    2 takeaways from that game:
    1. I always knew TMac was a beast, but I've never really watched any of his games. But holy shit I'm pretty sure I had my jaw on the ground for the most of the game watching him.
    2. Love him or hate him, LeBron has been a lad since he was 17. It's impressive to see the way he handled the spotlight.

    • @blueblur2329
      @blueblur2329 3 года назад

      He handled the spotlight by forming super teams and stacking the deck in his favor. Had players in the early 2000s thought of the same thing and just teamed with the best players in the league they could have easily won championships too. Instead they had to carry bad franchises alone with no help and that's exactly what T-mac did here.

    • @connormcdonald5554
      @connormcdonald5554 3 года назад +1

      @@blueblur2329 You have totally missed the point of what I just said, and bashed LeBron for no reason. I said the way he handled the media at that age and the way he continues to handle the media is impressive. That comment had literally nothing to do with his on the court success. And even on that point don't bullshit me with team stacking. You're trying to tell me super teams didn't exist before LeBron went to Miami? The Bill Russell Celtics? The Wilt/Baylor/West Lakers? Moses Malone, Dr. J, Mo Cheeks and the 76ers? Magic and Kareem? Johnson/Bird/McHale/Parish? Duncan and Robinson? Shaq and Kobe?

    • @blueblur2329
      @blueblur2329 3 года назад

      @@connormcdonald5554 Well if you're talking about his media savvy then I'll give you that. He did handle himself well in the interview in the vid. And even now while there are few faulty things that people can point to he still handles the media much better than his contemporaries.
      But since you decided to bring it back onto the court, I'll let you know that Shaq and Kobe, Magic and Kareem, the Celtics of the 80s and 60s were not super teams. The league was much smaller back in the 60s 70s and 80s so a lot of teams had multiple all-star level talent on them. But that does not mean they were super teams. The definition of a super team has always been 3 superstar or at the very least 2 superstars and 1 all-star level talent.
      Super teams were very far and few(69 Lakers, 83 Sixers, 97 Rockets, 04 Lakers and 08 Celtics) before LBJ started doing it and they were usually formed via trade and when guys were at the end of their prime not in the beginning or middle of it. That's why a team like the 08 Celtics, 83 Sixers and 72 Lakers only won 1 championship.
      Via trade and at the end of their prime is important because it helps to maintain the balance of the league. Unlike today where guys join forces through free agency which literally weakens their competition and guarantees their success to win a championship(LBJ, Durant, Curry, Harden, Kyrie etc). And when LBJ hops from team to team he has the benefit of not having to go through a rebuild like Curry currently has to.

    • @connormcdonald5554
      @connormcdonald5554 3 года назад +1

      @@blueblur2329 So you're telling me Magic and Kareem didn't have James Worthy? Bird, McHale and Parish played together in their prime and are all in the Hall of Fame. Dennis Johnson wasn't old either and he was an all-defensive talent. The Bill Russell Celtics literally had a starting lineup of Hall of Fame players for nearly a decade. Jordan had Pippen and Rodman. And even on that point you just agreed with me that super teams did exist before LeBron went to Miami.

