Great Tires for a Daily Driver Jeep Wrangler that are also Awesome on Off Road Trails

- After our last trail run out on the rocks with Pippi, our stock Jeep JL Wrangler 2-Door Sport, Cindy and I decided that it was finally time to buy her a new set of tires. But then came the real question of - what tires should we get? Rubicon take offs? A new set of mud terrains like always? Or, maybe something a bit more street friendly like a set of all terrains? In this video, you'll get to see what we ultimately decided to buy and why.

Looking great guys. Would love to see Pippi do that same trail as before, would be a fun comparison on traction.
That is something that we might be able to do 👍
I agree. It would be nice to see the difference the new shoes make.
Great idea I concur 👊
@@wayalife good day sir, love pipi videos! She looks great! Question for you? What color are the rubi rims you installed on her? Black, grey, or charcoal? She looks awesome, just can't tell on video. Want something similar for my gladiator sport. Keep them coming!
@@richardbassett5662 The new wheels are charcoal gray.
Love the “no lift” look! So clean!
Thanks! We like it too.
I love how you are evolving the jeep by staying in the bounds of stock-like expectations. Keeping the suspension, geometry, overall weight, and tire scrub radius the same is what counts most as stock. Everything else is just minor mods that makes life on trails better. Wonderful series @Wayalife 👍 thoroughly enjoy this content and I'm a huge fan of Pippi
Thank you. We really are happy to know there are people like you out there who can appreciate what we're doing with Pippi. 😎
this still counts as stock, for all those people that are gonna complain about it
Thank you! We think so too 👍
Wrong….Pipi’s Nito Ridge Grapplers are not stock….this is fact….not opinion
the tires would have needed to be replaced after some time anyways@@jsantiago5896
Man, that looks really good! What a difference wheels/tires make on these Jeeps! Nice upgrade to Pippi! 👍😁
Thank you and yes, we totally agree 😎
I really love what your doing with Pippi. It’s great to see how capable a Sport can be.
Awesome! We're so glad to hear it. 👍
I love this series that you are doing with Pippi. I feel that most of people don't realize how capable their stock 4x4 is, Jeep or otherwise. Hats of to the two of you for the great content and I'm looking forward to more.
Awesome! We're so happy to hear you're liking our Pippi Project. 👍
I discovered this just recently. I bought a 2015 Wrangler Sahara to 'off-road' with some buddies. One friend has a 2023 Rubicon with all the factory bells and whistles (VERY capable). Another has a 2019 with all the after market bells and whistles.
So long as clearance wasn't the issue (and it was) I could do everything they could on Pirelli Scorpion Road tires.
@@johnspurrier0001m
Love this entire project Pippi series. Very relatable to the Jeep newbies like me. Keep up the GREAT work !
Glad you enjoy it! 😎
With inflation and everything being so expensive these days, it’s nice to see a proper budget minded build that is still very capable and functional.
Awesome! We're glad to hear you can appreciate what we're trying to do with Pippi 😎
I have travelled for 24 consecutive months in a Rubicon and trailer in every state except Hawaii and Alaska in BLM Lands, National Parks, State Parks, and private lands and in every weather condition known to human kind. That includes states of emergency travel for ice, thunderstorms, snowstorms, flooding, fires, and hail storms that shut states down for days to weeks. All on the same set of original tires. As of today that is 74,223 miles all on the original set of 37’s Nitto Ridge Grapplers (37 X12.50 R 18 LT). There is still a comfortable tread on them.. There is no better tire on the market anywhere. And when I replace these indestructible long lasting tires I’m going to mount one of the tires and send it to Nitto’s CEO as a momentous achievement of a great product. There is no better tire. Period!
Great review of the tire!
Man, that looks great, and they’ll be a lot more sure-footed on the trail! I run my Michelins on the stock steel wheels in the winter.
Thank you and I will have to admit, the Michelins really did well in the winter. May have to consider hanging on to them for just that.
Hi
I love all your videos and follow them all the time could you give me your opinion on a sahara with 255/70/18 if its possible toput rubicon wheels and tyres 285/70/17 and keep it stock
Yes, you should be able to do it just like you see in this video.
Loving it!!!
This is exactly what I talked about on a previous Pippi Video.... Love the recycling and I'm sure you must have a spare 2½" lift kit floating around too 😁😂
Budget builds are often the most satisfying plus I'm Loving the almost "Stock Jeep Look"😍😍😍
Awesome! Glad to hear it and thank you.
