I love when people are courageous enough to post the MISTAKES!! Jeep or 4x4 communities can be RUTHLESS! I commend you for doing so!! I could post a ton of screw up videos as well lol!! Thanks bro keep throwing out good content!
The bumper struggle is a crazy road of trial and error. Inexpensive, or super expensive doesn't matter when they have a lousy design flaw. Major recovery is my main focus and now I'm definitely going to be looking for oval holes as an issue. Thanks for letting us know what's up.
I've run into issues like the elongated holes. I welded heavy duty washers on them so it wouldn't move. It doesn't solve the crappy service that DV8 gives but it's a helpful hint if you run into it with something else.
Both front and rear bumper on mine a re DV8 and it does flake off too. My D loop nipple on the bumper was way off and my DV8 hood fits like a 2 year old kid putting using grandpa's dentures. Shit don't fit. DV8 said to me the oval holes are to move the bumper closer or farther from the body.WHEN ARE WE WHEELING TOGETHER?
Lmao, well we see how tht design works 😂 Iv seen one of there hoods in person and I was shocked how lousy of a fit it was... so can’t act surprised... for what they charge... 100% UNACCEPTABLE
I have the exact DV8 bumper that I also got from Quadratec. I've had it for over 6 years. I bought it for many of the same reasons you did in that it had the backup lights and an integrated trailer hitch. The paint has not been an issue with mine. I am not an avid off-roader, so in my case it works well. However, I do like the design of the Cavfab better having seen the comparison between the two.
Just wanted to reach out and say this when I first installed my DV8 on my gladiator I completely just started cutting once I learned of clearance issues
First time buying a front bumber two months ago from 4wheel parts which was DV8 a came in the box with surface rust I was pissed! I sent it back and got fab four front bumber replacement.
Just installed the Rugged Ridge HD rear bumper on my JL this week. minimal branding, very secure mounting (2 side bolts on the frame rail and 2 bottom bolts on the frame rail, per side), and more than enough protection for the little wheeling I get to do. Honestly, it was more because of worry of having only plastic there, and FL drivers being FL drivers. And matches the Rugged Ridge Venator stubby I have on the front.
Now this is good info! I'm planning on buying a new Rubi soon and I've been looking at aftermarket bumpers. I was actually leaning towards the exact same DV8 as you had problems with but now I believe I'll lean elsewhere.
Sorry you were the litmus test for the DV8 bumper. But because of this video, you steered me to CAVFAB. I just picked up the CavFab JK Rampage rear bumper. I am very impressed with the material and workmanship of it. Dropped it off at the powder coater, and the owner remarked that he sees lots and Jeep bumpers, but this one was the best he has ever had come in. Thanks for your review, it helped me!!
I have some DV8 stuff and I have not had problems. The finish on most are crap nowadays. Bedline them right away. Smitty, DV8, the whole lot. Once you do, no issues. Tighten those bolts.
Glad to hear you have not had any issues with em... You are actually a small percentage of people to be able to tell me that. some parts I know prefer looking for bare steel,, bumpers are definitely one of them.... Them bolts were tight every time I readjusted it. like to the point it felt like it was going to break loose the nut on the jeep frame. There is just too much play in the mounting points and its so large it has to much leverage working against it when it gets hit. Thank you for watching, appreciate the comment hope to hear from you again!
I recently purchased the CAVFAB mid-width bumper. During install, my passenger side frame only has two holes alotted for bolt-in. Do I need to drill out 2 more to secure the bumper? Or should that work?
so what do you guys use to hold your spare tire up the Teraflex system or what???? Maybe do a video on the differences and why you chose to have a spare tire hinge set up versus the spare tire mounted to the bumper setup
Lol, I have the Cavfab HD tire carrier... misty has the Rusty’s HD tire carrier 😂 Benefits from the hinge mount.... More OFFROAD clearance Looks better And misty broke a hinge mounted one after digging it into the ground... 😂🙌
Any exposed steel will rust... high or low quality... it will rust. However the coating on this dv8 bumper was.... subpar at best... granted I offroad hard... Hard for me to recommend a bumper I haven’t seen up close 😬
Why the ultra over the micro? I’m installing fascia from Rusty’s Off-road and looking at their micro vs this cavfab ultra or Micro. Just curious as I want to avoid a mistake off and on road.
