Excellent video. Very informative and it gave me the confidence that I can easily undertake replacing the ignition lock cylinder in my 2008 Chevy Silverado. Had decided I was going to order a new Ignition lock cylinder and do the replacement. First, I want to thank you for sharing your time and expertise. It clearly laid out how to go about making the replacement. As always I read the comments others make to see if there are any tips and ideas shared that might be applicable to my project. Wow, within the first few comments there was one from Orem Lock stating that about "99% of the time you do NOT need to replace the cylinder at all. Just get a new Factory Cut key from a locksmith or dealership. Worn-out keys will cause you to have to jiggle the key in the ignition to turn. A new cut key (Not just a copy) will solve the problem". I immediately thought that since I had been using the same key since 2008 I should take a look at my key. Very worn, so I dug out the second key that came with the truck and tried it. Works like a charm, my ignition lock cylinder issue is gone. Thanks again 1A Auto for the video, time and expertise AND I also want to thank Orem Lock for their comment. The two of you have simple made my day and saved me a few bucks.

If your just changing the cylinder you can literally pop the top cover off and pop the ignition out quickly. I just did it without even disconnecting the battery it ran for a few seconds while I plugged the new one in. If you guys wanna save a few minutes
@@salvatoregallo4409 Sometimes Just go to Dealer get brand new key about $40 should work. It's usually a combination of worn key and cylinder that causes malfunction. So brand new key may work. Not a new copy, that won't work. Must be brand new from key code
Try twisting key from top and bottom using both hands. Grab top of key with right fingers and bottom of key with left fingers. Usually that gets mine to turn and currently it’s pretty bad compared to issues I’ve had in the past
You need to include what to do about the theft deterrent system. Cause I did everything you did ij the video and the truck didn't turn on. I freaked out. Not cool.
I would jiggle my key back and forth in order for it to turn. I bought the kit thinking it was the cylinder and the lock tumblers. It was pretty easy and straight forward to uninstall & install back. Didnt really fix the issue. What i do is i stick the key into the ignition pull it out just a bit and it turns perfectly. I believe the key is the issue, i need a new cut key.
If I replace the ignition lock cylinder in my husband’s truck, will he still be able to use his old key fob to lock, unlock, and automatic start his truck? Thank you in advance!
Couple of questions: 1. What was your original issue? 2. After changing the cylinder did you have to do any kind of programming or was it a simple take off, put on?
I can’t get my key cylinder back in the correct position. I noticed there are two springs in the back that the flat part of cylinder goes between. Can you rotate those in the back ?
I bought a cheap set on a very popular shopping site that included the ignition tumbler and door lock cylinder with two keys 5 years ago for my '06 Suburban and they've worked perfectly since I put them in . I kept my old key for the spare tire lock . And I just received another set for my '07 Yukon I bought 5 days ago .
+James Chuaycham ป้อม ศักดิ์ชัย Thanks for watching! You will be able to reuse your original key, but will have to set all of the tumblers with the new part. Here is a video on how that procedure works: ruclips.net/video/3DKNx7im76s/видео.html

What do you do if you can't turn the key to the start position?
Either drill it or keep turning it and tapping it these often have failed tumblrs
Very valid question. The exact reason I’m changing mine out. Lol
