  • Wheeling your Jeep is the best way to know what mods, if any, it really needs or could benefit from. And, after a year of wheeling Pippi, our stock JL Wrangler 2-Door Sport, it had become clear to Cindy and I, what one of them might be for her - a new front bumper. In this video, you'll get to see what we decided to replace the big, wide and plastic one that came on her from the factory and why, as well as how to get it installed.

    This series is so exciting for me. I never see many if any big Jeep RUclipsrs doing 2 door jeeps, so this is refreshing to see. As someone who owns and has been modifying my 2 door JK

      agree 100%. Jeep designers knocked it out of the ballpark with the factory steel bumper with it's versatility and style. For sure have to remove the end caps and it already looks badass and gives you a great approach angle. Added a winch, a couple extra amber lights and the winch cover bar loop which was surprisingly easy to install and also inexpensive.

      I'm honestly thinking of pulling the one off my Gladiator Rubicon, and keeping it for the '23 Wrangler Willys I have on order now. Only thing I would do is swap out the tow hook from the Rubicon red to the Sport black ones, since the red wouldn't go well with the purple and black. I might lose a few bucks on my trade value with an aftermarket bumper on it, but I will save abut $1000-1200 between the steel bumper and the winch plate.

    I 100% appreciate you calling out the torque and actually torquing things I don’t see on other channels. Even on things like a bumper that I’m sure would be fine if you just made sure it was “good and tight”. Really makes me appreciate your videos. Keep up the good work!

    I really like the path you two are taking with Pippi. Not only have you shown exactly why a stubby bumper is important, it also looks better. I think putting the air dam on was a good call. IMO that is where a good bit of fuel economy it lost, and people wheeling on a budget will probably be mindful of fuel cost, too. It can easily be removed if it needs to.

    Nice mod. I'll be getting one of these on my Sport Gladiator after a front end collision that destroyed the plastic one (among other items). Should arrive in a few days. I'll be getting at least a $425 credit toward the new one for that cheap plastic one! I just like the clean look of the Rubicon bumper over all others. I ended up springing for nutserts, never thought of using regular bolts. Great idea.

    That's pretty cool that you can interchange a lot of parts between different models. So you can basically pick and choose what you want to do with your lighter spec'd rig. I am sure there are a lot of 'throwaway' parts out there since so many ditch all the factory stuff and load up with aftermarket.

    • @wayalife

    Budget friendly and "near stock/light mods" is a great way to get into the hobby especially if it is your daily driver.
    From my point of view and with other hobbies that embrace "built not bought" is that you replace these things when they fail. Lift and tires after 25K miles when you need tires and so on....
    This is series is at a good pace and is a great point of you , thank you including us on this Jeep!

I love seeing all the wild ways we customize our Jeep's but something refreshing to see a very basic/factory style Jeep and seeing what it's capable of. I think most of us who are following knew this bumper would end up on Pipi. I think she is my favorite build on the net right now. I still think the factory steel bumpers are the best looking but... for my use, I needed a winch mount and tow bar mounts. When ordering, by the time I added those items to the cost of factory steel bumpers the cost was more than enough to just buy arguably better aftermarket bumpers with the features I needed. Plus, I ended up with a rear bumper that doesn't fold up and dent my tub when I bounce off of ledges.
    I removed the plastic ones and sold the front with some other parts and gave the rear awat to a vet you had been rear ended.
    Thanks for sharing.

The % we've been getting has never been bad and we've always refinanced our Jeeps after 6 months to get it even lower. Please say HI to Kent for me. Thanks for the video. Do you plan on leaving the bumper stubby or only when wheeling? I know on those rubicon bumpers you can add the sides that cover the wheel space so it looks like the old factory bumper you took off.

    It’s amazing how much plastic crap is on the jeep, it all gets brittle and cracks in time. My 2015 with 60k just had the oil filter housing go bad (major issue with the 3.6). I have it apart now and the whole top end is plastic, once it’s fixed it will be sold.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  2 года назад

      It sucks for sure but it's what's required to keep weight down. The feds make it so that vehicles are bigger and bigger for safety but that makes them heavier and heavier. Of course, that affects fuel economy. It's a vicious circle with no winning.

    Hi I love your videos. And one of the several reason why I got my very fist wrangler JL. Just have a question since im new to Jeep, its a manual JLU and every time I shift to from 1st to 2nd there is a rateling noise coming from the bottom of the car (not sure where) it have 30 miles and dealer said its normal. Drove and own several stick JDM in my time but it doent make and rattling noise when i shift to 2nd. Just like to know if its normal? Thanks again for all the vid!

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  2 года назад

      Not sure what you're hearing but depending on what it sounds like, I suppose it could be normal or it could be something like an exhaust shield that is loose.

    • @wayalife

      I assume you're asking about a front bumper? If so, if it came off a JT, it might but if it's from a JL, you would need to use the skid plate that comes with it.

    Hi Eddie, I apologize in advance if this has been asked before, but did you notice any noticeable dip of the front end now that you've had the steel bumper for over a year? I am about to do the same installation next weekend. Big thanks for all the fantastic content you are creating. Best Jeep channel by far.

    • @wayalife

      For better or for worse, the factory steel bumper really isn't that heavy. Certainly, not like a good aftermarket one made out of 1/4" steel. So, no, I saw no dip from installing it.

    I understand the need for fenders blocking the air going over the tires for better gas mileage. I understand the improvement that taking that off helps with approach angle. Surely someone has clever as you can set up a put on/take off system that blocks air over the tires for everyday use....but easily comes off for trail rides?????

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  Год назад +1

      It's funny but I've talked to my engineer friends at Jeep and apparently, those covers between the fenders and bumper do little to nothing to help improve mpg. However, the air dam and the muffler spoiler do help a lot.
