I'm in my 60's, and I like prog. But I never got Rush. I no longer have any of their albums, I've tried, but I don't get it. But after Rush you mention Journey, and those I don't even want to try.
Thanks so much - wow what a compliment. My sister made me one as a gift. One day if my channel ever gets big enough maybe I'll do merch....in my dreams right? Thanks so much - gonna let my sister know. I actually have some great ideas for a logo for my channel - would be great if I could do it one day. I'll work on it.
well I bought all those Queen albums and listened to every one at least 5 times each. I find them good at best. I have some Rush as well, but sorry can only take Geddy Lee's vocals for so long.
Loved this segment Alan. We are on the same page except I would reverse Rush ad Yes. Rush to me is listenable and Yes drives me crazy. Merry Christmas Alan!
I cant get past your views on Queen. If you are a prog fan I cant believe you dont enjoy AT LEAST the debut and Queen II? I agree they lost me by the early 80's, but IMO the deep tracks are more impressive than the big hits. Death on Two Legs! Stone Cold Crazy! Fight From the Inside! Its Late etc etc
I did multiple videos on Queen. I did an experiment. I bought all their original Queen albums (except I'm missing Queen II). I listened to every album between 5 to 8 times and then did an in depth review. You may want to see those. I did it with an open mind. I don't actually hate them. Their unique, great musicians and studio alchemists. But beyond their greatest hits, which somehow have made them the biggest, most valuable band in the world (absurd compared to The Beatles, Stones, Who and Zeppelin), they' catalog is good at best.
Talking Smack about Billy Joel? Thats unacceptable You are now getting kicked off Long Island!! I'm calling either the Nassau or Suffolk Police for such Blasphemy 😅😅
Very entertaining video Alan. Although I never like to use the word hate, I know what you mean. Some people will like artists we don't like and vice-versa. You know, some of the criticisms you make against some of these bands, some people would respond that the Stones are no better, hanging on longer than they should, replacing Charlie rather than calling it quits. Then there's the "They haven't made a good album since Tattoo You over 40 years ago" or some would substitue Tattoo You with Exile, or Sticky Fingers. Regardless, as Stones fans, we've heard it all, and personally I don't care what people say, I love the Stones so deeply, and I can be crticial of them, but they continue to touch me in ways that I sometimes don't even expect. I'm always discovering something new with the Stones. So, I agree with most of your list as is, especially Dave Matthews, never liked him even though I had a buddy in the mid-2000's that raved about him. I'm a little hesitant about your choice of Queen, but I'll say they aren't a go-to band for me even though some people rank them higher than the Stones in the pantheon of rock, at least Freddie Mercury as the best front man ever. To each his own, but nobody beats Mick Jagger as a front man. Another band I am critical of is Pink Floyd, many great songs and some great albums, but their early post-Syd Barrett albums are filled with lots of noisy, rambling, non-coherent musicianship. I hate it when songs get lost in noise for the sake of showing off technical abilities, just doesn't do it for me. The Grateful Dead are another band I don't care for. Besides a few good songs, this is a dull band for me, not interesting at all. On a Stones note, I always thought their bailing out at Altamont (their own home turf) was never emphasized enough about how it contributed to the chaos of that day, but that's a debate for another day. Another band I really do not like is Kiss, too much gloss and theatrics and very few songs I like, and the make-up shtick (that's gone on and on for years) just doesn't do it for me. Compare them to Alice Cooper, the first band (front man) to have outragesous make-up and over-the-top theatrics, Kiss just doesn't measure up to Alice Cooper at all, not even close. Alice was original, with numersous great songs and albums, and unlike Kiss, seeing Alice live with his make-up is an essential part of the act. He still wears it well. It just doesn't seem to get old. Then there's Neil Young, never like his voice. I acknowledge his accomplishments but it's kind of like Geddy Lee of Rush, just a voice I don't care for. Also, Neil Young's guitar sound wears thin for me, with solos that often repeat from one song to another, sometimes rambling on. I like his original work of the early 70's, but not much since then, but his voice, even back then, was always an issue for me. Thaks for a fun video, Alan. In the end, to each his own, whatever turns you on.
Thanks for your awesome passionate comments. As you so well said, music is to each his own. I like some of Kiss's early albums, but like you said, I never take them seriously and certainly not in the same league as the classic Alice Cooper years. I love your comments on Floyd - its a really interesting topic that few cover and I'm in full agreement with you. Those early albums, not including Piper, really don't have much in the way of songs - Water's actually admitted it. They only became "songwriters" much later on blooming of course on Dark Side but their run from Dark Side onward is pretty exceptional, except I don't care for Final Cut album. Neil Young to me is like Prince - way too many albums released, it never stops, I can't keep up and stopped years ago. No filter with him - just pushing the material out, while he's alive which is very cool, but too much for me. I actually like the Dead alot - but I'm in the minority that I like the Studio albums. The live jamming goes on and on - and really oftentimes nowhere. Thanks so much again.
Ha! You echoed my sentiments exactly with a lot of these bands, including what you said about Under Pressure. Without Bowie it probably wouldn't appeal to me because, well, it's Queen. Thanks, Alan, for making those of us who aren't fans of Queen and Rush and Journey and Billy Joel, etc., feel not quite so lonesome.
Hi Alan! I really enjoy your show! The topics are very varied, but up to now all within my own interests. Man, our generation had some good taste in music! This list in particular, apart from maybe one or two names, EXACTLY in line with houw I feel about those artists (particularly the voices you mention......). It was so close to how I usually express my dislike about many of these artists when in conversation, that at times I laughed out loud.
This is a bold list…hahaha. Had to comment and THANK YOU for your #1 on this list! I do not get the appeal there either - that dude sounds like Kermit the Frog. I grew up on LI too and detest Billy Joel, so I guess I’ve always been a rebel 😂
Absolutely agree with you, Alan! These are all great bands and performers, but they're just missing something for me. I can't put my finger on it, they just don't click with me.
Alan, just when I think your videos can’t get more fun to watch, you give us this one! As a fellow Long Islander, I could barely control my laughter as you described how you felt like driving off the road and killing yourself after hearing the same Billy Joel song played on the radio for the umpteenth time. I so get that! There’s just no escaping the piano man on his home turf. Out of the ten popular musicians/performers that you hate, four of them make my own list. For me, Queen is the king of bands that I can’t stand. To my ears, the majority of Queen songs that I’ve heard couldn’t be more bombastic, or more dependent on studio gimmickry. In concert, Freddie Mercury’s stage presence is just too campy for my personal taste. When it comes to frontmen commanding an audience, I greatly prefer watching: Mick Jagger swagger, sprint and dance like his back has no bone; Bruce Springsteen rev up the audience into the kind of frenzy that makes rafters shake; Bono display his natural, practically fire-breathing intensity; and Roger Daltrey stomp around ferociously as his hands make his microphone dance in the air. The rest on my list are: #2. Rage Against the Machine (noise above all else); #3. Marilyn Manson (more noise above all else); #4. Muse (blah on top of blah); #5. Nine Inch Nails (so cold); #6. Motley Crue (ask Alan Rosenberg); #7. The Smiths (Johnny Marr can’t make up for the huge annoyance that is Morrissey); #8. Frank Zappa (makes me miss melodies that move me and songs that I can “pretend to” harmonize with); #9. Bon Jovi (ask Alan Rosenberg, again); #10. Billy Joel (yes, his songs are incredibly overplayed. But, even if they weren’t I still would be bothered by the majority of them.)
Thanks as always - wow we are so in agreement. I bought two "classic" Rage albums and your description is so spot on for me as well - noisy and not appealing to me at all - I dumped those albums - though I gotta say Morello is off the chart as a guitarist - his brief stint with the E Street band took them to a level that was unimaginable. Marilyn Manson - totally agree. Nothing against the look but he should've checked out the original Alice Cooper - you need the songs. I never enjoyed The Smiths also. And Frank Zappa - well I have a bunch of his albums. Maybe one day I'll do a video on him. I think he purposely tries to be so complicated, and sophomoric and so "Zappa" so he stands out from the crowd and creates this incredible reputation. Yea he can read and notate music and purposely create on paper incredibly complicated music that only the best musicians can possibly play. But creation for creation is just...creation. In my opinion, it's actually harder to create a memorable melody that sticks in the head and is a truly memorable song. And over...what 300 albums...lol. Zappa hasn't done that too much. Maybe he's covering a shortcoming???? With that said, on occasion, some of his stuff can be "fun".
I think you’ve got Zappa pegged. “Complicated” and “sophomoric” to “create a reputation” that “makes him stand out from the crowd” is the perfect summation of what he is. “Creation for creation is just… creation!!” That’s one hell of a profound truth. I really, really love that quote.
@@ronalaurence4105 thanks so much. I really do believe that with his music. Notating 1000,000 notes on music, notation paper, and occasionally putting on shocking And sophomoric lyrics does not make one great songwriter. It truly is much harder to come up with a three minute pop song with a great hook that has genuine feeling and emotion. Some thing that I don’t think Zappa is ever been able to achieve.
You nailed it when assessing Zappa. Your points are well thought out and impactfully written. He was a devoted student of what I call the “academics of music.” He was driven to create music so complex that much of it could be performed by only the most skilled musicians. His general state of smugness led him to try and shock listeners by juxtaposing his sophisticated compositions with songs from which he derived titles such as “Titties and Beer,” “Stick It Out,” “Don’t Eat The Yellow Snow,” etc. I love a good laugh, and I am not easily offended. Some songs strive for nothing more than to just be fun. And I think the world needs those, unless they’re just too ridiculous to have real value. That, of course, is subjective. What is a fact, though, is that Frank Zapoa’s legacy of music does not include a three-minute song that makes you stop what you’re doing, gasp for breath and say to yourself, “This song will stay in my heart and mind forever.” Because, as you wrote, Alan, those kinds of songs are the hardest to create. John Lennon and Paul McCartney did not need to know how to read music or notate to write “The Long and Winding Road” and so many others that have stood the test of time and have genuinely made fans weep by the emotions that they release.
@@ronalaurence3075 As always you are poetry in motion. You totally captured my feeling regarding Zappa overall. For me, being able to notate and write down on manuscript as many notes as you want in weird places and time signatures so only the best players could even attempt to play it doesn't make you a great songwriter - creation for creation's sake doesn't create memorable songs that create emotional response. It could create an audience reaction of "wow those musicians are incredible - they sure can play tricky stuff". But in some ways that can be musical masturbation. Fun at the time maybe, but not memorable....Thanks as always.
I don't hate the artists mentioned, I just don't think they are as great as the rest of the world thinks. I don't have any of the artists' CDs because I don't think their music is great, merely pedestrian. Radio stations play the same set of songs as if the artist only wrote 2-5 songs and nothing else. Once in a great while you may hear a deep cut song, but it's rare. I usually listen to college radio since they play new artists. At least you get more variety of songs. That doesn't mean all the new songs are great, but at least you hear so many different songs, you don't have to worry about hearing the same songs over and over again.
Interesting about Billy Joel and Queen, legacy artists. I grew up in Westchester so Billy was big and Bohemian Rhapsody blew me away when I was a kid. I thought that was the coolest song ever better than Sgt Pepper. Both were among the first lps I ever purchased in the 70's. Recently I p/u Joel's 70's lps which I still enjoy for the deep cuts, Streetlife, Glass Houses, Songs in the Attic, 52nd st., Turnstiles are my favorites. I also like that doowop album. After that, most of his lps had a few good cuts but too much filler or just odd dissonant songs for some reason like he tried too hard, or to branch out or experiment and it didn't really work for me.
Thanks so much - funny you said that because An Innocent Man is a Billy Joel album I still really enjoy. Even those hits like Uptown Girl still sound good - yea that album holds up extremely well. Streetlife Serenade and Turnstiles I agree have some great moments. And yes Songs In The Attic was a great idea, putting out modern live versions of those overlooked songs at the time. Fine live album. Thanks so much.
Hey buddy I love this video I'm an avid musicfreak I like how you go into depth about the bands and albums. I feel that you are kinda like me you just have artist that you don't particularly love or like Enjoyed this a lot keep up the great work
I agree with all 10. despite liking all sorts of obscurer bands and artists there are many well known acts that I just don't get rather than hate, so like you I occasionally get a compilation if I think they are worthy for the sake of the collection. You could probably list your top 20 artists (hint hint) and I would have some dislike for some of them...
Oh yea - absolutely - all personal taste. And really these lists are just for the fun of it. There are people who think Dave Matthews is the greatest thing - he just got in to the RRHOF. It's all music in the end.
Good morning Alan Rosenberg, well I deviated from a channel and ended up here on the “All in good Fun” top 10 hated and had a good time listening. Do I agree? No but we are talking personal tastes here so I respect your opinion… Kinda… Thank for an entertaining 27:58, you got yourself a Sub 😎✌🏼🎶
@@TheVinylLoungeMtl Thanks so much. I really appreciate it. And thanks for taking the video in the spirit it deserves. For fun. There’s so much to discover on my channel so I hope you continue to enjoy it. Very best. Alan
Alan, you've got me laughing out loud on this one! Hilarious! I am imagining the news clip--"Car smashes into bridge embankment...opening riff of 'Big Shot" heard streaming from the wreckage"....I often wonder what would make my list, but it probably changes way too frequently. And if I'm not mistaken, hasn't that goofy Queen song "Don't Stop me Now" supplanted "Don't Stop Believing" as most downloaded song ever??? Interesting that a lot of fans and critics now put Queen on the same plateau as Beatles/Stones/LZ,--and I liked them when I was young. In fact, the very first long player I ever bought with my own money was "A Night at the Opera"...I was about 12 and hooked on Bohemian Rhapsody...and I remember plunking down $5.99 at the local K Mart to buy it--and yes, this was before "Made in the Shade" (which, quite frankly, probably rescued me). However, my tastes changed....and now, thanks in large part to Millennials, they are as revered as anyone--I'm sure that goofy movie had a lot to do with that too. And Motley Crew (sic)...has there ever been a bigger group of Poseurs to reach the Big Time than those dudes? I mean, I cannot take anything away from any artist that scored that many hit songs and albums, and loaded arenas to boot--it doesn't just happen, and it's not that easy to do. But they seemed to really get fat (and on the verge of respectable) with those late 80s power ballads/cock rock crap...and they did it just in the nick of time, as months later, that schlock quickly fell out of favor. I mean, that tawdry little book was even expanded into a Netflix bio? And people inhaled that like Snicker bars. And, if I may be so bold, shouldn't any such list feature auto entry for Ed Sheeran? I mean, that dude has, IMHO, ruined every wedding I've been at for that last 10+ years--that mewling, wispy falsetto, those sneakers, the nylon string guitar...those P-whipped sentiments....???? Oh well....great video as always!
