If I was still middle-class I'd have gone to theaters, but necessary costs have risen so much that I'm now poor. Let Hollywood rely on themselves to watch their own movies.
That's apparently who the movies are made for so...
But Biden "got the this country back on it's feet again."...
That's a part of the issue that doesn't seem to be mentioned at all. It's not just that the movies aren't good. If it was only that, then why are the movies that are well received not making money? Movie tickets are outrageous compared to a decade ago and most of these flicks end up on VOD within a month or two. People who don't have the expendable income are going to go with the cheapest option. This is really a case of bad economics combined with bad business decisions, combined with an industry of creatives who aren't creative, led by people who don't like to take risks. As George Carlin said, "this is circling the drain time".
Maybe trump can give you more tax cuts. Or revive the coal industry as he wanted to. Or maybe his daughter and son in law can give you a job.
Skip one of your Uber eats night
Guess who else is on strike in Hollywood?
The audience.
🤣
Amen brother
Damn straight!

InсеI, i can see why you're so mad. It's obvious that no woman have ever loved you, not even your own mother, and they never will. How sad is that?

So true, sadly video games are joining the ranks of industries that hate their consumers.
$50(AUD) for one movie ticket and pop corn and 6% plus interest rate for mortgage .... No one's going to the movies when the banks and cinemas are taking that wet bite, they will slit their own greedy throats
I disagree. I think the reason this movie flopped is that people simply don't trust Hollywood anymore. They saw a female protagonist, assumed the movie would be bad and ran for the hills.
It’s what I do, same with video game, in the past it would made me go to see it or play it, nowadays it’s a red alert
Well panderverse did this 👏
@@ShahulHaq Just saw demographic numbers that like 72% of Furiosa's audience was male, and it makes me wonder maybe these movies are shooting themselves in the foot by forgetting to pander to the actual people who show up and watch these movies (men). Maybe it even explained Fury Road's somewhat poor box office numbers despite being considered one of the greatest action movies of all time. I have no problem with the female leads in Fury Road/Furiosa, they are done well, but strong female characters are not bringing women to watch these movies. It's insane to me that Hollywood is somewhat forgetting and costing themselves billions in the process (Marvel and Star Wars do this x10 worse). John Wick knows its audience well and gets rewarded greatly.
I watched the Fall Guy trailer and thought good until I found that the whole story wasn't about the Fall Guy but instead about a girl he wanted to sleep with..
She was the MC pulling him around by the nose as comic relief...
That most things now except when they go full on racist or political but only against certain groups..
but that's what he said in the video, did you not see the whole video? he didn't say with these exact words but was what he meant, especially when he said about switching the male mc for a female one.
Here's why movies are flopping...
Why pay $18 per ticket times 2, per couple ($36), plus the price of simple refreshments ( maybe another $20) , so you are up to $56-60. Dealing with annoying people that don't realize they are in a cinema, not their living room, that talk and kick and have their lit phones on during a movie you paid good money for.
Then that same movie is put ON DEMAND 4-5 weeks later for only $20 and you save money and don't have to put up with annoying jerks that do not respect the "movie going experience".
Either make ticket prices less, police the theaters, or stop the instant ON DEMAND!
EXACTLY!
Nailed it.
I'm trying to remember when I last shelled out any cash to watch anything, be it in a cinema or on a streaming service. It probably would've been in the nineties, I paid to sit in a recliner chair and be served beer.
Over the last 30 years I have seen every worthwhile production and haven't paid a fucking cent.
you forgot to put an m in that last sentence.
@@alittlecreepywhenyou How astonishingly selfish of you.
The state of the industry is one factor but here's the biggest reason I don't go to the movies anymore: During my lifetime the price of a movie ticket has increased tenfold in my country, my purchasing power has not. This means moviegoing has graduated from affordable pastime to expensive luxury and I can't afford any luxuries.
Plus here in India, the price of popcorn+Coke or other beverages is twice the rate of movie ticket 😂
@@akashvig5007
Don’t buy coke and popcorn, you’ll win in more ways than one.
🫡
And you'll probably have a better experience watching it on your own couch!
Well this is true. I live in South America and if I go to the movies, it is likely I would spend like 40 usd with my wife and A, I can wait for it to be streamed or B I can wait to rent/buy it, but of course, that happens if the movie is actually good, if not well, F it.
Furiosa is the best "flop" movie I will ever see... sorry the movie did not make buck$, but the movie itself is certainly worthy of a watch and rewatch, and watch it again and again
In the movie there is a complete bullet farm with high end weapons, apocalyptic psychopaths make business with those weapons, but mostly they use ancient weapons. That's dumb.
And there are animalistic humans inside the fortresses, but seems they are good for nothing:
A useless mass.
It's also $tupid.
Just watched this on Netflix. No way this flops 10 yrs ago before all of this woke girl boss nonsense. This movie is great and too bad it didn't come out before Fury Road. That would have been a terrific 1-2 punch.