    • @blueblur2329
      @blueblur2329 3 года назад +1

      @@connormcdonald5554 Worthy Magic and Kareem weren't all in their prime at the same time. By the time Worthy came into his own and became an elite player Kareem was no longer one.
      As for the Mchale, Parish, Bird and DJ. Dennis Johnson was no longer the player he use to be by the time he got to Boston. All defensive talent doesn't make you a superstar. Mchale didn't start coming into his own until about 85 and the only superstar on that team was Larry Bird.
      As for Bill Russell, ofc he had a team filled with HOF players. *THE LEAGUE WAS SMALLER BACK IN THE 60, 70S AND 80S.* Tons of teams had rosters filled with HOF players.
      Jordan Pippen and Rodman were not a super team. Rodman was not a superstar and wasn't even good enough to make the all-star team during that era. Before he got to Chicago, the Spurs couldn't wait to get rid of him. He was a huge risk that nobody wanted anything to do with.
      Lastly I never said super teams didn't exist before LBJ. I said they existed far and few in between. I repeat only the *69 Lakers, 83 Sixers, 97 Rockets, 04 Lakers and 08 Celtcs* were *super teams* before LBJ. I also said they were done when guys were near the end of their prime and via trade which for the most part maintained the balance of the league for the *long term.*
      LBJ began forming super teams right in the beginning of his prime via free agency which creates a major imbalance issue because the team he leaves doesn't get anything back and it assures that the team he goes to will be dominant for the *long term.* Hence why LBJ was bragging about winning 7 rings before they even played a game yet. Once Miami started going on the decline and get weaker he jumped ship and formed a super team somewhere else making another instant contender and avoiding the process of having to go through a rebuild. A luxury guys who stay on one team like Curry don't have. LBJ popularized guys hopping all over the place in the middle of their prime to get the easy ring as he jumped from 3 different teams in just one decade. KD took his formula and perfected it by going to the Warriors which was already a dominant team. Now he is doing it again with the Nets who everyone knows is gonna win the championship. Harden reputation will change drastically just like LBJ and Durant because he has a ring even though like them he did it in the most easiest way possible. SMH!

    imo, this performance by T-Mac (or even his 46 point game 2 days later) was greater than Iverson's 50+ point games against the Raptors or his 48 point game against the Lakers, Kobe's 50 against the Suns, or LeBron's 51 against the Warriors.
    For one reason, the Pistons were the 4th best defensive team in the league this season while the Raptors and Suns were average, the Warriors were 11th in their respective seasons. Also, AI's 48 points, Kobe's 50, and LeBron's 51 all went to overtime (AI scored 7 in OT, while Kobe and LeBron scored 12 and 2, respectively). Third, LeBron's 51 came when the game was more opened up bc of 3s and softened w/o hand-checks (same with Kobe's 50 although his team wasn't as 3-point heavy). Last, McGrady's 46 points was nearly 60% of his team's total points (77) which is the highest % of a team's total points out of the names I mentioned.
    In terms of the criteria I used, only Vince Carter's 50 points against the 76ers is as (or more impressive) as the 76ers were the best defensive team that season, he played during the hand-check era still, there wasn't as much floor spacing, and he scored all of his points in regulation.

    • @blueblur2329
      @blueblur2329 3 года назад

      Except you're forgetting the fact that the 01 Lakers had the best defense in the playoffs. Their defense was even better than the Spurs defense in the regular season and the Spurs had the number 1 defense in the league that year. And A.I. still dropped 48 on them. Not to mention the Lakers was overall just a better team. So the fact that A.I. was able to bring them back from a huge deficit *to win* and the fact that they were not just a better defensive team but also a better team(as that Lakers team was red hot and on a historic tear) in general makes A.I. 48 more impressive.

      +Jackson they were up 3-1 actually. Pistons had to win last 3 to take that series. If Hill had been playing here, woulda been an interesting storyline in the series at the very least with his history in Detroit. Would be curious how that'd have played out. And yeah it was the first best of 7 too.

      @TRJ2241987 8 лет назад +2

      It always grew longer and longer. The NBA Playoffs used to only be 3 rounds from the 1940s to 1970s. Originally when they added the extra round, the "1st Round", it was Best of 3. That is how the Houston Rockets knocked out the Los Angeles Lakers in 1981, they beat them 2-0 and ended up carrying the momentum all the way to the NBA Finals. They changed it to a 5 Game Series after that to avoid similar "unfair" upsets. Imagine if they had kept the 1st Round Best of 3, it would have changed so much throughout history. Charles Barkley's 1993 Phoenix Suns would have been eliminated in the 1st Round under the original setup.

  • @TRJ2241987
    @TRJ2241987 8 лет назад +26

    Orlando Magic had a legitimate chance to play in the NBA Finals and they let it all slip away because of a rule change. The next season the Magic were the worst team in the league. I remember by the end of the season, nobody was playing with any effort anymore. You don't see a franchise fall apart like that so quickly too often. 2003 was a year that ANYBODY could have been in the NBA Finals. There were only 8 wins separating the 1st & 8th seeds in the East that year. It's also interesting that had Orlando knocked out Detroit, it would have meant that the 76ers would have had a much better path to the NBA Finals as well. Had Detroit not come back from 1-3, it might have ended up being a 2nd Finals appearance for Allen Iverson. I always thought it was a shame that Tracy McGrady and Steve Francis were traded for each other. It would have been interesting to see how things would have panned out if those two just stayed with the franchises they were superstars for.

