- I've wanted a powerful NERF Dart Tag Speedload 6 for a long time, and I've actually had it for...what feels like years. But I've never had the gall to get it opened and try to fix the issues it had, but once we've been inside it becomes apparent that there's a lot more to the Speedload 6 than most people can handle.

What if you put flywheels in front of the barrel would that fix the low muzzle velocity issue
Would it be possible to have that flimsy plastic piece at the top 3D scanned and then replacing it with a metal part?
Very glad yall finally got around to the terror that this blaster is. And holy crap, looking back at this i did such a janky job. 😂😂😂 My quick 16 has been just sitting around without love for a while. I think you would appriciate it far more. What if you used a flywheel cage?
Screw that, someone needs to design a 3D printable model and fix the problems like weak priming rods, and make it direct plunger, and make some other adjustments as needed, it would be like the next caliber of something, sell hardware kits with metal priming rods and catch plates.

@@redroyal4287 no, I mean redesign it from the ground up, kinda like the prophecy or swordfish to be better, let's rerelease it ourselves instead of waiting for Nerf to do it.
I would love a direct plunger version of the speedload 6. The ability to just top off without having to remove a mag is one of my favorite things.

Updated versions of the Speedload 6 and Quick 16 would be super. I would probably pay unfair amounts of money for those, especially if they kept the same lines to the shells and painted both sides.

Sadly even a 6kg spring is enough for it to kill itself in my experience

I would love a Direct plunger quick 16.... my god.
I've ONLY modded spring blasters, they're not hard once you get used to it.
Keep all the screws in the side casing. Don't undo them all the way. Be gentle with all the internals, never force or pull on anything. Use a thin tool when reassembling to hold internals in place if you have to.
Reverse Plungers are fine also. Easy to mod as well. Get a second spring to act on the rear of the tube.*
Main thing on the Speedload is making it clear Jams. Cut off the bolt guide and remove the Jam Door wedge so you can easily get your finger in there. It will jam when you slam fire if the darts aren't perfect.
It's a back up side arm, not a sniper rifle. Easy to load darts quickly. Don't bother trying to get it to hit hard.
It has a terrible sight picture and only feels right slam fired from the hip.
Funnily enough i would attempt to mod it to have a removable magazine (and a Magnus with a Centurion Mag).
Brass breeching seems like a good idea, but you don't have to. Mod the Dart Barrel Gate to stay closed a little bit longer so the dart is forced into the bolt further. It's free and easy to do when the blaster is apart. Trim down the nub on the gate actuation system.
Mine naturally shoots about 15 degrees down, so next time i have it apart i'm going to have to work out how to straighten out the barrel/ bolt.
Also, truthfully, the Speedload is outclassed by a Strongarm or Hammershot. Even easier to Mod and they don't Jam.
I wish Snapfires were sold near me too.
*Downside is rattly spring when you run unloaded and having to extend the retaining cap with longer screws. But it works.

I would love a direct plunger Speed Load 6, that was my first thrift store blaster. I loved the smooth flowing lines, once I got it home I was disappointed by the performance and the fact that the one I had thrifted jammed all the time.

I'm surprised captain slug hasn't made a version of the caliburn with this kind of internal magazine in it.
Probably structural integrity reasons. But hey its open source, so you can design your own.
Why artificially limit your magazine round count to a fixed number dictated by an internal magazine design?
@@totophi Me. I do that. I'd rather be able to top up my mags easily than have to change out the entire mag.
Picked up a speedload 6 at a thrift store not long ago, might try this. Also picked up a swarmfire the other day, way more exciting.
God I hope they bring back the Dart Tag series, or at least try to give something like it.
bypass the sled weakness?
what if the plunger rod was extended to protrude out the rear of the blaster?
then figure a way to attach that protruding end to the priming slide (extended slide)
now spring forces can be pulled directly instead of through the weak link/sled.
I can see why they went with "PITA to open" as it was a league intended for younger nerfers. At least that's what I remember. Even if the whistler Taggers were the best darts back when we had 5 ammo types to contend with (3 of which worked together in the Suction/Whistler/Taggers, 2 of which didn't in Streamlines and the Aero discs). God, I still remember the 5 icons for blasters that Nerf had to use until Elite (in which we thought would 'solve' the problem, but then came the short lived Elite Suction, Mega, Accustrike, Rival, and now Ultra...there's 6 ammo types now! Of which only Elites and Accustrikes will work together, though you can still get the 3rd party Elite style suctions on Amazon. "Fix the Problem" as in we had only 1 unified dart type)

The speed load six looks to have the same plunger tube size of about an old school panther tank. not that those are that easy to come across anymore. But than again. What can't take a panther tank...

would probably be a lot easier nowadays with 3d printing technology
make a custom perfect sized spacer; more accurate than tape wrap or getting lucky with pipe fittings
If got a quick 16 with a broken bolt, the tab the darts rest on before being chambered is shaped off, any ideas for fixing it or should I just give it a good funeral and bury it?

tbh this is my favorite blaster because of its internal magazine which i prefer rather than a cylinder blaster like a disruptor.

I say nightmare. Why go to the trouble of making a speed load 6 direct plunger when the disruptor, strongarm, spylight, retaliator, dart zone magnum, and recon mkii all do the same thing with either a simpler reload system, higher capacity, or both? I just don't see the appeal of working on a blaster like the speed load 6 just for nostalgia as I personally prefer simple functionality over all other aspects of the blaster.
It's about 8 times faster to reload than those, it's extremely comfortable, has slam fire, etc.

You could just pay Shapeways to print a stainless steel connector for the priming handle and then you'd have eliminated that source of weakness allowing you to focus on using a stronger spring. It looks like it uses fairly simple geometric shapes, so modeling it shouldn't be too hard. It also looks pretty small, so printing it could be fairly cheap (
Yeah but nobody seems to give enough of a shit to actually make parts for the Speedload 6 since they're too busy sucking off their retaliators or whatever the flavor of the month is.
Funny thing... i just watched this to see what the performance on yours was. 65? Not bad. My direct plunger speedload hits 85-90. You might want to give this mod another shot.

Damn it I scrapped my speedload after botching a direct plunger conversion. Ugh....
See how I personally would solve the skewiff plunger is creating a mounting bracket, like take the left and right sections of the shell, mould some sugru or something to where the plunger sits and get some PVC or polycarbonate support beams and glue/screw it in

Somebody should make a 3D-printed adapter kit that allows for the easy installation of Retaliator internals or something, all you'd need is to cut a few bits of the boltsled out and epoxy in the new components (an adapter to fit the new plunger tube to the breach, a plate to align the plunger tube, a new catch piece, etc.)
But that'll probably never happen because "duurr poo poo pee pee blastur"

The internal magazine mechanism loads a dart when you prime so even with flywheels you would have to prime it betwren shots
