- The new Toyota Innova HyCross comes only with a petrol engine while the old Innova Crysta continues only with a diesel. Toyota Innova has come a long way since it was launched in 2005 as a replacement for the Qualis. In its current avatar it has a whole bunch of competitors like the Maruti Suzuki XL6, Ertiga and Kia Carens at the lower end, Kia Carnival at the higher end, even 7-seater SUVs like Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector and Tata Safari. However fact is an Innova only competes with itself and that is why we are comparing new Innova vs the old Innova. I would prefer Innova Crysta if I have 8 people and if I have 5 people then the hycross. Mahindra still hasn't reached that level of reliability. Mahindra has to grow a lot and their new products have to be with less problems then it can be a competition

The Innova Crysta also has Rake and Reach Steering standard from the base variant, we have the 2.8 GX Automatic variant
What about hycross performance when fully loaded and with luggage due to its front wheel drive set up especially during uphill conditions???

Good review, what you missed was the boot space in the Hycross with the flat folding 3rd row. The Crysta's folding seats are so old school and eat up so much space.

If you love cars with bof chassis with rwd along with diesel powertrain, you have crysta.
If you want cars with monocoque construction with good mileage efficiency, you have Hycross.
Both sets of customers covered. Clever plan Toyota......

Like I said, both these Innovas are very, very different
I would have loved this video if the comparison was between crysta and hycross hybrid. Understand that both work on different engine and technologies but as a buyer if I want to put my money on then I would rather compare the two as well.

Why did they reduce the last row (3rd row) window area so much? The much older 2.5 ltr engine Innova had such a nice big window area for the 3rd row.

Regards your doubts how the Hycross will fare long term after hard usage - My office in Dhaka has 2 Toyota Noah Hybrid, perhaps flimsier than Hycross. The vehicles were 4 years old imported from Japan. We have been using them non-stop in more unruly traffic and road conditions than anything you see in India. The 2 Noahs are still going strong... Not a single complaint!

I live in Singapore and have driven a few toyotas, they are often the easiest cars to drive and even with over 4 lakh km on them they feel like new. Although not exciting, but that's not what they are going for

I have driven my Hycorss 6k so far and car hasseries of issues . 1. Super hard suspension 2. driver left knee hits the center consol. Which results left knee pain.Poor thigh support. 3. Build Quality - the bonnet vibrates like paper every time when hits a pothole or speed breaker.4. I could hear even a whispering sound and Tyre noise from outside clearly. This seems an issue many other owners as well.

I am looking for a family car( family consist of 4 people) should i go for honda city or innova hycross if my priority is ride comfort. i live in a city with good roads so which one should i prefer?
For the price, I would always go with Honda City. It only makes sense to get hycross in top spec variant which would be almost twice as expensive on road. Open to discussion 😀

Well! Very sad to see that Toyota is not bringing different models to Indian market unlike USA (Highlander, Sienna, Mirai (hydrogen fuel), Prius 2023, Corolla Hatchback, Crown) all their Hybrids are sterling here.
The market isn't there for all of these....

It is'nt about market but it is about profit margin what they get by selling these low grade (Innova, Etios, Yaris etc) cars hence they partner with Maruti Ltd for hatchback variants. There we pay 45L-50L for Fortuner ,whereas here we have Highlander Hybrid which starts from 42K - 55K USD(33L-44L as Ex-showroom price) as a MSRP; which is more Bigger, superior and comfortable 3 row SUV than Fortuner and eventually we pay as same as Fortuner. Camry Hybrid there would cost over 55L (with unwanted luxury pack) but here it would start with 29K-36K USD (LE, SE, XSE) where it constitutes 24L - 29L Ex-showroom price.