So glad I cracked you up - because damn I'm hysterical right now. What a visual, my cracked up car - me unconscious bleeding from the head with Big Shot playing (oh perfect choice - I hate that one!) but a smile on my face because I couldn't take it anymore. Don't Stop Me Now has supplanted Don't Stop Believing - That's from bad to worse - I cannot stand that song - talk about annoying. Maybe it's something with "Don't Stop". Maybe the Fleetwood Mac track is high too. I can bear that one. Now that Crue quote of yours "inhaled like Snicker Bars" that's good. I think marketing helped Crue so much and the big flashy insane show - perfectly covers up the musical inadequacy. Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson helped too I'm sure. I don't have any Ed Sheeran but you're quote on him is incredible - that's got to be use in an advertisement - like reverse advertising or something. I'd buy an album with that tagline just to experience it...lol Thanks so much.
Oh man, as soon as I hit send, I had a flood of better ones for Ed Sheeran that hit me: Has ruined more weddings than “Proud Mary” and “From This Moment”-COMBINED (seriously, how many times do we have to endure the happy couples first dance to Perfect or Thinking Out Loud); Ed Sheeran: Milque Toast, redefined; Ed Sheeran-making Adam Levine look Bad Ass. (Hey, at least he did Moves Like Jagger and gyrated around with Christina Aguilera). But getting back to a more serious point with Queen-I think at their best they were a great singles band-but their albums really were not very good, granted that’s just my opinion, but I quickly came to feel that way after hearing Opera-and subsequent releases. And now, look-they are bigger than ever, and generate more streams and downloads than Stones, LZ, U2, even Beatles-combined! How did it happen???? One more thing to blame on Millennials?
@@anthonyaswe4174 I totally agree - it happened because of exactly what you said - probably 90% of people who say Queen are the greatest band of all time have never owned or listen to a complete Queen album. We live in a Spotify world. They know the 8 or so massive songs that they hear and love to death, so they're the "greatest" band ever. They own and listen to the greatest hits album where they know and love every song. But if you listen to their discography - does the Queen albums compare to the Beatles, Stones, Zep, Who - of course not - it's a joke - but not in todays music world - it's not an albums world to the majority.
No I like both a lot - But I pretty much only like Van Halen with Roth. I have all their albums. The printout of my inventory was pretty much only artists that I have 11 albums or more from. I including a couple with 9 or 8. But I have hundreds of other artists of course in my Catalog - I do have every Police and Van Halen with Roth and I really like them. Classics.
The radio sucks anyway, because it's only interested in money and doesn't give two flying fucks about artistry, quality or integrity, since it's a media form for people who don't really like music.
Hi Alan, I'm chuckling to myself watching your video for ,the ten bands you can't stand. I completely agree regarding Motley crue and Coldplay. I've never liked motley crue and Coldplay ,to me, are just boring.I can't really comment on the rest of your choices, but would agree with your general ethos of overplayed songs. My other half disagrees with the inclusion of Queen on your list, but i kinda see your point. I was interested in your videos, reviewing the" Stones" recent gigs. Like you, i would love to see " out of time" played live and especially " Memory Motel". We've just been to see Hawkwind in Glasgow. They were great. I would recommend their new album, " Stories from time and space". I hope when you see the stones , they play " out of time". Enjoy the gig . Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it. love the channel, Cheers.
Thanks so much - what a great compliment and means so much to me. Hawkwind still going wow - I know they've been doing those big box re-issues. Very cool. I have to eventually dig more into them. I know relatively little of their music - I definitely found it strange back in the day - legends of course though - had Lemmy at one time. Thanks so much..
Can’t agree on Billy Joel-I think he’s the Great American Singwriter, the American Paul McCartney (but sure, not quite as good). Most of the rest I agree with, except I do like Journey, especially “Lights” and “Someday Love Will Find You,” and I at least used to like Dave Matthews.
These lists are fun. As you saw I own and know every Joel album - the reason why I hate him is here on LI he's so damn overplayed, at least like 10 songs that I HATE those songs. So I can't really listen to him anymore - But in no way does that take away from his massive talent and legacy. He's probably the most famous LI'er ever too. Thanks so much.
Very much so. I currently have 49 Elton John albums, so you can say I'm a fan...lol. I've done a couple of videos on him including a nice Elton John haul video from a thrift store that you might enjoy.
Hey Alan; late to the show but catching up on your videos: I still enjoy the first 3 Queen albums, and The Stranger With you 100% on everything else, Foo Fighters - jeepers they’re garbage. Btw - get those other Billy Joel cd’s down to the Charity shop, some mug is bound to pay a few pennies for ‘em
Thanks so much Richard. Really appreciate you watching my channel. I'm still missing Queen 2 out of the "classic" Queen albums. I'll have to get just to complete that part of the Queen collection, plus so many are saying that it is their favorite. I'll get it eventually. Queen are a work in progress for me. Actually picked up a live album Live Magic a couple of months ago and kind of liked it. True, no shortage of used Billy Joel in the local record stores or flea markets lol. thanks again.
Bands that should have disbanded in 1980, Aerosmith, Queen, Heart, Pink Floyd and to a lesser extent Genesis.( kudos to them for the prog to pop transformation).
An interesting topic for sure. And I can agree to an extent. Not a fan of The Final Cut. I love the original Heart band, and although they had some great success post, none of it appeals to me like the original band thru Dog And Butterfly or even Bebe Le Strange up to a point. Genesis - well pre-1980 is at the top of my all time favorite band - part of my musical DNA really but post Duke - doesn't do much for me, yet like you said kudos for all their massive success from their change of sound.
I can definitely imagine why some are allergic to Queen, but I've never tired of 'now I'm here' in particular, does rock get any better than that song? regards
Thanks Patrick. I just bought another Queen album - Live Magic. I've got quite the Queen collection now. I'm really trying. I've bought and listened to every classic Queen album (except for Queen II) at least 6 times each. It's all in my Queen playlist series where I review each album - song by song. I'll see how Live Magic is.
You cant start listening to a band like Queen for the first time in your middle/old age - music is something you connect with in your youth - a moment in time - it is when your mind and emotions are like a sponge - and you connect with that sound - reasons why bands like Rush have a following I would think - what I find more interesting is music I loved in my 20's and 30s and cannot listen to now in my 60s (maybe do a video on this topic) - for EG INXS - Crowded House - etc - love your channel keep rocking !!!!!! I agree with your list 100% - except for Queen - 2 albums - Night at the Opera and Sheer Heart Attack - don't bother with Queen 2
Totally agree with you - except I was 13 and 14 when those albums first came out, my friends loved them and I heard them then. And the big hits got played then too. Queen just never did it for me, not even when they first came out. I tried to give them a shot in this series, decades later....didn't work...lol
I've heard others say that about Journey's first three albums - clearly coming from Santana - they had to be talented. I'll be on the lookout . Other's have said that about Queen II as well. I'll pick it up, if nothing more than for completion purposes. Just picked up Queen Live Magic - will see how that is.
Thanks again- think got this twice - I just found Coldplay bland and uninspiring to me. Wasn't awful but the two albums I bought were definitely not worth me keeping.
My reaction to hearing Dave Matthews is the same as when Jazz was played in the bar in Ricky Bobby and their reaction to Jazz. I was offered a free ticket to Dave Matthews 25 years and went to the concert. Im not joking when I say that at one point I was so aggravated by the herky jerky music that I honestly felt like it was a form of evil mind control
Thanks so much. Some great choices there. I love The Clash, but hey all personal taste. Springsteen shows up on these lists - he can be hit or miss, even for a fan like me. The Police a bit surprising. GnR I can see. Later Aerosmith, especially for an early Aerosmith fan - great choice. Later day Phil Collins - love that, because you're also saying his early stuff was really good, and it was - very cool of you. Poison definitely, but I would never even buy an album of theirs so I didn't include it like many other hair bands. later Bryan Adams is like the Collins comment - very cool of you because that early Bryan Adams was the real deal. Later AC/DC - totally agree. Great list - thanks so much - love it.
Thanks so much - go to my playlists section - there's tons of videos - all time favorite albums, favorite live albums, debut albums. Also there's playlists on my favorite albums by my favorite bands - lots to see. I hope you enjoy. Thanks again.
I like most of the artists on this list, especially Queen, Journey, Bon Jovi, and Billy Joel since they are some of my favorites. I listened to the Rush album Moving Pictures before and like it. Coldplay I also like, I've listened to their first three albums all the way through and like them. Toto did great opening for Journey when I saw them, I also listened to all their albums at least once. Foo Fighters, I like and have listened to their first three albums all the way through, but in my opinion, you can't have them without Nirvana. The artist I least care for on this list is Motley Crue, Vince Neil accidentally killed someone when driving drunk, and I don't know for sure if he did learn from that or not. But I know some songs from the band and like them fine. Not sure if I want to listen to a whole lot of albums besides Dr. Feelgood if I check them out. I don't know any songs from Dave Matthews Band, but I am planning to possibly give them a try someday.
Music is all personal and what counts is how it effects us personally. There is no right or wrong with music - that's partly what makes it so great. So I'm happy that you really like or love these artists. For me...not so much.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow I know, I heard you say it in the video. Soon, I’m going to check out the video for the top 10 artists you love. I don’t really have a top 10 hated artists list, but I have a top 10 loved artists list which includes my top 10 favorite music artists.
@@ceilingfansclocksminecraft1226 I have a ton of "favorite" videos. Favorite albums of all time, double albums, two on favorite live albums, favorite artists, favorite songs, favorite guitar solos. Plenty to dig into and I hope you enjoy them.
My ten 1 U2 2 GREATFUL DEAD 3 DAVE MATHEWS BAND 4 NIRVANA 5 PINK FLOYD 6 MICHEAL JACKSON 7 TAYLOR SWIFT 8 MARYLIN MANSON 9 BON JOVI 10 BRUCE SPRINGSTEIN
Thanks for your list Stephen. Interesting for sure. Of course, I'm a big fan of U2 and Bruce Springsteen (though I don't love all of their stuff). But music is so personal. Thanks so much again. I'm with you on some of them for sure.
As a lifelong Rush fan, I can somewhat empathize with the haters. However, the Professor Neil Peart was a very talented and influential drummer who may have influenced many of your favorite drummers along the way - tens of thousands of them to be exact - from many different genres. He was a very complex drummer and likewise a great lyricist. And it somewhat sickens me to hear when the Rush haters actually threw a party with utter gladness when Peart lost his battle with brain cancer. I've met some here at YT, and I regret ever interacting with them. How bad do you have to hate a band so much to the point where you jump up with glee and throw a little celebration of arrogance when the glue guy of the band (who was pretty much the backbone of Rush) succumbs to cancer? If only you knew the hell the guy went through before he was diagnosed with cancer. He lost his first wife (to cancer) and oldest daughter (at age 19 in a car accident.) I know that doesn't mean one single thing to the haters and I'll never change the minds of most of them, but I just thought I'd point that out anyhow. Not only that, Rush had the same three members for 4 decades. Try finding one rock or metal band that had that type of longevity. You won't find one, except for maybe ZZ Top or U2. Peart wasn't an original member, but he was a much better drummer than his predecessor. And their instrumentals were epic, especially the 9 minute "La Villa Strangiato" from 1978's Hemispheres. They had talent, believe it or not, and their legacy is cemented in the Rock Hall.
As a drummer, Pearts drum skills are beyond dispute - he was an incredible drummer. Also had the biggest kit I ever saw. The fact that anyone would celebrate his death from cancer or any other illness, plus the immeasurable tragedy he had in his life is beyond disgusting. Almost hard to believe, but if it's true, they're barely human.
You are totally correct - Dave Matthews was and is huge here and shit, they just got into the RRHOF - so clearly I'm in the minority, but I really can't listen to them. But music is all personal. They're not for me.
Hi Alan good video and actually a good topic . I grew up in Philly and the back in the day the FM radio overplayed so many of these artists over and over. That today we don’t feel like hearing certain ones anymore. So I imagine Long Island was the same way too . I couldn’t stand Geddy Lees voice for years . But actually when Rush came back from a long hiatus I really enjoyed them in concert. I’ve seen the Stones probably 24-25 times big fan too . The Voodoo Lounge concerts at old Giants Stadium in the rain 🌧️ were cool I was there for both . It rained in Philadelphia too lol 🤣 brings back memories 😊
Thanks so much. Looks like it might rain Thursday night at Metlife (though I'm going Sunday). The Stones and Giants Stadium (well Metlife stadium now).
Thanks - well you're not alone. I do appreciate that Rush was never afraid to change styles and experiment. I'm still not a big fan but that's a wonderful attribute.
I can relate to your “hate”. Sometimes the repetition of hearing the same songs makes you want to never hear them again. I still like early Rush and Motley Crue. Agree totally on the others. Great fun.
Thanks so much. Yea - the unending repetition of these same songs on the radio over and over does it for me....and some others...but seemingly not to the general public....I don't get it.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Dave Mathews toured South Africa last year and my trendy friend was raving about how amazing he was ... and I was like... I dont know a single song and I dont care
Great show and I agree with almost evrything, specially Queen!! When at the beginning of the video I saw a vinyl of The Rolling Stones I thought it would be be one of your hated bands. I'm glad it is not!!!
Thanks so much. Sorry to scare you with that one. The Rolling Stones, as you probably know from my channel are by far my all time favorite band. I own and love over 400 Rolling Stones albums - there's a whole playlist on them. I showed No Security because Dave Matthews is on it, and it's the only "Dave Matthews" I have. Thanks so much.
HI Alan -I pretty much agree 100% with your top ten list. Dave Matthews Band - I've never been able to get into them, I've tried but 100% failure so far. Cya Doug
Yea - I've tried. It might partially be his voice with me too. - like I literally have to turn them off when I hear them....Not for me...or you...and apparently many others too.
The proper term should be " overexposed " which means an artist how gotten way too much attention than they deserve. .Also instead of hate , you just grown weary of a certain artist.
@@davidk2906 yes. Actually very true with some of them. Like Billy Joel for instance but I think I explained that in the video. Some though I really dislike. But true. Some I don’t hate just sick of, overexposed or I feel are tremendously overrated. Thanks
I have a hard time believing that listening to Queen II is going to win you over. It's got a lot of the same things on it that Queen detractors dislike and what you already mentioned.

