- Hollywood has continued to attack online movie critics specifically channels like Nerdrotic and The Critical Drinker, and the more movies fail in Hollywood the more they choose to blame "toxic" online critics. With a recent article accusing Nerdrotic of things that could get him banned on social media, which makes you wonder if that is their intention? Of course what they accuse Nerdrotic of being is completely out of context and unless they have information I don't know, it's just wrong.

@@hrgwea not sufficient in a technical term, yes. To be qualified as a movie it needs audiovisual elements. That is correct. But the quality of those elements is almost insignificant compared to the story. They just need to be good enough to tell the tale in a comprehensible manner. Putting more effort into them is a nice-to-have luxury addition. On the other hand, if the story is shit, everything else is worthless.

A movie is combination of elements. Depending on the movie, some elements are more important than others.
There are movies where the main atractor is the audiovisual component.
There are movies where the main atractor is the dialog.
There are movies where the main atractor is the music.

Saying that a good story is all that matters is just wrong.
A good story can be ruined by bad acting, or bad music, or bad camera work, or bad CGI, or bad scenography, etc.

Music, camera work, CGI, scenography are audiovisual elements. For one, i can´t think of a single example where the latter ruins a good story if made poorly. By that standard you could throw away any movie made prior to 2000. Also, if all a movie has to offer is it´s music and/or visuals, why should i go out of my way to watch it (including paying money) when i get the exact same experience by watching a random RUclips music video for free?

These critics in mainstream media just feel threatened because they know that fans are tired of them "shilling" for big-time studios and people have stopped listening to them. Fans know they are more likely to get an honest review from people like Nerdrotic or The Critical Drinker than the Hollywood Reporter or the Daily Beast

Pardon me asking but is hollywood reporter anywhere near being relevant nowadays? Yeah i thought so.
Good points however as a professional trailer editor myself, you can’t point the blame on “some dumb trailer editor” because when it comes to a 350 million dollar movie, some dumb editor cant make the call and release a cut into the masses. If anything, the studio probably had 15 other cuts from 5 other trailer companies to choose from, this particular trailer probably been through 40 revisions alone, and most likely some high ranking producer asked this song to be used. Then the trailer actually has to be approved by the director, producers, studio executives, who all have their 2 cents to add. So….. some dumb editor can’t just cut a trailer together and be held responsible
The fact that they actually made a sequel to a one and done movie like gladiator is the crime here. I’ll go see this because I love Roman movies/shows but I’ll still be disappointed they made it.

I need to thank Hollywood and Disney for making sure I heard about the Critical Drinker and Nerdrotic. I am not always up on these things so it was nice of them to let me know to check them out.
I do have a problem with Denzel Washington playing a Roman emperor. So fed up with all of the race-swapping at this point. I'm also sick of seeing Pedro Pascal's face in absolutely everything.