Nothing wrong with Rusty’s .... least as far as bumpers go. It’s more of a matter of preference... I just felt rusty bumpers looked... very basic... Cavfabs looked better imho... plus they had free shipping when I got this one... Wish I had gotten the ultra.... lol but this was about 2 months before they released it Still love this bumper thou.. been holding up great to all the abuse Both American companies...
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD Thanks for replying! So with the fascia, do the micro’s offer the needed level of protection or am I better to go with the ultra that covers a little more of the tub?
So really gonna depend what ur gonna want from ur bumper... the fascia cover is great but it’s thin and won’t hold to heavy use... it’s more so protection from minor hits, drags and scraps.... Tht being said, my wife’s jeep has the micro with fascia cover... we haven’t had an issue yet... she wheels as hard as me
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD good points. I do want clearance. I want some solid protection too. I don’t see myself doing anything more than what you’re doing. I was going with the oem steel rubi bumper with the cosmetic caps removed until I heard about the flexing issue. Someone told me I could still run the OEM w/the fascia but I still worry that it could flex and gouge the tub beyond the fascia??? I’m literally trying to sell it now which is proving difficult even though it’s in the box and hasn’t been installed. I had chosen the OEM for the mere fact that it keeps the license plate on the bumper. I’m not a fan of any of the plate relocations for the JL. Although now I’m looking at the tow hitch plate mount with an extreme/ultra rear. It would be easier had I not made the mistake of ordering the OEM before hearing about the flex issues or watching your video :)
I went with Tyger bumpers. When I got my bumper I installed it and didn’t realize a decent scratch until it was on. I emailed them and they sent a brand new bumper and told me to keep the other one.
I stopped buying after market bumpers for the rear of both Jeeps because we wheel them pretty hard. I had shop fab one and weld it onto both Jeeps. It's very high clearance and only have hit them once in the last 4 yrs on both Jeeps.
Granted I have a different situation I have an iron cross rear bumper for my Ford F-150 with those same adjustment holes. I just stuck on a snap on impact and rattled those on until they stopped and I have not had it move when I dragged the truck up a muddy hill with the shackle mounts. You just need to put them on as tight as possible without shearing off the bolts.
I had them on pretty tight... but my worry was if I went super ugga Duggar. I’d snap off the welded but on the frame and have a entire new problem on my hands
my dv8 bumpers have lasted well. My rugged ridge completely powder coat fail like your DV8. Must be a process issue. They should be the same every time.
I have a JK Willys 18'. However, I love watching your videos - You don't pull any punches) Your " know how" experience is exemplary. You always make me laugh. A perfect combination for keeping my attention. God bless you and yours)
Definitely.... stripping it off to redo should not be an option... seriously spray paint would of been a better option here 😂😂😂 kidding... but I’d rather get something bare steel over poor quality pre-coating
I liked the look of their bumpers, so I did some research. I asked them where they were made. They said “China” , I said “Thanks but no thanks” I went with JCR.
I wish I did more research on dv8 before I bought em... I kinda just went off of people on internet... but it’s how we learn I guess 🤷♂️ thanks for watching...
Very nice review, in regards of China made.... many, many US companies manufacture their products in China, smittybilt is one of many examples...but it depends on quality controls the owner of the brand request to the manufacturer...
I only use JCR, strongest bumpers around. The rock sliders have been beat on the KOH course and are just scratched. They also have hi lift point that locks the hi lift to the Jeep so it can’t kill you. Coating is pretty tough too! Best quality I’ve seen. Outclasses poison spider, gen right, metal clock, etc... I’m not sponsored or paid by then just have gotten amazing products from them that thrived in KOH
I bought a bumpers from dv8. I regret doing so. 3 months in and its starting to rust. ( neber been hit or scratched, its in corner welds) & it Does not fit properly. I messaged them and they don’t really help. I wish i had i done more research.
I'm looking for a rear bumper that is 15 yo kid proofl The neighbors permit driver thought the ford explorer was in r but he had it in d. No body damage but the plastic bumper is shot on the drivers side and a couple of scuffs on the body. I want something that looks good, is affordable, is easy to put on, and can take a hit without moving into the body.
