    DIMENSIONAL STORAGE ANNOUNCED!
    Does mercer sphere dimensional storage replace this system? Yes and no. It replaces the train/drone portion and the end sorting blueprint, but, based on what I could see in the teaser, I believe we will still need a way to remotely switch on and off what items get sent into dimensional storage.
    The remote item switch lives! (I think) lol

    • @noizy514
      @noizy514 2 месяца назад +5

      You'll be able to build as many dimensional storage container as you have mercer spheres. There are hundreds of mercer spheres available (numbers has been adjusted). You will be able to put one or many dimensional storage for each item at your production facilities. The more you have, the faster it will refill the dimensional storage. I think we'll be able to have every meaningful items go to dimensional storage. The question is whether the refill rate is adequate enough. If it doesn't refill quickly enough, we might still want to get some deliveries to outpost build sites i think.

      Well, with the benefit of hindsight and information on 1.0, we can now see that the forward-moving logistics into player inventory has been reduced to functionally zero-length at the production source.
      Still one of the great examples of Sushi-belt FTW
      That said, the problem we now have is trash collection in the player inventory, as so much material gets pushed automatically into the DimDep and the is no prioritization or dedication for trash from the inventory.
      Most people would probably just build a dump bin that they may or may not return to, but there may be space for a back-loading logistics solution?

      Sometimes the simplest of things can very easily be the easiest and most practical solutions to your problem set. Sometimes you don't need to overcomplicate things to solve complex problems. Just break it down into smaller components where each of those individual components (problems) are very easy and simple to solve or resolve. What do I mean by this? Think of a complex logical problem... With the use of the rules, properties, laws and tricks with Boolean Algebra we can take any complex problem and use them within the context of a procedural algorithm that utilizes concepts such as De Morgan's Laws, Implication Tables, and Karnaugh Maps through the use of Product of Sums and Sums of Products we can reduce that complex Boolean Expression (Function) down to its simplest of forms by removing any redundancies as well as removing any irrelevant information leaving us with the smallest expression possible with the least amount of terms that has an effect on the output(s) of the function based on its inputs. A bit similar yet a bit different... We do not need to calculate the slope of a given curve or function F(x) such as f(x) = x^5 - 3x^2 + 7 for every input and output pair to find it's slope at a given point. We can simply just differentiate this expression to be f'(x) = 5x^4 - 6x. Then we can apply the argument with the value of x at f(x) say 9 into the functions derivative to find the slope at that given point of the original curve. Therefor the slope of f(x) at F(9) is f'(9) = 5*9^4 - 6*9 = 32805 - 54 = 32751. Where the slope at F(2) would be: f'(2) = 5*2^4 - 6*2 = 80 - 12 = 68. If we add one to the second slope of F(x) we get 69. It's that simple.

    I really like this idea, and I think I'm going to build my own variant that uses packaged water as the "choke" item rather than iron ore. The switches would then control the packagers. When running, they would send the empty containers back to be refilled with the same water. It would have the disadvantage of needing to be "primed" but the advantage of not relying on a nearby resource node that's not already tapped and utilized. Thanks for the inspiration!

If the flows aren't perfectly aligned, there's a chance empty containers end up in a buffer storage for full containers (and vice versa). I'm 160 hours into my first playthrough (U7, so no priority power switches) and so far _almost_ all of my builds have fit into a single inventory trip (todo-list everything, round up to full stacks, add a few extra stacks of concrete/steelbeams/silica for making it look pretty, and plenty of power lines and belt building materials), but this idea will probably come in handy by the time I have to start building the factories for the final Space Elevator parts.