Sorry, I know I took some space a couple comments back, but simply would like to give recognition to a piano player that has gotten little attention and is an awesome boogie woogie artist (and very much a Billy Joel alternative to say the least!!). KEN SAYDAK is his name and man can he roll those fingers!! He has a limited discography (about 5 albums, possibly only 2 still in print). The songs "Clo Clo Boogie" and "Mother Earth" are definate go to's. His latest appearance is with the Rockwell Avenue Blues Band on their album "Back to Chicago". I believe Delmark is the recording label. Thanks Alan. 🎉🎉🎉
@@TheAlanRosenbergShowYeah, Ken turns 73 this year and has been in the music "biz" for over 50 years. He's worked with various blues artists including Johnny Winter. "Mother Earth" is from the album "Foolish Man", "Clo Clo Boogie' and "Illinois" are from" Love Without Trust". I seem to be getting into more music in the blues genre lately. Shemekia Copeland is awesome well as. Her album "Turn the Heat Up" is HOT; pun intended! Have a great day Alan! - - You must be getting excited as the Stones concert is right around the corner. I hope you and your family have a wonderful time. @@andee7255 thanks so much as always. Trying not to think about it so I won’t be disappointed lol. Hoping they bring back Out Of Time. But I know they won’t be playing Dear Doctor or Salt of the Earth. I sure would love that though.
Alan, I can’t even name a single Coldplay song? In fact, the first time I ever heard of them was a TV commercial for one of their CD’s. I remember thinking the band name sounded so dull, lifeless, and unimaginative. Yes, I also agree with you about Dave Grohl “the friend to all Rock-stars”
Alan, you make a mistake many folk do: you blame the artist for dull, uninspired radio overplaying songs until you're sick of them. Billy Joel, Journey And Bon Jovi are not at fault for miserable corporate radio's misdeeds. Yes, Journey and BJ are formulaic, now. But they were cutting edge at an early point in their careers and occasionally still bring it. I'm a big fan of Rush, Journey, Queen and Billy J. I worked in radio when jocks controlled most of the playlist and I moved into news and sports when that was no longer true. Radio is beyond horrible now, totally unlistenable as far as I'm concerned. I don't listen to terrestrial radio, only Sirius XM, so I never have a problem hearing ads and overplayed corporate crap. I urge you to place blame where it really belongs. Appreciate your show as always.
Thanks so much - point very well taken, but......it's definitely not the bands fault - that's totally true. But.....for whatever the reason, in this case LI radio constantly playing the same Billy Joel songs to the point, I instantly have to shut off the station when the song is on, its now because I truly can't stand the song. Not the artists fault, but in the end I truly can't stand the song(s) so I no longer like the artist, at least to a certain extent. There are songs that are equally overplayed, that I don't hate, but don't need to ever hear, like certain Tom Petty songs (Free Falling) or Satisfaction from the Stones. And there are totally overplayed songs that I still love to hear - totally timeless like Stairway To Heaven. So what you're saying is valid....yet what I'm saying is equally valid I think. Cool that you work in radio. Gotta say - I don't know how terrestrial DJ's do their job. I'd kill myself in the studio having to listen to those same damn songs and act excited about it. I don't know how they possibly can do it. And I imagine, at least some of them, are true music fans - must drive them nuts. Best, Alan
CCR - that's an interesting one - many you mentioned I've never bought an album by, so wouldn't qualify for me...but there's a reason why I never bought their album..lol
I own all the Billy Joel, Queen, Rush and Foo Fighters albums. Have about 90% of Journey and Toto's albums. Only own Crash by Dave Mathews Band, and have the first five Bon Jovi albums I think. Anyway, can't argue with your list, though the Foo Fighters hurts a little, lol. I honestly kinda feel the same about Queen, everyone is always praising them and I am thinking there is like 3 maybe 4 good songs per album, in my very humble opinion. Also your location comes into play, I was born in the mid 80s, in the Midwest so Billy Joel and others weren't on the radio as much as like you mention in Long Island. Good list, I do like about half your list quite a bit but if we all liked the same thing the world would be pretty dull!
This is a fantastic comment Mike. And I really appreciate it. Because one its all music (with a quality there) and we all have our own ears and love what we love. These artists, love them or hate them, are all quality and the real deal, in their own way. I love what you wrote about Queen especially - because....man did I try.....really did. And nice that you kind of said what I felt. Queen's greatist hits album I can see - chock full of those classics we hear over and over again, and I know, in my heart, that the majority of these so call fans who vote them as greatest are judging them on that...alone. I would LOVE Billy Joel, if he was fairly unknown, didn't get so much play and was therefore not so overplayed....but that's because of where I live. Thanks so much again!
Billy Joel got a lot of airplay in Cleveland, Columbus and St. Louis back in the 70s. Those very same AOR radio stations refused to play most of the tracks from Joel's 1983 blockbuster Adult Standards LP An Innocent Man. Only played "Matter Of Trust" the most from The Bridge. Storm Front got Joel's music back on Album Rock stations with We Didn't Start The Fire, I Go To Extremes, That's Not Her Style, Shameless and The Downeaster Alexa.
@@davej.meister5421 Even here on LI, The Bridge was not on the same level as previous albums....perhaps why I find it more listenable than some of the big classics of his.
Rush was a band in a class of its own. Loads of talent and tens of millions of records sold. Everyone hates Rush because of Lee's voice, but they often overlook the rhythm section (Lifeson and Peart), their longevity as a band (same 3 members for 41 years) and the tightness they had as musicians. And here's the one thing that burns me blue about the Rush haters. Pumping fists and high fiving in poor taste when the Professor Neil Peart loses his bout with brain cancer in 2020. Just plain sad, and the man experience a lot of turmoil in his life before the diagnosis, such as losing his first wife of 23 years to cancer, and before that his oldest daughter in a car accident. And a lot of these Rush haters are either with the KISS Army or they're with the hair metal zombies - two of the most insufferable and arrogant fan bases I've ever seen in my life. Rush toured with KISS in the mid 70s and had several heavy metal or hair metal bands open up for them in the 80s. You may not like Lee's voice or Rush's music, but they're a band who has always had respect for other rock or metal bands. And they were always open to having glam metal bands open up for them. Three guys who have always been polite and respectful. I get the hate for Lee and Rush's style of music, but not for their personalities or humility. KISS Army members will always feel resentment toward Rush because they got in the Rock Hall before KISS did. At least I can say no one from Rush had the cocky and brash attitude that Gene and even Paul has displayed for many years now. Even Ace respects Rush more than he does his former band members. And there's a good reason for that. Rush earned respect from their rock and metal peers.
@@davej.meister5421 I've never even heard of these personality conflicts. Always seemed to me that the three members of Rush (after the first album of course), always seemed nice and relatively down to earth. I never saw them act like "obnoxious rock stars". And the tragedy in Peart's life is beyond belief. Who would celebrate that? That's beyond sick. I know he used to ride his bike cross country on their tours and wrote books about it. That's about as down to earth as you can get. My dislike of Rush is really due to Geddy's voice and I do think, in my taste, they're music is overrated compared to other legendary prog bands - notably classic Yes. I thought it was wrong that Rush got in before Yes. But that's just me. Rush's fan base and dedicated fans is far beyond most other prog bands...most other bands in general.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShowwho cares about the rock and roll hall of fame. It’s bullshit. Yes and Rush are both great bands. I prefer Rush but it’s just another opinion
@@irena7777777 I care about the R&R HofF because of what it could have been, and what I would've like to have seen it be. But it is pretty much a popular music hall of fame now, and means almost nothing to me. But it's still fun to talk about when they do the inductions.
I listened to 20 minutes of one of the current "Hits" stations; oh man I had to turn it OFF! Talk about formula music. Yikes. Sorry Alan but Billy Joel is sounding pretty good right now. Good call Joe!