As an owner of a Sport S with no lift on 33s, I knew those tires wouldn't rub. I've had mine fully flexed out and gotten no rubbing. I'm considering some 34s for mine. 35s will work with no rubbing if you're just running around town but with no lift, they start to rub when you flex them out. Upgrading to a 285/75/R17 would give a little more clearance but wouldn't be so wide as to cause problems when flexed. I might upgrade to a small spacer lift in the future, idk. The wife is 5'4" and already has problems getting in as it is.
Looks so bad a$$ with the new tires. I’m getting 33” falkens put on my wrangler in two days. I’m so excited. 😂
Congratulations to you!
thank you for this series. I am investing in a new Wrangler Willys JL and it gives me a good place to start.
Awesome! So glad to hear our Pippi videos are helpful to you 👍
Seems like the Nitto Ridge Grappler is the “go-to” tire. Everyone seems to love them. Great choice!
I can't speak for everyone but we like them a lot, especially for how we use them on this Jeep. It should be noted that we did purposefully get ours in a load range C. We did this for ride comfort as the E, while strong in the side wall, is pretty rough.
3:44 am Spring Break 2024: Just finishing up a long weekend with loved ones off roading at Big Bend National Park Texas, earning another Black Gap Pass Badge. My stock 2020 JL Rubicon has done stellar service, here and Colorado’s Black Bear Pass, Poughkeepsie Gulch and other trails. Now it’s time to change the tires, so thank you for the suggestion!
Happy Trails! 🤠
Sounds like you had a great time!
my old orange jack doesnt hold its pressure anymore.. .. it still works just very slowly goes down over a period of hour or so.. thanks for the video.
Sounds like maybe your bleeder valve o-ring needs to be replaced.
It’s amazing what a set of wheel and tires can do for a Wrangler. I just put on some Rubicon take offs on my Sport and I love it.
Really does make a big difference.
Oh man that editing 👌🏻 you guys go that extra mile and that music 👌great content coming from a ecodiesel gladiator owner great looking rig 👍👍
Thank you. We're so happy to hear you can appreciate all the efforts we put into our videos.
Another great video!
Thank you my friend 😎
I love this! I have your exact jeep in a 4 door. How does the lower gear ratio handle the extra unsprung weight of those tires (particularly 5 & 6th gear). Do the LT tires ride harder than what you had or does the extra sidewall soak up the bumps better? I can feel the Rubi suspension coming next!! Love the music and video quality of your channel!
I can't say that I've ever though of 5th and 6th as being anything other than overdrive gears. I have found all the real power is in 3rd and it still is. We purposefully got these tires in a load range C. That helps them to be comfortable. What soaks up bumps better is running them at a lower than factory psi. I like to run about 30 psi. Happy to hear you're liking our videos 😎
What did you do with the TPMS sensors from the original? Did you put them in the new ones or just install without? And if you installed without…do you get a warning light on the dash?
I was able to score 300 mile 285/70/17 BFG KO2s for $900, set of 5! Will be putting them onto Mojave rims I got for $200 on my Gladiator. Sure will be a big improvement over the stock Bridgestone Duelers. They wore out after less than 20,000. I was tempted by the Nittos though. Pippi is looking great.
If the Bridgestone tires wore out in less than 20,000 miles, you have a problem.
Of all the things you've done so far Eddie I really like what you did with that tailgate on that old Jeep you have. But I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place I currently run 33 on my stock JL however I really like to go up to 35 in I do have three and a half inch lift kit on it currently so I feel 35s will clear however some have told me to change my gears if I'm going up to 35 and some said my stock gear should be okay what do you think? Thanks
Just put 35" tyres on my TJ. Need to relearn how to gracefully get in and out again. 🙃
LOL - congrats on the new shoes.
I have boss Baja Boss a/t 33x12.50 on stock rims..2020 wrangler sport..no rub on the street...
Waiting for the Rubicon suspension upgrade. I put a 4 door hardtop shocks and springs into my 2 door soft top and got almost 2 inches of lift for less than $100
Nice! Congrats to you on getting a good deal 👍
Ryan.
We can buy the Wrangler or the Gladiator
I'm liking the folding
back seat with a roof rack, on th Wrangler. Our possesions are mighty few.
Except this whopper blue diamond pendant. he he.
Great choice of tires. I have a 2020 sport s and did just like you guys did and went up to 285/70/R17 but BFG KO2. Haven’t had an rubbing issues yet with moderate wheeling, but haven’t gone full flex. But you can resolve that issue by getting the rubicon high fender flairs.
It's a great size for sure.
Tires look great. A 1 or 2 inche lift will set that Jeep right off without veering too far from stock.
Thank you and you're probably right 🤪
Function obviously takes priority over form, but it's a major bonus when form gets upgraded in the process 👍 I'm guessing a Rubi take off suspension upgrade is in the works.
