Unfortunately they traded Stevie Franchise to Orlando in the T-Mac trade in the offseason following this series. Too bad, who knows whether Steve + Yao would have been a better fit in the long run if both of them could have stayed healthy
Rockets biggest mistake in the Yao era was that they never ran the offense with Yao as the main offensive player. It was either Francis or TMAC that the Rocket offense was set-up as the number one offensive player on the team
I dont think Rocket fans care too much about the Lakers, since the Rockets do have a history of beating the Lakers in the postseason (1981-1986) and the Rockets did win two title in the 1990s Spurs, I guess they hate them, but it was just a rivalry that both won and lost. But Kings definitely, 2000-2001-20002
2004 Kobe was the enigma Kobe. Anomalie Kobe. Legal trouble year and all that he wasn't the same physically / emotionally. Skinniest he ever was too. Less time and energy that year etc. His pure skill could only took him so far.
Incredible at what? Ruining this whole year raping a woman and throwing up brick after brick in the finals cause he couldn’t live with Shaq winning another finals mvp
People like to act like Malone wasn't injured in the finals. But tmac was always injured. But I'm not saying that's the only reason lakers lost. Just saying people forget People need to watch and read old sorts news to really hear how lakers and Kobe were talked about. People try to revise and make it seem like Kobe wasn't everything they say about lebron
Alex Howard His last year in Orlando where his team had worst record in the nba, he came out and said he wanted to be traded to Houston to play with Yao. And every year after getting bounced out of the 1st round, he had excuses for days and cried about not having enough help. I grew up during this era of basketball and Steve Francis and TMac were my fav. Players at the time, then TMac pulled this crap.
They did start 18-3 and were on pace to be the one seed in all the NBA and win like 65 games. But they were never the same after those first 21 games, with the injuries and all the drama. Its still one of the most "unique" teams to follow in NBA history, along with the 1997-1998 Bulls, 2010-2011 Heat, and 2015-2016 Warriors
They say that because Lebron didn't have one or two great games at this age but he is still a top 10 NBA player currently which you can't tell about the above mentioned three.
Kobe and Malone had terrible chemistry on court together- bryant clearly didn't want to pass to him. Karl sets a nice screen- rolls to the hole or to an open 16 ft jumper and Kobe is no Jon Stockton....Payton wasn't much of a facilitator in this game either- run some pick in roll with karl shit.
Mattathias Macabees it’s too bad Phil Jackson could never figure out the team chemistry. Both Payton and Malone should have came off the bench and be part of a strong 2nd unit. Fisher should have started with Kobe because Fisher is more of a spot up shooter. Payton is more effective dribbling the ball. I would have also started Rick Fox vs Dev George. George was younger and more athletic and it would have helped balanced the age of Payton and Malone. Medvedenko should have started as he was a pretty good 3 or shooter. Malone needed to rest more also. Jackson played him too many minutes and he got hurt. Frustrating season for sure.
That's true. Kobe & GP just aren't a good fit. Both of them gotta have the ball in their hands. Same reason the glove really didn't fit well with the heat with Wade on the floor. But he did have some clutch moments and got a ring then, so good for him.
It's weird how you can't seem to find definitive information about this. Although only 27 players have ever played past Age 39 in history, so I guess it's not that hard to break it down and figure it out.
Karl's last great game. He flat out carried the Lakers here.
Xavier Vega Karl Malone was actually pretty good in the playoffs before he got hurt I think.
Nah- he had great defensive games vs garnet next rd. Till he re injured that knee.
Mattathias Macabees
Did he reinjured it in the wcf or in g3 of the finals?
@@wallstreetzoomer wcf but tried to play hurt- then finally by game 3 couldn't even walk.

This intro at the beginning used to give me goosebumps. I was the happiest kid when the NBA on ABC was on
Hi Wilson!
I’m sorry you didn’t know the NBA on NBC. That intro would come on and the hair on your arms would stand up. You knew it was time to watch basketball
Well it might be coming back 🎉
Vintage Malone with the elbow jumpers!
First year with the Lakers and almost won his first ring in his final season
Well he did have 2 of the best players ever on the team
Almost pretty much sums up his championship quest for his entire career! Played with great players too!
Amazingly this was the only playoff series Steve Francis ever played in his entire NBA career.
I hate how this is true and how poorly his career ended considering he was my favorite player to watch growing up.
Wow I never knew that! Could sworn we played him at least twice vs Hou
He was an unbelievable athlete but was not a player for winning team basketball.
Steve Francis was a piece of shit glad his career was very short.

Malone getting hurt was a huge loss for the Lakers. Who knows maybe Shaq isn't traded and the roster doesn't get broken up.

Miami gained
@Jeff Malone Injury to Malone cost title, wife of Kobe probably also flirted with Malone when he was on the bench.
true , i agree.
Kobe wasn't settling for being Shaquille's "sidekick" anymore. 1 of them had to go because of massive egos.
Kobe is incredible

Can you not see that this is on ESPN Classic? Which is why they condense the game..
Hardwood Classics often skip parts of the game that were irrelevant.
