I sure miss the PS2 days. Feels like you could get a new shiny banger every few weeks. Games have been great lately, but this era alongside the PS1 and Dreamcast was TO ME, the Golden Age. What are some other PS2 games I should check out in the future? I need more 10,000 Bullets, that one is WILD.

Fun Fact: PlayStation All-Stars wasn't that last game that would feature Jak and Daxter. There's another game that came out on the PS3 that probably no one has heard of, or even remembers. PlayStation Move Heroes, a game that takes the big 3 (Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper) and has them do a set of challenges across each others worlds. This would be the last time Jak and Daxter would be playable.
The last appearance Jak and Daxter made was when they were cameos in Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart. The RYNO in Rift Apart drops things from other dimensions, a number of them come from other PlayStation games. The only 3 characters that appear from those other dimensions are Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, and Bentley. I also believe Dark Jak can show up as well but i don't remember

Living in the UK, I had Gregory's Horror Show and it was genuinely amazing. It had some really clever stealth mechanics as you tried to peep through nkeyholes to diacover what was going on. It also had an interesting calendar system going on. If you got caught, youd be chased through the mansion by the dinosaur nurse wielding a giant syringe. She was not at all subtly based on Nurse Rathed from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Great game, criminally underrated. It, and viewtiful joe, would absolutely do a lot better if they were remastered and re-released for a modeen audience.

Road Trip Adventure is one of favorites on the system honestly.
I'd say it's one of those games that'll win your heart over if you give it the chance to. It's definitely jank and clearly low budget, but it makes up for it in charm and you can feel the heart the devs put into it.
It's fairly chill to just drive around, exploring to find the new towns, meet new characters, doing quests/minigames, etc.

I played Rogue Galaxy back in the day, & I still love the game. I was just so blown away by how beautiful the game was, & is still to this day. Plus the virtually seamless travel across the planets, with no loading screens. It blew my mind back then. That & learning about how the international version was expanded to the point that it required a dual-layered DVD, wow just, wow, in a good way. The only other dual-layered DVD PS2 game I ever had was Xenosaga 1. When I learned that Rogue Galaxy was being brought to the PS4/PS5, I was super excited. I hope they bring back many other forgotten classics. I think Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirit (my personal favorite strategy game on the PS2) & the Shadow Hearts trilogy should be on this list as well. While the Shadow Hearts trilogy unfortunately petered out by the 3rd game, the whole trilogy was amazing.

Yet the story falls apart, the combat is trash, the music is boring, and your "special ability" does nothing but change your appearance... One of the worst level 5 games on ps2

    • @dartz005
      @dartz005 5 месяцев назад

@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 Rogue Galaxy isn't perfect, but what it brought to the table was certainly ahead of its time. Like with the seamless travel with minimal loading screens. While the story & music weren't anything too special, they were decent. And the combat, I wouldn't call it boring. Easy to forget that some of your guns had a bit of different effects. And costume changing doing "nothing". Most of the game's cutscenes were in real time, meaning that your current costume would show up in most scenes of the game. I did beat Rogue Galaxy back on the PS2, so I might be a bit biased, but it's 1 of those games that you don't forget in a good way.

Tbh, I grew up with Road Trip (Adventures) and it was honestly one of the best games I randomly picked up. Don't blame you for not getting far but I loved the fact that you could build your own town/city by talking to certain NPCs, the jets and gliders and the skis you can put on your car. It was more of the charming jank for me and it's one of the few PS2 games I still have to this day.

My animal companion passed away yesterday, and I've been feeling emotionally distraught and lonely ever since. I had just heated out the last meal my companion and I were going to share together; as I intended to eat it while she sat on my lap.

I don't care what anyone says. The OST for The Adventures of Cookie and Cream goes hard AF. I love showing it off to people because they're always caught off guard by how bizarre it is. The composer, Kota Hoshino also did Evergrace's and Forgotten Kingdom's OSTs which are notorious for how wacky they are. While I'm at it, I totally recommend his band FreQuency because the Armored Core OSTs are fantastic and way less of an auditory assault like a lot of Hoshino's early work.

