    I've walked away from satisfactory at the moment. Had some bugs with my turbofuel power plant and it killed my motivation. Decided I'd wait for 1.0.
    Now that I'm watching your work again, I've got the itch. I don't think I can wait lol. Going to dedicate this weekend to debugging my Power plant and building again.
    As always, love your work and thank you for the inspiration to play again.

    51:35 That's assuming the truck station splits the output like a splitter. In my experience, a large storage container puts any on the bottom and overflow on top. Might be the same for the truck station.
    That may not matter though since the truck drops a full inventory at once. So they'll both output 480 93.75% of the time even if one is "overflow".

  • @jensfuhrmann7989
    @jensfuhrmann7989 Месяц назад +14

    Of course, the buffers work. The big container have two output ports and the station has two input ports. And vice versa. Connect two outputs to the station and you fill it up with double speed.

    • @WhatDarrenPlays
      @WhatDarrenPlays  Месяц назад +4

      Let's say you have two full belts of 780 going into a freight platform. If they are both 780 per minute, and going into one platform, a buffer will do nothing, and you won't reach 780/780 out on the other side. Buffer only works if it's one in and two out. Not two in and two out. That's what I was (poorly) trying to explain!

    • @dannymerov
      @dannymerov Месяц назад +2

      yeah, the only way getting 780 out of trains is considering the double input/output as a single belt in combination with an industrial container. i believe Coffeestain actually intended that mechanic to be figured out since only trains have the pauze in loading/unloading out of all the vehicles. the 2 ports are jjust a bait to use them for 2 full lines :D

    • @jimmykimmel4753
      @jimmykimmel4753 Месяц назад +4

      @@WhatDarrenPlays exactly as the comment you replied to is saying is correct. You go 2x780 into a large storage and 1x780 comming out of it. This allows a constant 780 output from your freight station

  • @donmindme
    @donmindme Месяц назад +4

    Awesome video as always, Darren!
    I might have a suggestion for your issue with the constant flow of 780 belts into train stations: What about using industrial storage containers as buffers? Connect one 780 belt to an input of the container and two 780 belts to both outputs of the container, reaching into both inputs of the same train platform. This way, the container acts as a buffer while the train is loading. After the train leaves, the two output belts will then drain the container since they're faster than the one input belt. If I'm not mistaken, you'll be able to catch up with the 780 belt feeding that container, ensuring a constant flow of 780 per minute.

    • @mattclark6037
      @mattclark6037 Месяц назад +4

      And with a mirror image on the other end to offload, it should theoretically keep a steady 780 flow.

    • @WhatDarrenPlays
      @WhatDarrenPlays  Месяц назад +7

      True, I shouldve explained better:
      780 is achievable, but 1560 is not. The point is that if you try fill a container normally with 1560 per minute (2input belts) you can, but you wont be able to transfer that to a train. I was (badly) trying to explain that whatever your max belt speed is, if you were loading both input belts into a station, you wont be able to achieve that. Of course if you only use one belt in and two out its fine, but two in and two out its not!

    What I've started doing when building train stations from the back, is instead of measuring things out I place a placeholder Train Station first. Then I can build (n - 1) Freight Stations off of that placeholder, place the real Train Station up at the front where it's going to be, and then replace the placeholder Train Station with the real last Freight Station for my build.

  • @Spleensgaming
    @Spleensgaming Месяц назад

    Hey Darren, you can use the two tall storages for the buffers at the train stations, it lets you put in 1560/min until the buffer drains

  • @echomande4395

    Another minitip on rails. It pays to lay down curved rail lines between shorty rail stubs (16 meter segments) and delete those stubs afterwards. That way you know the curved rail is pointed in the right directions afterwards. Also, like the blueprint editor, the station modules look better either laid into foundations and look better that way.

    • @WhatDarrenPlays
      @WhatDarrenPlays  Месяц назад

      They don't, but it won't matter overall here in how this is designed. Ultimately when it becomes Mk.3 miners, there will just be one belt coming out of each that splits once.
      A container that is full will output both belts at the same speed, but a container that is just recieving items will output those items faster on whichever output belt was hooked up first. The container doesn't act as a splitter. I'll probably showcase this more in the next one so we can see how it works more closely

    I don't think I've ever built there, so it's good to know that there's no coal 😉
    I can't wait for the full trains episode though. You had some good tips for going in a straight line and turning here, but I'd really want to see how you built larger, more complex lines. I tried trains once so far and had an awful time fighting with the terrain (doing small corrections and inclines). Of course, I thought it was a good idea to go three foundations wide, with a double line for goods at the bottom and a raised middle rail for my personal travel. So that might've been why I had such a bad time with it 😅

    • @WhatDarrenPlays
      @WhatDarrenPlays  Месяц назад +1

      Well I must admit, I'm not good with trains and never fully wrapped my head around signals, not just in this game but in others. It never seems to work how I want. So my overall rail system will have double lines and junctions, but it won't be some mastery of the train system. It'll be fairly straightforward generally speaking.

  • @michaelwaegemans6802
    @michaelwaegemans6802 Месяц назад

    If you use the big buffer before input and use two lines to connect him in the freight platform, you can fill the platform at two times the speed. So for instance, when the train makes everything pause you keep on filling the buffer at 780. When the train leaves, you are filling the freight platform at 2 times the speed. until the buffer is empty again. then its a nice continious 780 again. If you now repeat this process at the other station you can have a nice troughput of 780 continious per freight platform.
    i presume you mean you can not have 2 x 780 lines per platform? The way i design it is I see every freight platform as a 780 belt

      You know, I was curious about this because I hear people mention it a lot. So I decided to do a test.
      Same track length, and I timed a 3, 4 and a 5 carriage train. I timed it by recording the journeys, and used my video editing frame counter to get precise times.
      The 5 carriage did the journey in 59.56 seconds.
      The 4 carriage did the journey in 58.97 seconds.
      The 3 carriage did the journey in 58.65 seconds.
      This is with a track with no elevation climb or descent. I worked out that a 5 carriage in this example, is almost exactly 1% slower. I can live with that :P