Hey man great channel. In the video you mention that at one point you didn't know where to buy parts...how/where would you recommend someone find where to buy parts?
Glad to hear it. Northridge is a great place to start.... a lot of other places you can buy direct from.... Iv learned buying from places like, quadratic, Morris 4x4 and extreme terrain, thou occasionally offer decent product.. they mostly push cheaper parts,, which has it place, don't get me wrong. The CS from these same companies is hit and MISS.
I just installed a Cavfab mid width rear bumper. The bolt mounting holes are very tight (good thing), there’s no way that sucker will move like the DV8 does. Cavfab is a very well made bumper for a pretty decent price.
Everything Iv seen from them... Iv been impressed with the quality.. Also super awesome every step of their process of parts... everything is in the USA...
I’ve had many issues like yours with my DV8 rock slider side steps. Started rusting the first week with no off-roading. I won’t purchase from them ever again
www.google.com/search?q=license+plate+mount+jeep+jl&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS791US792&hl=en-US&prmd=sivn&sxsrf=ALeKk01QlFKRufJys0vrVGbrdtUBahnfwg:1603836616664&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwijjMH-5NXsAhWJWM0KHZVyAakQ_AUoAnoECB0QAg&biw=375&bih=640&dpr=3#imgrc=NFYkQhC98l3z9M&imgdii=1G1_dBJ-rywXSM Something like this?
I agree that the problem is the oversized holes. If someone was stuck with their purchase there is a work around. You could bolt it into place with flat washers on both sides and then after it is aligned, weld the nuts to the washers and then the washers to the frame on the one side and the bumber on the other. It wouldn’t take much of a weld at all to hold it solid. The bolts should have lock washers on them.
Yes tht is an option..just finding a friend with a welder... Lock washers would also be an idea. I hate it when u buy new parts and new hardware is not included 😂
I have intentions of swapping it out as well... but has held up better then the rear... we did a video chopping it up cause it was eating into my tires at heavy flex
mountainknife gotcha... yea after chopping the wings off... I stopped rubbing into it... Iv hit it plenty of times on rocks... it’s scratched up.. but not flaking to hell... off hand... I don’t really have any negative to say.... if u have a jl I had to modify the fog lights to fit thou...
I made the same rear bumper mistake. To add to your list it doesn't go well if you have a factory hitch, no room to use a locking hitch pin and you have to modify how you mount the trailer light receptacle, there's no way to mount it to the bumper or use as is in the factory location. I won't buy anything DV8 again.
Someone told me that this was a JK design that they just altered the mounts in order to fit on a JL.... which would explain the JK instructions included with it. But that answers a lot of questions for me. They clearly did not check for proper fitment with this. I watched a YT channel have to grind out sections of their rear tire carrier in order to make it fit. well, two actually. Ill never give DV8 money again either
I agree with everything you said,,,I also have a rear dv-8 bumper on my Jk. It’s 2 years old and the powder coating is all flaking off and it also moves and damaged my tub in the exact spot as your.
I normally would contact the company first to see if they will make things right. It seems that DV8 had at least given you an offering for the inconvenience. The fact that you accepted it, which wrapped it all up from them being liable from here on. I had problems with FOX shocks and they dismissed me with a dumb email. I will trash their customer service department and share my experience with them with others. I give you mad respect for being honest with your product reviews and sharing it with us.
The free product was sent after the poor coating.. not the flexing into the tub... Tht was a completely different issue... I will never lie when reviewing a product.. a brand or a part... if they try to make it right... great... I’ll mention that too, but I will not conceal facts for free parts... Tht betrays trust with viewers... and continues to allow a company to not try to improve.. 🤷♂️ I appreciate your feedback thou.. it’s always great to read what people have to say
Nice video, what products do you use the to protect the metal from rust/salt causing discoloration. Thank you. By the way. That was funny the way your little one reacted "Nooooo", even she knew that cost money.. thank you
Lol, an instant classic 😂🙌 I used raptor liner when I covered the bumper... cheap and easy to do... I can link the video if u would like? However I get routine scratches from offroading.... I typically just touch put with black matte spray paint when I do.