It’s honestly one of the best film I’ve seen in years, I blame disney and all the recent girl boss movies that were poorly made as of lately, I believe in the long run this movie will go down as a classic and a masterpiece, bc It completely caught me off guard! Dune 2 and Oppenheimer are the exceptions that prove the rule.
People are sick of Girl bosses, prequels, sequels, reboots , remakes. Why don’t Hollywood give us brand new stories, new characters and without the wOke “the message “ in them . How many iconic characters have we got in about 10 years.
Because there are only a limited number of movie plot lines in which you can hang CGI spectacles on every 5 minutes starting from the opening sequence.
Sadly, these plotlines have now been done to death, good writers refuse to give themselves migraines thinking of new stories to suit them, and into the vacuum have stepped useless jobbing writers more suited to writing for afternoon TV melodrama set in hospitals.
They refuse to.
That's why a movie like "Sound of Freedom" had so much trouble getting a theatrical release. They had to go independent with it, then it was a massive success.
There is John Wick and... I can't think of anyone else. Because Breaking Bad is 2000s, so.

She isn't even a girl boss kind of character. She basically is getting her ass kicked constantly through the whole movie and then gets some key opertunities to get some good licks in. It's one of the best action movies since Fury Road.
Finally, someone that’s get it.
I don't think that it's she is or isn't a girl boss character. Her character herself was good but emotionally female girl boss protagonists have been shoved down our throats for the past few years to it just really leaves a bad taste when it comes to female protagonist
@@cinderace1892 I don't know. Why not judge each movie on its own merits.
@@cinderace1892 John Wick 4, The Bea Keeper, Equalizer 3, Mission Impossible, Retribution, all guy boss movies from last year. Name as many girl boss movies from last year and you might have a point.
@davidcomito505 I may not have explained it well. I agree with you. I do think that Furiosa was good! Her character, great action scenes, and Chris Hemsworth being a goofball villain we can all enjoy. The point that I think he was trying to come across is that Girl bosses in general have been overused and constantly spat in our face saying that we are the problem and it's not the directors terrible writing in some to most cases. So basically it's like when you eat the same thing over and over again to the point you just feel so distasteful to it
Why are these movies flopping? Economics. People no longer trust Hollywood to provide a good value for money. A trip to a theater is an expensive proposition.
Economics is a huge factor. It's just cheaper and easier to stay home, which over the last few years people have been trained into doing. The political aspect is just accelerating Hollywood's decline unfortunately.
i wouldn't go if it was free
@animelover48348 On the contrary, Hollywood is obsessed with representation which is what you're talking about. Hollywood thinks they're correcting an imbalance by featuring more under-represented groups and giving us characters like the girl boss. They think they are giving more people a chance to see 'themselves' on screen, and that representation is one of the most important things to audiences.
But as it turns out (and which everyone has always known) women just aren't anywhere near as interested in action movies as men are, regardless of who the main character is. It's like thinking that if more male characters are the protagonists of romance films, suddenly more men will want to watch them.
It doesn't work like that. Women can be great action hero protagonists if done right, as the classic examples of Ripley and Sarah Connor prove.
Yeah I paid 50 bucks for two tickets, no popcorn or anything. I liked the movie, but 50 bucks....

