It's time for some unpopular opinions! What are some popular metal bands or non-metal bands that you just don't particularly get much out of, and why?! If you love any of these bands, that's totally okay. They're all super talented and worthwhile, it's just not for me more often than not, is all. Let me know down below your thoughts, though!!!!!!! But for now, cheers, rock on, stay heavy and have yourselves a fantastic rest of your day or night, depending on when you see this!!!!!!! :)
I really dislike the music of sleep token. I just really dislike the singing. Nothing against the band themselves, they are doing a great job, but I cant listen to it.
Ghost, Nickelback, Oasis, Coldplay, Limp Biskit, Bring Me The Horizon (some songs are good, but most of it is very mallcore), Megadeth (cannot stand Mustaine's vocals). I didn’t include any extreme metal bands because there's only so much of that music I can listen to before wanting to listen to something more easy listening with singing. Honestly, most rock/metal is a guilty pleasure for me
For me, I just struggle to enjoy Sleep Token. I’ve found some general enjoyment from the songs Eucelid, The summoning and Granite. But I can’t stand the jazzy, ambient.. other random genre bending they do. I’m not usually against genre bending, but I just feel like they can’t seem to get it right (I mean for my personal taste ofc) And I’ve really tried to enjoy it. But I get irritated. It’s a shame because I like the idea of the lore behind the band. But the actual music just isn’t for me.
I can see that completely. I really do think they take a lot of the simplest things and put them into their music in a very non-impressive way. I do get behind some of their catchiness, but I don't go out of my way to check them out.
I really like Fallujah. I also happen to like Paradise Lost and Blood Incantation as well. Portal’s a hard band to get into so even though I like them, I understand not being a fan of them. My 7 bands I hate/dislike would be: 7. Sleep Token 6. Trapt 5. Ice Nine Kills 4. Motionless in White 3. Five Finger Death Punch 2. Black Veil Brides 1. Falling in Reverse
Let me just comment about your opinion of Xasthur, your observation isn’t really wrong, Xasthur himself has said he more or less feels this way about his music it’s why he stopped doing black metal, he’s described it as “I can’t keep scratching the same 3 chords and play the same 5 generic power chords anymore” he’s started making country blue grass he calls “doomgrass”
I cant seem to get into suffocation. I have been TRYING desperately. People hyped them up so much but they just dont do anything im excited for. All the hyp around the new album got me trying to check out their older albums (breeding the spawn was actually pretty fucking rad) but the rest just sound lik blasts beats and tremolo and downtuned thrash riffs like any other "basic" death metal bands. Now i Respect the living hell out of suffo. Inovators of their time. Frank mullens is a solid vocalists. But its hard to find songs that groove or stick with me. No disrepect. Also if you have any songs to recomend from them that you think could help, pease do
That's totally valid. When it comes to early tech-death stuff, Suffocation never particularly appealed to me much, either. So I am not sure I'd be the most help lol. I've tried to get into them too, to no avail.
How can you not like effigy of the forgotten is nuts actually. Self titled, infecting the crypts, liege of inveracity, seeds of suffering Jesus wept. Insane songs. And it’s also the most easy to listen to compared to all of their albums.
I hated Falling in Reverse too until I ACTUALLY LISTENED TO THEM. The first album has some amazing songs. I revisited after Radke started dropping truth in his public statements. Made me respect the guy. Their lead guitarist in particular is really great and their live performance is very true to the record
I agree with Falling In Reverse for SURE. I think ronnie's just sort of insufferable as a person, and his lyrics sorta reflect how shallow of a person he also is on social media, i think the music on it's own is fine but he just ruins that band for me sadly
i agree with all of these 😭 i don't necessarily dislike them but some of the hype for them is kinda crazy. for bands i don't really like, honestly don't get the new sleep token obsession (the vocals are so annoying and i can't get past them)
That is one hell of a hot take on Xasthur. Prison of Mirrors all by itself blows nearly any other DSBM track away. Subliminal Genocide, Telepathic, and the Leviathan split are all absolutely S-tier. I'm wondering if that kind of severe DSBM just isn't your thing in general. Also Ronnie Radke is a fucking toolbox and his "rap" shit is so painful to listen to. As for my hot take bands I dislike, gotta go with Wintersun, Dream Theater (not metal but hey), literally anything Colin Marston does, aaaaand... let's say Emperor just to be contrarian.