When you finally get a jeep and want to do some offroad upgrades go find some locals that do some hardcore offloading with their jeeps and ask for advice on parts!
Great points. I purchased road armor for my rear for the same reason you are pointing out. Another friend showed me his dv8 bumper and warned me about them and the inner fender wheel well liners. They won't stop railing on his jeep
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD I have the barracade front bumper, its doing great, but eventually I'm going to get the road armor front to match everything else. I have road armor out fenders, inner fender lining and rear bumper. All pricy but they are doing pretty good and have taken a bit of beating and you can't even tell.
No worries man... not tryna throw shade at anyone... but letting people know the issues Iv had with mine... hoping lighting a fire under dv8s butt so they try harder...😂 as long as u don’t beat on it... I’m sure it will be fine... i wheel.. aggressive
I wheel aggressive as well and surprisingly both front and rear are still as solid as can be! I think my rear is a bit different as it doesn’t have the lights. The issue now is the grinding in my front axle area....may have been a little too aggressive...any ideas for me there?
Well damn....looks like It might be time to upgrade it all from stock....any suggestions or maybe a new video showing what you have and how hard you can beat them!? Shit, I’m even down to beat mine the rest of the way with you if you find yourself wanting to trail here in the Mojave Desert!
Juan Hartman I have been wanting to do a video like tht for a few months now... I think it will be in the next few weeks.. Mojave would be a hella fun trip 🤔
MO!!! Thanks for your help today on the FB!! Got it figured out..... THANKS to your video at 7:08 showed me what I needed to know. Now I have to figure out these damn back up sensors. What did you end up doing with your tow light bracket? Mine is in the way of my bumper.
JL LIFE OFFROAD Thank you! I searched your channel once I spotted it in your garage, but was not able to find the video. I just supposed that it didn’t exist because of the JKL focused content.
Jeep Dude lmao... Iv been getting parts and tools in and ready to start working on it soon... currently have three videos on it... and I actually created the playlist when I read ur comment...
What spare tire carrier and door hinge are you running? It took a decent hit there at the end and seems to have held up well. New to the jeep world and have been watching a ton of your videos.
Congrats and welcome to the awesome world and hobby! On my jeep, I have the cavfab carrier... it’s a badass carrier. If you ever have questions! Or even video suggestions! Let me know!!
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD I just watched that install video also, great job! The pro tip at the end about letting the air out of your spare probably saved you a ton also... Thank you!
Just curious - I went onto cavfabs website looking for the rear bumper you featured in the video. I see that they have a number of different types, could you be a little more specific as to which one you put on your Jeep ? Any help would be appreciated Thanks
Yea of course, the link is in the description, but Here it is friend www.cavfab.com/CavFab-JL-JLU-Predator-Mid-Width-Rear-Bumper_p_333.html Lemme know if it don’t work 🙌🙌🙌
Not sure anyone mentioned this yet about the dv8 bumper but you’ll also have a problem fitting a pin in for any towing. I’m trying to sell my bumper now. Letting them know this bumper is not made for towing. Great video. Thanks for sharing
Great video. I bought a 2020 JL a couple months ago and is preparing to change out the bumpers before i hit the rocks. I almost made mistakes when searching so thanks for the knowledge.
DV8 rear bumper with swingout spare. Swing out bolts and soft steel allowed the holes to wallow out resulting in the framing to fail allowing 110lbs of tire wheel almost fall off at speed. DV8 to their credit sent me new parts…….but no underwear. Live and learn. The greatest regret comes from the disappointment of learning ya get what ya pay for as your joy from a great deal fades. Would I buy DV8? No. Great vid no fluff.
Thanks, I think it looks great. Im likely going to get the Rustys Fascia Corner guard to install. But not to worried about it, after all the abuse I did to the DV8 one, I never hit it beyond where this bumper ends. It always caught off the ass end.
JL LIFE OFFROAD - do you have a link cor the corner guards from Rustys? I did the exact thing to my bumper and body that you did. I’m looking for a new bumper, but would like to look into the corner trim pieces. Thanks.