"Fool me 10 or more times, shame on you."
stop going to the pictures. think of the money you will save
Bingo!
Whoring out our nostalgia.
Bait and switches like this don't work anymore. It didn't work for Dr Strange 2 and Black Panther 2, yet it seems like WB has learned nothing.
@odindarkll3706 those movies you mentioned approached a billion dollar haul. They underperformed but they still made high end income
The way both dunes performed tells me it's not movie fatigue. It's hollywood fatigue. People can't trust hollywood to deliver quailty movies anymore, they pushed everyone away with... THE MESSAGE!
And the One Piece live action series proves there's no superhero fatigue either. It's people tired of the new host of crap superhero movies.
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 did well. Spider-Man NWH did well. They obviously had to fight to keep the woke out of the movies.
I must have watched that first dune 30 times. At least 2 a week on HBO.
The acting, the music, the cinematic flimage was just stunning.
Meh, it's not that good. The Message is in Dune as well
Excellent point
Barbie, little mermaid made millions. What fatigue?
Just bought a 75" TV for like 600 Euros. Why go to the cinema to walk out of a movie full of "The Message". I can simply turn it off and watch something else on stream.
what message?
No OLED? Fail
wtf are you talking about?
Good going and I agree 100%. Can't stand modern movie messaging with all the now common "future is female" girl boss agendas. They say this movie didn't have as much, but who cares, it is too late imo. Will not be watching any new films until we see a significant change in modern film making.
FACTS
The economy is in the toilet, inflation is hitting record high, but they still expect us to waste our savings in theaters when 4 movies out of 5 are unwatchable.
It makes more sense for me to wait until it comes out in a Red Box or the Public Library to see this movie. Or any movie lately. Red Box is about $3 and the Public Library is free.
There is no feeling of needing to see anything in the theaters. The Fear of Missing Out is gone.

Women don't watch wnba either lol
@liquidtruth7954 yea that's the hilarious thing about the events of the last three months. Dudes that just like hoops kept the league afloat for decades and now women are mad it isn't bigger. And despite their crusade to make it bigger and get the women paid more, these women who never liked sports before, will abandon it and leave it to dudes again.

I want to see "Mary Jane: a Spiderman saga" next, where Mary Jane is the hero and Spiderman dont even show up in the movie!
What's the bet it's in the pipeline?
The last Spider-Man game with moosejaw Mary Jane dabbled with that a bit by making her a mandatory playable character for some segments. I can see it happening.
They already done it. They race swapped Peter Parker with Miles Morales and have had Gwen Stacy and some other pregnant Black chick as spider man
BTW why didn't they capitalize on Spider Gwen solo project? Come on, Hollywood, it's right there!
This movie was made because Charlize Theron upstaged Tom Hardy in the last one and people ONLY cared about Furiosa from that movie.....but when people ask for Furiosa made popular by Charlize Theron, and get "Furiosa" played by NOT Charlize Theron, it's a bad idea.....
I thought that Tom Hardy filled Mel Gibson's shoes quite well, though.
Hollywood has lost the trust of the audience. It will take a long time to rebuild that trust. Until then, some good movies will flop. Hollywood has lectured and derided the audience for so long now that we have stop listening entirely. I know personally after being told so many times that "This movie was not made for you!" I have honored their requests and have stayed away from the movie theaters.
Last time I went to the movies was March of 2024 to see Season 4 of The Chosen. They broke up the season into three movies. My wife and I went to all three movies.