That's a totally valid way to look at it. and I should say, Leviathan's split is actually one of the best parts of Xasthur's discography I've heard. I've deep-dived it, and really did enjoy it sparsely and enjoyed Malefic's approach to homelessness and things relating to harsh life. And it's odd, because like you said you wondered if I hadn't liked that type of music, quite the contrary--I enjoy music that is even harsher/more brittle than Xasthur in comparison. I suppose that I've just been so accustomed to listening to the most depraved and sorrowful takes on DSBM that came as a RESULT of his works, that going back TO his works feels a bit vapid in comparison? It's nothing against the project itself because Xasthur is certainly one of the better DSBM bands and if I was given the choice to listen to a Xasthur record or a generic DSBM solo project that is horrific, of course I'll join Xasthur 10 times out of 10. But something just feels like it doesn't click for me personally. :) (And it's funny, my favorite Xasthur album is Nocturnal Poisoning, which isn't listed here, so makes me wonder what I'm seeing differently hehe) cheers!
Sidenote, those are solid picks. Out of prog stuff, I dislike dream theater a lot. I prefer Caligula's Horse in that vein. :) And I think Emperor are overhyped LOL
@@TheMetalTempestYT Whoa! Thanks for the big reply there. I wonder what DSBM bands you think surpassed Xasthur though. Again, not trying to say you're wrong or anything, I'm just curious what the perspective here is and what elements of his sound might not be vibing with you. But that's the beautiful thing about this crazy style of music, the spectrum is SO broad and varied that there's no shortage of bands out there that can tap RIGHT into each of our little preferences.

I really dislike Psychonaut 4. DSBM in general isn't really my cup of tea, but I can get behind Xasthur, Leviathan (even though I don't consider him DSBM), Nocturnal Depression, None, and a few others. That said, I think Psychonaut 4 is honestly terrible. I jokingly refer to them as "Bad post rock with a crying Elmo on vocals," and the music comes off as really try-hard to me. Because of how clean their records sound, I feel like any power that their messages might have is totally lost, too. Also, I think I remember one of the members being accused of some shady activities with a minor, so that isn't helping their case
Radiohead. My top band I still can not understand the appeal of is Radiohead. I've attempted entire albums in one go, and I always find it very boring and bland. Maybe it's the lyrics? An emotional connection people have? I've genuinely tried to get into them dozens of times throughout the years and it just hasn't clicked yet. Agree with all these btw, except I do love Portal, for all the reasons you listed lol. They were actually a huge gateway for me to get into noisier, less tolerable music. It's so weird to say that as an appealing factor. But I completely understand why so many people just can't get into it.
About Fallujah. In my take, "The Flesh Prevails" ("Dreamless" coming second) is their best work mixing the Technical Death Metal with Post Atmospheric Ambience. I think it has the most memorable guitar work done in my opinion.
i think that ronnie radke's behavior is why he is so succesfull and has so many fans, people have put this image onto him so, he plays into it. i personally really like him and his art, but i can totally see why you hate the band and why you dislike ronnie radke. he is an asshole but at least he is an entertaining one at that
I have tried Portal quite a lot of times because imperial triumphant is my favorite band and they are their biggest influence but for the moment I can't enjoy it. Probably because of how overwhelming their records are. I guess imperial triumphant's little melodic catchy moment that a lot of songs of their last albums miss me
Metallica and Ghost. Metallica is just me not really listening to them so I never really got into them especially after LuLu and St Anger. Ghost on the other hand was mostly being let down, from the image I expected gutturals and blast beats and I got some melodic style metal. Don’t hate either but don’t particularly like them
Fallujah is very cool for guitar players, as personally I think the lead playing is very unique and beautiful. The vocals though are too one dimensional

Aww Falling in Reverse is my favorite band lol, and I love the Ronnie ETF days still to this day. It's all still love though. I do really enjoy the "tortured artist" thing I think, it's probably why I also gravitate to bands like The Bunny The Bear and Emmure. The band I've tried to get into that I even feel like I should like... but I just don't, is Periphery. I even like Misha's solo guitar stuff but when it's all put together, it's just not for me, I get kinda bored.
Honestly, I think FIR are extremely catchy and the songwriting itself is very fun at its core. It's just...Ronnie as a person entangles himself so much into his music, separating it is hard. And it's not like, just hating him because I think the dude's hilarious and funny. But by the same token, I think it's very tryhard and cliche and I haven't been too hot on the way he's expressed that musicianship in recent memory, even if he does clearly have a lot of talent as a frontman!
@@TheMetalTempestYT With as much hate as the man gets, of course he wears his heart on his sleeve. Also, as a musician myself, it is kinda hard not to put yourself into your music when you are the one writing it. I think I would get kind of annoyed too if people did to me what they do to him.
I get why you wouldn't like Xasthur. For his best material I think it's certainly an album band. I find it fully intentional that it feels like 6 or 7 static dirges that are all slightly darker than the last. They're definitely not a band with many bangers. I think they're honestly better than many other DSBM bands like later Dodsferd. The portal hate is crazy to me personally. Bands like that I think are the future of true metal. In your intro you mentioned that these bands aren't worth leaving hate on but falling in reverse is absolutely worth dumping on
I will admit I don't listen to any of these seven... as to bands I don't like? I'm not sure I could list any as I'm just too damn old to really concern myself with bands I wou;dn't listen to.