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD do you know anyone who has the ADD Offroad Rear Stealth Fighter Bumper for 18-20 Jeep Wrangler JL? And if the had a good solid experience with it ? Thank you
0311Devil Dog so I actually know someone who has the rear... we were talking about it after we published this video... she said she is replacing it cause it was thin and bending... she does the rubicon several times a year... I was blown away to hear tht.... ADD is EXPENSIVE
Yea... Iv seen tht one.. I’ll be honest with u.. the lack of care with everything Iv seen dv8... I wouldn’t recommend anything they make.. there are a lot of company’s tht make a stubby rear bumper... which is just like ur describing... we actually have one on our silver jeep, heathen
JL LIFE OFFROAD thanks I will check it out appreciate your honesty about the products. I don’t want to have to do this 2 or 3 times like someone else I know...
Dude. Tape a line across the back. Sand, prime and rhino line the body behind the bumper. It blends with the bumper and cover the blemishes caused by that other POS and it's something you could do super easy.
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD That works too.... I'm starting over on a new rig. I can't decide how far I want to take it. Problem is that I'm falling in love with it stock. 2003 GX470. It is soooooo good at being a luxo SUV, but it is very capable off road too as a Land Cruiser. Decisions, decisions.
I run a Ram offroad and had the same issue as you (too wide). Most manufacturers think is already long what's another 9 inches. Since there was none on the market that hugged the bed (being so long you need every inch you can get ;)) so I started my own company. Great channel, might subscribe :)
Large seems like a great idea, until you start to realize how often you hit things! LOL wheeling a Ram off-road sounds like a fun thing to watch! LOL Whats your company?? And we would definitely appreciate the sub if you decide to do so! LOL We appreciate each and everyone!
I kinda like the oval slots for mounting stuff. Gives that wiggle room till you get it right, it does mean they don’t have precise measurements. But just an uneven surface can make attaching hard if it’s perfect holes. The nuts and washers with grip on the ends help prevent slipping. Especially once you torc them down to 130ft lbs or something like that.
Looks like your new bumper has some good advertising cut right in to it. I have the DV8 and not had the rust issues. I agree its close to the tub. But like you ,I got mine in May of 18 not much to pick from. I have the baracade front bumper, and no rust there either. Your new bumper does look good. I also got the skid plate from them. It is heavy duty. I got mine for 425.00.
Rust where I hit the bumper... I expect... flaking chips parts where I don’t... is... I feel like ur implying I was being biased in this video... every point I made was true... honest.. I’m no part snob... let people run whatever they spend their money on.. articulating facts in this video seems to be a much better way voicing my opinion rather then screaming “dv8 is junk” on the web.. And with the intention of being fair... I put the new bumper through the same circumstance the dv8 failed... If cavfab ain’t ur flavor... that’s fine... I don’t sell their parts... plenty of great product manufacturers out there... cavfab is just the one I landed on. Thanks for watching 🙌 appreciate your time both watching and commenting. Stay safe!
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD I didn't imply that at all. Just noticed how the new bumoer had its name on it. You're the one that made the comment about the DV8 branding. I have the skid plate and you can't hardly make that out. I took off the DV8 tag on the rear bumper. I don't think any of these company's should be branding there products like that. Its like a dealer sticker on the back of your new vehicle. No offense .
Gotcha... u cleared it up... like I said... branding is fine... just needs to be subtle... the dv8 bumper ain’t bad with the branding... but their inner fenders HORRIBLE... rough country is another brand tht over brands... I just think someone should have to investigate a piece to see what it is.. not see what it is while ur driving from the other side of the road.. passing another jeep...
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD Oh I meant the new one from CavFab lol, I was looking at their website and it says it comes in "raw steel" and yours looks like it has a texture on it.
Oh my bad 😂, I raptor lined it.... cheap and easy for something I would be banging around on rocks... ruclips.net/video/RRDnKvagH8g/видео.html Here a how to video On it.
I had tht thought... but several things pushed me away from tht decision I hated the coating... didn’t want to sandblast and resurface it.. Hated how cumbersome it was and hitting it often Didn’t want to support their company on my jeep any more. Figured I’d I continued to put stress on those limited mounting points... it was only a matter of time before I broke something else... like breaking off the nuts on the frame....