    • @TRJ2241987
      @TRJ2241987 8 лет назад +5

      Uh, I know who won and lost the NBA title every single year of the leagues existence off the top of my head. My entire post was clearly about East teams. My post had nothing to do with who won the championship. I'm talking about the Magic blew a very real chance to appear in the Finals as the Eastern representative in 2003 and it was because they relaxed after being up 3-1.

    • @TRJ2241987
      @TRJ2241987 8 лет назад +3

      I brought up Philadelphia 76ers because had Orlando beaten Detroit in the 1st Round, the 2nd Round would have been 76ers/Magic, I think that would have been a better matchup for Philadelphia as well, in real life the 76ers were handled quite easily by the Pistons, but I think had the Magic faced the 76ers, Philadelphia would have matched up much better to them, and possibly won. The Eastern Finals could have just as easily been Nets/76ers, but because Orlando let Detroit win, it forced 76ers to play Pistons who they did not match up well with having traded Mutombo the season before.

      Fam, people wanna discredit those Nets teams like they didn’t sweep Boston and Detroit on their way to the finals. If Orlando was so good they wouldn’t have blown a 3-1 lead and got blown out in game 7. The Nets were the best team in the east that year by far. Don’t let regular season records fool you. Injuries and so many factors play into that. Come playoff time Nets handled their business and the Magic didn’t.

    WTF Lebron at this game. Was he a rookie or did he get drafted that summer after the playoffs?

    • @TRJ2241987
      @TRJ2241987 8 лет назад +5

      He had already played on ESPN at that point. I'll never forget watching LeBron vs. Carmelo on ESPN in the Winter of 2002/03. That was a really unique thing.

    Think about this if T-Mac would have stayed a magic they would have gotten Shaquille O’Neil and no need to draft Dwight Howard instead drafting a guard in the draft or a small forward to replace grant hill things would have been easier for Orlando

    The birth of CHOKE RIVERS.
    What a horrible coach. He won in 2008 because of the talent and depth of the Celtics.
    Should've won 3 with that lineup, but yet his choking abilities got the best of him.

    Wow, the East was so weak this season: Detroit was the number 1 seed and they only won 50 games. They were the only team in the East that won 50 or more games.

    • @halowarrior917
      @halowarrior917 Год назад

      The Chicago Bulls made the playoffs at 30-52 and 38-44 in the 80s. Was the East weak then? Orlando was the 8 seed at 42-40, this season.

      @@halowarrior917 In the 1984-1985 season, the Bulls ended with a 38-44 record, but there were many elite teams in the East that season = Celtics with 63 wins, Bucks with 59 wins, 76ERS with 58 wins.
      In the 1985-1986 season, Bulls ended with a 30-52 record. But again, there were many elite teams in the East = Celtics with 67 wins, Bucks with 57 wins, 76ERS with 54 wins, and Hawks with 50 wins as the 4-seed.
      In 1986-1987 season, Bulls ended with a 42-40 record (which is what you usually see from an 8-seed). Celtics had 59 wins, Hawks had 57 wins, Pistons had 52 wins, Bucks had 50 wins.
      In this 2002-2003 season, Pistons had the 1-seed in the East and they only had 50 wins. No other team in the East had 50+ wins. This 2002-2003 season was open house for everyone in the East to make the NBA Finals.

      @@hmhm856 or, hear me out, it could be that there was actual parity in the East, as opposed to a couple dominant teams and scrub teams that make the playoffs. Also, I'd like to add that in 2004-05, Cleveland missed the playoffs altogether at 42-40. The East wasn't weak. It was balanced.

    My goodness Kemp looked completely fat and out of shape. It's sad how his turned out after being traded from Seattle in 1997. All of his substance abuse problems, weight problems, and paternity problems killed his career. He was on his way into the Hall of Fame. Just sad.
