Sony's Playstation 1 is one of the most influential and highest selling video game consoles of all time. But it's also got one of the deepest libraries out there. THAT MEANS we got all kinds of Forgotten and Weird Vidya games to tackle, and you know I'm up for the task. I'm also extremely tired.

HOWDY HAPPY 2023! And by that I mean mid February because I took a snoozer. My birthday's tomorrow also, and I plan to have the big sleep again cause you'll be getting TWO videos this week. You interested in Gotham Knights? Just a few more days, pwomise.
ANYWAYS, what are some other old PS1 games I should take a look at? Or just, you know, hidden gems that time is forgetting about? I gots to know.

I had a very large PS1 games growing up but I only remember about half of them because I was addicted to action games and RPGs. We never had any racing or sports games but we had a bit of everything else. Fighting, strategy (real time and turn based), rpgs/jrpgs and a boat load of shooters and action types. My dad was a gamer and loved to share his favorite hobby with his kids. I now have a son to share my hobby with. 😁

I would add to that list Silent Bomber, a great action game, with awesome controls that had a versus mode where you could play as the bosses you defeated during the campaign. And perhaps Ark of Time, a nice point and click adventure that made you go all around the world looking for a missing professor. It had some weirdly mysoginous dialogue lines near the end that I find hilarious.

Omfg i actually genuinely love Silent Bomber that game was my whole childhood, my dad had bought it without much conviction back then but then realized it was super fun and different and when he let me play with the playstation i'd always pick that game. It's so rare to ever see anyone mention that game and it's a shame it's entirely forgotten considering how cool it is. I always feel like if it were remade today it'd be a big hit with how simple yet incredibly fun the gameplay is.

Ehrgeiz is one of those forgotten games by square that was kinda weird. On one hand there was a 3d fighting game using final fantasy characters, full 360 degree movement, and an interactive environment; on the other a dungeon crawler/hack and slash rpg that felt extremely bland but charming in its own way. The Tecmo Deception series is criminally forgotten. I first was introduced to the series with Kagero: Deception 2 on the PS1. In these games you're put into a castle of some sort, and basically have to defend yourself from mutiple enemies by setting 3 types of traps, being floor, wall, and ceiling. These can be strung together into combos using just the traps themselves, or the environment as well. So say you got a floor trap that springs your opponent three spaces forward, you can then have a boulder trap fall from the ceiling to crush them where they land, then maybe have a spike wall hit them as they stand up. It definitely gets deeper than that, when you start using pillars, fireplaces, ect, from the environment, to deal out more damage, and get higer combo rankings at the end of the level, which gives you currency to unlock a plethora of more traps. It's an often brutal strategy game series that hasn't seen a release since the PS3, surprisingly.
While I'm here I'll add Future Cop LAPD. Pretty fun game where you're in a walking battletank that can transform into a car. You just roam around the levels, completing objectives and just blowing stuff up. Good stuff.

I'm not sure how old you are, but for folks my age who were into gaming, a lot of these titles are remembered (even if not played). What you have to remember is we all had chipped PS1s and used to get/buy copied games by the shovel full. Because you could get pretty much any game for cheap or free, we played so many things that would otherwise be unheard of. Fun fact: someone at my school used to sell copied games. Their dad owned a video game shop and made copies of the games, so clearly selling cheap stuff at volume was more profitable than going legit.

One of my favorite PSX games that seems pretty forgotten - in my experience at least - is Legend of Legaia. The story isn't anything too ground breaking, but it had some of my favorite battle mechanics. It had a Pokemon-esque system where you can capture monsters you fight and turn them into FF style summons, and the basic attack was sort of inspired by fighting games. Rather than just pressing a button, you had a set amount of inputs you could put directional inputs into. Each input was its own hit, but with specific combos, you'd finish with a special move making a lot of the special attacks have a feel kinda like doing a combo in Budokai and ending with a Kamehameha. Fun stuff.

Nice, video there were a few games that I didn't know of...but Alundra kinda caught me by surprise.
Because in my book that was kinda of a staple game...heck when I first played through it I had rented it from my local VHS rental store in Greece.
So I was always under the impression that since I played this in my little country in 1998 ,this title must have been huge.

God I love Alundra, I actually did a replay of it recently and it still holds up! I wish Alundra 2 was more like it

We definitely need more of an expansion of all the cool, weird, and mostly forgotten jrpgs on the ps1

A few potentially obscure games I use to love playing were; Rapid Reload, a well done side scrolling shooter.
Machine Hunter, a top down twin stick style shooter.
Hogs of War, a 3D worms clone.
Fighting Force, a 3D Streets of Rage either clone or spin-off.
Future Cop LAPD, a 3D transforming mech shooter.
Kula World, a puzzle game where you're a beachball.
So many more, some of them were great, and the others, I'm just glad I had the time to waste on bad games as a kid.

I actually did grow up playing tiny tank, and for a 6 year old who didn't know any better shit was tight. I still have the disc and all my PS1 games. Ima go ahead and get myself a playstation to see which one works and play through them, thank you for unlocking these memories!

Man, I rented most of these as a kid! Tiny Tank was awesome, wish I'd bought it. Jersey Devil was tough. 989 Studios made a game called Wild 9 that was pretty sick. Tomba was cool and weird. Threads of Fate was great, but I think you had that in another video. Lunar 2 might have been my first experience with anime boobies

Thank you for bringing up MegaMan Legends and the Misadventures of Tron Bonne!! Another obscure PS1 game that is my absolute favorite that has some similarities to MegaMan Legends is Tail Concerto. It's a pretty short game if you know what you're doing, but it's so enjoyable! Also has some great voice acting and animated scenes for its time.

Some of my favorite hidden gem games were Jade Cacoon, Eternal Eyes, Devil Dice, Rollaway, Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring, and Ninja: Shadow of Darkness. PS1 is still one of the greatest consoles ever. There were so many good and obscure games for it.