    Previously someone used an airport. Just need to put down a pad and request what you want from a stocked airport with everything available. Not going to stock as many materials quite as fast but you also don't need a train track and need only carry materials for a pad and you always have every item available. This is a great iteration on things that have been done but taking it to the next level. I agree with the water idea though, small blueprint in front of your building as an option. I watched this entire video wondering if you had also discovered my system, but no, you've done it in a different(and more space efficient) way. I had a thought a while back that using a limestone node with the limestone being sinked, I could power on and off the sink and if I did my belting correctly(2 smart splitters, one gets clogged and the extra has to overflow elsewhere) then I could functionally make an item go down Belt A or Belt B based on a power switch. It was a thought in the back of my brain that I had never built, but using iron is smart! I assumed limestone was the best because it was the most available, but using iron means you can use smelters(much smaller and easier to work with) instead of sinks. And they're virtually the same in terms of availability. I've never seen anyone else use this idea before, I'm glad to see someone else has had this thought! Well done on the execution to boot.

    Very clever use of ore/smelter to control item flow via a priority power switch. To me, the internal storage is optional, given that this will be located at a base that presumably supply items as a sufficient rate. Obviously, one needs to keep an eye on item levels as the destination. If left on, the disassembly of the destination storage unit would be the problem this solution solves in reverse - how to get tons of items back to base.

I literally just built my first oil power plant and train system when I found myself running back and forth eating up all my time. After finding dozens of mercer spheres and automizing sam fluctuators, I could build dimensional depots for every building resource, and I can confirm it loads fast enough to put down blueprint after blueprint no matter how large, and you never run out of resources - provided you produce enough.

    having a way to "link" your warehouse to your inventory is such a fun challenge to tackle! the whole "pick your shipment contents" aspect of the priority switch/AWESOME Sink shenanigans is brilliant!
    I'm thinking: we can integrate this system into a drone delivery service too, makes the rail line requirement irrelevant! Tho its fair to point out that once you unlock drones, a central parts storage turns out to be obsolete, since you can just have a dedicated export / delivery drone port on each producing factory which would send you the parts wherever you need em. (bypassing a warehouse / mall / central storage)
    Still, if you had a parts warehouse already set up, implementing this parts picker system to fill up a drone port could mean you can have a drone bring you *just* the stuff you need in one trip (limited to the 9 slot / drone capacity tho)
    altho drones are unlocked much later than trains... so this definitely could be used earlier on to prevent the whole "oh cr*p, i forgor iron rods. now i gotta go all the way back to base" moments lol

I know they've been kinda iffy on adding a logistical system, but having a basic read/write system so you can help resource manage would be huge for this game.
    I also see opportunity for fun things to assist with this! Like maybe a little, highly animated, robot that sits on your back and brings you resources from nearby bins until your inventory has a set amount.

    I know your gonna hate me for saying this, but this functionality is already provided by the truck station. Unpowered, it will not allow belt fed input... but it does drain unpowered. All you need is the priority power switch and truck station.

      You're not the first person to say that. Its all good. Truck stations are pretty big and you can't fit 5 in a BP designer.

    I made a very similar setup that used packagers instead of smelters to make a closed loop of packaging and unpackaging water. Better space efficiency and doesn't require an ore source, but you do have to carry around some packaged water to prime the system to make it work.

    Here's another method using priority switches without water packagers:
    A: Train/truck- Product X out of a local factory to Central Storage
    B: A Central Storage
    C: Train/truck- one input and one output for each product. In station fed by A and keeps filing the central storage. The out station needs to feed from Central Storage and needs a priority switch. This will control what product flows to E
    D: Train/truck- one input and one output. Input from all C's out stations to D's one in station
    E: at a location you want to send things: a recieving station and an auto sorter for all items with an overflow sink. Can be done with two blueprints. Critical: Needs priority switch at in station to stop trucks/trains when done.
    Create a route from D to E. Use priority power switches to turn on products at C, when and what needed- which feeds to D. Use overflow sinks at A and E only to avoid traffic

In my opinion, this game needs better control signals, something like a master controller that contains a patchbox for all built switches

      Thanks. Yea just a few tools would let us do some pretty amazing things.
      Something like power nodes on the inputs and outputs of mergers and splitters to make them logic switches.
      if you connect power to this output of a splitter, it allows item flow combined with if a merger receives a specific item on an input, it connects power to its node.
      Just those two things would allow for some crazy logic splits. A transistor basically of power to belt flow and vice versa.

