- Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow review of VIEWTIFUL JOE for Nintendo GameCube from Capcom. VIEWTIFUL JOE was released on the GameCube in 2003 and on the PlayStation 2 (PS2) in 2004. This video game review features VIEWTIFUL JOE video gameplay footage and commentary. This video game was reviewed by CGR reviewer Derek.

I remember being so hyped when I read about this game in a magazine...some kid next to me said it looked crappy. Oh how wrong he was...this game is amazing ^-^
So you have to deal with those kind of people too? Because when I was in middle school, I remember a retarded classmate told me that he played the game and claims that it sucks, but lately, the more footage I see, the more I want to play it!
I wish this game would be remastered for Nintendo switch.

Definetely agree with you and disagree with the reasponses that say a remake would be pointless. Not only doesn't everybody still have a PS2, GameCube or Wii (though I do) but also they weren't HD. So an HD remaster or even 4k would be great!

Viewtiful Joe was developed by Capcom's Devil May Cry team who eventually formed Clover studio in 2004. Clover handled the PS2 port of Viewtiful Joe as well as both versions of Viewtiful joe 2. When Clover got shut down, several Clover/Capcom staff form Seeds Inc. which merged with ODD Inc. to form Platinum games the eventual developers of Bayonetta, MadWorld, and the upcoming Wonderful 101.
I remember being so excited when I unlocked Alastor the Devil in this game.... Then finding out that his VFX constantly runs down even when just standing still.
Best Retro Game on the Gamecube loved every second of it

A game designed by the art genius behind some of gaming's most beautiful works of art, with a story modeled after the fascinating book of Enoch? Enoch wears only designer jeans and white porcelain armor pieces from God? He can only get access to new weapons by "cleansing" ones off of enemies? Oh yes! I cannot wait until August 16th, pre-ordered for day 1 delivery!
That game was Vieutiful.
I loved it back in the day, and I still love Vieutiful Joe now.
Thankfully I still have the Gamecube as well as my Wii so I could play it again
when Capcom used to publish wonderful games
I have this for ps2 and it was a GReAT fighting side scroller! It was a good length and it had some difficult bosses, plus you could unlock new characters to play as like dante from devil may cry. Which gives you a sword and a gun, but you pretty much control him the same. The cut scenes have different dialouge though so it is intresting to play through as someone else!

Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Resident Evil 4, Zelda - The Windwaker, Zelda - Twilight Princess, Serious Sam Next Encounter and Pokemon Colosseum are some of my faves.

I wanted this game bad when I was a kid. I had an xbox so I couldn't play it. This was one reason I wanted a gamecube back in the day.

I'm sorry, I acknowledge the commentary but it's been so long since I've played VJ1 and 2 that I had nostalgia attack just watching this amazing gameplay. Weren't they going to make a VJ3 according to the ending of VJ2?

I own 1+2 for my GameCube paid a small fortune for them but stopped playing as so hard for me 🙈
Reviewers need to actually fully play the game not just a few levels, that thunder boy level is a fuckin pain in the ass have to re do it today cause it pissed me off so much last week smh.

@DaFunk14 It would rightfully belong on a Nintendo console, seeing as that's where the series had its first game (the PS2 VJ1 was a port but with Dante). The Nintendo systems have also seen one more VJ game than Sony (Double Trouble for the DS; PSP only had Red Hot Rumble, which was on the Gamecube).
However, if Dante is not allowed on a Nintendo release (DMC's multiplatform now, so that wouldn't make much sense) then by all means release it on a Sony system instead.

I know this video is 8 years old, but man it was hard to watch and not hate the gameplay footage, wich I guess was the one reviewing, if so man he sucked at playing it. LOL.
They should make a new viewtiful joe game for 3ds the visuals would look awesome.

Epic game in every sense. My only complaint with this game is it's lack of use of the time speed up feature. The majority of the game relied heavily on slow down, and only in certain scenarios did any other time manipulation come into play.
zoom in and speed up is the most powerful damage dealer in the game, but it's harder to pull off than slow down, you can break bosses apart with it if you get the timing down ^^
When I was little this was my favorite game on the gamecube. God I wish my dog didn't pee on it.

Good review with nice insight but you don't have to over-enunciate every syllable. Talk faster. Not Zero Punctuations faster but it could have 3 minutes.
This game was absurdly awesome in every way. I just wish I would of purchased the GameCube Version. I played the PS2 port at my cousin's instead :/
I liked this game, but I never beat it... it got pretty hard towards the end, and I never really got into the whole GameCube thing... I just played this on my sister's when I came home.

@Akuzo911 Clover was shut down by Capcom (a really stupid decision in my opinion) and the remnants formed Platinum games creators of Bayonetta, Mad World and Vanquish

I really appreciate how well thought out your monologue is. Very thorough and smart. But please... show better gameplay. Your words do the franchise justice, your gameplay makes it look less than adequate. No offense intended.
Actually, using Mach Speed and sliding repeatedly on the ground is used by pro players a LOT to beat the game in times like half an hour. I've never beat my record of 35 minutes (skipping cutscenes), but I'm doing an LP of it now on the channel "GamsterLifeComms", so I brushed up a bit before I started. I'm not speedrunning it, though.
Please tell me Viewtiful Joe 3 hasn't met the same fate as MML3

freaking excellent games
i HATED the clone boss fights and then Fire leo it made me give up the game for like 7 months. finally i picked it back up and played expecting that to be the last level but TA DA i was suddenly playing star wars episode 7: loss of the light saber
But Man that game kicked ass
only downside was first time i played
i kept feeling like my life was slowing down and speeding up it was weird but eventually as i played more it left so im not complainin

If you're willing to shell out the money for all the extra parts you need so you can play with other people, The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures is worth every single penny. story-wise, the game is a sequel to the GBA Four Swords (and the 3DS remake of the GBA game).

Real crying shame we will never get a viewtiful joe 3 because of the popularity of 2D franchises haven't been selling well in the modern gameing market, even rocket knight 2010 sold badly on xbox live :(
If capcom gets more fans asking for a VJ3 then they will do it but there gonna need about say between 50,000 or 100,000 requests for it to happen.... Its a guess but its true if people don't show much interest in the series then it will die.
This could work wonderful on a 3DS!
