As of 11/11/2024 this NO LONGER WORKS. It was fixed in patch 1.0.0.6. End of an era. I just had used it to create a huge blueprint, last one I'll make. At least we have mk III blueprint designers.
Thanks for the inspiration! Its crazy I saw that video when it had like 200 views lol. Keep up the mad scientist vibes. Its crazy there's still so much to learn about this game.
Saw the video from Pobkac a few days ago and wondered how far it could go. You have inspired me to make something similar in my own world. Thank you for sharing your beautiful creations!!!
Just found your video, while i also discovered first great video of that blueprint expansion video you mentioned. So i ALSO made circular roads (got already 5 degree large roundabout, also finished smaller 10 degree). I maded fully assembled road blueprints, with pilar barrier. So few tricks i learned during design: To have PERFECT lines, edge of circle instead on outside, should be on center of center foundation. Outside gaps are easy to fill with half blocks. I have fillers embedded in blueprint. To avoid clipping, i use methode of rising "1mm": Place pillar on the block that should be UNDER, then from really close grab a barrier and pointing on pillar place it in exact moment when it change color from yellow to blue. Rise is basically invisible, but there is no more clipping, and more important, there is no issue with patterns anymore. To make perfect barriers, first i cut from circle 3 sections. Then bring it back to blueprint designer. I place pilar centered on foundation for outside edge, then fill the gap using beam method. For that you need only two sections, but for inner edge, best nethode is to skip one section, during initial placement, then just fill missing section using beam methode.
1.0 UPDATE: I have confirmed, this still works in 1.0. The extension principle still works. If you're having an issue, join my discord and post screenshots and I'll walk you through how to do it.
Hey man, just wanna say that I discovered your videos today and I must say they are so good ! Definitely deserve a lot more viewers considering the crazy work you put into them ! Your let's play is a gem thank you for that
That sounds like me too. I come up with a new idea and then start a new save. I never actually end up finishing many playthroughs, I keep starting new ones 😂
Not gonna lie that helix at the end is kind of sick! My brain started to think of how to have stop offs at different layer intervals that would work at the cliffs at the red forest down to the grassy plains or from the red forest down to crater lake...my mind is moving faster now than I can think of a solution to multiple logistical verticality issues...Thank you for the insight this will increase my blueprint game tons!
Beautiful work. I saw pobkac's video the other day too and thought it was interesting but you took it and applied it on a huge scale that I didn't envision. Inspiring stuff you're doing over here
So the additional 7 meters is to make sure the walls meet up perfectly with no gaps. Think of it as an additional foundation minus 1 meter (foundations are 8 meters). That distance will give you perfectly smooth wall curves. Experiment with it outside of the blueprint maker first, see if you can do it by hand. Then once you've got it, try doing it as a blueprint with the trick.
very nice video. I tried to do some circles and I had trouble rotating the blueprint. I can rotate using control outside of the blueprint designer but not inside. How could you do it?? I am also interested in how you did the right angle curve, so I can apply it to my roads and train tracks. Could you do another video highlighting this technique?
watched the video again and got it. you rotate the foundation and build on the blueprint on the foundation. the blueprint can rotate on its own. very cool.
Yep exactly, and then for the 90 degree, build the whole circle, then delete what you dont want. You may want to leave a "counter weight" foundation in so its easier to find the middle. If you watch my vid you can see one random foundation to the left of center when I go to build the 90 degree turn. Thats to help me find center of the BP for placing purposes.
Hmm. I suppose I don't consider this a glitch. All rules are being adhered to and it's not a bug. But that's the best part of the game. We can all play the way we like.
This is pretty amazing, but I would still prefer that Coffee Stain just give us a bigger blueprint maker and some curved pieces. I have played this game over 900 hours and I hate the little annoyances that slow down doing simple things like making curved road, trains and buildings. It just shouldn't have to be a hack to do this kind of stuff.
@@Kinstruction I agree and thanks again for sharing, but it seems like such a simple thing and players definitley want that option. C'Mon Coffee Stain, just do it!
Wait are the 5 degree rotations also possible outside of blueprint mode or not? Because i tried doing a nice circle by hand and it looks ugly compared to this. The only way i found was to use road barriers and make 24 rotations and that somehow doesn't quite match up
This is very true. I think I used it a few times in the video. Additional tip. You can hold control while you use your arrow keys and it will move locked holograms .5m.
