- Wheeling your Jeep is the best way to know what mods, if any, it really needs or could benefit from. And, after a year of wheeling Pippi, our stock JL Wrangler 2-Door Sport, it had become clear to Cindy and I, what one of them might be for her - a new front bumper. In this video, you'll get to see what we decided to replace the big, wide and plastic one that came on her from the factory and why, as well as how to get it installed.

This series is so exciting for me. I never see many if any big Jeep RUclipsrs doing 2 door jeeps, so this is refreshing to see. As someone who owns and has been modifying my 2 door JK
So happy to hear you're enjoying our Pippi series 👍
I agree! Everything is bigger and better now a days and this series is beyond exciting!
The OEM steel bumper is still among my absolute favorites … clean & functional. 👍🏻
I think so too.
agree 100%. Jeep designers knocked it out of the ballpark with the factory steel bumper with it's versatility and style. For sure have to remove the end caps and it already looks badass and gives you a great approach angle. Added a winch, a couple extra amber lights and the winch cover bar loop which was surprisingly easy to install and also inexpensive.
Couldn’t agree more 😎👍
I'm honestly thinking of pulling the one off my Gladiator Rubicon, and keeping it for the '23 Wrangler Willys I have on order now. Only thing I would do is swap out the tow hook from the Rubicon red to the Sport black ones, since the red wouldn't go well with the purple and black. I might lose a few bucks on my trade value with an aftermarket bumper on it, but I will save abut $1000-1200 between the steel bumper and the winch plate.
It’s a shame they are 1500+
I 100% appreciate you calling out the torque and actually torquing things I don’t see on other channels. Even on things like a bumper that I’m sure would be fine if you just made sure it was “good and tight”. Really makes me appreciate your videos. Keep up the good work!
2.0L stock sport 2dr!
Thank you. We're so glad that you can appreciate our videos.
I really like the path you two are taking with Pippi. Not only have you shown exactly why a stubby bumper is important, it also looks better. I think putting the air dam on was a good call. IMO that is where a good bit of fuel economy it lost, and people wheeling on a budget will probably be mindful of fuel cost, too. It can easily be removed if it needs to.
Thank you my friend.
also not a bad bit of cover for the rubicon swaybar
Wonder how much mpg is lost
Love the "Wheel it and you will know" approach to this series.
Well, it is what I always say and what I've lived by. Glad you can appreciate it.
I absolutely agree. Very awesome series.
I like the practical approach too. It's not over the top. I wish you could order it from the factory like this instead of being forced into the packages
I sense a Sporticon in the future :) The bumper looks great and is extremely versatile. As always, a joyous watch.
LOL - so happy to hear you enjoyed our video :)
I love this sport content. It's really great. It's so gratifying to see it wheeled and only upgraded SLOWLY as it's wheeled and not all at once.
Awesome! So happy to hear you're liking what we're doing with Pippi 😎
I was really hoping you were going with the Rubicon bumper. I really like what you are doing with this Jeep. It’s very much along the lines of what I am planning.
Awesome, so glad to hear it 😎
Nice mod. I'll be getting one of these on my Sport Gladiator after a front end collision that destroyed the plastic one (among other items). Should arrive in a few days. I'll be getting at least a $425 credit toward the new one for that cheap plastic one! I just like the clean look of the Rubicon bumper over all others. I ended up springing for nutserts, never thought of using regular bolts. Great idea.
Glad to hear you'll be able to take a bummer situation and make it better.
Same bumper that’s on my Rubicon. For a factory bumper I think it’s awesome!
I agree. Jeep really did well with this bumper.
That's pretty cool that you can interchange a lot of parts between different models. So you can basically pick and choose what you want to do with your lighter spec'd rig. I am sure there are a lot of 'throwaway' parts out there since so many ditch all the factory stuff and load up with aftermarket.
There really are a ton used parts out there and more times than not, for cheap. You just need to look.
facebook marketplace is full of parts like this
I'm loving this little build.
Budget friendly and "near stock/light mods" is a great way to get into the hobby especially if it is your daily driver.
From my point of view and with other hobbies that embrace "built not bought" is that you replace these things when they fail. Lift and tires after 25K miles when you need tires and so on....
This is series is at a good pace and is a great point of you , thank you including us on this Jeep!
Awesome, we're so happy that you've been enjoying our Pippi Project and can appreciate it for what it is 😎
Join us August 12TH through 14TH for the 5TH Toledo Jeep Fest
in Toledo, Ohio-Home of the Jeep. Would be nice to see you!