You need some rear panel rock skidders that underlap your bumper a little.. that thing looks like a dirt scooper alone.. I personally didnt like the look of the rear dv8, my fs 15 front stubbies have been fine.. yea.. i do agree the powder coating is Lacking in thickness . However.. i always add adhesive and Rhino line em to my standard.. get used to respraying the rhino. Rocks dont forgive .
Depends what I are looking for... if ur looking for an over part seller.. I’d recommend rebel OFFROAD or Northridge... But if course they don’t sell every brand either...
Perhaps this was mentioned already, and not to defend the dv8 bumper, but you are comparing apples and oranges. The DV8 bumper is designed for a swing out tire carrier and the cavfab is not. That is why it was larger.
love the The flashback to all them years ago, that hurt to watch the hit! Giving kev an brit a run for their money with the brand new jeep hitting trails hard lol
Looks great just order it actually!! Question for you though since your running 37s! Did you need an relocation kit for the spare to fit or was there enough clearance to leave it in the stock position?
Good question... and i can’t answer it... when I went from a 35-38 tire.. I upgraded my carrier... 😬 it very well... WILL fit with this bumper... but I’d caution you from using one of them brackets...they are not very strong... and will lead to rattling.. Thts a lot of weight to be shaking all the time... I mean... can u use a relocation bracket / stock carrier for an over sized tire? Yes... should U? I’d say no.. But I feel I went off the rails here.. Iv seen other people bolt on a 37 to their stock carrier... they all said it worked... but started to notice issues with noises in the hinges... I hope this helped.. I know spare carriers are expensive 😬
JL LIFE OFFROAD that is beyond helpful! I’ve got the reinforcement bracket for the door and the relocation for the license plate I was just debating about putting on the relocation for the spare as well… You’ve given me a ton of knowledge I did not have before! Not to mention me and my boy love watching your videos it’s one of the only things he will sit down and watch nonstop!
Ive only owned a JK for a few years. I have found that there are way more garbage options that are only designed to tough with no real function at all than there are parts that work well. I think the first clue is how big the brand name is on it. I have great bumpers, front with winch and rear with heavy spare mount, I have bounced them off of all kinds of things with no damage at all and have no idea who made them.
It’s all part of the learning experience everyone goes through... granted.. this was literally the only steel rear bumper out at the time.. I thought dv8 was good.. I mean.. I see their junk EVERYWHERE
As a jeep owner and a hobby tinkererer, I know about the issues he is talking about. Here is the solution. Either live with the issues, buy an expensive bumper, make or have made a rear bumper, or have a cheaper store bought bumper professionally powder coated (the cheap Chinese plastic coating is closer to undercoating than powder coating). Either way you go you need to have the bumper welded in place. I did this previously with my Ford F350 heavy duty aftermarket bumper and no matter how many times or how hard I kicked the trailer hitch with my shin the bumper always felt very solid and didn't budge an inch (or millimeter). Bottom line you can't get a custom $2,000.00 bumper for $500.00. And if you do get a mass produced cheap bumper remember they are designed to fit all the vehicles and all the possible production variations that happen. If you still want a cheap bumper and use it like an custom expensive one at least have the adjustment/mounting slots filled with something as simple as a piece of metal so there is no longer "adjustment" left in the slot so upon impact, there is no room for the bumper to slide or move. Pretty simple, just have to think about it. There is an old saying : if you can't afford to do it right the first time, where will you find the money to do it right the second time!
This being acceptable is why it continues... it’s not... a lot of people who don’t know what to look for... deserve to know and see what issues there are... the common “don’t run that” u hear from anyone online is usually from people who are only relaying what they have heard or someone tryna Sell their own stuff. nobody has to spend $3000 on a bumper to be happy with it. And I will not weld on a bumper I’m not happy with, there are better designs out there tht hold it tight and together... and I show tht in the video. This video shows people not all bumpers are equal...