What kind of stupid movie is called 'Mad Max Saga' without even having Mad Max in it? It's like the director didnt even want to get Tom Hardy involved
Spoilers: Mad Max was in Furiosa. For 3 seconds lol.
Bring good films back and get rid of garbage people in the industry.
Furiosa was always meant to replace Max. It was very apparent back then in Fury Road and I said that too. She was not overpowered but still a girl boss who would displace Max and take over the franchise. What Miller did not notice is that even the people who like her character didn't care that much that they wanted to see a movie about her.
Did anyone notice that HUGE plothole? She runs away and Immortan Joe doesn't even ask where his most prized possession is???? And she hides among a completely male workforce and nobody notices a little girl? Even if you say she shaved her head a little boy suddenly appearing after she ran away how is that possible? I almost fell out of my chair watching that nonsense.
Out of all the Mad Max stories you could have told, about the Wasteland War, the rise of Imortan Joe, the battle for the Citadel, what happened when Max left, or even a story focusing entirely on Dementus, they chose to tell this story, and at the worst possible time... when people were deliberately ignoring Mary Sue movies. It could have been a worthwhile entry into the franchise, but it's just popcorn. It doesn't help matters that it's the most generic premise; girl is kidnapped by a man and spends her life waiting for revenge.
Exactly. Also they had next to zero romance, which might have given the story some energy. The slight chemistry between Praetorian Jack and Furiosa was good and they nipped it right away, probably because Jack is actually a more compelling character and reminds the audience of the Mad Max they are missing. I'm so sick of girlboss movies. They are fake and ghey.

I can honestly say sometimes we’ll take the kids to the movies just to get some change of scenery. Also they have a great time and I’ll just take my girls so mom can have a break. We watch a lot of stuff at home, but nothing can replace a theater experience, even when we’re watching minions haha so it’s still worth going to the movies however far apart the visits are because of the budget. They are created differently and have different strengths and weaknesses in their character. They are NOT created to be competitive, but complimentary. When I see a male actor in an action film, he should exude masculinity; likewise, a women should be feminine.
You can't choose to undermine the sexes roles since (literally) the creation of the species because you have a fetish for women badly pretending to be shoddy knock-offs of men.

I feel bad for the theaters. They're at the mercy of these Hollywood lunatics who refuse to make good movies
I wonder if they could just play old, good movies, and not bother with any of this new garbage.
Are they though? Makes me wonder.
What if a cinema chain simply refused to play anything created by Disney? First prove to me it's not woke and then I ~might~ play it in two of my theaters per cinema.
Instead lean on older movies people enjoy. Theaters have been playing Rocky Horror Picture Show for decades. It's not my cup of meat but people like it.
Do like stores taking Bud Light off the shelves. If theaters stopped showing Disney movies then they couldn't even theoretically make money on new releases.
This would permanently cripple Disney's ability to make movies. That's a good thing.
Other studios would either take the hint or fall to the same fate.
I believe cinemas, but especially cinema chains, could break the power of DEI.

Here’s my take: George Miller conceived Fury Road and Furiosa in the mid to late 90s and has been trying to get them made since the early 2000s before the “girl boss” trope as we know it was even a thing and female led action movies were only just starting to be a thing. Fast forward to 2015 and the idea of a badass woman warrior character co-leading a genre action flick isn’t exactly groundbreaking but overall the character is well received. Fast forward again to 2024 and audiences are so “girl bossed” out that any movie with even a hint of the trope (ie a small woman with unchanging facial expression leading an action movie) repels a significant portion of them. Even if Furiosa is not a true girl boss the oversaturation of girl bosses in Hollywood today killed much of the hype for the movie.
Disney has ruined female characters and we're seeing the results of that.

Moreover, if fans were to support a movie with even a whiff of the "girl boss" trope in it Hollywood's confirmation bias would see that as a sign to commission 10 more years of "girl boss" movies before they are even willing to admit it isn't working and begin to change course again.