Music is all subjective, it's all about opinions and tastes. With that being said, I agree with almost everything that you said in this entire video with exception of one "opinion" that you gave and that was saying that "Rush were not in the same league as Yes"; as someone who is a HUGE fan of both bands, Rush was in their OWN league as was Yes.
@@markstoudenmire4935 Fair enough. I think I have a bit of a chip on my shoulders because Rush became so huge and Yes dwindled away. And for me in their heydays Yes was so superior. Rush got into the hall of fame way before yes etc. but even amongst my friends they preferred Rush. So as you so we’ll said it’s all opinion. But im oftentimes in the minority when it comes to Rush.
@TheAlanRosenbergShow Well understood. As I said, I'm a huge fan of both bands. I was introduced to Yes by my prog fan cousin probably around '73 and was introduced to Rush by my older sister around '75 and both have been favorites ever since. There's no need to question the overall talents of Yes and the absolute phenomenal music output throughout their career. In fact, along with the Yes album and Fragile, Drama is one of my favorite Yes albums if not a top 10 for me across the board. For me, Drama in 1980 and Moving Pictures in 1981 was musical heaven for me.
@@markstoudenmire4935 I remember so well when Moving Pictures came out and what a monster hit it was on radio and sales. Even painted on the back of denim jackets. My friends LOVED it. I bought it and "liked it". Then much much later when I traded in my Rush albums it was gone. I just never listen to them. But sure it really is great prog music, incredible musicians etc. I also liked Drama though I remember how surprising people were at Madison Square Garden to see Yes expecting Jon Anderson and getting the new Yes lineup. Strange times - but really excellent later day Yes album. Going For The One is also a personal favorite of mine but I wasn't much of a fan of Tormato.
Cool channel. Enjoy the content! Couldn’t disagree more on the Foo Fighters, Rush and the Crue. The FF ‘s have a ton of great, high energy tunes and are great live! Also have some outstanding slower style songs. Their overall discography is very good. I was never a Nirvana fan so I’m happy that Grohl was able to breakaway and create the FF ‘s👍 Based on the “time and place” theory of why we love some bands, for me is Rush. I’m a late 70’s, 80’s kids who loved the drums so when Moving Pictures came out I was blown away by the drums/music. The rest is history…been a fan ever since. For Motley Crue, again it was all about the timing. I lived through (and had a great time 🤘😁) the 80’s hair metal scene and for short period time played in band similar to Skid Row. So at that time MC was the biggest band around, wrote killer hard rock tunes and the arena tailgating parties were something to behold!! Best period of my life and the Crue made it even better. 👍
I totally agree with time and place theory...what a great way to phrase it too. Because it's so true. I never got into the "hair metal" phase, so didn't interest me, but if I had, it had to be an incredible time to grow up, party, girls, etc. Guns n' Roses came at the end of that as well. So I totally understand. I say that some music is now in my DNA - and that what I mean. This music is part of your DNA and I totally respect and get that. That's what music should do to us. Individually, Individual taste and experiences. So powerful and so valid. Thanks.
Each to their own, but I have to disagree on Rush. They are by far my no 1 band. I grew up with them from the 70's. As for Yes I have tried but no just mind killing awfulness, and Anderson's voice its as high pitched as Geddy's If you don't like one how can you like the other.
@@1oriss I grew up with Rush too. Was there when they were first really breaking. But I grew up when I was young with Yes. For me doesn’t get much better than the Yes album, Fragile, Close to the Edge and Yessongs. What a run. True Anderson and Lee are acquired tastes.
Yeah each person's taste is their own and valid. Millions love Micheal Jackson and Adel I would rather walk over broken glass than listen to that, but it's their choice and valid.
Talking about Billy Joel..... I just came across this and to be honest I am kinda baffled by what he's trying to do here - especially those dance moves are a bit cringy 😄 ruclips.net/video/6HJ4HGdvhsc/видео.html
Hating a band is a bit of an unintentional compliment. Good bands are either liked or disliked. Mediocre music is boring and just plain bad music can actually be funny, but if you have strong negative feelings to a band then it means they at least came up with something distinctive even if it's not to your taste. Mediocrity can't be "hated", mediocrity means having no distinguishing features. JS Bach is considered by many to be the greatest musical figure of all time, yet for some his music is just too busy and aloof sounding. So some people might say they hate Bach. Even the term Baroque used to describe his style literally translates as "mis-shapen pearl" So he was actually disliked by the critics of his time.
That is an interesting point. True hated is a strong word. And you're totally correct - it has to make an impact to get to that level. Which is also why my video shows only "big" bands who made it big. Yes they did make an impact for sure. Well said - and thank you.
Don’t hate these. Just don’t particularly like them Pink Floyd, Yes, Chicago, ELP, Bon Jovi, Survivor, Lincoln Park, Incubus, Limp Biscuit, …. And Grateful Dead & Dave Matthew’s They all have songs I can endure, ( Except DM Band ) …..
I don't even know the music of Limp Biscuit, Incubus, Lincoln Park. Never looked into them. I can't get passed that Survivor Rocky song - ugh. ELP's not an easy listen but I do love those Greg Lake ballads - C'est La Vie, Take A Pebble, From The Beginning, Lucky Man etc.
I would make Guns and Roses a runner up too, I have Appetite on cd, and has a few good songs on it, but I don't see myself listening to it ever again. Same goes for those 80s hair metal bands, Quiet Riot, Ratt, Skid Row, Cinderella, Poison, etc. I do have a soft spot for Def Leppard, I have some studio albums and a few comps by them.