I always love the topics you bring up, keep it up. Every video has my interest. Honestly, Whiplash was also a very obscure PS2 game. I remember it because they made 3 flash games behind it (named after the main characters of the game, Spanx and Redmond 1 to 3 respectively) to promote the "upcoming" game (which was Whiplash). I actually really like it, but I know it's definitely not for everyone. It looked ugly and sometimes even played a bit ugly but it was a lot of fun, especially when the main gimmick of the game is wrecking stuff. Basically as the weasel (Spanx) and the rabbit (Redmond, who is basically your weapon due to him being indestructable because of the chemicals that were put in the makeup that was being tested on him) are trapped in a lab where animal testing is basically it's entire factor of it's existence. What you gotta do is rescue those animals, bash the scientists and guards down to the ground and wreck the entire lab to bits so that it's net worth goes down the drain.

Ah maaaan, thanks you for mentioning Gregory Horror Show. I heard about it in a YT video like 5 years ago and never been able to remember the title. I really like quirky weird games that bring some childish idiotic nostalgia. Thanks to you I know the title now so I can add it to my collection. You. Are. A. Legend!!!

Shadow of Rome is incredible! I still resent Dead Rising to this day because I love this game so much :(
Urban Chaos was in Hitman: Blood Money as a demo and I replayed that first level so much LMAO I loved every second of it and then I bought the game.
And of course, Rogue Galaxy. What an insane gem of a game that more people definitely need to check it out.

I actually really enjoyed Road Trip Adventure as a kid. It was fun exploring what seemed like a fairly large world at the time. Plus I enjoyed making the car better especially when you found the boost power up. The little quest you would stumble upon were adorable, and the one were you actually had to make a town based on the cars you meet along the way was enjoyable.

The PS2 was a really special console, a lot of the best creativity in gaming started there and continues to evolve today. Hell, you could even say that Soulslike as a genre is really an evolution of PS2 action game design that was refined to a particular edge.
I loved this video, I'd love more of these kinds of things if you are interested in it. This hit the nostalgia spot real well

I remember going through SO MUCH to play Rogue Galaxy. The original release didn't work on older PS2s, like my first generation slim, and when it was played too much wouldn't load past the synopsis screen. So used copies were nigh unplayable. Eventually, i got a brand new sealed copy from a non-Gamestop store and got to play it then

I had a PS2 in college, it was PEAK JRPG times for sure. I remember going to the store and buying Rogue Galaxy, $30, and firing it up in our dorm and absolutely falling in love with it. It's a damn shame the series didn't go anywhere. Trivia - the main character is voiced by Will Friedel, who played Eric Matthews on Boy Meets World.

I love videos like these that show really good ACTUAL hidden gems. The Red Star looks great and I'm totally playing that.
Shadow of Rome is amazing, I saw the cover once and didn't think much about it, but I noticed the Capcom logo. I played it and performed a suplex to a giant enemy. So yeah, it's pretty good.

I remember when Super Dragonball Z came out, the reviews were mediocre in France as it was closer to old / classic fighting games and more complex than the Budokai and Budokai Tenkaichi games. For many people it felt like going backward to only have 18 characters while even the first Budokai game had 23 characters. It didn't helped that the game was released only in English in Europe.
Stretch Panic (or Freak Out in Europe) is a bit janky and on the short side but it's a fun and weird experience.
Gregory Horror Show is really a fun game, it might not be scary but can be quite tense at times!
Never played Samurai Legend Musashi but it's one of those games I would see in the bargain bins of every video game store I ever visited. The cover kinda reminded me of the manga Shaman King but never tempted me enough to buy it.
Same thing for Urban Chaos Riot Response, I would often see it in bargain bins or pre-owned shelves.

If you(Austin or you the person reading this) ever decide to give Road Trip Adventure another shot, make sure you go inside the buildings too as some of the first missions you can do in the game give you opportunities to make money. But yeah, you do grind, my most recent playthrough though i did manage to avoid it through the economy of the rest of the game. Some upgrades can be free thru quests well, saving you from spending coins on better parts at certain times

One game I thought you might have talked about when you brought up Arika was Everblue, the precursor to the Endless Ocean series (though I expect you made most of this video before the announcement of the newest game) what's weird is we never got the first Everblue in the states but we did get the sequel and they still called it Everblue 2 over here.
Speaking of only released in Japan and Europe, look into Michigan: Report from Hell. It was made by Grasshopper and it's a first person camera game where you actually play a camera man. It did some neat stuff while also being delightfully janky. I think you'd dig it!

I loved Rogue Galaxy. I remember getting clowned on in a forum back in the day for defending it. A few people were upset that it wasn't really a pirate game. They wanted ship battles and treasure hunts and not a JRPG with pirate aesthetics. Which is fine, but I pointed out that is what I wanted and i, ya know, bothered to do my research before plopping down money on it. I was told I was being "defensive"