Rage Against the Machine. Now, I do listen whenever I'm driving since it's opulent funk-rock and somewhat catchy. The main reason I listen, however, is that A) I despise their politics, but B) they get frequent play on commercial radio, ergo C) they make their politics look foolish and hypocritical, yet D) the melodramatic vehemence is actually kind of funny. I could also say E) they didn't last that long and are only immortalized by the few albums they made in the nineties when profit-seeking companies would tolerate their presence. Not to mention, radio play will edit out all the verbal profanity in a complete double-dose of irony. "...Are the Same Who Burn Crosses" is such an exaggeration about the police that is statistically untrue on dozens of levels, but the "____ ___ I won't do what you tell me!" mantra is even more hilarious. This is the same kind of politics they call woke, but it's been sleazily adapted into capitalistic radio play, thereby negating their messaging in one fell swoop. If I still listen to an even reviled band, it's likely because the music is catchy and I often can never hear the lyrics without straining my ears to begin with. Tool comes as a close second because they deliberately mask the lyrical content in a coy attempt at having their audience interpret meaning without being given the luxury of a lyric sheet. Misconstruing ambiguity with artistry and then somehow profiting off of one without the other is just annoying.
wow, you hit the nail on the absolute head with a big complaint i have about a lot of socialist/communist stuff. it's not even inherently with what they believe in/their messaging because hey, to each their own--we're all entitled to our own opinions and to fight for things we love and believe in truly is admirable. but they actively shoot themselves in the foot by going against the very message they preach. their counterculture means very little when they are countering nothing about the culture and in fact, drowning in it. i won't lie and say they don't have some really kick ass tracks. but when you actually get to the meat of their material, it does come across a bit pretentious for what they are trying to do--especially when there are SO many hip hop bands out there from the 80s/90s and collectives that tackle the same exact topics they did but tastefully and genuinely. HARD agree here.
" '...Are the Same Who Burn Crosses' is such an exaggeration about the police that is statistically untrue on dozens of levels" " *Some* of those who work forces..." It seems as though you missed a key word there. You're right, most members of the police probably don't burn crosses and haven't historically. Congratulations for figuring this out; I suppose because you misheard it, the lyric is therefore totally vapid and devoid of any meaning at all. The song instead should have gone, "The majority of police officers throughout history and up to the present day have not engaged in mass violence or terror or been a part of abhorrent groups, although there is and has been aspects to police culture that probably aren't conducive to positive change and are worthy of being criticized, but please do not misconstrue what I am saying to mean that all police officers are bad people!" That would be a very catchy lyric, and I'm sure you would be just as charitable to it. Your own biases absolutely shine through here; you don't have to like the lyric, but you know very well that you're being wilfully obtuse about it. It being "statistically untrue on dozens of levels"(?) doesn't mean anything at all when there's no statistical claim being made in the first place, and ironically is probably the most shallow, one-dimensional response you could have to the song. If you're deeply concerned about truth and taking song lyrics literally and at surface level, it's actually a completely true statement; yeah, *some* police officers are racist and some have been in the past too. There's something to be said about left-wing artists compromising their values regarding the ownership of their own material, being censored for palatable radio play, etc. At the same time, it's pretty sad that this is the way it is in the first place; it certainly doesn't just apply to leftist artists. I don't think that playing the game precludes you from being able to criticize it in any way. This comment reeks of people calling them "Rage For the Machine" because they had mask mandates at their shows during the pandemic while wearing a "conservatism is the new punk rock" shirt and seeing no irony in that.
As for your choices I've heard of, I actually like Paradise Lost, but that's my taste. Falling In Reverse and Ronnie are try hards, I understand you there, overproduced musak. As for Ice Nine Kills, they're sort of like a metalcore Slipknot for scene kids. I haven't listened to much of INK, but I think there's a bit too much flak from you. Here's my 8th choice for bands I hate: Motionless In White. Very meh.
Metalcore Slipknot for scene kids is the best possible way I could describe Ice Nine Kills, my God lol. And that's valid for MiW, I think a lot of people dislike them for a very similar reason and that's totally understandable! And nothing wrong with enjoying Paradise Lost. :)
7 bands I can’t stand are 1. Five Finger Death Punch 2. Killswitch Engage 3. Sleep Token 4. Brand of Sacrifice 5. Falling in Reverse 6. Breaking Benjamin 7. Post-Clayman In Flames
Naw you hate xasthur can't watch you no more unscribed 😡😡😡😡 Naw I'm messing with ya. If I had to pick a metal project I dislike it's Sunn O))). They. Are. BORING
>7 bands I hate. >I dislike these bands, but I don't mind it if you like them and I respect and understand where they are coming from. Hate is a strong word. You don't hate these bands. You dislike them. If you think a band is forgettable then you're apathetic towards them. Imagine makin' multiple vids about BM, extending even to NSBM, and not using the word "hate" properly. You just don't vibe w/ them.