Ya never know what's coming next. You'll just have to stay tuned 😁
Looks awsome! I want to thank you because of u I bought the same tire and size for my jeep unbelievable! One of the best things I have bought for my jeep before it sounded like a jet plane now I can talk to my kids going on the hwy with the doors off thanks again!!!
That is so awesome! So glad to hear you're just as happy with your tires as we are. 👍
Question I have 2020 jeep JL like pippi. I what to run a 285 70 17 like you did will a stock front bumper be in the way
Pippy's looking awesome!!
Thank you! :)
Dang right it matters. Made in U.S.A.
Awesome! 👍
👍👍
💟
This is escalating slowly 🤙
LOL - well, that's kind of the plan. Hope you're liking it :)
I think remaining “OEM” would be a better description than “Stock”
LOL - yeah, that works for me.
New to your channel...interesting names that you have for your
" stable " of jeeps!!
Thanks for sharing 👍!!
👍🐾🐺🧙♂️🐺🐾👍!!!
Thanks and welcome
Hell yeah. That's what I'm thinking about. It looks amazing. Now a Rubicon suspension to keep it stock as possible.. .🤘⭐⭐⭐⭐
Well, ya never know what's coming down the road.
I have the jl rubicon shocks and springs and sway bar link you can have for nothing to put on the awesome jeep
That Jeep looks great! I’m about to pull the pin on either a Willys 2 door or a Gladiator Ecodiesil. We already have a Wrangler Willys Ecodiesel. Seeing what you do with Pippi I would be totally happy with the 2 door Willys.
Honestly, I don't think you could go wrong with either 👍
Great channel. Just got a 2024 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. I’m salivating watching you with all the modifications that you do. Unfortunately I can’t afford it. Quick question can I put a 35 if not 33 tires on my Jeep. Thank you 🙏
Without any lift or other modifications, you can run 33s, just like you see in this video. 35's do require a spacer lift at the very least.
Matches your stickers too . lol
LOL
Nice can't believe you were able to hold out this long! Definitely shaping up to be a solid OEM+ unit. Probably as much or more than what a large percentage of people would actually need to get to and back home from wherever they may roam!
LOL - I think it would have been harder to do if this Jeep weren't so capable as is.
I like Pippi’s front bumper, but what’s your fix for rubbing out on the trails??
Actually, we didn't have the kind of rubbing we were expecting. What we did have is this though... ruclips.net/video/M7AuI7OKHas/видео.html
@@wayalife Thanks for the reply! What bumper is on Pippi ? It almost looks factory
@@Caleb59826 It is. You can see it here ruclips.net/video/D4JvHX0Hj4I/видео.html
Wow! Looks awesome!
Thank you! We're pretty happy with the transformation too 😎
Looks great! I'm gonna take a guess and say you got some bump stops to add next! Hopefully not an actual lift! I'm loving seeing what a stock/oe jeep can do!
Dude pippy just keeps looking better and better! Super excited to see how she performs on the trail now!
Thank you and we hope to put her to the test soon.
I'm really loving these videos. Great job all around, glad I found ya!
Awesome! Happy to hear you're enjoying our videos :)
Love the truck
Thank you :)
Been holding out, playing the waiting game on 37" trail grapplers for the longest but I honestly see more and more people buying Ridge Grapplers and giving them pretty good reviews and given the fact there isn't hardcore wheeling in Florida I may just go that route. Might even swing for 38's, give my Gladiator some better proportions lol. Great vid as always from House Wayalife.
Happy to hear you enjoyed our video and I would definitely recommend these tires. Just make sure to get them in a load range C as E's will ride rougher.
@@wayalife thanks for the recommendation, good to know
Great video and good choice of final music. Whats is the name ?
Thank you, so happy to hear you enjoyed our video and the music we used. Not sure if it has a name, more like a description. That's how most royalty free music we buy is sold.
Now that’s a great looking upgrade. It’s a totally different Jeep. It amazes me the great jeep parts you can find on marketplace. My Jeep is coming off of marketplace. :)
Couldn't agree more and thanks!
beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Have those same Gladiator Rubi rims on my JLU Sport but with the Falken ATs. Love that stock but not really stock look! Looks factory but something different versus typical Wrangler Rubi takeoff rims/tires. I just went with JLU Rubi takeoff suspension + 1/2" spacers and no issue with rubbing. Pippi's looking great!
Awesome and glad to hear you've done something similar.
Nice! Next springs and shocks from JLUR steel bumper/tow package?? That’s what I have on my JL, easy 2inch lift!