Well, you could make small sections, kinda pre-lay up to the same width as a blueprint designer. You have to build a thing inside the designer before you can move it to the outside. Still, not sure if its worth the trouble, because so much would have to be built afterward anyway.
You have to place it on something else, usually another foundation that is rotated in the orientation that you want. If you can join my discord and send some pics I might be able to help out more.
hemm i can get to the point where i have 4 foundations but i cant get it to do the incremental rotations even if i hold control down am i missing something here ?
@@Kinstruction ahh I just figured it out I was placing it on a foundation but though I could increment the bp but you must rotate a second foundation then place the bp on that one. There's a few hours I'll never get back. Lol
Ah man, only works with really specific numbers. For example, you used the Hex Frame Window, and when you set it to that specific range outside of the blueprint designer, it fits perfectly next to each other. If you were to put it another instance outside of the designer, the windows would not sit flush with each other. I'm trying to do this with foundations but they can only go so far out of the blueprint designer before their sides no longer connect. It's a fault with the 5% turn radius. If we could go to 1% or half percents, that would be nice.
Yea, you gotta do whatever distance works for the item. But don't forget, you can do half nudges by holding control when you nudge. Should help you lock in the exact right distance for whatever you're building.
I don't understand why they don't make blueprints unlimited size. It's so silly that we need workarounds like this when factorio makes this so incredibly easy.
They say so that people can't blueprint entire factories. I get that, but I wish we had more options. Like a bigger blueprint if we don't include machinery or something.

@@Kinstruction I ended up getting my road curve done. I even made 30 and 60 degree curves left and right. It was a real pain in the ass but I figured it out. They are saved as a complete BP. I don't even need to do any of the foundation messing around or anything, just snap them right on to the end of my straightaways. I also kept the ones that are out at the edge of the (for me) 6 foundation from center distance so if I'm in a weird spot and finding it difficult to snap onto the end of my existing road I can build 6 foundations out, 4 meters down and place the beam which is at the center of the BP down in the center of the foundation and it should be lined up out at the edge. the downside is they use a massive amount of resources due to the overlap of the beams and railings and all that. I'll have to see if I can reduce those down a bit in the original road cross section BP my 90 degree curve uses like 1800 concrete or something stupid like that lol
Probably? But also, they might have bigger fish to fry? Also, when they fix it, I have a feeling they will fix the ability to make the blueprint, but not use ones that have already been made. So....better make what you want now! lol
I don't know why they'd try to fix it. Like Kin said, it doesn't exploit the game in a way that's unfair or takes away from the enjoyment, if anything it allows you to scale up more easily and build even bigger and better things without getting burned out
The scale of the game is BRUTAL and its so sad that the devs just trying to slow us down ... the give us stupid small blueprint desihner why you cant just paint on the ground a square and what is in the square count as a blueprint ? why do you need the extra building from it ... also the mooders xxl blueprint designers are great ... I hope this game will get more love soon coz its strat to be dying for me there isnt end game and some content is missing for me there ... the modding comunity is great and thats keeping in alive ... I hope we will soon se some end game stuff and usage for the S.A.M. ore exetra ... its 10 years in development its about time
Well, 1.0 will come. I've played a lot of games and I love Coffee Stain. I've never played a game that had as good of a company behind it in terms of communication and just love for the game. I know its a slow process, but since there's no endgame, thats why I'm making huge ass buildings lol. In terms of size of blueprint designers, I do get their position. They don't want people doing too much with them. I wish you could have a bigger blueprint if you weren't using machines or something. Well, after this video...we kinda do right? lol
@@Kinstruction BD needs to be big enough to handle the biggest machine in the game which is the nuclear plant. Just the manufacturer takes a lot of the space.
Yea, honestly I think the size of the designer is fine, for most things. I wish we could make it bigger for non-machines, or maybe change its shape but have the same volume, so I could do long and skinny BPs.
Maybe these "builds" should now just be baked into the game. Or not but still it seems reasonable. Just have it be a part of the game since it open up the gameplay even more.
@@Kinstruction I will admit its revolutionary lol. Where can I find more blueprints? I've seen some builds out there that look like cyberpunk 2077 and I would love to find things like that. Thanks for the video tutorial. Wish you didn't cut out some minor things that seems important!