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD just to be clear since I might not have sounded like it to you, I liked your video and agree with the cheap bumpers that are expensive to buy and disappoint. Sorry if it came across wrong. Just trying to add my $0.02 about another way to prevent bumper creep and a little humor about how I hit my shin on my bumper hitch like twice a week till I sold my truck.....most painful 3 years of my life. 😀

Well, iv yet to hit that far back with all my wild crap I do. Even when the DV8 was there, never had a hit mark that far back. But their are two options, 1. CAVFAB makes a full length bumper that wraps all the way around. I wanted to avoid a full width thou. 2. The Rustys pinch seem piece

I have the exact DV8 bumper that I also got from Quadratec. I've had it for over 6 years. Just wanted to reach out and say this when I first installed my DV8 on my gladiator I completely just started cutting once I learned of clearance issues
I wonder if you would have turned more to the left on the exit if the bumper and spare tire would have cleared the obstacle?
🤷♂️ it was a really big drop... of course video don’t do it justice
But I run my spare super low psi for situations just like this
First time buying a front bumber two months ago from 4wheel parts which was DV8 a came in the box with surface rust I was pissed!
What kind of protection will it give you if you take a shot from another vehicle?
I’d be more worried about whoever rear ends me 😂
Now this is good info! I'm planning on buying a new Rubi soon and I've been looking at aftermarket bumpers. I was actually leaning towards the exact same DV8 as you had problems with but now I believe I'll lean elsewhere.
Please do! Mall crawling... it will be fine.. this is NOT an OFFROAD bumper...
Btw... exciting! New jeep!!! 🙌🙌
Just happy I saved u some money and steered u to a happy decision! 🙌🙌 thanks for watching!!
Does the hitch have a tow rating? If so what is it?
Flex on the bumper or bend your frame rails ? The price you pay when you play
I recently purchased the CAVFAB mid-width bumper. During install, my passenger side frame only has two holes alotted for bolt-in. Do I need to drill out 2 more to secure the bumper? Or should that work?
Send me pictures on my instagram
so what do you guys use to hold your spare tire up the Teraflex system or what???? Maybe do a video on the differences and why you chose to have a spare tire hinge set up versus the spare tire mounted to the bumper setup
Lol, I have the Cavfab HD tire carrier... misty has the Rusty’s HD tire carrier 😂
Benefits from the hinge mount....
More OFFROAD clearance
Looks better
And misty broke a hinge mounted one after digging it into the ground...
😂🙌
So would you recommend a American Truck Barricade Extreme HD Rear Bumper ?
Also why did your old barricade bumper had rust ?
Wish I had gotten the ultra.... lol but this was about 2 months before they released it
Still love this bumper thou.. been holding up great to all the abuse
Both American companies...
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD Thanks for replying! So with the fascia, do the micro’s offer the needed level of protection or am I better to go with the ultra that covers a little more of the tub?
I was leaning towards Rusty’s for that very reason... basic/traditional. My front bumper has that same look (for now).
Why is there shinny tube on the passenger side axle tube where it goes into the diff? That could be really bad..
Rubbing from the diff skid I had on before hand... I’m planning on welding the tubes and welding on a rear truss soon.
I stopped buying after market bumpers for the rear of both Jeeps because we wheel them pretty hard. I had shop fab one and weld it onto both Jeeps. It's very high clearance and only have hit them once in the last 4 yrs on both Jeeps.
That’s awesome man 🙌🙌🙌 fabbing is my ultimate goal... just building the skills and tools
Why didn't you get a MOVE bumper? I bought a front and a rear one for my F150 and I haven't had any of the issues you mentioned.
Granted I have a different situation
I have an iron cross rear bumper for my Ford F-150 with those same adjustment holes.
What license plate holder are you using up on your spare??
Cavfab tail gate reinforcement plate
my dv8 bumpers have lasted well. My rugged ridge completely powder coat fail like your DV8. Must be a process issue. They should be the same every time.
Dv8 seems to have a massive quality control standard
What tire carrier are you running in this video and does it rattle?
Cavfab and no rattle
I have a JK Willys 18'. However, I love watching your videos - You don't pull any punches) Your " know how" experience is exemplary. You always make me laugh. A perfect combination for keeping my attention. God bless you and yours)
I have had bad powder coating on Jeep bumpers and it really sucks!
Live an learn… if I counted the amount of money I wasted on crappy parts Iv put on and took off my jeep…. Lol it would be a few thousand 😂
Cavfab is my go to… solid product, made in America and takes a beating.
