In this video we continue the fixes on the GMC Sierra RCSB. If you own a GM truck or car this is probably an issue you will have eventually. The key is tough to turn or will not turn without wiggling back and forth. The tumbler or ignition lock cylinder goes bad.
Now you can go to a local parts store or hop on Amazon and order a replacement with a new key. The problem is all the other locks will use a different key. I decided to replace or rebuild the ignition cylinder or tumbler to fix this common issue. GM actually sells this and you can rebuild or replace with simple hand tools. This can be done in under one hour and allow you to keep the factory key that matches the vin on the truck. If you are having issues with your ignition or key not turning this is a must watch how to video. This is very common on the trucks from 1999-2013. It seems the newer the truck the less issues are had. The other part that is nice about this is if you ever lose your key you can go to GM with you registration or title and have a new one made. If you lose a parts store replacement you will not have that option. Hit the Comments and let me know what you think.......

We had this on several of our work trucks and the locksmith we used says its in part due to the end of the key getting worn. So we keep a master key to cut new ones from. Great video!

Good day Yes the key should be cut, but now it is a old key, so cutting is the same not?

My locksmith made a minor adjustment using a manual key cutting machine to compensate for the key wear. He cut a blank first to make sure that it turned in the cylinder and then cut the chip key from the blank. I didn't need to replace the cylinder tumblers.

I have a 2001 chevy silverado and the key goes in and you can turn it but doesn't crank all the way over. Now I already replaced the lock cylinder a few weeks earlier and been working but had hard time taking key out after turning off every time we used it then tried to start wouldn't any ideas on what could be the problem now. The cylinder has warranty so got another one but don't want this to happen again. Thank you for the help

I did this exact same thing. But only I paid a locksmith to do it. Replace the original then bought one through the dealer. Have the locksmith hook me up this is about 2 or 3 years ago. And it's already shot hard time turning. I will buy a aftermarket doorman brand. And just have two keys want to unlock my door and one to start my truck. I won't buy no more AC Delco original ones.