I've been trying to get into Rush a bit more but it feels like such a slog. I've tried all the 70s records and the early 80s ones, and it just hasn't clicked. I've never had that "Eureka" moment that I felt with Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, Gentle Giant or Jethro Tull. But all of those bands took a few listens to grow on me tho. So I hold out hope that one day I'll hear past Geddy Lee's irritating shrieks and the kinda annoying production and realize that those guys are geniuses. Maybe I'll go try 2112 again (sigh)...
lol - I can so relate. Gotta say Gentle Giant is a tough listen - I like them but not easy and I still have a bunch of their albums in my backlog. Also Rush is always on the radio, so I've no need to ever listen to them, because they're on and I can easily turn them off...lol. On the off chance, if you've never heard Nektar Remember The Future - that's one of my all time favorite prog albums. Best, Alan
Rush is an amazing band and can do it live not just in the studio. 19 studio albums, from heavy blues oriented rock to epic prog concept albums to fm radio rock anthems to progressive synth to fusion and that's just the first 16 years of a 40 year run. I actually agree with most of his picks, but not rush. 3 of the most talented, proficient and creative musicians to ever do it.
A few bands I hate are the boomtown rats, genesis, queens of the Stone Age, Boston, Bon jovi, Kansas I don’t “hate” the Rolling Stones. But they are just not my cup of tea. The albums sometimes seem patchy to me. Especially in the 60s