We would so love to. Hope we can make it.
I always considered it a front skid. There's still some stuff in there that needs to be protected. Having multiple Jeeps lends itself to a wide range of versatility, and spare parts of known quality. Nice work.
Not sure what it's supposed to protect and I've never seen it be a problem to not have something like it under the front bumper but okay. Not unhappy to have it and glad you enjoyed the video 👍
Thanks Eddie, great way to wake up on a Monday morning. I love seeing all the wild ways we customize our Jeep's but something refreshing to see a very basic/factory style Jeep and seeing what it's capable of. Only other thing I'd do is add some all-terrain tires and maybe a couple of extra lights and it's perfect.
LOL - happy to hear we could help your Monday morning be a good one. As far as tires go, all I can say is stay tuned. You never know what's coming next 😎
I think this might be the best jeep content on RUclips. It's the way a lot of us work and it highlights using takeoffs and finding parts on Craigslist. It's also highlighting how capable the jeep is from the factory
We're truly humbled that you would say as much and so happy to know that you're enjoying our videos.
Please upgrade the tires. Just for the looks. Stock tires look horrid. Put on Sahara or Ribicon tires. You'll still be stock.
LOL - please stay tuned for more of our videos. You never know what might be coming next 😎
Great channel! It's a shame here in Brazil that access to Jeep Wrangler accessories is always very difficult.
Thank you and that is a shame. Glad you enjoy our videos.
What is the name of the bracket you installed that you needed to find nuts and bolts for? I am trying to make this same upgrade and I want to know what I am looking for parts wise on craigslist. Thanks in advance.
Unfortunately, I don't know what they are called by name, in fact, I don't even know if they have a name but anyone with a Rubicon that upgraded their bumper and didn't use them will have them.
Love what you're doing here Eddie. Too many people now regurgitate what they read and think if you don't buy a Rubicon then your jeep will explode into a million pieces if you go off road. Thank you for dispelling the internet mindset.
LOL - Happy to hear you can appreciate what we're doing with Pippi. And, what you just said is a BIG reason for why we decided to do this. Fortunately, Cindy and I had been doing this Jeep thing well before there was an internet or a Rubicon and wanted others to know that they shouldn't always allow themselves to be brainwashed by what social media and its "influencers" try to sell you.
I think most of us who are following knew this bumper would end up on Pipi. I think she is my favorite build on the net right now. I still think the factory steel bumpers are the best looking but... for my use, I needed a winch mount and tow bar mounts. When ordering, by the time I added those items to the cost of factory steel bumpers the cost was more than enough to just buy arguably better aftermarket bumpers with the features I needed. Plus, I ended up with a rear bumper that doesn't fold up and dent my tub when I bounce off of ledges.
I removed the plastic ones and sold the front with some other parts and gave the rear awat to a vet you had been rear ended.
Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed seeing this.
I love the look of the rubi bumper. Looks great!!! Looking forward to seeing what else you have in store.
Awesome! Stay tuned as more is coming 😎
@@wayalife Factory winch plate behind the Rubicon bumper I hope
Loving the budget-minded Pippi series. Budget dictated I had to 4-wheel a stock Squarebody Chevy from age 16 to my early 30s. Built rigs are awesome, but prohibitively expensive for so many. Thanks for the content, Eddie!
Awesome and happy to hear you're enjoying our videos. 👍
Great video! Did installing this bumper cause any issues with the fog lights? Steel bumper comes with LEDs right?
Lights work fine but they will give you an error code unless you have a means to switch them on the computer.
I never noticed the Rubicon bumper was a shorty.
The optional steel bumper is both. You just need to remove the wings and it's a shorty 😎
Thanks for the video Eddie , great entertainment as always..
Glad you enjoyed it 😎
I did the same thing with with my Rubicon. I ordered without the steel bumper group and piece mealed it together for 500 less! I love the stock stubby, great call!
Awesome and thank you :)
🤟👍 Cheers Guys.
I always say get a winch and learn your ride should be first
Learning your ride should always be a first for sure.
0:44 to 0:56 lol!
I would agree. Still stock as can be.
Awesome 😎
Looks like a good shoulder workout to remove the mounting nuts! Big bolts with lots of threads.