There's a blueprint repository. I've never used it, but I heat it's very extensive. Thanks for the feedback. Usually I get feedback that I didn't cut enough. If you've got any specific questions I'm sure I can answer
I dislike the idea of having to use exploits to build things you want. The devs are stuck in their own way of doing things and refuse to listen to us. Every once in a while they'll toss us a bone. Therefore, using mods is justified.
I think using mods are justified of course, and they've said mods are ok, even though they aren't officially supported. For me, I don't see this as an exploit per se. I see it as a way to use the tools they gave us in a creative way. Like in another game maybe using a specific weapon and skill combo that wasn't intended, but turns out to be very good. In any case, I love putting this stuff out in the wild and seeing how people smarter than me use these tools. 😁
The devs already said it would be way to complicated to implement curved objects bc they would have to redo the entire building system so it’s understandable on why they wouldn’t want to you are the one spending hours code bc it would take for ever
Right. I agree. I think he was mostly talking about building a larger blueprint. Which of course, we do have in 1.0 now. So they WERE listening to us. :)
@@Kinstruction placed 2 foundations with a gap. Made a new bp, cleared. Placed the new bp sticking out of the bp designer. It seemed like it did not recognise the newly placed bp as part of the bp designers entities. You could not delete whole bp as one anymore? Or is that a setting which needs to be turned on? It seems it breaks at exactly this point
I'd already seen Kac's video and it's cool'n all, but to be honest, now that it can be done in vanilla, it just gives me an excuse to use the mod. Now the mod is just a QoL feature.
Well, I'm sure it isn't intended to be done in vanilla lol, so it probably wont be forever. But yea, thats the best part about this game, the customization you can do with mods.
@@Kinstruction Well, there's a large number of mods that are helpful when you're building round/curvy structures, but "the" mod would be 'perfect circles' I think it's called. Does what you did manually in this vid with just two clicks.

I'll have to see if I can reduce those down a bit in the original road cross section BP
my 90 degree curve uses like 1800 concrete or something stupid like that lol
cool vid!
Thank you. I used this technique on my save just last night.
does this still work in 1.0?
I'll find out soon and post a pinned comment.
@Kinstruction cheers dude. I didn't think I'd get a response
I respond to every comment. 😀
Do u think they will let this exploit stay in the game? Unless it's a pain in the arse to fix I think they will patch it.
Probably? But also, they might have bigger fish to fry?
Also, when they fix it, I have a feeling they will fix the ability to make the blueprint, but not use ones that have already been made. So....better make what you want now! lol
@@Kinstruction Good job we can copy blueprints between saves then.
Yes you can. 😏
I don't know why they'd try to fix it. Like Kin said, it doesn't exploit the game in a way that's unfair or takes away from the enjoyment, if anything it allows you to scale up more easily and build even bigger and better things without getting burned out
I could see an argument where they would, but again, fingers crossed they have other problems to get to first lol
Ofc internet would find a way to build outside of the bp designer🤣🤣🤣
Its so useful...lol
This broke the game for sure
Lol still going! My playthrough about breaks the game tho lol
Well, we did get a bigger blueprint maker, so that opens up a lot of possibilities we didn't have in Update 8.
Has this been been fixed?
There have been no updates to the game since I made that video. We will find out Sep 10 if it's still possible to do in 1.0
I dislike the idea of having to use exploits to build things you want.
it got fixed in 1.0 😞
I heard it didn't, but I dont know for sure myself.
I'll check soon.
Which mod?
Not sure myself.
@@Kinstruction Well, there's a large number of mods that are helpful when you're building round/curvy structures, but "the" mod would be 'perfect circles' I think it's called.
Does what you did manually in this vid with just two clicks.
That's good to know. I'm pretty happy with trying to see how far I can push vanilla building, at least for now. 😁
Im not buying your blueprints, lmao. Pity to anyone who does. Look at yakez, doing amazing factories and sharing all of it. Its your right now to, but it doesnt make your channel any better🤣 you didnt even invent the technique. Yakez spends hundreds of hours on some blueprints and still shares them immediately
All my blueprints are free on my discord. No one ever bought them so you don't have to pity anyone lol.
Thanks for the comment though!