I thought Coldplay’s first two albums were excellent. I have too long of a theory to write it here about why they fell apart so much. They are just chasing the dollar.
I'm really not qualified to discuss the history of Coldplay. I think initially I felt like they were sort of a lightweight U2. I actually bought two of their albums and it's not that they were horrible - just nothing that I felt truly appealed to me - just didn't grab me. They got bigger and bigger - amongst biggest bands in the world - selling out stadiums etc and from what I've seen and heard - still didn't do anything for me. Not bad, not awful, just for me nothing with nothing. But I'm clearly in the minority as they're still amongst the biggest bands in the world. Fair enough, we love what we love. Thanks.

I have much respect for them, even if they're not really my thing, largely because of Geddy's voice. Though the fact that they got into the rock hall of fame before Yes really annoys me...lol.
I totally understand. Foo Fighters one of the biggest bands in the world. As for Rush at one point I owned most of the early classic albums and I grew up with them. My friends were huge fans and of course they get played on the radio a lot. They just don't do much for me anymore....Geddy's voice never grew on me as well. Thanks so much.
The worst part of teaching guitar in the 90s for me was when students wanted to learn songs by The Dave Matthews Band ...
@@grguitaracademy5144 that’s so funny. Can honestly say I’ve never heard that before. Lol. Oh the pain of being a guitar teacher. Thanks for sharing
I'm in my 60's, and I like prog. But I never got Rush. I no longer have any of their albums, I've tried, but I don't get it. But after Rush you mention Journey, and those I don't even want to try.
We are totally in agreement again. And yes, I dislike Journey even more than Rush. Journey is barely on my radar. Best, Alan

