If I could start my physical media collection over again from the beginning, I'd do these four things.

try doing that slipcover wait with those Kino 4K's many have missed out on them doing that The Good the Bad and the Ugly? and Vinegar Syndrome can also be included in that From Beyond for instance. Don't sleep on some of those second sight sets either. These boutique labels are doing really great work. I'm in the UK so I'd have to include Studio canal, Mubi, Curzon and BFI in my list.of favourites.

When I needed a break from buying retro games, I alted into my other nostalgia side: Pokemon. Giving something a break is healthy, don't burn yourself out then go do something you'll regret later!!!
OK so, you're right about going for stuff you really want. I didn't do this with games for the longest time... which is why I have the amount I do. But I'm happy to have what I have and I'm curating going forward in all areas.
Whether its a DVD/DVD box set or Pokemon cards or whatever, I'm only buying ones I really want to own.

Great video. I agree with collecting what you love. My entire collection is action movies because those are the only movies I actively rewatch. I remind myself that I’m collecting to WATCH these. Movies are meant to be watched and enjoyed. If it’s not something I already know I love, I don’t buy it.

I really don't like this trend in media to make things exclusive to streaming services or digital only. I'm so glad when they do get physical releases. I've always liked collecting physical. It's just satisfying to have it on a shelf and be able to look at it. One problem I've come across as a collector when buying older things is while sometimes it is cheaper when it's older, sometimes it's more expensive instead. Sometimes the value goes up instead of down. It's a bit of a gamble with waiting. I've had to pay a pretty penny for some of the CDs and video games I've bought because they are either very rare or very sought after.

I started collecting as a completist. I had to have everything. But, after trying to manage 3,000 plus titles, I'm now entering the curating stage. I'm selling/donating movies that I'm never going to watch again and only jumping on boutique editions of my cult favorites and rarities! I was buy every Marvel release, but with the recent quality I'm realizing I no longer need every Marvel movie.
It's hard to transition as I am now only looking for owning the best sampling of a particular actor or genre.

Algorithm found you and you have an informative channel. I don't mind having DVDs if the source is good, clean and sharp. If not, I'll upgrade to Blu Ray if it's available. 4Ks is an upgrade reserved for my absolute favorites. I still buy DVDs if they never had a Blu Ray/4K release or the price for an upgrade is ridiculous.

I’ve generally found that at least in my area, the Blu-ray isn’t outrageous, so I’ll get that over the DVD, but I’m not a snob about it, watching the movie is watching the movie! Thanks for the kind words!

I no longer buy stuff for the sake of it, I have to love it to add to my collection. I see too many collectors collecting for the wrong reasons like arrow or criterion, like matching spine artwork for titles they will either never watch or watch once.
Collecting for the sake of completion, collecting criterion because it’s cool, adding titles that you haven’t watched (I find that fucking weird…). I see so many background collections that have zero rationale.

Have a question about 4K Blu-ray that I purchased at Target that has a glitches in the disc. I recently purchased Apocalypse now final cut. I played the Blu-ray. It was great. I just got a 4K player and my final cut 4K disc chapter 7 freezes glitches won’t actually play but all the rest of the film chapters play and look fine. What does one do? who do you contact? to, get a new replacement copy of this 4K Blu-ray Disc of A.N final cut is it Lionsgate? On RUclips. There was another Apocalypse Now final cut 4K Owner that had a similar defect issue more or less in the same exact spot on the 4K disk were mine froze up and glitched out. I'm all for physical media, but if you buy it and it doesn’t work, what do you do?

    • @HunterBoldingVideo
      @HunterBoldingVideo  3 месяца назад

You can contact the home entertainment department of the studio or see if there's issues with the disc and they usually replace it.

I have one rule. I have no room for DVD's that could be Blu-Ray so even if its more expensive I buy the Blu-Ray. other than 4K is a gimmick! I have a semi curated semi buy everything available collection. about 2000 titles in total. I have been collecting since netflix and cuties.

I was like that but when I let people barrow my movies ether a they never return them or be they returned them a year after with me bugging the shit from them about giving me the movie back and then when I do it’s in really bad condition or c no one likes the movies i like so in reality I’m collecting for my own thrill I watch these movies alone no one else cares to watch them with me so the idea of saving the film for others to enjoy is a little silly this isn’t for anyone’s pleasure other than my own

lol I think you’re the one with a disorder. It’s cool if your not into collecting but wanting to physically own my media is not a disorder. I don’t have to pay for 10 different monthly subscriptions I can pull out any movie, TV Show, or Video Game I have and watch or play it on the spot. You realize when you buy digital content you don’t actually own it right? you’re just long term renting.

And for everything that says 'collector's edition' it'ts the exact opposite....it isn't worth shite and it will never be either. 🤣🤣🤣