LOL - hence, why I decided to use power tools for putting everything back on. 🤣
I literally just bought and done the same thing to my JL today as well! Lol thank you for the videos and tutorials keep up the good work!!
Nice and thank you.
I Love this series also !!! I have a 2021 anniversary model and have made similar mods ! Keep up the great work!!
ha I knew it!!
Much better!
Battery powered impacts and ratchets are the best thing man ever invented imo 😂
Ain't that the truth!!
Very nice!..... I was waiting to see winch install, taking advantage of the bumper change...., thanks for the video, keep making more!
More are coming for sure. 👍
@@wayalife Thanks!
You make really good videos!
Thank you, we're glad to hear you enjoy our videos.
You're slowly turning it in to a rubicon
LOL - kinda but not really. Either way, everything we do is based on budget :)
Truly love these Pippi mod videos. Just bought a used 2020 JLUS and starting to prioritize modifications. Bumper is one. I assume that I can add a winch to this rubicon takeoff bumper?
Yes, you can install a winch but you will need a winch plate for it.
LOL, My wife told me to find a new bumper for my Jeep (JLUR) so she (JTUS) can have my factory steel bumper. She already took my Rubicon wheels and tire.
LOL - a quality problem right there. 😁
Exelente , pero falto el perrito al final , ya me acostumbre a verlo 😂
Yup my JL is getting a facelift
Awesome 👍
So glad to come home from work to find a new video. Thank you.
LOL - awesome! So glad you enjoy our videos :)
Seems to be more of a pain removing the the plastic bumper and other related parts. But putting on the Rubicon bumper and air dam went very quick. I definitely got a lot out of the removing and replacing of the bumpers. That’s one upgrade I like to do on my JL 2021 2 door. Getting a little stiff at 73 but won’t quit. Run Uwharrie and some power lines at Moore, NC. Very informative video and thanx !
Glad you enjoyed the video :)
My daily driver is basically Pippi. Except now that I’m coming up on 20000 miles, the stock tires are about donzo.
Awesome! New tires always do a great job of completely changing the look of a Jeep and in a good way.
Got my bumper and installed it. Awaiting the arrival of the air dam. My wiring looks slightly different, since it is a 2007 Sahara Wrangler sport. Otherwise it was basically “plug and Play”. Looks great. I love it!
Awesome!
I know is old the video but man you do not know how much this help because my OCD does not allow me to install something not in torque spec and you always have it when working on so thank you. Winch install over the weekend!! Yes!
Awesome! Happy to hear you enjoy our videos.
How long do you really think you can go before you upgrade tires? Or would takeoff Rubicon BFG's also count as stock? I'm confident you have those stored somewhere in that garage as well.
LOL - take offs or factory size tire would count in my book as stock.
sending message from south korea. Ive been watching ur contents for many years. think there are so much educational in your channel and thing I can learn about my jeep. (even english language). I really appreciate it and I hoped to have some day to say this. Im looking forward to meeting u some day, not online, at nice off load spot site. Hope you doing well till we meet actually. :)
Thank you. I'm truly happy to hear that you find our videos to be educational and I do hope we can meet some day.
i got my first second hand jk jeep because i was watching your videos the group Forms help me decide what lift kit to get in australia now many years later i bought a new Gecko green jt Gladiator Rubicon and i’m looking forward to build it up as well grate videos 👍
Awesome and congratulations to you 👍
Nice upgrade, looks great with that stock steel stubby. 👍
Thank you. Glad to hear you like what we chose to do.
We’ll you have to also consider it’s stock with a lift it can make a difference if some want the original OEM look.
Love how Pippi looks with the new bumper and I’m absolutely amazed at what you can do off-road with stock tires, suspension and a manual. Also love the rubicon manual sway bar disconnect, fabulous idea.
We took your advice and ordered our 2022 Jeep from Kent in Nampa, Idaho, where you got Pippi. We ordered our Jeep back in November 2021 and still don’t have it. I believe it’s being built soon then we have to wait for shipment. You would still recommend Kent and have been happy with the transaction, even with the odd financing?
Thanks you.
Congratulations on ordering up a Jeep but WOW, I'm sorry to hear it's taking so long to get. It really is crazy how screwed up things are right now in the world. Regarding Kent, yes, I would still recommend him and no, I don't get any kick backs or benefits for saying as much. The deal is good, even with the odd financing. The % we've been getting has never been bad and we've always refinanced our Jeeps after 6 months to get it even lower. Please say HI to Kent for me. I don't always get the impression that he knows just how much business I've sent his way LOL
I love how your modding a basic sport wrangler. To many people buy a Rubicon and throw 37s on it now a days. I bought the willys sport and love how basic it is
Glad you're enjoying our Pippi project :)
Awesome video as usual, I appreciate you saying the torque spec, really helpful and I imagine important in the long run.