    That's a pretty cool build. With this kind of build, it appears that Satisfactory is one step closer to being Turing Complete.
    As an aside, what would be really interesting to see within a build like this is to incorporate a second small train station at the receiving end of your new location that would take any overflow materials from incoming material and load the train on the second depot to return back to either the calling station or as in your case, the central storage hub. This train would then unload all of its cargo from the train into a set of buffer storages at your depot that will then go through a priority sorter to be fed back into your main storage where its output feeding back into their respective bins would have priority over the main production lines that are coming in.
    I would design it in this manner so that the returns depot would never over saturate and would always have priority of emptying it's container bin. Also if these are materials that are using within factories such as iron plates, motors, etc... if the depot line is backed up then there would be an overflow line that would take it to another transport system either it being another train, truck routes, or even drones to be taken and dropped off as a source of building materials.
    If they happen to be end products that are expensive to make and are typically not used in other builds then I would have an end of the line storage for miscellaneous items. This would be a relatively large storage area in its own right as it might contain maybe 8-16 double containers itself just to make sure it doesn't easily back up. The only thing with this at the end of the build is the only place that you would have to manually empty and or sort yourself. However, having the overflow fill up a return train to take the materials back would be a nice addition to your current setup.
    Nicely done!

    • @Kinstruction
      @Kinstruction  8 месяцев назад +1

      That would be a cool solution. I deal with most of that issue by just being careful to turn on and off what I'm using, but there are a still a few problems with that as I do end up forgetting sometimes for awhile and they do overflow.

    Pretty neat idea. I was wondering if you'd have something clever for the train loading, so items would be "interleaved" so to speak, so you don't wind up with a train full of item 1 and completely missing items 2/3/4/5. I guess you could just remotely turn off item 1, wait a couple of train rotations, and now you'd be getting the other items. Rinse/repeat until you get all of what you need.

    • @Kinstruction
      @Kinstruction  8 месяцев назад

      Thats basically what I do, and I think with how mergers work, you do tend to get items interleaved.

    This is absolute Brilliant, the use of jamming splitter with another parts that it, and thats why I HATE to do THIS!! Not to take away anything from the brilliancy of thought which went behind this approach but u can achieve the same result using a truck station (just the station, no trucks) and the priority switch.
    Add input and output belts to truck station and it'll only let the items pass from input to output if the power is on, that u can control via priority switch.
    Few pros of that approach would be:
    -much more compact
    -u can have entire 780 item throughput rather than 780 minus 60 using the smart splitter method.
    -less buildings, no need for awesome sink
    -saving iron ore
    Cons would be....I don't know maybe if u can overclock smelter to 200%, u can make it more compact than a truck station, but there is awesome sink as well so I'm not sure
    But please let me know if missing something here.

    Meanwhile, I actually did design something like this - not limited to blueprint space but I used clogged smart splitters as logic - but I was amiss to the ability to control it remotely and I was like, "MAN I WISH THERE WAS A WAY I CAN FLIP SWITCHES ON OR OFF. BUMMER." and moved on with my life. 🤦‍♂
    I'm curious though:
    1. To reposition, you do need to modify the train line each time?
    2. Remotely fetching materials, you still need to wait for the train each time?
    3. Building the sorting output on sight, as well as extending the train line, have you found inventory issues during THAT process? Or is that something you have to be preemptive about?
    4. How does it change with Drones? I haven't clicked on your second video yet, but I'm curious if it's faster / slower, easier to setup, etc?
    5. Your video did a great job at showcasing the product but can you also leave a review of your own product? I'm curious of the pros and cons you have noticed through experience.

    • @Kinstruction
      @Kinstruction  5 месяцев назад +1

      Nice. You got halfway there. 😁
      1. I don't reposition the train line, but do add more train line to the next place. I just re-task the trains to drop off at the new station with a new remote storage/sorter.
      2. I do still need to wait for the train, but its more of a constant process kind of thing. I just have on what I'm using, so its constantly resupplying.
      3. There's a bit of inventory issue there, but just a few buildings/train stations until you get a solution in place beats constructing the entire new factory like that.
      4. The biggest change with the drones is just the delivery system. The max is really 780 (or nearly 780 with the clogging materials taking up some space). Much more likely in the long run the weak link will be your automation capacity. If you're only making 20 Heavy Modular Frames per minute, it doesn't really matter how fast everything gets to you, you'll be getting 20 HMF per minute.
      5. I did that a bit in the next video, that I do see you watched by the time I'm writing this comment.
      I'm glad you enjoyed the video, thank you.