Eh, I do define it as closely to hate as can be described. I can respect something I hate. I hate a LOT of politics, and yet I can get where they're coming from. Understanding/respecting something that you hate should be more of a common thing than it is, but sadly it's not. There are some downright despicable things I despise, but I still know that it has its merit to the people who enjoy it. Hope that makes sense, and it's not in my place to say it's intolerable to someone ELSE who resonates. It's also a matter of wanting to make it clear I don't hold it against those who do enjoy it, and want to be constructive with my criticism. I can detest or even violently disapprove of something but still understand that others do not.
10. Watain -- I almost gave this to Burzum but I think more people hate Burzum for Varg's politics than the music in general. Watain has both shitty human beings and shitty music. 9. Party Cannon -- This is the only band that has truly said they hated me, and the feeling is mutual. 8. Rammstein -- I suppose you could technically call them a metal band but in short, they are awful musicians. 7. Ahab -- funeral doom fucking sucks, period. 6. Cattle Decapitation -- There's a reason why Trump made it a felony to commit cruelty on animals and I'd like to think it's because when an animal is tortured it sounds like Cattle Decapitation. I've never tortured an animal, I have no desire to torture an animal and I have no desire to listen to the music of Cattle Decapitation. 5. Six Feet Under -- Yeah, no thanks. 4. Carnifex -- If I ever wanted metal to sound like two cars crashing into each other at 150mph, I would listen to Carnifex. 3. Otep -- I can see bands being rude to fans, I can't see bands being rude to OTHER BANDS. My friends in Doll Skin had to wrap up their set before she even came on. Screw her. 2. Devourment -- no, I don't think the sound of a pig being sliced in half while trying to shit a bowling ball is anything worth talking about, thank you. 1. Brojob -- Brojob is like the guy who comes to your house, lays an upper decker and then laughs at you and says "Guess what I did to you!"

Jokes on you, im seeing Falling in Reverse live in January
🤢🤮
I get why you wouldn't like Xasthur. For his best material I think it's certainly an album band. I find it fully intentional that it feels like 6 or 7 static dirges that are all slightly darker than the last. They're definitely not a band with many bangers. I think they're honestly better than many other DSBM bands like later Dodsferd. The portal hate is crazy to me personally. Bands like that I think are the future of true metal. In your intro you mentioned that these bands aren't worth leaving hate on but falling in reverse is absolutely worth dumping on
I only listen to one band, for the rest of my life, and that'll be Slayer
looking very deathcore today
agreed i guess except 1 thing: portal's Ion i did find very fun to listen
SCREW FALLING IN REVERSE!!!
Based alert
I will admit I don't listen to any of these seven... as to bands I don't like? I'm not sure I could list any as I'm just too damn old to really concern myself with bands I wou;dn't listen to.
That's honestly so valid! You stick with what you know, and there's nothing wrong with that whatsoever!
I disagree with you on Blood Incantation, Fallujah, Paradise Lost, Xasthur and Portal, personally I love them.
I like portal - but i can see why some dont.
I like the albums: ion , seepea.
#1 sleep token….
😂😂
FIRST YAAAAAA
" '...Are the Same Who Burn Crosses' is such an exaggeration about the police that is statistically untrue on dozens of levels"
" *Some* of those who work forces..."
It seems as though you missed a key word there.
@@jayargee492 Charity is a woman's name.
By the way, is there a band you actually do hate or what?
I have been looking for more catchy bands … ( no core lol.)
I lost my feel for FIR for a while now. Even though I respect Ronnie a lot. But hey Ronnie thought us “Don’t mess with Ouija boards”
7 bands I can’t stand are
1. Five Finger Death Punch
2. Killswitch Engage
3. Sleep Token
4. Brand of Sacrifice
5. Falling in Reverse
6. Breaking Benjamin
7. Post-Clayman In Flames
Thats ok - that just sounds like you have a better taste 😊.
Omg you have to be joking with breaking Benjamin 😮? You hate them? Omg. Nooooooo
@@yellowrich yes
Naw you hate xasthur can't watch you no more unscribed 😡😡😡😡
Naw I'm messing with ya. If I had to pick a metal project I dislike it's Sunn O))). They. Are. BORING
YT definitely needs more people talking about the things they hate. Not enough of it.
People who say “Hate” is a strong word are either stupid or are in denial
womp womp
You look 13
Ice Nine Kills opened for Metallica when I saw them.... They were forgettable at best....
1. Brojob -- Brojob is like the guy who comes to your house, lays an upper decker and then laughs at you and says "Guess what I did to you!"
that's actually the point of cattle decap, they are all vegans
also what happened with party cannon