We want Max to have a dignified send off. Only Mel Gibson can play Max, in my opinion - he CREATED that character on screen in 1979, and is the ONLY PERSON who should play him while we still have the man here. Let him bid farewell to the character in a gritty, brutal, low-budget film (just like the first two)... and have him die a GOOD death. Nothing as idiotic as my other heroes (Han Solo and Luke Skywalker) had to suffer, but something noble.
The franchise deserves that. Hell, even have it that Furiosa is responsible for helping start the final recovery of civilization, but there's one last warlord out in the wasteland. Max is old. He's battered. He KNOWS he's not gonna survive a confrontation with the big bad - he'll probably WIN, but the effort IS going to kill him... and he does it anyway, saying "I've been living in the wastes too long to go back to civilization, kid - I know it. Mel Gibson returning to Mad Max would be awesome, but one thing should be kept in mind here is this: The Mad Max movies were never about Mad Max. The only movie about Mad Max, was Mad Max. That was the only movie told from his perspective. The other movies are told from another. Mad Max is a folk here and his story is told by others that Mad Max encountered. Fury Road was told from Furiosa's perspective and Furiosa was her story of becoming. So, to call it a Mad Max story is fine. I'm not sure what else you would call it, since The Wasteland was not established yet and will likely not be given the chance thanks to Furiosa's financial flop.
I will argue that Hollywood is not doing well, but the world is not doing well. The American economy especially, is not doing well and when entertainment, as the last bastion of our escape from the grind of the world is so costly, that it reminds you of how crappy things are, it's no wonder theaters are not doing well.

Furiosa:Why Mad Max movies don't need a male audience anymore.
Your terms are acceptable. Hope the ladies show up.
So Furiosa's going to become the WNBA of movies ....?
Where they ever said that? Is a spin off?
@@SubZero-hs9xc It's ok, they can't read or comprehend the title, they're too busy being brainded sheep waiting to be told what they should think of it by their favourite youtube "critics".
Movie was really good.
@@jozefrockatansky1588 The critic said it was good--seems you're too braindead to understand that.
@@SubZero-hs9xc see: The IGN article mentioned in this video.
10 years ago I would have told you that I'm taking a break from going to the theater in hopes that others do too and Hollywood can get it's shit together.
10 years later they still haven't gotten their shit together and I still haven't returned.
You build trust one brick at a time. You tear down the wall all at once. It will take a while to rebuild the wall of trust in Hollywoke.
it is gone forever
well even in the first movie max was kinda sidelined in favour of furiosa and i remember now it pissed me of at the time
because i rewatched it after furiosa .
furiosa isn´t a bad movie per say apart from the fact that hemsworth is playing love and thunder thor only slightly more insane and evil this time .
also 130 pounds girl surviving loosing an arm which have been infested by worms in a world with no antibiotics and no doctors is way too unrealistic -
first she would go into shock - if she survived she would then get a terrible infection and fevers and die soon after ...
It doesn't matter if your female protagonist subverts the girlboss expectations. Audiences no longer trust Hollywood. Enough of the gender swaps. Enough of the removal of strong male protagonists.
And don't underestimate the Chinese influence. They own big stakes in Hollywood now. They have never been able to project the kind of cultural soft power the US has, so they have to destroy it.
@Porter-88 incel, incel, incel. Everything is incel these days.
@Porter-88 No one cares about your shaming language either, bot.
@@Travcosp Exactly
@Porter-88 cool story
At least with Garfield we are certain it's still a "he" and he continues to love his Lasagna and he is not going to become vegetarian.
Not yet, anyway. Give them time.
@@wraithneon Came here to say this
Actually a female Garfield might be good
Garfield but the movie is actually about Garfielda, his sister.
Stop giving them ideas 🤣. We literally just had Velma happen to us.
This is one of the few movies that actually turned out pretty good. Its a prequeal that definitely has its flaws but imo Chris hem was a chef kiss awesome and the exploration of the world was pretty good. For a mad max movie without the max it wasn't bad.
Imagine if we got Mad Max with old Mel, going out in a blaze of glory, during his last mission, taking down all the bad guys with him, in a budget defying conflagration. A sight to make a grown man cry.
The girl boss action flick is toxic, but Hollywood chose this hill to die on...
Except that this movie doesn't have a "girl boss" whatever tf that means nowadays.
“Put a chick in it, and make it lame!” - for some reason rings in my ears.
Furiosa may be a chick but she isn't lame
@@Shockkings0714 Yep. The opposite of lame.
BS. Maybe you should check your ears as Furiosa was a great movie, just as good if not better as Fury Road.
Good or bad is not relevant, you miss one important aspect: people who watch a trailer, or an adverting get a brief thing "yet another girl boss", so they discard the product, they don't watch it, they don't know it was good... the movie flops, simple as that.
@@trattogatto Then, via streaming or traditional home video, the film finds its audience and becomes a hit. Has happened numerous times, will happen to this, I think.
I think people just don’t go to the theater anymore. MI7 had Cruise basically flopped, Indiana Jones DofD had Ford and flopped.
At this point we just assume that anything Hollywood produces is 100% garbage, unless a movie is recommended to the sky by every single person we know, but since no one is willing to go waste their money to find out, there is no one to recommend it anymore.
I've seen it and recomment it, there's nothing woke in it, no girlboss bollocks, no DEI stuff...but that falls on deaf ears because everybody is just parroting what their favourite youtube critics say, and some of them have not even watched it, yet happily rip into it.
My comment won't change anyones mind because everyone has already decided to hate this movie, which is a shame.
People can easily live without hollywood.