Glad you found our video to be helpful :)
Now you need rubicon rear bumper, and then rubicon stock wheels and get some 33s nitto trail grabblers, with a winch, and some Baja pod lights on the b pillar and your guys are pretty much set!
LOL - well, you never know what's coming. Hope you stay tuned to find out. 😎
Looks great and it is a 100% functional mod. Knowing that I had that statched somewhere, it would've been the first part swapped on it. It looks awesome!!!
LOL - it was hard for us not to install it sooner but we're trying really hard to only install things that we find a need for.
What size nuts and bolts did you use to install the brackets from the Rubicon onto the frame?
As a new Rubicon owner, your channel is very useful. First upgrade was a 35' tires. Next is a bumper and you just convinced me not to get a full size
Awesome! So glad to hear our videos are useful to you.
Awesome video as always and bumper upgrade . Just got my 2022 unlimited sport S and the first thing I did was a 2.5 inch lift and 33 BFG KO2 AT tires 😄 and it drives and feels great . Have a good one and keep the video coming 👍
Thank you.
After seeing this now I want a Rubicon bumper on my Jl, hopefully next up in the series is a lift kit + tires, getting close to needing new tires and would love to see what you pick.
Well, you never know what will be coming in our next video :)
Thanks for making these videos. It helps with my decision on what suv I'm going to buy.
Glad to know that we could be of help to you.
Rubicon take off suspension next?
LOL - you'll just have to stay tuned to see what comes next 😁
I really like my factory steel front bumper. Not so much on the rear.
Did you have any issues with the LED fogs working on there?
I hear ya. Love the front but never really been a fan of the rear. No problems with the factory LED fogs... yet. I'm sure we'll be getting a error code the first time we use it for a period of time.
Excellent "stock" upgrade 👌. Much more functional including the steel air dam/skidplate.
Thank you and glad you like what you're seeing.
👌
Thanks for the video. Do you plan on leaving the bumper stubby or only when wheeling? I know on those rubicon bumpers you can add the sides that cover the wheel space so it looks like the old factory bumper you took off.
We'll be keeping it a stubby. In addition to performing well on the trail, it's the look we like best.
They only thing I would have done differently was to add a winch at bumper install.
Yeah, that would have been nice to get it done at the same time but so far, we haven't felt a need for a winch.
The video I’ve been waiting for. Always wanted a base model but wanted the rubicon bumper for a winch in the future.
Awesome :)
Harbor Freight Sockets. Such an everyday mechanic. Love it!
LOL - thank you for not giving me grief about it 😁
Now that's what I'm talking about, love it😍😁
Kind regards, AL
Awesome, thank you 😎
Nice Upgrade! I really like this Steel Bumper and have the JK version on my Jeep.
Thanks! The JK one is really nice too.
Pippy may not be as peppy with the added weight but looks so bad ass now 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
LOL - still doing good and yes, much nicer now :)
What's crazy is my 18 JLUR came with the cheap plastic bumper, plastic air dam etc, etc. Nothing Steel.
The steel bumper group is an option.
Interesting! Great why for and how to. Looks great also.👍👍😎🇺🇸
Awesome! Happy to hear you found our video to be educational. 😎
Pippi’s value just went up. That Mopar bumper is around $1K.
LOL - I've seen it for less from time to time but then, they were a bit more used.
It's just odd seeing one of your Jeeps without a winch. But it still looks good.
Keep the shinny side up!
LOL - And keep all four on the floor! Give it some time, a winch might be coming someday.
Winch would complement it nicely I love the bumper, plastic bumper sucks
The plastic bumpers really do suck and a winch is on the to do list. :)
Looks good And always nice to use old parts. Is that your JL logo is see in your videos?
Thank you and yes it is :)
That bumper looks great! I bet the rear bumper will coming next! Haha! Nice job you two!
We really do love this bumper. Never been too thrilled with the factory steel rear one but you never know. Glad you liked our video.
that's pretty cool, and respectable on your behalf. I like it!
Awesome! Glad you like what you see :)
Looks great. I’ve never been a big fan of the wraparound bumper design in the JL sport.
