  • I believe physical gaming is dying, even if digital sales are off the charts. We need to save physical games. Here's how you can help to save them.

    I am glad I grew up years ago. Vinyl is not back in a big way. Sure it outsells CDs but its still less that 10% of peak CD sales. Sometimes things need to be let go. I love watching people play and talk about old retro stuff but do I want to play Mario 64? Nope, I rather go outside and walk or something.

      There are some good ones, or at least ones that'll work with you on the price around me, but the rest are soulless scumbags.

    An all digital future for games and even music, movies, books, etc... is just about the final nail in the coffin. Honestly people are seeing it as a convienant way to enjoy things on the go and hassle free (as in not going to go pick it up and dealing with other people/or scalpers/hagglers), which is fine, however, it is also such a risk now. Yeah is sucks that your digital media can be revoked or lost in an instant but that is not what I am concerned about. What I am concerned about is that people are also leaving digital footprints behind in their digital purchases...you have to put in information of this or that, your personal info, your card info or maybe bank info, etc...And the more you put out there the more you are prone to ID theft, becoming a scam target, getting your account(s) hacked that retains your funding source and much more. And we have seen these big time companies getting security breached before, will eventually happen again. Sure all these have been a problem back in the day, but going forward it is only going to get worse.
    But yes I agree physical media needs to be saved, needs to be kept alive for as long as it can be. However, it is going to die out eventually or fade drastically in this digital era.

    I think Nintendo's next console will likely have a digital version. Also, retro games has become too expensive to collect, which means I personally will go all digital soon.

      I emulate and see if I actually enjoy the game before I buy. But I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to have a digital console.

    I agree 100% people need to keep buying physical games damn it lol that’s why we are getting less and less awesome releases cuz everyone wants to go digital. The only digital games I buy are just indie games that aren’t really worth getting. Unless it’s an awesome game and then I go and still buy the physical copy of the indie game cuz it was awesome lol
    Just like my movies I still buy physical games. Specially the Mario games. Cuz omg when they get to short printing these Mario games they are gonna.be stupid expensive. Like that Mario All Star collection. Shoulda got it when it was $30 now it’s almost $200 like wtf shit is krazy. Hope one day I’ll be able to grab that game at at least $40 maybe $50 lol so I’m like 4 Mario games away from getting the main ones I want and when I do I’ll be happy and not have to worry to much when they do start short printing Mario games.

    Im not happy about it either, but theres nothing we can do about it. My PC is all digital and iknow i can buy external optical drives and i did just to pull some photos etc from dvds i made on a earlier pc. Least sony does a external dribve for there ps5 digital. I have the latest conaoles with the drives and a gaming pc, and i have only bought one physical game on a disc and thats a plagues tale reqium, and thats the only one in 3 years. , just in case it comes off gamepass. Its the world we live in now, we have to accpet it, cos no one person or a mass of persons is going to chamge it. Accept or get of at the next stop. People rip them selfd off. Mug punters who are paying these sellers silly money are turning them selfs over.

    "It's too late to save physical games" is more accurate. don't get me wrong, I absolutely insist on my games being physical too, which is why I'm getting off the console train at the PS4 station, but unlike movies and TV, no one is releasing new copies of oop console games.

      I'm good with Miyazaki movies and first party nintendo or retailers for switch games. Sony occasionally has something too, like the light brigade on psvr2.
      5:08 lol you still get patches on Normal physical stuff, like sea of stars without jirard the completionist 😂. Wish you could choose what version to play, especially fighting games as they nerf and change characters.

    You're obviously talking to console gamers here. I went back to PC gaming a couple of years back and haven't regretted it. I like having a digital library I can install and uninstall games as I wish. Oddly I feel the same about movie physical media that you do about gaming media. Ultimately I think it's all about the collecting bug and that's not a good thing in any physical media just in my opinion. By the way the only reason you see Nintendo as physical media champions is they are charging absolutely absurd prices for everything so yeah as long as you keep shelling out they'll keep producing the goods.

    • @HunterBoldingVideo

      I am talking about console gaming, the last physical PC game I bought was Borderlands 2 when it came out. But even with PC gaming, think about those big box games of yesteryear, they're awesome. Last I checked Nintendo is still charging mostly $60 for their games.

    • @radleystark6561
      @radleystark6561 3 месяца назад

      @@HunterBoldingVideo Nintendo are charging $60 for games that run on their junk hardware with graphics that were dated 15 years ago. The latest Zelda looks like a PS3 game (and that's being generous). But anyway, my point is your argument is only valid for collectors. Gamers who feel they need a physical copy of everything to put on a shelf are fast becoming a small minority. Most people these days just want to play the games. What really needs to happen is greedy platform owners like Sony, MS and Nintendo charging a lot less for digital versions of games but yeah good luck with that.
