    As a lineman Klein is very well known. Their climbing tools and gear are some of the best. One of the most used and best is the 9 inch offset pliers. When I started in 1970 everyone had Kleins and as long as you didnt cut live wires lasted forever. I have known linemen who had the pliers for 30 years and still used them around the house.

    As an Electrician/Mechanic, I jumped on these pretty quickly. I have found them to be a great addition to the toolbelt. The flippable jaw was fiddly to begin with, but after using it it becomes second nature. The flat side jaw is great for EMT fittings, and the pipe jaw works well on rigid coupling/fitting as well. The head is tough enough to use to beat the lock nuts on the fittings with my large beater screwdriver too. Overall, I'm glad that I bought them, even though they're pretty expensive for a pair of pliers...

    As a line maintenance tech in the cable industry I have all but thrown away my adjustables and swapped over to pliers wrenches to go along with my fixed size wrenches for the hardline fittings. I have the Harbor freight Icon versions and they work just fine. They'll never replace a standard properly sized wrench, but good lord do they beat dealing with adjustables. Only thing I will say is they can be a bit more unwieldy when trying to get into tight spaces if the nut isn't in an ideal angle.

    I own Makita ones and they are AWESOME. I know in the west such as the USA or here in the UK Makita gets a ton of hate when it comes to hand tools but in their home country of Japan their tools are next level if you get them. Here in the UK we may use the term water pump pliers or pipe wrench since they are mainly used for plumbing and the sorts but the Makita ones are awesome and I only bought them because they were only like £2 more than the best Stanley ones and looked better they also have a built in pry bar on the opposite end of the handles for opening stuff like paint cans as it shows a photo of it on the packaging and they have a rubber grip thing built in to the handle to open delicate fixings using the textured rubber instead of the metal jaws here is the model I think (Makita B-65492) but I am not 100% sure since there are several sizes and I chose the largest which I got on discount for £22 which is a bargain for high quality pipe wrenches

Different tool that has the almost same functionality the way most people use them, if internet videos are anything to go by. @@johngaltline9933 (Good) pliers wrenches are non-marring and distribute force to fittings and whatnot evenly, rather than only contacting at the points that you get with channel locks and the slop offered by adjustable wrenches. Smooth jaw channel locks are an extra layer of insanity. There's only the 3 or 4 places (the positions of the channels) where they can effectively function as an adjustable wrench. Why anyone buys these things and their ilk is truly baffling. The pliers wrench also has effectively infinite granularity within its jaw size to match itself to wrench faces. Not even push button water pump pliers have that. Also, the pliers wrench enables you to employ non-marring ratcheting action to practically any fitting, fastener, etc. with even a modicum of access from the side. Even in cases where a ratcheting flare nut wrench couldn't be used. Lastly, the pliers wrench has amazing utility as a means of flattening and bending metal and the like. Tons of mechanical advantage and no uneven jaws to make indentations and punctures.

    Pliar wrenches are great when used as portable light-duty arbor presses. My knipex are so good for driving pins into holes. I've found them worthless for everything else. You have to keep a death grip on them when using them as a wrench and need three hands when using them as pliars because without using the adjuster button the opening distance only changes by about a quarter inch.

    you will be surprised that electricians will need adjustable spanners as well for gland conections ( i think thats what they are called, where a cable goes through into a metal box, the gland fitting holds the cable and it is similar to a brass plumbing fitting here in the UK). so for a electrical tool making company its no surprise they are making them. its possibly why they are putting the plyer changeable part in too, so you can carry one tool rather than 2.

    I think the biggest reason this Klein tool stands out over Knipex is the fact that the lever/knob to change the position is now easily accessible with your thumb while the hand is still in the grip position. This is not the case for Knipex, where you have to slide your whole hand over so that the thumb can not press on the button at the pivot point. Klein's leveler is positioned down the handle so that hand repositioning is not needed. I find that I loose grip of the tool and need a second hand in order to change position with Knipex.

    I love Klein Tools, and I appreciated the innovation, but I'm kind of on the fence about these. My co-worker has a pair, and they almost never get used. The adjustment button is a nice improvement over Knipex, but I feel like the handles are less comfortable, and the grip with the serrated jaw is less than a pair of Cobras on smooth pipe. Still, you're essentially getting twice the tools for half the price, and you'll save a little bit of weight in the tool bag. At the end of the day though, I'd rather just carry a pair of each of the Knipex pliers.

    • @rayzerot
      @rayzerot 2 месяца назад

      I'm confused- knipex has sets with buttons for adjustment. He even has some knipex pliers in the video that have the push button

      @@rayzerotfor sure. I just like the position/ergonomics of how Klein does the button vs knipex. They’re both great, but I’d give slight preference to the Klein.

    It’s super easy to flip the jaws. Unless you let go of the button while doing it. 😂. I found these to be worthless as a wrench. They work pretty good as a pipe wrench though.

    As they come out of the package they remind me of a Viking bearded axe. You got your Viking bearded pliers right there.
    What’s the weak point of such pliers? To my eye it looks like the rack part of the ratchet will be first to fail, but the teeth have to be pretty closely spaced and therefore small to get the adjustability in adequately small increments. I could be wrong, I haven’t looked real,closely at such pliers.

    • @FunkFPV

    I like Klein Tools but some are not as good as others. I needed new strippers to start rewiring my house i picked up an expensive pair and they were badly misaligned 😢 went back to the Ace i got them at and all of them were the same unfortunately.