Thanks and me either.
Love the channel, I was tired of going through these BS channels about jeeps. I bought my 2020 Jeep Willys edition brand new, so I am new to the Jeep life but I am loving it. Thanks for all the info
Congratulations on getting a Jeep and we're so happy that you're enjoying our videos :)
@@wayalife I didn’t know there was so much to learn but the videos are definitely helping, keep up the great job!
Love it! Best front bumper for a JL. Now the rear stock steel bumper is another story , lol
LOL - couldn't agree with you more.
Using all those tools is no fun. Removing plastic is the job of nearby rocks. It's really fun watching plastic bumpers explode on contact . L.O. L.
New shorty looks good.
LOL
You weren't kidding about the roosters! LOL! Great video!
LOL - oh, there's no making that stuff up. Fortunately, you can't hear them as loudly from the house. Glad you liked the video. 😁
Always look around the garage and see what you already have before whipping out the credit card. I like Mopar parts because of the engineering. Great video!
It’s amazing how much plastic crap is on the jeep, it all gets brittle and cracks in time. My 2015 with 60k just had the oil filter housing go bad (major issue with the 3.6). I have it apart now and the whole top end is plastic, once it’s fixed it will be sold.
It sucks for sure but it's what's required to keep weight down. The feds make it so that vehicles are bigger and bigger for safety but that makes them heavier and heavier. Of course, that affects fuel economy. It's a vicious circle with no winning.
Sooo what random bolts did you use to mount the skid plate brackets? Should I just go to the dealership. Or am I good to go to the hardware store
You would be fine going to the hardware store and just getting bolts that work.
Hi I love your videos. And one of the several reason why I got my very fist wrangler JL. Just have a question since im new to Jeep, its a manual JLU and every time I shift to from 1st to 2nd there is a rateling noise coming from the bottom of the car (not sure where) it have 30 miles and dealer said its normal. Drove and own several stick JDM in my time but it doent make and rattling noise when i shift to 2nd. Just like to know if its normal? Thanks again for all the vid!
Not sure what you're hearing but depending on what it sounds like, I suppose it could be normal or it could be something like an exhaust shield that is loose.
Does anyone know if a Rubicon steel bumper will fit on a Gladiator Mojave without modification? Thanks
I assume you're asking about a front bumper? If so, if it came off a JT, it might but if it's from a JL, you would need to use the skid plate that comes with it.
I have a Willy’s 4 door….A 4x4 shop told me that I cannot install a steel front bumper without a lift , as this would make my driving and handling unbearable .. is this true?
I would never pretend to know as much or more than your 4x4 shop but if I were told that, I would be looking for a different 4x4 shop.
Hi Eddie, I apologize in advance if this has been asked before, but did you notice any noticeable dip of the front end now that you've had the steel bumper for over a year? I am about to do the same installation next weekend. Big thanks for all the fantastic content you are creating. Best Jeep channel by far.
For better or for worse, the factory steel bumper really isn't that heavy. Certainly, not like a good aftermarket one made out of 1/4" steel. So, no, I saw no dip from installing it.
Any update about the fog lights? You took off halogen but put on LED. Are you going to add a resistor or do JL taser? “Near stock” would probably be a resistor for $12.
So far, we haven't used them enough to throw a code but yes, resistors would be the cheapest way to address that.
As a broke person, I appreciate this build. It makes me feel better about my stock Cherokee with slightly bigger all terrains. It shows you don't need tons and 40s to have fun.
Nah, you don't need a big built up Jeep running tons and 40's to have fun. If anything, I think you have more fun without them.
@@wayalife makes the little obstacles seem bigger.
I understand the need for fenders blocking the air going over the tires for better gas mileage. I understand the improvement that taking that off helps with approach angle. Surely someone has clever as you can set up a put on/take off system that blocks air over the tires for everyday use....but easily comes off for trail rides?????
It's funny but I've talked to my engineer friends at Jeep and apparently, those covers between the fenders and bumper do little to nothing to help improve mpg. However, the air dam and the muffler spoiler do help a lot.
bumper looks great! I want to add one to my Willy's Gladiator.
They're out there, you just need to keep an eye out for them. :)
Watched your last vid of Pipi rock crawling. Said to myself, "It needs a new front bumper"!!!!
LOL - well, you were right! 😎
@@wayalife Glad to see what you can do working from stock. Making it better.