Thanks so much - gonna let my sister know. I actually have some great ideas for a logo for my channel - would be great if I could do it one day. I'll work on it.
Sorry man but if you’re a huge fan of U2 but you have no time for Rush or Queen I’m out.
well I bought all those Queen albums and listened to every one at least 5 times each.
Thanks so much. I get that. Many have said to me how do you love that classic Yes and not like Rush. Happy Holidays to you and your family. Best, alan
Dude you crack me up ,but I must admit - I am with you so far on your first 4 :0

@@cliffhass9158 lol. You definitely have a point. I shall hide myself in a corner in shame.
Damn. Dave Matthews has really been getting slapped around in these videos. But I'm honestly fine with that.
Has he? Interesting - nice to know I'm not alone - he just made the Hall of Fame too. Funny. Thanks.
Thanks so much - big smile to me because I have felt lonely often about that too.
Not all bands/artists is everyone’s cup of tea. To each their own.
Absolutely true - that's the beauty of music. It speaks to us individually and no right or wrong. It's all personal.
Thanks so much. Really appreciate your support. So glad I’m not alone in those feelings. You never know. Thanks so much again. Big smile to my face.
This is a bold list…hahaha. Had to comment and THANK YOU for your #1 on this list! I do not get the appeal there either - that dude sounds like Kermit the Frog. I grew up on LI too and detest Billy Joel, so I guess I’ve always been a rebel 😂
@@IngaNoniFayJeth thanks so much.
Absolutely agree with you, Alan! These are all great bands and performers, but they're just missing something for me. I can't put my finger on it, they just don't click with me.
Thanks so much Darren.
Thanks for the mention. Hating some bands is fun! 😊
Hey - you discovered my little channel. I've been a fan of yours for a long time. Thanks so much!!!
Very true Noah. Luckily my cars are so old I normally play CD's.
Some of these are some of my favourite bands while Coldplay, BJ and MC definitely are not lol. Enjoyed this! 👍

Oh man, as soon as I hit send, I had a flood of better ones for Ed Sheeran that hit me: Has ruined more weddings than “Proud Mary” and “From This Moment”-COMBINED (seriously, how many times do we have to endure the happy couples first dance to Perfect or Thinking Out Loud); Ed Sheeran: Milque Toast, redefined;
Ed Sheeran-making Adam Levine look Bad Ass.
Alan are Van Halen and The Police other bands that you can’t stand? Because I didn’t see them in your inventory. Cheers mate

I have to change the channel for Under Pressure, good song but I've heard it way too many times.
Yes - overplayed, but I can still deal listening to it and enjoying it - mostly thanks to Bowie though.
Do u like elton john?
Very much so. I currently have 49 Elton John albums, so you can say I'm a fan...lol. I've done a couple of videos on him including a nice Elton John haul video from a thrift store that you might enjoy.
ps: Queen were a great live band. Their studio stuff, aside from their first four albums, is patchy.
Thanks. I agree - they were an excellent live band. And yes I've found their albums to be patchy. Thanks again.
Hey Alan; late to the show but catching up on your videos:
I still enjoy the first 3 Queen albums, and The Stranger
With you 100% on everything else, Foo Fighters - jeepers they’re garbage.
Try Journey's first three albums.....you may like them.
I am also one who says you need to listen to Queen II
I've heard others say that about Journey's first three albums - clearly coming from Santana - they had to be talented. I'll be on the lookout . Other's have said that about Queen II as well. I'll pick it up, if nothing more than for completion purposes. Just picked up Queen Live Magic - will see how that is.
I do not blame anyone who dislikes Coldplay from albums like Mylo Xyloto and Music of The Spheres.

Great list. I do like some Rush deep cuts from their 80's albums.

One reason why I love Yoko Ono is that she refuses to get popular.
She's certainly original and uncommercial.
Alan, I can’t even name a single Coldplay song? In fact, the first time I ever heard of them was a TV commercial for one of their CD’s. I remember thinking the band name sounded so dull, lifeless, and unimaginative.
Yes, I also agree with you about Dave Grohl “the friend to all Rock-stars”
thanks so much.
Best, Alan
If you ate meat loaf every day for 20 years, you'd never want to eat meat loaf ever again either.
well that's true, but my musical tastes are wide with lots of variety as shown in my channel.

Totally agree about Rush and Geddy Lee’s voice. Great musicians, but holistically not really there.
Thanks - yes very much an acquired taste that I've never acquired.

In fact, along with the Yes album and Fragile, Drama is one of my favorite Yes albums if not a top 10 for me across the board. Couldn’t disagree more on the Foo Fighters, Rush and the Crue. The FF ‘s have a ton of great, high energy tunes and are great live! Also have some outstanding slower style songs. Their overall discography is very good. I was never a Nirvana fan so I’m happy that Grohl was able to breakaway and create the FF ‘s👍
Based on the “time and place” theory of why we love some bands, for me is Rush.
Thanks.
Great choices!!

Each to their own, but I have to disagree on Rush. They are by far my no 1 band. I grew up with them from the 70's. As for Yes I have tried but no just mind killing awfulness, and Anderson's voice its as high pitched as Geddy's If you don't like one how can you like the other.