Girls don’t even like these type of movies.
You’re right. The girl boss is dead. It’s always been dead. Hollywood has alienated its target audience and we are FINALLY seeing the results. The last movie I saw in theaters was Endgame but I stopped going to movies long before that.
Trump supporters don't even like girls.
I went and saw it with two women who liked it - but only one (my wife) would go out of her way to watch anything Mad Max. To generalize, women aren't going to obsess over cult classics, they are more social. This is a male series lol.
Completely apolitical men are still going to be swayed away from a series which looks like it is abandoning its roots. Subconsciously people know that girlboss-movies just "feel" worse. They have the muscle memory to know this even non-ideologically, just like how some people avoid movies with ex-military protagonists or romantic comedies or whatever.
I thought the movie was good, although the main character suffers from being a Wunderkind and generally very strong, but still entertaining. Too much monologue, too on-the-nose, the color looked weird, some shots looked exaggerated or like CGI was hidden in there, and the movie was a little too long, but otherwise good.
@@thewerepyreking I want to see it really bad myself, but my wife could care less. I agree with what you are saying. I over simplified.
@@christianrooks4610 Oh I know, I was just adding my two cents. You're still right
Looking at the comments I feel like an outlier. Saw it three times with three different groups of friends, overall thought it was a blast. Appreciate that you too gave credit where credit is do and expressed your enjoyment of it. I loved the world building, action and visuals.
I came expecting a highly stylized post apocalyptic action film and that's what I got.
Part of the reason that I coughed up to see it with different friend groups with the support more movies like this. Ones that take a risk.
Maybe its not everyone's cup of tea. NBD
Oh and quick correction, she picks a peach at the start of the film not an apple.
As to why it didnt do well? Seems like it could all of these factors: hollywood burn out, tightening belts, apathy 🤷♂️ people fed up with "lady boss"
Though to the latter in that list, its not really a "lady boss" film to any degree other than she is a female protagonist. If you want to enjoy a highly stylized post-apocalyptic action film it's definitely worth the price of entry.
I didn't mind that max wasnt in it, since it was a prequel, especially after the fact max was rather nonexistent in fury road. But still would love to see Max Adventure.
Speaking to the larger issue of failing to get butts in seats. For me, I want to enjoy some fun story telling, give me something new and creative. Everything feels the same. Sequels, prequels, super heros....
The other thing for me, Hollywood puts out sooon many movies where violence is always the answer, at this point in my life I've had enough violence (i know i know i just gushed over furiosa BUT there is a great line by dimentus where he kind of calls out the genre which i thought was brillant, essentially we are in a cycle of Non-Stop violence, rage fueled by grief).
Anyway, gimme some more creative playful
..dare I say magical movies like 3,000 years of longing.