Ya never know 🤪
Hey Eddie, You feel'n ok? Look like you got a bug. A mod bug. Hahaha... Next will be Jets hand me down 2" lift.
LOL - love it 🤣
Yes sir, the wait is over...baby got new sneaks...wait, could there be some more rubicon parts in that bin 😀 like maybe some suspension parts 🤔 Pippy looking tight...
We'll see 😁
Great DIY videos! And thanks for mentioning when you find something made in the USA. As an old jar-head I still like to buy American and support US manufacturing when I can.
Thank you for your service and we always love American made products!
Hey could you guys possibly make another video on the Decked Bed System in your JT? Would love to see how you guys organized it and your long term thoughts! Thank you and keep up the great videos!!
Sure, that might be possible.
Ur vids are soooo good.
Thank you. We're truly humbled that you would say as much and happy to know you enjoy our videos.
Nice choice of tires, both the wife’s JKU and my Tacoma wear ridge grapplers. Same size as a matter of fact. 30k miles on truck and around 25k on Jeep. Still have plenty of tread.
That is awesome!
Call me crazy, but I miss your steelies! Aren't these the tires that there is a 'traditional' side and a 'modern' side? Looks like you mounted the modern side out. Either way, great series! One of my favorites I follow on RUclips. Great editing and to the point! And I love your dog cameos... she is just so damn cute!
LOL - no crazy at all. I liked them too but they were just too narrow for the wider tires we are running now. Happy to hear you like our videos and Ripley too 😎
The video ive been waiting for!! Thanks for the vid. Pippi looking awsome!!! Hii from Puerto Rico🔥🔥😅
Awesome, thank you.
I really like the simple look of the Gladiator Rubicon rims. I took off the factory rims from my Gladiator Rubicon and put them on my Wrangler Unlimited Sahara 4xe and it changed the look completely. I had to put the stock 20" rims/tires back on after a piece of metal tore a chunk into the sidewall of the tire. :( I will have to get it replaced before I go wheeling next week. Too bad Jeep will never make a 4xe 2 door. Love the looks of the 2 door. That is a classic Jeep look that will never fade.
It really is a shame about the 2-door. Stellantis has already stopped selling them abroad.
My favorite part about this Jeep is watching you justify everything you change after saying you wouldn't. Now THAT'S the Jeep life. So relatable.
LOL - awesome 👍
Super Super video
Thank you :)
would you say the load C 38 is worth the $120/tire premium over the 37 load D? im back and forth on it because I like that C but woof on the price.
It depends on what you're needing in your tire. D will have a tougher sidewall but C will have a softer ride for daily driving.
Nice job & great presentation. You do well with the camera & explanation. The tire options are ubiquitous with brands, styles & targeted use. And each tire store, arguably, has a preference for certain tires over another . And to the buyer, costs, discounts & desires can push one this or that direction. For 4dr.'s I see many going with some type of Mud Tire, but with 2dr., I see tire shops recommending something "lighter". I had a two door Rubicon with MT's on for a while and then a friend (tire shop owner) recommended a Goodyear Duratrac, feeling that would handle the road, backcountry and occasional four wheeling better than a MT (for that vehicle). The Nitto Range Grappler is a fine tire, particularly for a 2dr.; hopefully it meets the needs & desires of the 2 drivers.
Glad you enjoyed our video.
We're those the Rubicon Take-Off wheels? They have Rubicon take-off wheels and tires for I think 2K or so. Pretty good deal? Wondering if those will also fit on a JK - Non Rubicion?
Yes, they are Rubicon take offs and yes, they will work on a JK but no, $2k is not a good deal. You shouldn't have to pay more than $1k or there about for brand new ones.
For wheels and tires?@@wayalife
Michelin LTX Defenders are great tires. Smooth comfortable ride, quiet and good gas mileage, also underrated off-road
I have to admit, they did a surprisingly good job.
So much to love about this video. My dad had a few j10s, and I grew up in that truck. I love that you put nittos on pippi. I have a set of 35s on my red sport s two-door. I'm about to trade it in for a 2022 2-door Rubicon, and I may just keep it stock with those same tires, for a while until gas gets a little cheaper. Looking forward to watching more of pippi's videos.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video. At the end, was that a teaser for Pippi getting an EVO double throw-down coil-overpackage? 😆
🤣
Looking good can't wait to see what's next!
Thank you and glad to hear it 😎
Whats your take on 35” tires with the stock 3.73 gears? I have a 16 JKU. I dont plan on hard core rock crawling just some fun trails like possibly gold mountain and overlanding. I also live in cali near JT
You can do it but you will feel power loss. Only you can decide for yourself if it's tolerable.