I'm really not qualified to discuss the history of Coldplay. I think initially I felt like they were sort of a lightweight U2. Dear Alan, thank ya so kindly for yar answer. I'm sorry, I never ever want to disturb ya! And sometimes I forget that yar livin in a different time-zone. May I say something more 'bout "the animal" Mr. ERIC BURDON? 1st I KNOW you got an animal 'cause heard him/she barking from the off... LOL! But seriously - what I meant was not the old original Animals. I was talking 'bout Eric AFTER tha split of the original old Animals. IF you have time, the right mood and yar interested in, take some listening to those albums from Eric and the New Animals and his great awesome solo works. "winds of change", "the twain shall meet", "every one of us", "love is" (ALL under the name ERIC BURDON & THE NEW ANIMALS). "sun secrets", "stop", "comeback" (under the name THE ERIC BURDON BAND), "darkness darkness", "survivor", "the last drive", "my secret life", "soul of a man"/dedicated to NOLA, after the big hurricane, "untill yar river runs dry" (under the name ERIC BURDON) & the sucsessful albums with the band WAR/had a number 1 or 2 in the US-charts with tha song "spill the wine". Albums with WAR are "eric burdon declares war", "the black man's burdon" & "love is all around"/they did a coverversion of "paint it black", very special and unique. And two albums he did later with the original members from the Animals, called "before we we're so rudely interrupted"/1977?! & the awesome album "ark"/1983/with the hit "the night", both under the name THE ANIMALS. -- Puhhh...! Lot of stuff! By the way, if you don't have time, mood or interest just may take a listen to the song "year of the guru" from the album "everyone of us"/1968. For me, it's a/the fountain of Rap (I hate Rap, but this is a fountain and awesome from 1968!)!!! --- OMGOSH...! If I disturbed you, I'm very sorry! If not, would be a pleasure to hear something from you. And YOU know, is all always a question of personal taste! So kindly regards, health, joy & happiness to you and your beloved! Thanx for your work. IF I disturbed you, see it like you inspired me. Praises from Aaron
Aaron - you're not disturbing me, though I just woke up and first thing answering the comments..lol. Actually you're teaching me, because I had no idea Burden had such a large discography since the Animals. Yea I know the War big hits - I have a 2 CD best of War collection. I remember when "Before We Were so Rudely Interrupted" first came out. And Ark. I still have the old Creem and Circus magazines from them and they had full page ads and reviews (unfortunately I don't think they were reviewed very highly or sold well), but that doesn't mean too much to me. Their version of Paint It Black is ...well ....different. Hard song to cover and make your own in my opinion. I'll be on the lookout for those - actually going to a record show today so who knows. Thanks so much. And you're not disturbing - I would love for my little channel to become a bit of a forum for all the viewers. Very best, Alan
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Thank you so much. I would sent ya all this stuff from Eric Burdon - but you can't imagine: Had a collection like you have and very expensive bootlegs (for example "the greatest show on earth" by tha STONES and countless more, FULL collection of STONES, BURDON & DYLAN
Sorry, did a mistake, pushed the wrong button. Wanted to tell ya, got a collection like you, countless, with a full collection of STONES, BURDON & DYLAN, GRAM PARSONS and very xpensive bootlegs. But my house burned absolutely down by a technical mistake! I wasnt guilty but me next to suicede if ya understand. All my music, my clothes, all family snapshots of my dead parents, etc. And: I'm a writer but a lot of my work, of my material life went up in smoke. - Kindly regards to Alan from Aaron
@@issa-ce1wy Gotta say, you are clearly the biggest Burdon fan I've met, and that's awesome. I'll find some of his later day stuff for sure.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Sorry, did a mistake by pressed tha wrong key, so I don't know if ya got my moaning - would sent ya all the BURDON-stuff for free, 'cause I got a lotta respekt of yar kindly, knowledged show... Had a collection like ya, for example whole STONES with bootlegs even vynil, whole DYLAN, whole BURDON (sure), GRAM PARSON, etc... - But my whole house was burnin down absolutely to the ground! it was a technical accident and I'm not guilty of it! All my material-life went up in smoke! All my family snapshots of my dead parents, all my clothes, books, technical equipment...! And I'm a writer and even a lot of my work is ashes now... My brother from Somalia helped me to get out of tha house. But ambulance must brought me to hospital. I was real next to suicide, 'cause I'm 55years and lost EVERYTHING of my "material-life", if ya understand me. - A great GEM of Eric Burdon-songs is called "no self pity", so I try. Lof yar show. Kindly regards and praises from Aaron
My Top Ten :
1 - Radiohead
2 - Bon Jovi
3 - David Bowie
4 - Journey ( after 3 first albums)
5 - Nirvana
6 - Living Colour
7 - Aerosmith - ( after Rock In A Hard Place)
8 - U2
9 - Roger Waters
10 - Eric Clapton
Really interesting list - thanks for sharing. As a big David Bowie fan, well, it's all personal taste of course, but I don't see that one. Also Bowie's career is so varied, perhaps there's some part of his career you might like. But otherwise yea - I get it. I'll have to check out those first three Journey albums (I'm not a fan of Journey at all - but I've heard some good things about those first three). thanks again so much for sharing.
@TheAlanRosenbergShow Yep, there are some Bowie things that I really like, especially from the early 70s, such as Ziggy Stardust, Diamond Dogs, Pin Ups. Thanks Alan for the excellent videos.
@@robertrobertsakarogerslemer ziggy and Diamond Dogs are amongst my personal faves (as is Aladdin Sane). I'm glad you like those. Thanks so much again- Happy Holidays.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Happy Holidays, Alan!
A lot of the songs I absolutely loathe have been played to death on the radio. Why do they do this? It's ridiculous!
Its extraordinary to me that so many people (seems like most people) just want to hear the same old songs over and over again - whether on the radio or in concert. It's beyond me.
Perfect list! (Other than Coldplay lol). So happy about the #1 pick. I couldn’t agree more. Especially can’t stand the way he used to stand pigeon-toed at the front of the stage with that smallish acoustic and whine away.
Thanks so much
What's with all those reccomendations in my RUclips feed with music fans telling me how much they hate something? It's getting annoying.
Funny, when I did that video I was unaware of other's doing it. But then these other huge channels did them, which funnily enough has given my video a big boost...lol. Go figure. But I promise, in this case I was not following the crowd.
Thank you....singer from Nickelback.
@@marcjohnson9270 I've never actually owned a Nickelback album, and really don't know their stuff, probably have heard songs on the radio, but don't know them by name or anything.
Good list. Van Hagar is IMO a station changer.
@@palacerevolution2000 me too.
You are eerily spot on. I don't agree 100%, but that would be impossible. I would never put Billy Joel on my list, but I absolutely agree there are about eight songs of his that never need to be played again. Geddy Lee's voice ruins Rush. Bon Jovi is trash except for WDOA and Runaway. I do like Coldplay. Journey is played out. Motley Crue, garage all the way. Dave Mathews I can't stand either. You are on point, my friend...at least for me.
@@evanpenn1 thanks so much. Yea it’s all personal but nice and fun that we agree.
Take off billy joel and rush: great choices! They both did awesome stuff until (including) 1982, falling off quick afterwards. Especially the non-hits. Queen is a bit overrated by fans + metal critics, hated by many others. Love the video!
Thank you so much - really appreciate it.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow Just remembered another one worthy of some praise: toto. Hate name + without all six original members they were lost. However, all four with classic lineup have something worthwhile. Especially first & 1982 hit album
@@threeofakindbygeneraldean3007 I’ve tried to get into Toto. Like some of their songs. Bought their greatest hits and didn’t keep it. Great musicians etc but not really for me.
❤Given how much I love Rush and Journey (and Billy Joel and Queen and Toto) now I am going to have to reconsider Foo Fighters. I have seen them before and not been impressed. But given how much I disagree with pretty much everything else this guy said, I am wondering if I might really like Foo Fighters and just not given them a proper chance. Also, I cannot relate with anyone who gets rid of music. Who does that?
@@bradhague5029 give them a chance then. Since we’re opposite yea you might love them. If you watch my channel I buy a lot of CDs thru the year usually for a dollar or two. I have limited space so only keep what I really like. My collection is over 5000 CDs that I really like and know very well.
I was waiting to see which ones I would be angry at, but I ended up agreeing with the list.
lol - thanks so much. big smile to my face...
I do not love Queen, who were proud of no using synths like a heavy metal band... and then changed their mind and became a meme. Great joke on Pratchett-Gaiman's Good Omens, when every single cassette inside the car is a Queen's one.
Thanks. I’m not familiar with that joke but pretty funny. Thanks
Hahajaja,, Great picks,,but i still listen to rush occasionally,,
You're not alone my friend. I watched them go from being a relative cult band to being one of the biggest prog and then just "rock" bands in the world. And they always seemed to be really great guys. I have much respect for them, even if they're not really my thing, largely because of Geddy's voice. Though the fact that they got into the rock hall of fame before Yes really annoys me...lol.
Alan I don’t disagree with you especially about Queen and Foo Fighters.
Thanks so much. There's many that don't agree with us..lol
Red hot chili peppers 🌶
@@reston81 I’m with you. They do nothing for me as well
Agree with most of those picks apart from Rush who are my favourite band and Foo fighters - as they are superb live.
Thanks so much.
meh. you love things, then you get sick of them.
That definitely can happen.