I've been trying to come up with a way to remotely change what is going into the depot. But you could potentially do the priority trick, but you would have to pull a stack from your download depot to unclog the intake of the depot since it stores a stack after the depot item is filled. (Plus the remainder on the belt) But if you could remote activate the storage to start putting what item onto the belt, then there is some potential there.

    i have multiple dimensional storages at my storage for every specific item, i dont even need an inventory anymore. i got 10 filled storages for each item, and 4 dimentional storages on the top of every item, so every item get put in those storages x4, plus my dimensional storages are also fully upgraded.
    There is also a great bug in the game right now where u can just straight copy items, by doing a ''circle'' of a conveyer belt, and putting splitters or mergers where these belt connect, put a storage container in the middle of this conveyer belt ''circle'' and insert ur items u would like to copy and make them go around the belt. Now, simply demove all the splitters / mergers, and ur belt will have doubled, aswell as all ur items that were on the belt.

    It is a good solution, but have one disadvantage.
    If you have only one source and multiple destinations, it will not work for ever. If you turn the power on, you have no control where the items are unloaded. If one destination is full of e.g. iron plates it cant be unloaded and the train cargo have less capacity until it cant load new items.
    To improve that you need a second train station at the source where the cargo is fully unloaded before it loads new items.

      Yes, it's designed to send you materials to wherever you're working. It's purposefully for being fast and temporary, someplace you don't want to spend forever setting up permanent item shipping to.
      If you finish at one lactation, just change the train route to the new location, but ya one at a time was the idea.

    Wait! Before I watch this, my solve is a auto sorter for storage. A train that has a utility cargo behind main engine : then two more engines or cargo/fluid depending on the job. This first cargo can go to a depo base and load a set of pre selected items. ( Collect from different places and get various things)
    Make a storage to auto sort what you'd like and trash or move the rest. Depending on the level of output via beltage. You can get a lot or few of linked items.
    The train runs continuously and stocks it's stations.
    That being said... No idea how this is going to be accomplished 😂 let's see.

    just curious, why have the iron ore come in in the first place, if all ur going to do is sink it? Maybe im just to simple brained to figure that out .

    • @Kinstruction
      @Kinstruction  Год назад +2

      I'm not sinking the iron ore. I'm sinking the iron ingots, but only when I want the switch on and the items to flow.
      So the iron ore blocks the item from flowing because it backs up the smart splitter. Then when I turn on the smelters, it eats the 60 iron ore per minute and that clears the smart splitter, allowing the item we want to flow into the train station. Then I sink the iron ingots.
      The key is coming up with a way to "turn off" a belt using power. My method uses a trash item (iron ore) to block the belt, turning it off.
      Make sure to rewatch the last 5 minutes or so of the video. I go over how that sending blueprint works. I go fast, but all the info is there, you'll see it.

    • @Boo_T_Shayka
      @Boo_T_Shayka Год назад +4

      It goes by pretty quick, but he explains it at 17:55. The smart splitter acts like a valve which is "open" as long as iron ore can flow. The iron flows because there are two smelters consuming them. The power switches assigned at 10:03 turn those smelters on and off, thereby controlling whether their corresponding smart splitter (valve) gets clogged with iron (closed) or not (open).

      Right. Its really about clearing the ore from the line. The smelting does that and the switch turns on the smelter.

A channel member is when you join my channels on youtube. The lowest level is $5 a month. That gives access to my current save file and all my blueprints. That is done on my discord in a members only section.
      I wouldn't have any problem with someone if they wanted to become a member for one month, grab the blueprint/save file, then cancel. But like I said, its kinda the only real value I can provide for a channel membership, unless I kept back footage of my playthrough, which I don't want to do.
