DIY Tailgate Table

- This time we build a much-needed camping upgrade. A tale gate table. This thing is cheap, easy to make, and works great! We use it all the time, the secret is this Gorilla tape amzn.to/2ZIFKYz (affiliate link). By using the mounting tape it makes projects easily tackled because no holes are being drilled in the body.
Also, one can customize the wood board to suit their needs. We have put this to good use and I cant image camping without it now. Hands down one of my favorite modifications.

I did the same thing last week but I only used one 20 pound magnet. It held up fine during runs of Sherman Pass and Monache Meadows over the weekend. Everyone on the trip was pretty jealous for sure!
Awesome! Yea, I have a few plans that might require the higher pound magnets. We shall see! Glad your trip turned out well!
Hey Mark, Nice job!
Hey, thanks!
Hello, Great idea and i'll have to try this myself. Thanks
Please do, let me know how it turns out! Thank you for watching.
Cool! I'm doing something similar, but using the Tuffy drawer. I cut a piece of 3/4" material to 23" and change by 31" and change. When the drawer is open it slips in snugly behind the face of the drawer and into the slot between the top of the drawer and the box at the rear. I have it laminated with countertop covering for a cleanable surface. When I'm not using it, it stows beneath the box turned sideways.
Very nice! I’m thinking about doing something similar. That way we have two tables and will not need to carry a camp table with us.
Bit late but is there any reason you didn't do a fold up? seems all the tailgate tables are too low.
The main reason is due to space. We typically only use this one table when we are out. Getting a fold up table into a. Jeep TJ would be a challenge lol!
The height is low but when we put our stove on the table it is about perfect. Another factor for me is my wife is very small so the height of the table ends up working out well for us.
I might gona do something similar to my jku next summer.. i have everything except the hinge and magnets. However if i do i may change the order in the steps.. i will probably paint and varnish after the cut first before hanging the board on the tailgate. So i don't contaminate the body paint. But im still debating over storage on tailgate and this,,, i need storage more than a table. Everytime we camp.. there is a camping table.. and we can't always park near the table,, This might be usefull for ppl overlanding or those who just do a quick stop without unloading their gear. More storage on the tailgate seem more useful but at the same time, if i put a lots lf big things in the trunk, anything on the tailgate must be counted when i close the tailgate... decision to make,,
Looking back I should have varnished the wood first.
The storage is a concern. For us this allows us not to bring a camping table at all. We typically camp right near the Jeep. Rarely are we camp far enough away from it that everything needs to be unpacked.
However, I do have an idea to add some storage to the table. Stay tuned!
how long are the hinges and the table?
Nice and inventive!!!! I keep seeing these advertised for JK’s but jot for TJ’s. I’ll probably copy what you did 👍
Any trouble closing the door ?
Thank you. Yea I agree it is hard to find them for TJs and they are very expensive if you can. No issues closing the door. There is plenty of room. Even with my tuffy drawer and my ARB fridge inside.
Thanks, I'm not willing to chuck $200 - $300 CAD for a Mopar table. How's the tape holding up?
I agree. It’s holding up great so far!
