push them away from it

    Thank you for the great video! Would it work using only 1 2x4 Project Lumber? In this way the hooks would be 2 inches apart from each other and you would hook the lumber to the wall in between the hooks , just in the middle of the lumber. Do you think this would be too risky and to much stress to one single lumber? Thanks, MG

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  2 года назад

      I suppose it's possible if you can figure out how to secure it to the wall.