Motobilt would be my #2
I'm glad I did research and went with poison Spyder never had a problem and money well spent. Great to hear your experience with that bumper.
So how is the bumper now? Does it hold up?
No complaints with it, holding up well and been abused plenty
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD and how much to powder coat it once you receive it?
I just installed a Cavfab mid width rear bumper. The bolt mounting holes are very tight (good thing), there’s no way that sucker will move like the DV8 does. Cavfab is a very well made bumper for a pretty decent price.
Everything Iv seen from them... Iv been impressed with the quality.. Also super awesome every step of their process of parts... everything is in the USA...
Why not AEV Bumpers ??
I’ve had many issues like yours with my DV8 rock slider side steps. Started rusting the first week with no off-roading. I won’t purchase from them ever again
Yea... someone told me mall rated... perfect way to explain it
Are you going to do anything to protect the corners of your tub? I like the new bumper, but it does look like it leaves the tub corners unprotected.

@@JLLIFEOFFROAD That’ll work. Thanks!
Always happy to help!
Nice video. How about front bumper ?
I have intentions of swapping it out as well... but has held up better then the rear... we did a video chopping it up cause it was eating into my tires at heavy flex
JL LIFE OFFROAD I was looking at that bumper. Was want to know if it was holding up well
mountainknife gotcha... yea after chopping the wings off... I stopped rubbing into it... Iv hit it plenty of times on rocks... it’s scratched up.. but not flaking to hell... off hand... I don’t really have any negative to say.... if u have a jl I had to modify the fog lights to fit thou...
JL LIFE OFFROAD that’s not bad. Especially for the price
Any videos on the J10?
Yea, should be a play list on the channels page
If you used lock washer the bumper might not move anymore worth a try
Do you deflate your rear tire for this reason?
Yes
I agree with everything you said,,,I also have a rear dv-8 bumper on my Jk. It’s 2 years old and the powder coating is all flaking off and it also moves and damaged my tub in the exact spot as your.
Blows my mind people recommend them so much... those brand ambassadors and their 10% coupons 😂😂😂
Iv learned my lesson...

Absolutely! Thank you for taking your time and watching the video! 🙌
Seems the only time I see DV8 "hold up" is when its strictly on road use. For their prices, you would not think that was the case.
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD I have the barracade front bumper, its doing great, but eventually I'm going to get the road armor front to match everything else.

What are some companies you would recommend purchasing from? I noticed you mentioned Quadratec etc.
LMAO, my boy screaming "NOOOOOOO" kills me every time! Id be lying to say they didn't help inspire me LOL
Got that bumper with chips right away. I got it sand blasted and rhino lined before I even put it on.
Yea, there packaging is severely lacking
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD and engineering is terrible. The tire carrier to that bumper was engineered by a deaf guy who couldn’t hear rattle.
I Have seen a few installs on the jl... required some absurd modifications to make fit.
Thts awesome! Glad to hear tht y’all been enjoying em and finding uses from it all! Appreciate your support my friend! Hope we never lose it!
So you bought the minivan of Wranglers, and the bumper is the issue with departure angle? Interesting, interesting indeed......
Hey, what's the brand of the tire carrier?
Tht is the cavfab HD tire carrier... love it... it’s been great... holding strong 🙌🙌
We are good friend! 🙌 appreciate ur input.. I feel the same way about my wife’s stinger bumper... I can’t even tell u how many times iv been checked by tht darn thing lol
Looks pretty good but it doesn’t protect the pinch seam behind the tire .
Well, iv yet to hit that far back with all my wild crap I do. Even when the DV8 was there, never had a hit mark that far back. But their are two options,
1. CAVFAB makes a full length bumper that wraps all the way around. I wanted to avoid a full width thou.
2. The Rustys pinch seem piece
JL LIFE OFFROAD yeah i like how small this cavfab bumper is but i like the ones that wraps a little bit more around the corners .
No worries... everyone has their opinion... 🤷♂️
Don’t mind me... I’m just unfriending you now 🙌😂
JL LIFE OFFROAD 🤣🤣 the only dislike is me lmao
Oh! U! Son! Of! A! Bitch! 😂😂😂😂😂