This video was great! I really like your video editing and I am so glad to see a video with clear dialog that stays on topic. I just got through watching "professionally" made videos covering similar installs and to get through those videos you have to watch or skip through all of the added filler and pointless banter.
Truly humbled that you would say as much and happy to know that our videos are helpful to you.
I did the black gap road trail in big bend, which is a badge of honor trail, with the stock Michelins. They did fine. That said as soon as they wore out I got better tires.
Nice
Great video actually got me looking at those tires in a 35x12.50r17
Awesome! I think you'll like them a lot.
So after a year or so, has the rubbing been an issue? Did you get spacer? How did you resolve it if you did? Hope to hear from you soon. I have Wrangler Sport S and still on the fence on 265 or 285, the only thing keeping me from 285 is that rubbing on the sway bars.
This video might help answer your question ruclips.net/video/M7AuI7OKHas/видео.html
Tires are worth spending the money on. Went cheap with the kumho road ventures on mine and they are great offroad. Plus the 75k mileage warantee is a plus if you ask me.
Nice
Do you feel like it needs a lift kit or at least Rubicon take off suspension, or are you completely happy with the stock sport suspension setup and the 33 inch tires? I am considering buying a bone stock JL Sport and adding Rubicon take off tires and wheels. I would prefer not to have to lift it. Thanks
Honestly, there's no need for a lift and the 33's have been working out great as is.
Looks so much better!
Would it still be considered “stock” with a Mopar 2” lift?
Thank you and while I would still consider it to be stock, especially being that the Extreme Recon can be bought with it from the factory, I don't think that's something we're wanting to do or at least, not at this time.
I’ve never seen someone actually torque their wheel nuts lol
Now that is just nuts! 😁
This jeep is looking sooooo dang good
Thank you 😎
Let's Go Brandon !!
Great video and excellent content. But, my favorite part was watching the J truck 😎
LOL - Glad you enjoyed it 👍
I absolutely love your videos! I have been watching regularly as I patiently impatiently await my first Jeeps arrival. I was born in Reno but moved a lot due to military family, but I moved back to Reno for several years again in my early 20s. I’m no longer in Reno but when I was I would often take my truck up to Caughlin Ranch to ride in the mountains, appreciating the trails and letting my dog run freely beside me. I miss it dearly. I was wondering if you would consider doing a video riding up there some time. Either way, keep up the great work Eddie! Love the content brother.
Sorry to hear you had to leave the area but glad to hear you enjoy our videos. I'll see what I can do about your request.
New tires doesn’t mean aftermarket in my eyes, it’s still stock! Who actually stays with the exact same tire that comes stock with their vehicle when they need a new pair?
Couldn't agree with you more, thanks!
MADE IN THE U.S.A……matters indeed! 👍🏻
You know it! 👍
I own a JL unlimited sport and find your videos to be really informative and fun. Thanks, dude
Truly flattered to hear you say as much and happy to know our videos are informative and fun for you to watch :)
Looks 100 times better!
Thank you, we agree 😎
What brand of mud terrain tire would you recommend? And are mud terrain tires better at providing off road traction overall than all terrains?
Me personally, I have always found Nitto Trail Grapplers to perform great overall. Mud Grapplers will hook up better off road but aren't as friendly as a daily driver. Toyo MT's are a great option too but don't hook up as well on the rocks. They are quieter on pavement though. Those would be my choices and why.
I love oem wheels. That was definitely right decision for this rig.
Amazing what a little bit larger tire and aggressive tread can do. Real confidence booster too.
Next may be coil spacers and little bit taller shocks and adjustable from track bar and raised rear track bar bracket center it all? Then beefier tie rod and drag link?
It really never ends and becomes chain reaction, but i love it.
LOL - you are right, it's a slippery slope but one that we hope to keep within the realm of stock.
The car look gorgeous.
Every time I see a new video of this series I think 'sure it doesn't need it', but after the video my thought is 'how could it be without it before?'
Thank you!
LOL - glad to hear you're liking what you see.
Did you have to adjust anything for the spare as far as adjusting the brake light up, or adjusting the rubber spacer pieces or the camera housing etc?
It's a tight fit but it'll just work as is with this tire size.
Did you have to regear on for these tires?...Or left the JL stock?....
The loss of power was minimal and so I have not regeared.
First time i took my jeep out i got stuck in the middle of no wear with a hole in the side wall and from that moment on i buy tires first
Like I say in the video, I'm really surprised that we didn't destroy one of our factory tires sooner. Glad it held out but happier that we have tires we can trust now.
Wow!!! I'm looking forward to your next offroad excursion.
Hope to bring that to you soon :)
